Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

NOTE: This is the quest entry for the group version of "Time and Tides". See this quest entry for the raid version.

This is a group mission that begins with General Serobi in Sarith. He's found in the northeastern part of the dock area at about 20, -1050.

Pre-requisites for requesting the task:
- Completed "Oseka's Knowledge"
- Completed "Sacred Relics"
- Completed "Tides of Change"
- Completed "The Key to Freedom"
- Completed "Begin the Offensive"
- Completed "Assault the Tower"
- 73 Skill Level in Alaran

You say, 'Hail, General Serobi'

Without pre-requisites, you'll see:

General Serobi says 'You are not yet ready for the task I have planned. Speak with Solphius Kelprunner, Tiljin of the Deep, or Aquarn the Tidalmaster if you wish to help.'

With pre-requisites, you'll see:

You say, 'Hail, General Serobi'

General Serobi bows respectfully in greeting, 'You look well rested, _____. This is good. You will need your strength for what lies ahead. While your efforts thus far have been commendable, it is clear now that it will take a much greater force to stop Oseka. Large or small, all help is needed. Tell me, do you have a [group] or a [raiding party] on hand, or perhaps you're willing to make another [move] against the Temple of Rubak Oseka?'

You say, 'I have a group'

General Serobi nods with understanding, 'Ah, a group. This will help immensely. To be able to possess the bodies of alir High Priests is a power unlike any I have ever witnessed. If the source of alir [strength] lies in Rubak, we shall find it, and use it against alir.'

You say, 'Strength?'

General Serobi says 'Just as Prexus derives power from the oceans of Norrath, Oseka must be sustained from something within Rubak. Finding this source of power, however, won't be an easy task. Oseka and alir High Priests are likely expecting an attack...' The General reaches within his robe and withdraws a water-filled crystal flask. 'Within this [vial], the tremulous waters of Prexus are contained. The vial may be small, but the strength within is boundless. One drop alone can embody the power of the sea.''

You say, 'What vial?'

General Serobi says 'A gift bestowed upon me by Prexus himself. While he cannot [travel] to the domain of Oseka, his power could, if contained. The Fury of the Tides, when unleashed near the heart of Rubak, may cause enough of a disruption for you to find the source of Oseka's power and use it against alir.'

You say, 'We'll travel there'

General Serobi hands you the crystal flask with great care. 'You hold the power of Prexus in your hands. When you are ready to [begin], I will lead you to the heart of Rubak.'

You have been assigned the task 'Time and Tides'.

Everyone receives a "Fury of the Tides".

Travel to Rubak Oseka, Temple of the Sea, and find Oseka's source of power and use it against alir.

Defeat devout templars in Rubak, and loot the talismans or signets which are the souce of their ancient power.

Loot ancient relics from templars within Rubak 0/6 (Rubak Oseka)

Defeat devout templars 0/6 (Rubak Oseka)

Clear your way down to the bottom floor of the temple. As you're doing so, three people should each loot two items (dropped by the templars): "Pearlescent Signet" and "Ancient Pearlescent Talisman".

Travel to the pearl at the heart of Rubak 0/1 (Rubak Oseka)

Task Window Says: At the heart of Rubak the High Priests of Oseka gather.

On the bottom floor of the temple are 4x "High Priest of Oseka". They are non-aggro until the event is triggered.

Release water from Fury of the Tides to interrupt the High Priests 0/1 (Rubak Oseka)

Task Window Says: Using the Fury of the Tides, create a distraction large enough to interrupt the High Priests of Oseka.

NOTE: The task locks when you update this step.

When ready for a fight, someone needs to move into their vicinity and click the "Fury of the Tides", causing all four to activate.

A drop of water spills from the vial, causing a tremulous wave of disruption.

The four mobs rush your party (one of the priests turns into "High Priest Xalziks").

Defeat High Priests 0/3 (Rubak Oseka)

Defeat Zealots 0/2 (Rubak Oseka)

In Summary...

- Burn down three High Priests as quickly as possible
- Get out of the whirlpools as they spawn
--- NOTE: Whirlpools won't spawn as long as your DPS is focused on Xalziks
- Kill the zealots before they reach the water
- Once you have only High Priest Xalziks left, use the six click effects on it
- Kill the newly spawned zealots before they reach the water

In Detail...

The four mobs each hit for a max ~12,500. The High Priests of Oseka (which are mezzable) each cast "Up From the Depths":

Up From the Depths: PB AE 40', Magic (-900)
1: Knockback (7) and Toss Up (2)
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 14200

High Priest Xalziks (which is not mezzable) casts "Up From the Depths" and "Riptide" (hits multiple targets at a time):

Riptide: Single Target, Magic (-900)
1: 100% Chance to trigger: Tide Pull
2: Unknown #343
3: Decrease Hitpoints by 15050

"Riptide" triggers "Tide Pull" which is a one-tick pull-spell (will pull you towards the mob).

During the encounter, you'll see emote warnings about a whirlpool spawn:

Target Sees: A whirlpool begins to form around you.

Everyone Else Sees: Swirls of violent water and wind begin to form around _____.

This emote is a 9-second warning that a whirlpool is about to spawn on the targeted player. It comes with a large damage aura and pull effect.

NOTE: As long as your DPS is focused on "High Priest Xalziks", the whirlpools will not appear.

Additional emotes seen during the encounter (their effect, if any, is unknown):

A surge of water can be heard rushing up from the depths of Rubak.

The tide begins to turn.

As the fight goes on, "High Priest Xalziks" will turn into "High Priest of Oseka" and, consequently, one of the "High Priest of Oseka" will turn into "High Priest Xalziks". When this happens, there is no change in health. If you kill a High Priest while its name is "High Priest Xalziks", it still counts towards towards the task update.

If you kill "High Priest Xalziks" while other "High Priest of Oseka" are still alive, one of the remaining mobs will turn into "High Priest Xalziks".

While all this is going on, non-aggro Hadal zealots will spawn and wander towards the water. These need to be killed before they reach the water, otherwise they turn into an add ("a devout templar"). If this happens, you'll see this emote:

A zealot has made the ultimate sacrifice, allowing another High Priest to appear.

Zealots spawn one at a time (about every 45 seconds) and can appear in any of the bottom three alcoves.

Confine Oseka's spirit in the body of High Priest Xalziks 0/1 (Rubak Oseka)

Task Window Says: Use the Pearlescent Talismans or Pearlescent Signets to bind Oseka's essence into the body of High Priest Xalziks.

With the three High Priests dead, leaving Xalziks as the only remaining one up, the people who looted the talismans and signets need to click them on Xalziks. The clicks all need to be done within seconds of each other.

NOTE: The clicks won't work properly if there is still a "High Priest of Oseka" alive. "High Priest Xalziks" must be the only mob left.

If you try clicking on a regular High Priest, you'll see this failure emote:

Oseka can only be confined while in the body of High Priest Xalziks.

Upon successful clicks, you'll see:

The tides begin to calm, as a portion of Oseka's power returns to the pearl.

Zealots begin marching toward the water, in an attempt to free Oseka's spirit through their own death.

...And several zealots spawn and begin walking towards the water. They all must be killed before they reach the water. Once the zealots are dead, this step updates. The remainder of the task is non-combat.

Hear Oseka's words and ensure alir essence returns to the pearl 0/1 (Rubak Oseka)

Task Window Says: Unable to find a new host for alir spirit, Oseka's essence is forced to return to the pearl, but not without having the final word.

High Priest Xalziks gurgles while struggling to form cryptic words, 'Your so-called Gods are weak; pathetic. Fear is easily trumped, as you proved by defeating one of your own lesser Gods. I suppose I should thank you for your unintentional gift.'

High Priest Xalziks trembles as the remnants of life fade from its body, but the voice of Oseka continues, 'Do not think that you have seen the last of me. I may not be able to possess another mortal body, but I will assume my rightful place amongst my followers. This land will be reclaimed from the lesser gods, one way or another. I will not spend eternity confined in the depths of Rubak!' As Oseka's final words echo throughout Rubak, a brilliant light escapes the limp body of High Priest Xalziks and travels toward the pearl.

An "Essence of Oseka" appears and disappears into the pearl.

Loot the watery chest for your reward 0/1 (Rubak Oseka)

Task Window Says: Some treasures of Oseka are contained within this chest.

As a result of your heroic efforts, Oseka's spirit has returned to the pearl; no longer able to possess the mortal bodies of alir High Priests.

Was finally able to beat this after a failed first attempt.

Took the first run to figure out how to handle it with today's DPS.

I would say the hardest part of the task was fighting the pull of the whirlpool when trying to take out the zealots. We contained Xalziks the first run, but because the whirlpool interrupted casting with all the movement, we weren't able to take out the last zealot before he hit the water. It took us a few clearings of the spare templars at the bottom of the zone to get enough clickies again.

We ended up killing xalziks a couple times as we didn't have enough click the second time we tried to contain him.

The best thing to do is make sure you have dedicated DPS focusing on the zealots that keep spawning throughout to keep the High Priest spawns under control. CC or healing or a good tank should be enough to hold aggro and keep pulling the extra mobs if things go haywire.

Helps to have one person looting and handing out the clickies. You can set hotkeys and click them from inventory.

Even after a properly executed clickfest, if you kill the final Xalziks BEFORE killing the final 6 zealots, you're screwed. Another HP Oseka spawns in his place and you are back to looting up signets and talismans all over again. Need to offtank the final Xalziks and let the script play out, he must not die.

Wrote this for my guildies, figured it would benefit the greater community as well. Much of this is just the Zam strat copied with some notes attached.

This mission is an official PITA, and with that being said, I will simplify it as much as I can to make it as easy to complete as possible.

This mission requires a solid healer (non-merc preferred, though I have done it with one), a solid tank (merc does NOT work), some very high DPS (someone who can nuke or do nearly 100k in one hit preferred), and a mezzer.

Before you start the event, 3 people must each loot a talisman and a signet from the trash mobs on the way down. This must be done each time you wipe/die/leave the zone. (F U Sony)

Once you do this, set up in the 2nd alcove up from the water. Have everyone target the front right High Priest from this perspective. This is the one who will turn into the named High Priest. When you are ready, have the puller run over the mobs and click their Fury of the Tides (given for requesting the mission). This will start the event. Pull the mobs to the front of the 2nd alcove and tank/mez/kill them there.

When you pull, gather the 4 mobs into the entrance of the alcove and mez 3 of the 4 mobs. Open up on High Priest Xalziks with everything you have (once the tank has agro).

Ideally, with the proper DPS, Xalziks will be dead before he switches or shortly after. If Xalziks does switch before you have him dead, kill the now non-named priest.

If you kill "High Priest Xalziks" while other "High Priest of Oseka" are still alive, one of the remaining mobs will turn into "High Priest Xalziks".

While all this is going on, non-aggro Hadal zealots (won't fight back if you hit them) will spawn and wander towards the water.

Have someone who is not DPSing the named HP, likely the mezzer, watch out for the Zealot spawns. These adds have very low hp (~100K). Set up hotkeys to call out locations. TOP, MIDDLE, and BOTTOM respectivly. When these zealots are called they take priority over DPSing the named HP. With the proper focus, these adds will not last more than a few seconds and should not take more than 1 person to kill.

With the three High Priests dead, leaving Xalziks as the only remaining one up, the people who looted the talismans and signets need to click them on Xalziks. The clicks all need to be done within seconds of each other.

Have one person in your group (the mezzer, preferably as they will not have anything left to mez at this point) set up a hotkey for the countdown. It should be something along the lines of:
/pause 20, /g Target High Priest Xalziks and click in 4
/pause 20, /g 3
/pause 20, /g 2
/pause 20, /g 1
/pause 20, CLICK NOW!

At this point, 6 Zealots (two in each of the bottom three alcoves) spawn and begin walking towards the water. They all must be killed before they reach the water. Once the zealots are dead, this step updates. The remainder of the task is non-combat.

Additional Notes:
-There is no final boss to this mission: go full burn from the moment the encounter starts. The quicker the named HP dies, the better off you are.
-Audio Triggers do not seem to work for the whirlpool emote, you must pay attention for it (pops up on your screen as a yellow emote)
-The pull is one of the harder parts for this mission, everyone but the tank and the puller should be back a ways into the alcove to make it easier on them.
-The Talisman and the Signet both look like normal items (no item effect in the inspect window) but must be right clicked when called for. They will poof on use so you know you clicked it.
-When you are killing the final 6 zealots, the named is still active and beating on the tank. This also means the whirlpools spawn and can wipe you here (has happened to me when we had one zealot left /rage)

Much of the credit here goes to the Zam write-up, with my personal experience to supplement it.

This is one heck of a frustrating mission for any casual grouper. If you are a bard puller, your instinct here is to AE mez instead of fade off the bat. Everyone gets agro once the vial is clicked. Mercs on hold, pull all mobs to group, AE mez, and burn down named. Even when you get those steps right it could still go wrong but it's the best chance of winning. It almost feels like a raid script but with noobie level loot compared to what the raiders get. This needs to have T2 raid type of loot to be worth learning... otherwise, skip this mission. Bad job on this one Sony.

I've tried it a couple times now, my best attempt I made it to last High Priest of Oseka. This is with a war/clr/dru/enc/mag/wiz @ lvl95 in VoA cultural plus VoA T4/HoT T4 non-visibles (~82k hp war, ~60k mana casters).

I can say that Redwise's comments on 12/9/2011 are indeed correct and his strategy sounds like one possible way if you have the DPS.

Here's some other observations that may clear up some confusion:
  • Clicking the Fury of the Tides can be done from a good distance (I did it from the bottom cubby/cave) and they rushed me
  • Immediately one of the High Priest of Oseka turns into High Priest Xalziks (1.9million HP, 12.7k max hit vs 95 war max AA)
  • All 3 of the High Priest of Oseka are mezzable and do not break mez until one turns into High Priest Xalziks
  • Keeping your DPS focused on HP Xalziks doesn't prevent riptide from occurring, you must kill it within 45 seconds to prevent Riptide (whirlpool).
  • You can indeed move away from riptide/whirlpool if it occurs, just keep trying to run away for 2-3 seconds and it'll stop pulling you in.
  • About 25-35 seconds into the fight, High Priest Xalziks casts Up from the Depths
  • It appears about 45-60 seconds into the fight 'a zealot' spawns and walks to the water, they have ~100k HP
  • Failure to kill 'a zealot' before it reaches the water spawns "High Priest of Oseka" & "A Devout Templar"
  • If you succor, do yourself a favor and everyone zone out. The event is buggy and I've seen High Priest Xalziks/a devout templar stay up after reset if you remain in zone.
  • If you die or zone, your Ancient Pearlescent Talisman & Pearlescent Signet vanish and you have to rekill the 'a devout templars' to get more.

My group has tried and tried and tried to beat this gd event...it is ridiculously hard and in dire need of a retune. Yes I know some are able to do it but cmon its GROUP content, those that are able to beat it are generally bleeding edge raiders..not casual groupers. I have a high amount of doubt that a casual group or worse a pick up group can ever be hopeful of a win here. No it isnt needed for language but it is needed for the final trophy. I have had little problems with my group (all seasoned raiders that have since retired and are in a hodge podge of grp and raid gear) with any of the other tasks in any of the other zones (the temple #2 grp task was tough but still doable with concentration), this one though is just stoopid hard.

ok so i am bailing on this task for now, with bard aoe mezz the spike between mexxes is to much, wipes the tnak and group dies, plus the whirlpools seem to kill the runner 50% of the time because even with bard speed u arent faster then the pull, also i have single-pulled the named multiple times, if u dont have all 4 priests aggroed on you the event resets itself
Tip

i haven't beaten this yet... but i have found that to avoid wiping to the whirl pool follow the yellow notifications on the screen, and when it says the tides focus in (name) have that person run like hell, that way the whirlpool doesn't wipe you group or do any damage

FACTS

If you die after looting the relics they disappear

The priests are mezzable but the name summons a whirpool which killed 6 good geared level 95 players instantly

The name summons this whirpool in about 30 seconds of fighting it

As you kill the name it pops as one of the other priests

If you succed in killing the 3 priests and only have the name left clicking the relics even a second apart FAILS and you start ALL over again looting relics

I would like to know if anyone has actaully beaten this quest and knows the trick to not die. Our grp consisted of all t4 level 95 necro shammie skele knight cleric and ranger. All died before we could see what happened. Most toons were far away from the whirpool and still got killed. We have attempted this quest 8 times and consider it impossible

Not Obvious
# Dec 09 2011 at 5:41 PM Rating: Decent
47 posts
It is not obvious whatsoever due to the tasks, but here is what to do.

  • Pull HP and Named somewhere. Bunch them up, AE mezz HP, and burn named.
  • When named dies, it will switch to one of the mezzed HP and update the task with one HP killed. That is the non-obvious part. Killing the named gives credit for killing an HP.
  • Continue to kill the Named in this fashion. Until no HP left.
  • While killing named, or after all the HP are dead, kill zealots whenever they spawn.
  • Once you have the the two kill steps done, click the Named with the drops quickly. Doing all the clicks corrrectly WILL NOT update the step. It will spawn 6 more zealots, 2 in each of the bottom three cones, that must be killed before they reach the water. Once the 6 zealots are dead, the confine step updates.
  • Lastly, just wait for the rest of the steps to update. There will still be some AEs going on, so heal, but the mission is done.

Edit: The AEs and whirlpools are failure mechanics for not killing the named fast enough. If you are getting AEs and whirlpools, you are not killing fast enough.

We attempted this mission several times the problems seem to come in at the bottom during the fight with the 4 mobs. we did find out some info the high priests are mezable but it looks like they wake each other up also the priest Xalziks is not mezable. we found that when we engaged xalziks we were able to keep t5he others mezzed untill a point where he switches to a different priest of the four then the body he was occupying turns into a priest again and he attacks I am guessing you have to just rotate through the group and just stay on the named and keep the others mezzzed we diddnt get past this point also they are non splitable but on some pulls we seemed to only get 3 of the 4 dont know why. Also if the group looses aggro they despawn and resawn back at there spawn point but we found the drops we gathered on the way down seemed to dissapear if ya die or leave the zone.
