The Escaped Catman

This is the quest for the Hero Bracers. You must do the first part at least once. It is possible that once you have done the first part, you can just get the shackles each time you do the quest. You also need to do the Steel Warrior initiation quest before doing this. You probably need a high faction with the steel warriors to complete the quest. Here are the details:
[1] Go to the basement of the arena in South Qeynos and talk to Grahan Rothgar. He will ask you if '...you have a report of the [escaped catman].' Ask him What escaped catman. He will give you the story and ask if you want to '...[retrieve key seven].' You can continue the quest anyway, but you will get nothing for it; no faction, no xp, no item, no nothing. [2] Grahan will tell you to go to Wisp Isle (in Erud's Crossing) and kill the catman named Nomala. Yes, there is a catman named 'Monola' but that is the wrong catman. The correct catman is named 'Nomala'. He is not as high level as any of the other cats but tends to gather a mob. Best strategy to kill him is in Step 3. [3] Go to Wisp Isle (the only one in Erud's Crossing). Nomala will spawn by the fire. Once killed, he will not spawn again for another hour or two, so figure on taking a while to do this. Be warned that you lose faction with Prexus for killing these catmen. Anyway, he will stand there for a bit, then walk off toward the shore down by the dock. Milla is standing around close by, but if you wait about one minute, she will walk off and leave Nomala all alone. Kill him - but don't let him run, kill him quick. Best bet is to hit him once then run a few feet down shore away from their village. He does not always have the key. [4] Return the key to Grahan and you get xp, faction, an item (along the lines of a bronze short sword), and a second quest. (faction results: +Steel Warriors, +Guards of Qeynos, -Corrupt Qeynos Guards, -Freeport Militia, +Knights of Truth). [5] The 2nd Quest: He wants you to go hunt down '...a [second escaped gladiator]' Fine, sounds easy... nope. He wants you to return the shackles of the Minotaur Hero of the Steamfont Mountains. [6] Go get em and bring em back. The hero's placeholder is the minotaur slaver in the front of the minotaur cave. When he dies, there is a chance that the Hero will spawn on the other side of the valley. Minotaur Hero + Shackles = Hero Bracers. Need all dialogues, current faction hits, /loc of quest mobs, actual quest prerequisites, rewards. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I just handed in 160 Milks to Mojox Hikspin in West Commons by the lake - He was indefferent to start, and indifferent to stop - All he had to say to me was "Work on the ways of valor before we discuss such things. You are on the righteous path of the Truthbringer, but there is more work to do." I was apprehensive to the Warrior trainers in Halas before this (they wouldn't even give me the newbie warrior quests), and won't know my faction to them until after tonight as I am now heading for freaking gnoll fangs by the 100's... I am going to finish this freaking quest if it kills me. BTW, the merchant who sells milk is in East Commons, his name is Parthar, and his /loc is -118 by 235 - Milk cost 5cp at 100 cha... Wish me luck...

Well, 4 hours and 99 gnoll fangs later.... I went from apprehensive to Lysbith McNaff to Amiable... and made 100gp and various junk in the process... All of Halas likes me, yet I did not raise my faction from Indifferent in Qeynos... Grahan still wont give me the Key quest... nor can I do the newbie quest for snake scales and bat wings... So, it looks like it's back to Halas to do more newbie quests there...
BTW...Gnoll fangs in Halas raise the following factions:

Shamen of Justice
Merchants of Halas
Steel Warriors
No negative faction hits...

worked for me. I had to get to amiable with the NFP paladins first. you can do this with orc in the commons or for us impatient types kill FP guards. I am way kos to the freeport malitia but I can do the quest. Now to figure out how to fix my faction....

Im also a 39 ranger and despite the fact that i almost died killing the Hero,and spend all that time trying to get a teleport,running tuning gnollfangs to the lady in Halas,im still indiffrent to Grahan Rothgar,i gave him key #7 but he still said that he didnt trust me or something like that. Im going to the Commons to do the milk quest and to Freeport to do the deathfist belt quest,i hope that after all that i can get the bracer and that the rumors that US rangers cant do the quest are just that rumors

you might have good enough faction for the catman part of the quest, but may not have enough faction for the minotaur part, I lost the hero shacles that way. always hail Graham and go thru the kywords and watch for the "I have nothing against you but we have no use for you" message

This is how my 12th Lvl Wood Elf Druid of Tunare performed the quest:
Started off with Gnoll fangs turned into Qeynos - no Steel Warrior faction. Later learned they needed to go to Halas Warrior Arena. Blah!

I would like to thank the Druid who posted this information, as I had given up ever getting a Hero Bracer of my own. After 140 gnoll fangs in Halas, the faction adjustment for the Steel Warriors was not very impressive. After only 9 repeats of this quest, I was amiable enough to do the Catman Quest. After only 6 more, I was good enough to do the Hero Bracer quest outright.
For those like me who have no gating or binding capability, there are two options to beat the 45 minute plus round trip.
Option one is to get a group (preferably of six) to join you for a trip. They can each get a note from the Clothspinner sister in Qeynos, and travel with you to East Karana, where you can turn the notes in one by one as they hand them to you.
Option two is to have a druid or wizard perform a 'bucket brigade' with the notes, by binding in Qeynos next to the Clothspinner, and use thier gate spells to travel to North Karana, or even East Karana for Druids. You can spend the time travelling down to make the final leg of the journey, and meet them back at the gate every time they pick up a new note (which is Lore, but NOT No Drop). This would cut your time immensely, and could be finished within an hour.
The 'Cave' which the Clothspinner sister hides in is at the very end of the deep canyon which parallels the road to High Pass.
A special note regarding the Guard that attacks the sister in East Karana. If you want to protect the sister (because I don't know what her respawn time is if she dies), you should allow the guard to first attack the sister, and then attack him. Beat him until he tries to run, and let the Clothspinner sister kill him. If you do this, you will not get punished by the 4 bad faction hits, since the only good hit is not even for the Steel Warriors.
If anyone is keeping track, I am a Wood Elf Ranger, and I DID successfully complete the Hero Bracer quest by myself.
Good luck to everyone else who tries this, and PLEASE don't kill the Minotaur Hero if you cannot wear the bracers, or already have a pair. There are a LOT of us out there who just want a fair chance to get our first pair.

Mojax is either bugged on my server or more than likely they changed the milk thing...he only gives Knights of Truth faction upon turning in milk.
Perhaps there is another faction that is standing in the way, could be possible.

Ok, i turned in 279, thats right 279 gnoll fangs to the chick in halas. got the message saying i was gaining faction with steel warriors every time. so i go back to qeynos thinking great all that faction is really going to help. Nope, still indif. So i do the milk thing. 600 milks, thats right 600 milks, got the message saying i was gaining faction with steel warriors every time. Great i think to myself, this will really help. Nope, went back to qeynos and still indiff to steel warriors. now i have sacrificed the time for the mino, the time for the fangs, and all this travel time not to mention i am now kos in freeport from turning in milks. imo this quest is not doable if you are a half elf ranger. please fix the part in the description where it says rangers can do this quest. they can't.

I'm a half-elf Tunarian Ranger..
turned in about 350 milks to get faction up.
Was able to get all branches of the quest from Grahan without a problem. Either must have been fixed, of you've all done something to tick the Steel Warriors off badly enough that you can't get your faction back without investing HUGE amounts of time and money.

you need to complete the newbie warrior quest from the guy in the back corner of the room upstairs from the arena. The snake skin, bat wing newbie quest. That will bring up your Qeynos Steel Warriors faction. Maybe even try doing the Nomala quest once or twice. It IS doable by any class/race as long as you get the faction part right.

This would be a great idea, but handing Nomala's key over results in 'you have not proven yourself to our guild', and the Steel Warrior Initiation requires a backpack to begin the quest. Asking for the backpack results in 'you have not proven yourself to our guild'. None of the Steel Warrior direct quests are apparently permitted to demi-human Rangers, or possibly Rangers in general.
This is following a week long Steel-Warrior faction binge. All other factions I have dealt with are now warmly.
If ANYONE has information to the contrary, PLEASE post here. I am stuck with a useless, no-drop shackle, and a useless no-drop key #7.

I have to agree so far. I am a Wood Elf Ranger, and I have turned in over 150 fangs for the same quest, which now has me viewed warmly across Halas. The only difference that I have seen back in Qeynos is that Grahan no longer wants to put my head on a stick, like he did initially.
I am curious if the originator of this post was ever able to perform the Steel Warrior Initiation, or the Escaped Catman quest to somehow activate an open dialogue with Grahan?
I am not going to waste my time with the milk quest, and would recommend that fellow non-human Rangers be wary of sacrificing their relations in Freeport for a quest that is likely to be filled with frustration.
If Rangers cannot complete the quest, I am very dissappointed that someone chose to make the Hero Bracers Green in color and then denied them to Rangers. That seems like a cruel trick to pull.

I TOTALLY agree with this guy about "rangers beware." I turned in milk (got no faction at all), i turned in 162 gnoll fangs...and yet the guys still wont do business with me...WHAT THE HELL?????

Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

I took the "a minotaur slaver" spawn just inside the cave, (NOT "minotaur slaver") and I pulled him out quite far by the trees and THEN killed him, did this three times in a row, and the hero spawned INSTANTLY two of the times, on the hill on the opposite side of the cave.

I've tried this too. Could you be more specific? Do I have to pull 3 of the 'a minotaur slaver' tto get 1 Hero to pop? How far out do I pull them. I've been trying this, cleariing the joint, and other suggested methods and still haven't seen him.

Meez bin havin de same problem. Jus spent four hourz bashin evry Minotur Slaver in de house, smashin Clockwerks, Drakes, Kobold Mishunries, Skellies, youz name it! De field outside de Mino cave lukked like a wrekkin yard, but still no Hero. Got two Lords ter pop, but meez not innerested in dem. Ennybody wiv enny more ideas on how to wake up de Hero?

i sat in steamfont at the mino caves for 6 hours and killed the "a" minotaur slaver directly inside the entrance approximately 65 times and had another char waiting directly across from the caves at the mountain near the 2 trees there, he never popped or showed up on tracking, my guildmates that have done it said they never had to wait that long, have they changed the quest at all? made the spawn longer? anyone done it recently that can verify a quick pop or even a pop at all?

You don't need to do either the fisrt part on Kerra Isle or the Initiation. You only need amiable faction with the Steel Warriors. Go and ask about a second escaped gladiator to initiate the quest and give him the shackle.

Don't any of you have in game friends by now? You need 2 friends to do this quest in little time. First you need a wizard or druid who can port and if you can kill the hero then any one close to your level can port. Second you need a bard or an enchanter for the quest, anyone above level 15 should work great but you HAVE to trust them or be nice and do the quest twice for both of you, now let me explain.
First off, the notes on this quest are wrong; You DO NOT have to do the first part, you DO NOT have to spend a copper on milk, you DO NOT have to run to Halas for faction or anything, you DO NOT have to kill any catmen.
What you do is take your wizard and your bard (or druid and enchanter) to Steamfont and go kill the hero but make sure you have the BARD OR ENCHANTER loot the shackles. Next you have your wizard or druid friend port you to Tox or the Karanas and travel on to Qeynos. Go to the warrior guild and have the bard or enchanter cast either benovelence alliance or charasmatic carillion on Grahan. Next, before turning in the shackles, have them ask him, 'What second escaped gladiator' and watch as he gives them the quest. If he doesn't give them the quest then you probably have an enchanter with alliance so have them try illusion human and ask again. Now that he gives them the quest have the bard or enchanter turn in the shackles and voila they now hold a hero bracer and all you have to do is convince them that they should now hand it to you. I did this quest with my bard and I have NEVER done a thing to raise faction with the warriors in Qeynos nor did I kill thecatman and do that piddly quest.

He claims he is a DE bard, there is no such thing. If he was a HE bard or human Bard with the easy to get mask, than why would he say he was DE and not he original race? HMMM! He is right about the first part of the quest though(catmen) as far as the second part with the "alliance" thing. Not sure on that i have AWESOME human factions.

I have turned in over 57 gnoll teeth to the warrior in halas i get steel warrior increase i am amiable to her and the other warrior's in Halas. I con WARMLY yes i said warmly to Mojax NOW the problem I still am dubious to the Warrior's in S. Qeynos. Now i am really lost, Anyone else have any of these problems. I am a wood elf druid i am warmly to Paladins of North freeport, KOS to the militia, and indifferent to the people of qeynos. Any other ideas i would love to hear them tonight i am going on a bandit killng spree in the EK, NK, & WK. I don't konw if the bandit will help my steel warrior faction but maybe if i get my qeynos faction up higher them i can get my qeynos steel warrior faction up as well....

I finally got my Steel warrior faction up but truning in lot's and lot's of gnoll teeth. I am now warmly to Halas Warrior's the lady in halas that you turn in the teeth too. Well get this I was so happy and so excited that i ran to qeynos south side and run up to the guy there and made my statement about second escaped gladiator and he stated that my head would look nice on the wall or something to that effect. I back up and con'ed him and guess what i am still appresensive to him. I am KOS in freeport but after playing with camo and running around i get to the warrior guild there and again con them and i am Kindly to them. NOW what do i do for my faciton to qeynos warrior part of the steel warriors. HOW can i be warmly to one steel warrior and only apprehansive to another. Please help... I have started going on a killing riot of bandit's in EK, WK, & NK. My qeynos faction is finally moving up from threathing. I hope they tie together.

Its me again. I forgot to add---> I am Amiable to Grahan, as I stated, but I still do not get the quest. He tells me something like "I have no dislike for you but you still need to prove yourself to me" or some such statement. I'm AMIABLE!! C'mon!

I KNOW you've read all the posts on milk but look....I am a Human Paladin from Freeport. I have done the Soulfire quest so most of Qeynos loves me. I am Amiable to Grahan. But when I give milk to Mojax the ONLY (read that as ONLY) faction I get is +Knights of Truth. Could it be connected with Class since Mojax is part of a Paladin quest? Maybe Paladins only get faction with Knights of Truth? (although a Wood-Elf Druid friend is getting the same thing but Mojax is indifferent) Any ideas? Do I need to be above Amiable to get faction from him?

This was due to a bug in faction processing (which was just fixed) which caused you to stop gaining all factions when one of them maxed, in this case you were stuck because Knights was maxed.

Mojax is either nerfed or bugged on Cazic-Thule now. Wont give you anything like he used to.

I gave Mojax some milk today and the only faction I got is with Knights of Truth. Another poster had the same experience. Has anyone gotten SteelWarrior faction from Mojax recently? I have a feeling Mojax no longer gives that faction.

Okay with all the misinformation I thought I'd set the record straight once and for all. Firstly, you DO NOT have to do the first part of this quest, it can be bypassed with good faction and the correct question, which is "what second escaped gladiator" Milk is by far the easiest was to get the faction, took me 1 hour to get kindly, and cost next to nothing. Buy 300 milk (One of the Buildings at inn 1 in EC has it) and go to the inn near the lake in WC. The is a human there next to the fisherman (sometimes he wanders off) named Mojax Hikspin (spelling probably wrong, but that is close) Hail him and give him milk 4 at a time and watch the faction build! Does affect your FP Militia standing though, so if you care about it run over to the toll booth and check your standing with the guards there. Go kill the Mino hero in Steamfont, took me a while to get him to spawn, he spawned for me after I cleared Meldrath and killed the first mino inside the mine, he spawns either by the tree accross from the mine or behind the fallen gears. Take the shakles to the Arena in South Queynos, find Grahan Rothgar under the arena and ask "what second escaped gladiator" If he doesnt respond, faction (Steel Warriors) isnt high enough. If he does, give him the hero shakles and enjoy your shiny new bracer.

Hello all, I am amiable with Grahan, started out that way despite being a 41st half-elf rogue. He gave me the key quest which I finished and i've also done all the quests the guy at the table in the arena gives. Grahan even said I could be of use to him with a second quest and mentions the second escaped gladiator also stating that he would reward a HUMAN WARRIOR. But when I mention the gladiator, he said they're not opposed to me but I haven't proved myself in the arena. Turning in milk gets me no faction whatsoever at this point either. I need to know where to go next. Should I bother trying the gnoll fangs or the deathfist belts since i'm already amiable with Grahan? Or is it not Grahan I need to be amiable with but rather someone else? Please help if you can. Thanks.

Well, after hours and hours camping the Mino Hero, I finally looted the shackle. Then I got to W Commons and give this guy a ton of milk. Then I go to Qeynos, and hail the man. HE gives me the quest. I con him, and am amiable, so I give him my shackle, and he say the same line about not proving yourself!!

If you collect up a bunch of Gnoll teeth hand them in at the pit in Halos They give you good faction with the steel warrior.

I raised my faction with the Steel Warriors from Indifferent to Amiable in very little time by using the Milk method above. For those who dont see Steel Warrior faction increase, it's prolly cuz you cant get it any higher. (Evil races) Especially if you have killed these guys before. Another tip when giving the milk. In between the times when you give Mojax the 4 single milks, hail him so he wont run off. That way, you won't have to wait the 10 minutes for him to repop. Just keep force feeding it to him 4 at a time. I gave him about 275 in 15 minutes or so. Dont sit when doing the quest either or Scumbar will aggro you no matter your level. He's an easy kill but, it will take your focus off Mojax and the milk feeding. Good Luck!

Do the Langseax quest for faction with Steel Warriors. You can make decent money from the Langseax of the Wolves (if u can get it) as well and get good faction with steel warriors.
