Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This solo task begins with Atleris, Council Pinnacle, in Argath inside the council building on the zone-in level.

Pre-requisites for requesting the task:
- Completion of "This is Argath"
- Completion of "Shoring Up Defenses"
- Completion of "Protect the Arms"
- Completion of "The Riddle of Steel"
- (no minimum skill level in Alaran Language)

You say, 'Hail, Atleris, Council Pinnacle'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Your [help] has been invaluable to us! Thank you for [speak]ing with Vitesal, but ali disappoints me. Alir failures cost time. We still do not know why the Forge erupted. What we do know is that its increased power must not fall to Erillon. Even now the enemy redoubles their bombardment, pelting our forces with catapults. I would station more archers at the Forge Overlook, but the enemy's projectiles would crush them. We must destroy the catapults so we can push back Erillon's forces and [resupply] the defenders inside the Forge.'

You say, 'Resupply the defenders?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Argath's champions guard the Forge entrance. The Forge attendants and channelers labor to contain the Forge's steel well. These Argathians have served bravely without resupply since Erillon entered our gates. Unless we can destroy the catapults and [repel] the Erillons, those inside the Forge will perish of hunger.'

You say, 'How do we repel them?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Alassin formed a plan. Al collaborated with Mizzenblast the outsider. Will you [work] with them?'

You say, 'I'll work with Alassin'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'I place little faith in this plan, but we have no recourse. You may find Alassin on the crown. If you manage to destroy the catapults, try to capture any Erillian commander you can find. They must answer for Erillion's villainy!'

You have been assigned the task 'Breaking Ballistae'.

The Erillion catapults wear away at Argath's defenses. Atleris asks you to help Alassin and Mizzenblast destroy them. Atleris also told you to find and interrogate any commanding Erillion officers you find in the valley.

Speak with Alassin on the Crown.

Speak with Alassin 0/1 (Argath)

Alassin is in the building closest to the air ship drop-off from Steamfont, at about 315, 200, 7.

You say, 'Hail, Alassin'

Alassin says 'Yes, I have been working with crazy Mizzenblast. Al is -- what is it called? -- a gnome? Are all gnomes crazy?'

Speak with Mizzenblast 0/1 (Argath)

Task Window Says: Alassin is not confident in Mizzenblast's plan, but it is the only plan.

Mizzenblast is found in a building near Troopwielder Latakan in the northern part of the Arms.

You say, 'Hail, Mizzenblast'

Mizzenblast says 'Blow ourselves up? No! Have you been listening to Alassin? Maybe I don't speak Alaran as well as I thought I did. He's been telling everyone about how stupid he thinks my plan is, but he doesn't even understand it! It's really quite [simple].'

You receive a Mizzenblast Exoblast.

You say, 'Simple?'

Mizzenblast says 'I modified some of my clockwork spheres, reinforcing them with several layers of steel. Within these layers, I wrapped packets of explosive powder. With a reflective coating of Argathian steel near the handle, the bearer of the device can stay safe from any shrapnel. So, we can walk right up to the catapults and [detonate] the explosives without fear!'

You say, 'Detonate, how?'

Mizzenblast says 'This is the genius of my design: The inner steel lining keeps the bearer completely unharmed! See, I'm not as crazy as Alassin thinks I am! Take a sphere and get to work!'

Destroy the first Erillian catapult 0/1 (Argath)

Destroy the second Erillian catapult 0/1 (Argath)

Destroy the third Erillian catapult 0/1 (Argath)

Destroy the fourth Erillian catapult 0/1 (Argath)

The four catapults are found in the lower area of the zone. Get up close to them and then click the Mizzenblast Exoblast (20-second cast) to destroy them.

Subdue and interrogate Intellector Galdon 0/1 (Argath)

Task Window Says: Now that you have cripples the enemy's catapults, find and interrogate an enemy commander.

Intellector Galdon spawns in the central area of the "belly", in the middle of the erupted forge (near Catapult #3). The two soother spawns next to him have a short respawn timer. They are splittable.

Galdon hits for a max ~12,000 and AE rampages. He'll go inactive as he reaches low health:

Intellector Galdon says 'Stop! Do not kill me! I will talk! Yes, Erillion wants the Forge. The Orator has commanded us to sieze it. Why would al not want it? It produces the finest steel in Alaris. And Argath has the greatest defenses. It is the perfect fortress for a great army! No, we did not poison the Forge. I have told you everything. Now please, spare my life!'

Speak with Bursin the Legend 0/1 (Argath)

Bursin the Legend is found at about -160, -500, -400 (outside the main forge area, accessed via the southwestern part of Argath's "Belly".

You say, 'Hail, Bursin the Legend'

Bursin the Legend says 'Halt! What sort of creature are you? [Explain] yourself! Are you a thrall of Erillion? Do you bring supplies?'

4 Box'd
  • 96 Enchanter + T5 DPS Caster,
  • 89 Cleric + T5 Tank Merc,
  • 89 SK,
  • 88 rogue.

Enchanter is VOA Tier 4 geared, the rest are a mix between paragon and Hot Tier 1,2; all all-access. It was tough but do-able, Merc tank has only about 20 AA's and some lvl 80 merc tank gear, but keeping shining rampart/defense + vie and in a constant HoT on the tank, healing wasn't bad. Used combinations of pacify, mezz aggro pulling, punting(BDB) to get singles because the merc tank couldn't handle 2, or mezzed when I had to.

When it came to Galdon, pulled with the SK and FDd, then tagged with the chanter if the soothers were far enough away. Kept chanter group rune on and subdued Galdron.

Note here on FD, I guess if your puller is still FD when Galdron goes away, the FD'er won't get the update. Had to do that part twice because the SK was still FD after we beat down Galdron.

I got all 4 ballistas by casting harmshield on myself and walking to the center of the catapult, then spam FD till HS wears off.Always made sure I was pointing towards a safe area,so when I got up I made a dash straight to a safe area and Fd again to clear aggro. Then off to the next one.

You cannot use the object while in HS. I don't know how you did this, just tried it.

Read all the words on the page. HS to get to the target (the middle of the catapult). Face the direction of a safe space for the run out Spam FD so as to FD as soon as HS wears off,. Wait for agro to clear. Stand, activate device, RUN! FD at safe place. Rinse, repeat.
A bit larger help for the NON-UBAH!:

Different methods we tried this time:

1. Bard/Monk/Bst with Possum-AA/SK/Nec -> run and FD on the Ballistae
2. Bard/Enc -> mezz all and after going beyond remove aggro
3. Kill all

If you use method three, then get the 3 killing tasks (or all five) then you get good amount of exp and for every task a book (Alaran Language about +5) because you will surely do them if you slaughter your way down:
- Slimming the Invaders - Captain Walkath "assistance" - kill footsoldiers/Blade Guides/Regulants
- Collecting Blades - Blacksmith Zojirath - "Blades" - kill living/empowered blades
- Collecting Steels - Blacksmith Zojirath - "steels" - kill living/molten steels

Ballistae:
- Ballistae 1+2: simple killing mobs or killing only seeinvis and walking in invis to get update
- Ballistae 4: the three down are mezzable or kill em, the three up hopefully dont see invis and you can jump in the middle of the ballistae and get update
- Ballistae 3: take the same type, not the big one seen first! If you dont get a update, check if it is the real ballistae. The dark big one is wrong, the light small one is the right one. Take care about the seeinvis mobs on the ridge around the area of Ballistae 3. Also there are some named which can ruin your run (last time two spawned at one time at the ballistae).

If you have problems:
- stay on the middle of the ballistae, if update does not work then try again a little on another spot. It is only a small area where the update works.
- if invis you can trigger the update without getting visible, if FD it is the same.

Galdon:

- no mezz
- no paci
- single pullable with push (Bard, assumably Enc but didnt tried that) or with FD-Pull
- take care about the 30k-AE (not sure how much exactly but a 60kHP/5,5KAC Tank goes down if he has only 30k left
- after he gets down he will stop fighting and start to run short after (last time at about 35%)
- if he stops/runs you need to hail him or you don't get the update (last time three of four in group didnt got the update!)
- he disappears after running against the wall (ports somewhere)

Bursin:
- simple, only mezz, kill or train-FD (better not) your way to Bursin. Last time somebody killed our group with this. Think about that there are camping spots of named (Blademaster) on this way. His legends are not KOS, hail him and you get your update. Dont forget to get the next quest from him, its the Argath#6: Critical Mass or you have to redo that.

Got Flag - but some problems - he can pulled solo.

Next try was better but:

on the walls around are SeeInvis mobs, which are fast repoppers, three are on the ballistae which are somewhat linked together.

With a bard Galdon can be separated from the two buddies. He got under 49% and started to run into the wall - only got one char to hail and got the flag, the other hailed too early and got nothing. He was fast out of the way (ported after running into the wall). So be fast on hailing till you get your flag.

Under the bridge is a safe spot but in front of the bridge sometimes there is a seeinvis popping. Did your fellowship there. Good to port down after Exodus.

The Catapults were easy. Mezzing, clearing aggro, invis and proceed. But Galdon is horror. He always comes with his two buddies and they cannot be mezzed. Puller instantly wipes, tank with three on them is right dead - 10k hitters, no problem - three of them, that seems is a bit above a lvl92 troop with only group gear.

That should be solo content for the entrance in Argath at lvl90 - lol.. not really.

Any hints on that appreciated.

Group atm at

Enc 92
War 92
Dru 92
Bst 89
War Merc 92 Tier 5
Clr Merc 92 Tier 5

Mercs are dead fast, Tank lasted some seconds longer....

FYI to those doing this quest. Once you start blowing up the catapults, all mobs associated with this quest is down the belly. I double backed up and down and out the belly trying to find Bursin. He is down there too. Saves you some clearing time from those see invis mobs you cleared earlier which may have already respawned.
BARD's way of taking down Catapult #1
# Jan 12 2012 at 3:32 AM Rating: Decent
Catapult #1, known as #1, hereinafter, was destroyed as follows.
NOTE: The Bard was grouped with a Cleric, who stayed in a safe place during this event. Both the Bard and the Cleric got quest updates when #1 was destroyed.
1) Bard had run speed followed by invis running.
2) Pulled, using Dirge of the Sleepwalker, the see invis mob "a dark spellrazer." Pulled this mob out and to the Bard's left (into a little cove like area). Watch out for the living steel and molten steel mobs when your invis drops.
3) Fade.
4) Invis, run to #1, right side.
5) Fade again, if necessary.
6) Standing to the right side of #1, target #1, and inch in. Climb aboard #1 on the side which is farthest away from #1's guards.
7) Inch toward #1's middle, #1 targeted, and keep trying to activate the Mizzenblast Exoblast, equipped in your primary slot.
8) Eventually, Mizzenblast Exoblast will activate. It takes 30 seconds to explode #1.
9) Invis and run out. Fade if necessary as you head to your safe spot up the stairs.
I haven't tried the others ones, yet. I hope this will help some groups who have a Bard.

I duoed this with a druid. Did as suggested by the monk. I would run and FD until clear and then run again until I got to the catapult. You can FD right in the center of it, to the side will not get the update. Then while FD'd you hit the clicky and 20 seconds later you get the update. You will need to use the run FD plan to get back out and up to the final update NPC. He is located in the building just below the blocked stairway down to the belly. I have not yet found an easy way to get the druid there by running. Too many see invis. Will have to explore more later. Does anyone know how to get to the final NPC Bursin without either fighting or FDing your way in?

Had chanter/war die then /corpsedraged them there and rezzed. Lot faster to FD to him than mezzing or fighting through, at least for me.

For this one.

Turns out all you have to do is train your way to the catapults, and fd on top of them, target, and click your clicky. 20 seconds later, you have your updates.

As for the named, that's for you to decide. A group can be useful here, but it could be duoed with the right pair. Like 2 necros :-)
Targeting catapult #3
# Nov 30 2011 at 10:46 PM Rating: Decent
I can target catapults #1, #2 and #4 just fine... but can't target #3 on either of my toons. Am i missing something? Making it kinda hard to finish the quest.

Dozy Ranger.. was trying to select the big catapult and not the little one behind it )

This quest is pretty easily read with just the task menu.

Go into the belly of the zone after hailing a few people, and receiving your quest weapon/item. This is a little deeper in then the previous quest with combining mobs.

As you progress around the boundaries of the belly you will find some see-invis mobs which are also close together, usually 3 or 4 in a pack. These have to be cleared or led away in order to approach the catapults and use you item to destroy them. These are not the catapults in the bottom level just off the spiral ramp, they are actually in the belly section.

Please don't train everyone trying to get your catapult killed :-)

the catapults are in the bottom where all the molten steel is, is marked on map now. 3 mobs with the catapults.
