Can someone add a section for the actual "Hero of the Journey" achievment?

Complete the Progression Tasks
Complete the Advancement Tasks
Complete the Special Tasks
Complete the Conquest Tasks

Then list the actual reward as part of the quest?

Paragon's Set... no charm?

I just finished completing the entire achievement line for all the armor. It was a lot of fun. I am trying to figure out if I'm missing something though. All slots got an upgrade except the charm. Is that right? I couldn't find anything that showed a charm... Anyone know of a charm?

Charms are tricky as they like to hide and you need to do some searching to find them.

Starting in Cresent Reach there are "Serpent Seeker's Charm of Lore' and "Wanderlust Guild Loadstone"

Since you just finished Paragon (gratz btw!!) you can do a search for level 75 ish charms. There is Wendia's Charm for that level.

Here is a magleo link with all the charms in the game so you can scroll around and find the ones for your levels. Not all are easy to get.

On FV you can save yourself a lot of time and skip certain achievments by buying the end result in bazaar or borrowing from a friend.

As a general rule of thumb, when you look at an achievement, any steps that are slightly indented are "optional" steps and do not need to be completed.

For an example, look at the Valthun's Memory Shard achievement in the conquest tab, the step "Obtain Valthun's memory shard" is not indented which means it's a mandatory step; however, the 5 lines below "Obtain Valthun's memory shard" are all indented , so these are optional steps. By getting the Valthun's memory shard augment from someone who already has one, you will satisfy the only mandatory step in this achievement and be granted the achievmeent without doing any tasks.

Now compare this with the "cursed Obsidian Faycite" achievmeent in the conquest tab. None of the steps in this achievement are indented, so you need to complete all the tasks even if you buy a Cursed Obsidian Faycite aug (which is tradable) in the bazaar.

With that in mind, here are some tradable items you can buy on FV that will grant achievements right away and allow you to skip these portions of the hero's journey:

-Wayfarers Brotherhood Emblem (HUGE time saver if you get this from someone. Skips doing any LDON missions)
-tome of new beginnings
-assistant researcher's symbol
-tsaph katta's urn of rejuvenation
-valthun's memory shard
-lantern o'wisps
-shield of the otherworld

you can also buy jonas digmire's skeletal hand and get that achievment; however, the tasks for this aug are also needed for other achievements, so you don't really save any time in the end. Meanwhile something like shield of the otherworld is used in 2 achievements but you don't need to do any of the actual tasks since having the aug will give credit for both.

Buying the end result will give no stats without completing some of the achievements. Learned the hard way. Rip plat..
NOT BAD

they are slow at the start and you get good upgrades and if you plan it right you can do 4-6 quests at the same time, you just need to take a wide look at the achiements. You prob would grind there anyway. Then you have things like the sepents charm of lore that finishes in ashengate and on your way up you will need raids to get pieces, put the waundulest loadstone in it and you will just game stats as you pick up pieces and do the corresponding quests.

I have just returned to the game, and have been doing these quests. To say the rewards are good is a bit optimistic. I have found that most quests result in rewards that are more relevant for chars at much lower levels than the one doing the quest.

You are correct. But if you do it for the adventure and not simply for the reward, it is hella fun. I have made 2 characters and have been going through them and i would have to say it is the most fun i have had in this game in awhile.
Don't forget to do OTHER quests!

There are quite a few other quests in each area that this "Hero's Journey" book leads you. Many of which offer rewards that are extremly nice, and help to fill out those gear slots that the main quest + drops do not.

In each area, once I have done a few of the quests from the Hero's Journey book, I open my Find window (ctrl+F) and scroll down and look for any NPCs with the titles of <Quests # - #>. This helps track down those NPCs that may not be right in the mainstream path.

I found this out around level 40ish and actually went back to do many of the quests i missed. Needless to say I was dissapointed in all the gear that would have been a SIGNIFICANT upgrade at the time. Even doing some of the level 20ish quests granted me upgrades in my 40s!

Everquest is finally a QUESTing game!
A Worn Totem
# Jun 29 2012 at 10:15 AM Rating: Decent
Doing the Achievements task in the tutorials gives you A Worm Totem .. 1 sec clickie giving you the effect Blessing of Swiftness. No need for sow pots down here, great for new alts.

I still prefer the SoW potions.

The clicky totem you get in the tutorial area has a limited duration and a longer cooldown. I do not remember the actual numbers, but I believe it was something like a 3 min duration, and a 5 min recast timer.

Some of them have gear rewards and then some of us just like wasting time and getting them done. Before these came about in-game, I was getting bored. With these in place, at least it gives me something to do. =)

Plus, it gives my alts something to accomplish along the way. =)

I noticed that I if I've done a major quest, like the hand aug from TBS, but I've since destroyed the aug for bank space (since there are million better augs now), it says I haven't done the quest. This happened with both the HoS augs also. Hope they fix it.

Aye, Sense of accomplishment = look in your inventory.
I did an anniversary hunt that gave 2 potions of adventure (30min 2x xp)
and have, naturally, used them. So I must not have done the task if I don't have the reward, right? Smiley: bah

Went into my House, moved the staff of endless adventure into my inventory,
presto! 5th anniversary achievement instantly completed!

Note to others about finding your stuff:
Make a hotkey (I call mine DUMP) so you can look for where things are.
Inventory tells you what bags and slots hold something,
Houses only tell you that it is there, it's your messy house, you find it.
  • /output inventory
  • /output spellbook
  • /output realestate
  • /output guild
  • /output guildbank (this only works inside GH or GGH)

(Look up how to save to specific file locations.)

/outputfile type filespec substitute the types listed above, and give it any filespec and name. I use simply the toonname_server.txt to put it in the base everquest directory, but you can specify any place.

I have a folder named inventory under the EQ folder. All toons have a hotkey that issues /outputfile inventory inventory\toonname.txt.

This is very necessary for me since I am a dedicated tradeskiller and never delete tradeskill materials. I have several toons on several accounts used for storage only.
