Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

NOTE: This is the group version of this event. For the raid version, see this quest entry.

This group mission begins with General Terasal in Windsong Sanctuary, located at -225, 1670 (northeast of the zone-in).

Pre-requisites for requesting the task:
- Completion of "Stranger in a Strange Land"
- Completion of "Getting Down to Business"
- Completion of "Making Music"
- Completion of "The Sound of Silence"
- 81 Skill Level in Alaran

You say, 'Hail, General Terasal'

Without pre-requisites:

General Terasal says, in Alaran, 'Hello. Be careful here, friend. This is not a place of peace and song. This is a place of power, where sound can destroy as easily as it can soothe.'

With pre-requisites:

You say, 'Hail, General Terasal'

General Terasal says, in Alaran, 'I have heard of you. I have been preparing for your arrival, in fact. I am a general in rank, though none of us have much experience at war. I imagine that you have already been told about our history, so I will not bore you with that. I, for example, am a musician by trade. A good one, if you ask me. This, along with my military training, makes me uniquely [qualified] to help you here.'

You say, 'Qualified?'

General Terasal says, in Alaran, 'Ryken's power is in sound. Mostly in the power of the spoken word, but since our arrival here his followers have taken to song and music. I have been studying them since our war with them started, and I have some idea how they think and how their power works. With Ryken assisting them, the force of Erillion are more dangerous than they should be. With your help I think I have a way to [draw Ryken out] we can weaken alis power and perhaps lift the siege on Argath.'

You say, 'How do we draw Ryken out?'

General Terasal says, in Alaran, 'I have developed an aria of sorts that should have a dramatic effect on all the residents here, probably causing most of them to flee or even dissipate. The disturbance will certainly bring Ryken's attention here and away from Argath for a while. It might also give you a chance to defeat the avatar al has left here in alis realm. That will certainly weaken al and aid us. I am willing to risk the wrath of a god if you are ready to fight ali. Do you have many [willing] to fight, or are your numbers small, but [powerful]?'

You say, 'We're small, but powerful!'

General Terasal says, in Alaran, 'It is true that few can fight with the fervor of many, but we cannot begin battle until the aria is playing. While I consider myself an accomplished composer, it will take more than myself to bring this song to life. Many of the Windsong worshippers carry magical instruments that we will need to play the aria. Once your group has [assembled], you can begin recovering those essential musical pieces.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Cacophony of Power'.

General Terasal has composed an aria that will lure Ryken back to Windsong when played, allowing you to attack the Alaran god!

In order to perform the aria, various enchanted instruments need to be recovered from the worshippers and devotees within Windsong.

You say, 'We have assembled!'

General Terasal says, in Alaran, 'I wish you luck.'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Windsong Sanctuary.

Recover an Enchanted Mandolin 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Recover an Enchanted Lute 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Recover an Enchanted Drum 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Recover an Enchanted Flute 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Recover an Enchanted Horn 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Kill Alaran mobs in the outer area of the instanced zone until you've collected all five items.

Head into the central amphitheatre 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Head to the very center of the zone.

Place the instruments around the tomb 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Task Window Says: Place the instruments around the tomb, near the organ pipes.

Instruct the enchanted instruments to begin playing 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Task Window Says: Let the instruments know when you are ready for them to "begin" playing.

When ready for a fight, target the instruments and tell them to "begin playing". NOTE: The task locks at this point.

As the aria plays, an Echo of Ryken manifests itself within the amphitheatre.

Defeat the Echo of Ryken while the aria plays! 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Task Window Says: Defeat the Echo of Ryken while the music is playing. If the music has stopped, you may instruct the instruments to "being" again.

The Echo of Ryken hits for a max ~20,000. Early in the fight, he casts these two spells:

Commanding Voice: Single Target, Unresistable (0)
1: Charm up to level 110

Wretched Rhetoric: Single Target, Magic (-900)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 26000
2: Adjust Mana (-7000)
3: Decrease Hitpoints by 13000 per tick
4: Decrease Mana by 3500 per tick
5: Increase Curse Counter by 20

At around 50%, the named goes inactive and spawns six adds:

As the second aria begins, a wall of sentry stones forms a protective barrier around the Echo of Ryken.

NOTE: If you come into contact with the sentry stones surrounding the Echo of Ryken, you'll be death touched.

The Echo of Ryken calls forth als winged allies!

At this point, you get six adds called "a filqua toneglider" (mezzable; stunnable) which immediately aggro. Each of these procs a two-second stun called "Overwhelming Screech":

Overwhelming Screech: PB AE 25', Unresistable (0)
1: Stun (2.00 sec)

Once the bats are dead, the named goes live again:

As the third verse begins, the protective barrier of sentry stones explodes, leaving the Echo of Ryken vulnerable once again!

In this stage of the encounter, the named casts a few different AEs:

Bouncing Bombast: PB AE 40', Magic (-900)
1: Knockback (4) and Toss Up (4)
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 31000

Echoing Eulogy: Single Target, Magic (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 18500 per tick
2: Decrease Attack Speed by 70%

Monologue of Melancholy: PB AE 50', Magic (-900)
1: Decrease Movement by 50%
2: Decrease Attack Speed by 40%

Soon after he goes active, 2x "Blind Dreamer" mobs spawn and power up the Echo as long as they remain alive:

The Echo of Ryken draws power from the Blind Dreamers.

One of these is killable only by nukes; one of these is killable only by melee. They're each permanently rooted and hit for a max ~15,500.

Collect your reward from the enchanted chest 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

General Terasal spawns nearby; as does an enchanted chest.

You say, 'Hail, General Terasal'

General Terasal says, in Alaran, 'The aria was played so beautifully, even a god couldn't resist its lure. Your heroics have no doubt saved countless lives, and for that I am forever grateful. Take your reward, and then take your [leave] when ready.'

An aria played by enchanted instruments lured the Echo of Ryken back to Windsong, allowing you to defeat the body that it inhabited, while restoring some peace to the realm.

Am I missing something here? This is an instance right? I get the mission but there is no port to an instance of the zone. I have wandered about killing the mobs but no enchanted instruments drop so I have to figure I am doing something wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ack! I might be an idiot. I just saw that you need to say assembled. I tried go, begin, start, enter, etcetera. Now I will try assmbled.

Thank you guys was able to complete this with your help and some trial and error. I just have a couple of things to add:

At the start of the fight he charmed everyone but my tank and mercs ( I box paladin, necro, druid) I was afraid of agro control due to charm and it never happened.

The blind dreamer needs to be killed with caster DPS not nukes only, I gave him a healthy appetite of necro dots and he goes down everytime.

The main boss is active the entire fight with the blind dreamers and needs to be accounted for; he will regen a bit while you take out the dreamers.

The fight is not over after you kill the dreamers, you have to save enough to kill the 25ish% remaining life on the main boss.

( northanger covered a bit of this so re-emphasiss and again thank you all)

Done with beast/mage duo and two healer mercs.

- If you are pet tanking, the charm resets your pet's aggro when it fades, so don't forget to order it to attack again or things go to hell in a hurry.
- When the named gets to 50% and spawns the barrier of sentry stones your pets will continue to attack it unless you hold them beforehand. If they are still on it your pets will be deathtouched.
- I put my toons in the middle right next to the coffin and was able to avoid aggro from the bats when they spawned. Thx scrabcakes for the advice.
- The event resets if you wipe and have to run back, you can tell the instruments to begin again when you get back.
- The run all the way back through Resp Temple and up to Windsong after a wipe truly sucks, especially doing it twice. If you have access to a campfire, plant it.
Handling bats
# Apr 12 2012 at 9:21 PM Rating: Decent
Figured out a way to handle the bats without a mezzer. In first phase pull the named up to the middle-top and pin him near the side of the organ. You cant get too close to the middle or the stones will kill you when the named depops at 50. You cant get too close to the edge or the bats will aggro. If you get your team into the right place the bats will just circle without aggroing. Then you can pull them 2 at a time and rest between fights. Just keep them in the same spot or you get adds or stone deathtouch.

I wasnt able to rest after the bats, as the named despawned. We just charged down after the last bat and pulled named over to where the black statue (melee only) spawns.

Placing the musical instruments

You place the instruments by standing where you want the instrument to drop and then right clicking on the instrument while its in your inventory.

This fight has 3 distinct phases. Save all tank / dps discs for phase 3.

Phase 1 - /say begin playing to an instrument

Fight Echo of Ryken until 50%. Casts a single target 6 sec charm.

Phase 2 - Ryken at 50%

Ryken goes inactive. Several bats spawn. They have a single target "screech" that does a 3 sec stun. Damage output very low. Be ready to ae taunt / ae mez / etc. If your mezzer or taunter gets stunned you can be in trouble. You can mez the last bat and rebuff / rez / regen as needed.

Phase 3 - After last bat dies

Ryken becomes active again and does some AE damage. Move him away from spawn point. After a short time (not tied to hp) 2 dreamers spawn. Dreamers buff Ryken damage. Pop tank discs now. Both dreamers rooted. Left dreamer is spell damage only and does not summon. Right dreamer is melee/pet damage only and DOES summon. Ryken stays active and must be tanked. Dreamers have low HP and are easy to defeat. Either have tank both Ryken and the melee dreamer, or any melee toon should be able to tank melee dreamer. After dreamers are down finish Rkyen off.
Task

Tried this today with 95sk, 94 sham, ench, 94 cleric and 95 cleric and all went well till around 19% mob went invulnerable and tried to kill the blind dreamers but they cast repel...Wiped since we had no real caster dps.. All player made VOA gear.
Task
# Dec 14 2011 at 7:08 AM Rating: Good
Fairly straightforward task. Kill mobs around the perimeter of the zone (very sparsely populated) for the drops. Head into center and set up. Named mob does not hit hard by comparison to T4 named. First adds are mezzable, don't leave room or the event will re-set. Once Named drops to 25% you need to kill the 2 dreamers while continuing to tank named. This is best achieved by having spellcasters take them out due to the push back effect on melee. It is not possible to just burn through the last 25% I tried (you do get an achievement though for letting him power up 3 times).
