Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This is the first task in a series of six; a solo task that begins with Atleris, Council Pinnacle, in Argath. He's located in the council building at -10, 445, 3 (west-central part of the zone-in area).

You say, 'Hail, Atleris, Council Pinnacle'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle looks at you with resignation. 'It has come to this. Argath was once the pinnacle of strength in Alaris. A single warrior could cleave the helms of a hundred Erillion Blades. A regiment would secure surrender from a city with the mere whisper of our advance. Our mountain bled the finest steel; our steel bled our foes of life. Might and skill were ours, and we [lived] for battle.

You say, 'Lived?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says ''Indeed, so we once lived. But all things die. As from the corpses of wild and savage beasts grows the grass, warriors become crafters, swords become spades, and spears become cogs and gears. Peace has a way of conquering the strongest soldiers. Calm centuries dimmed the light of battle in our hearts. Commerce became our commander, and it dispatched us to the corners of Alaris, bearing [life] instead of death.'

You say, 'Life?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'The treaty with Erillion ended our lives as warriors. With the land at peace, we were reborn. We built houses, buttressed temples, and harvested crops. With our steel, we crafted the implements of Alaris, everything from walking sticks to sky ships. Our might strengthened others, while our own power withered. Now it has come to this: Argath needs the [help] of [outsiders].'

You say, 'Outsiders, us?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'What are you? Arriving on ships that rival the fleets of Windsong, you stride through our city with bold countenance, speaking as though unafraid of any Argathian or Erillian. Your shapes and sizes are varied and perplexing. You carry weapons of which even our Forge attendants could not conceive. You bring with you the smell of [battle]; I know you have taken many lives and would not hesitate to do so again.'

You say, 'What battle?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'I barely recognize it. You see these robes I wear. I have never lifted a sword. Time and peace made us weak, and most of us cannot handle a blade. Only the Regiment knows of battle, but they are tyros. Let it not be said outside this chamber, but Erillion will overwhelm us; our [defenses] will collapse.'

You say, 'Defenses?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Many nights have passed since Erillion breached the gates. Our citizens cower on higher ground, while the Regiment stymies the enemy with arrows. Our supplies dwindle; our defenders are slain. Argath will not last. You are our only recourse. Will you [help] us?'

You say, 'I'll help!'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'If we must, we shall employ your kind as mercenaries. Erillion must be driven from Argath. Our Forge, our livelihood, must be protected. Speak with Magistrate Altara; al coordinates the mercenary outsiders. Go now. Argath must not fall, or Erillion will rule Alaris. '

You have been assigned the task 'This Is Argath'.

The fortress of Argath has been besieged by the forces of Erilliion. Atleris, Pinnacle of Argath's council, has been using the newly arrived Norrathians to prevent Erillion from conquering all of Argath. Now, Atleris asks you to do what you can to aid the Argathians' defense.

Magistrate Altara, residing within the Pinnacle of Argath, coordinates the efforts of the many Norrathians in Argath.

Speak with Magistrate Altara 0/1 (Argath)

Altara is found in the room to the south of the council chamber (-90, 400, 8).

You say, 'Hail, Magistrate Altara'

Magistrate Altara says 'Another one of you? There must be many cities in the lands beyond the mists. It astonishes me how many strange creatures I have seen stepping from the ships on the dock, and they all seem so eager to help. Of course, some of our Champions have had to deal with unruly outsiders who want to test their strength against Argathians. But you are not like those fools, are you? No, or else [Atleris] would not have sent you to me.'

You say, 'Atleris'

Magistrate Altara says 'The invasion weighs heavily on the Pinnacle of the Council. Alir mood can be dark at times. I do not share alir pessimism, though. The outsiders have brought me new hope that Argath is not lost. When the first of you began arriving, Atleris ordered our spellwielders to destroy your ships. al thought your presence was a ploy of Erillion or Windsong. Were it not for my protestations, many of you would be dead. Because of my advocacy for the outsiders, I am their [coordinator].'

You say, 'Their coordinator?'

Magistrate Altara says 'Given Erillion besieges us, and we have only the food we grow here on the Crown, I cannot allow outsiders to run around Argath with no direction. I [direct] their efforts, making certain we work toward the defeat of Erillion and maintain our food supply.'

You say, 'How do you direct the efforts?'

Magistrate Altara says 'I have met enough outsiders to know not all of them can handle a blade. Some should lead peaceful lives as craftsmen or farmers. I can see you are eager to fight Erillion, but I judge you would be better suited helping the haulers [deliver] craet grain.'

You say, 'Helping deliver craet?'

Magistrate Altara says 'Many of our haulers have been killed delivering supplies to the Forge Overlook. The enemy camped in the Belly of Argath fires onto the Breath Spiral and the Overlook, catching our haulers as they unload their cargo. With so many dead, we must turn to outsiders to do their [jobs].'

You say, 'What jobs?'

Magistrate Altara says 'We need to deliver grain to everyone in Argath. This will give you a chance to prove your usefulness to us, and to see our city. Speak with Akesli Temlo. I believe al has almost finished harvesting a bundle of craet. Al will tell you where it needs to go.'

Speak with Akesli Temlo 0/1 (Argath)

Task Window Says: Akesli Temlo gathers grain from the small farm atop Argath's Crown. Altara wants you to assist with the harvest.

Akesli Temlo is found southeast of the council building, across the stream (-260, 100, 2).

You say, 'Hail, Akesli Temlo'

Akesli Temlo says 'Greetings, outsider. I will have to thank Altara for sending you to me! I was just about to finish harvesting a bundle of craet grain, but I could always use your help. Here, take this scythe and finish cutting the remaining sprigs I need.'

You receive a Craet Scythe.

Harvest 8 sprigs of craet grain 0/8 (Argath)

Task Window Says: Akesli needs only a few more sprigs of grain. Use the scythe al gave you to finish the harvest.

You can stand in the plantation nearby and right-click the scythe (you'll occasionally fail) until you get eight updates.

Speak with Akesli Temlo 0/1 (Argath)

Task Window Says: Ask Akesli what you need to do with the grain.

You say, 'Hail, Akesli Temlo'

Akesli Temlo says 'You work quickly! I wish I had five more outsiders like you to tend these fields! You wouldn't know much less about craet grain than I. We planted this farm only weeks ago, after the Forge incident and Erillion's overtures of war. We feared our food supply from the Valley of Lunanyn would be cut off, so the farmers of Lunanyn gave us craet. The farmers would know better than I how to properly plant and harvest it. But you do not have time to listen to me. You should deliver these sprigs to the people of Argath. Hauler Dinalo will help you bundle the craet.'

Speak with Hauler Dinalo 0/1 (Argath)

Hauler Dinalo is found next to Akesli.

You say, 'Hail, Hauler Dinalo'

You receive a box of craet sprigs.

Hauler Dinalo says 'Altara has outsiders working as haulers now? It is shameful we cannot manage the task ourselves. Far longer than I have lived, haulers have been carrying goods from one end of Alaris to another. Now we cannot even carry a bundle of craet in our own [city].'

You say, 'Your city?'

Hauler Dinalo says 'As you no doubt have heard, Erillion has besieged Argath. When we try to deliver supplies to our defenders at the Forge Overlook, Erillian archers aim for our heads. Many of us have been [killed]. If this were not bad enough, hunger has driven some Argathians to thievery, raiding our storehouses and depleting our resources. Other Argathians have turned traitorous, attacking our own soldiers in the name of Erillion, hoping to be spared from execution if Erillion conquers Argath.'

You say, 'Killed?'

Hauler Dinalo says 'Do not worry, though. I will not send you right away to the Forge Overlook. Here is your list of Argathians to whom you should deliver craet sprigs. I have prepared the bundle. It is a bit heavy. Drag it if you must. Good luck, and watch for arrows!'

Hail Noble Allingvi 0/1 (Argath)

If you look at your map, there are four small buildings on the inside of the river. Noble Allingvi is in the northeast building (location 80, -75, 5).

You say, 'Hail, Noble Allingvy'

Noble Allingvy says 'Ah, my craet sprigs! Rations have diminished since the last delivery. Have you been eating my sprigs? No matter; it is either you or some other outsider siphoning food from the mouths of Argathians. I do not know why Atleris has tolerated your presence. Erillion still controls the Belly of Argath, in more ways than one. The outsiders have not [helped] in the least!'

You say, 'Helped?'

Noble Allingvy says 'Yes, you did bring my craet sprigs. Thank you. But I would have you working on the truly useful things: driving off Erillion and giving me back my [home]!'

You say, 'Home?'

Noble Allingvy says 'After the Forge incident, survivors were relocated to the Arms, the Neck, and the Crown. Atleris ordered us nobles to give up some of our houses to shelter affected Argathians. Then Erillion invaded, and more citizens were moved from the Arms to the higher reaches of Argath. Many nobles had to leave homes altogether and find residence in the palace. And so here I am.'

Hail Record Keeper Talantia 0/1 (Argath)

Record Keeper Talantia is found in the room north of the council chamber (120, 525, 8).

You say, 'Hail, Record Keeper Talantia'

Record Keeper Talantia says 'Thank you, outsider. I know you are busy, but will you [speak] with me a moment?'

You say, 'I'll speak with you'

Record Keeper Talantia says 'The tomes hold no record of your kind. Since the arrival of outsiders, I have scoured our annals in search of some description matching what has been arriving on our dock. But in all history, no Argathian has seen or heard of beings beyond the [Alaris] mists.'

You say, 'The Alaris mists?'

Record Keeper Talantia says 'We thought we were a people alone in this solitary land. Argath, Sarith, Windsong, Alra, and Erillion have been our centers of civilization as far back as our lore exists. The only exception is the founding of our city, but that is only a [legend].'

You say, 'A legend?'

Record Keeper Talantia says 'The namesake of our city, Illdaera, was said to be a powerful warrior who sought to craft the mightiest blade in the land. Al searched far and wide for the best source of iron, commanding alir soldiers to dig in every place they camped. Al would conquer cities to dig beneath them and search for iron; al could leave no part of Alaris unsearched. Then al found the mountain of [Argath].'

You say, 'Argath?'

Record Keeper Talantia says 'When the soldiers dug into the mountain, gouts of molten metal surged to the surface, killing many soldiers. Illdaera knew it was not ordinary iron, and al ordered a sword be forged from the metal. Drawing the sword from a pail of water, al swung it at a rock above the oozing wound of the mountain, cleaving it in twain. This was not iron; this was the most fantastic [steel] in all of Alaris.'

You say, 'What steel?'

Record Keeper Talantia says 'It was light as bronze but harder than stone. Illdaera wielded the sword and cut alir way into the mountain, piercing its heart. Around the wound, al built the Forge, the source of Argath's power. Armed with the mightiest blade in Alaris, crafted from the mightiest steel, Illdaera raised the city of Argath, a bastion which no adversary could [overtake].'

You say, 'Overtake?'

Record Keeper Talantia says 'Erillion certainly has proven the legend false. And with your appearance, I do not know what is true anymore. But I have kept you long enough. I will let you return to your deliveries.'

Hail Arthik Jantis 0/1 (Argath)

Arthik is found in the southernmost building on the crown (-265, 0, 5).

You say, 'Hail, Arthik Jantis'

Arthik Jantis says 'Craet! I thought I would never see it again! Citizens do not get a taste until everyone in the palace chews on it first. And you probably chewed on it too. Back when I lived on the Arms, craet was plentiful, and my belly was always full. After the Council [relocated] us, though, I have been getting leaner.'

You say, 'Relocated?'

Arthik Jantis says 'After the Forge incident, I had to leave my home and my shop, making room for the displaced citizens from the Belly. I settled in the Neck for a while, but then Erillion invaded, and we were all shifted higher. Now, here I am, still hungry. Have any more grain?'

Hail Mechanic Dalaber 0/1 (Argath)

Head southeast to the ledge (-385, -170, -12).

You say, 'Hail, Mechanic Dalaber'

Mechanic Dalaber says 'This is all you have? I am about to send down a shipment, but there is not enough here to sustain the Regiment. Even outsiders make poor haulers! We [mechanics] merely control the machines. Haulers must bring the right amount of goods!'

You say, 'Mechanics?'

Mechanic Dalaber says 'We keep Argath running. I personally built this crane, and I maintain it. We craft the machines that built Alaris! What have you done, hauler? You brought the stones; I built the palace!'

Hail Troopwielder Baris 0/1 (Argath)

Troopwielder Baris is up on the ledge at -235, -235, 12.

You say, 'Hail, Troopwielder Baris'

Troopwielder Baris says 'Altara has you hauling craet? What a waste! I have seen the power outsiders wield. If we had an army of them, we would crush the invaders and drive them back to Erillion. The enemy has not encroached upon the Crown, so you are not needed yet among my troops. If I were stationed on the [Overlook], though, I would hand you a bow and put you in my lines of archers. Though we are [inexperienced], I have no doubt your skill would more than compensate.'

You say, 'The Overlook?'

Troopwielder Baris says 'Where Argath's Arms meet, directly above the Forge. Illdaera's Breath cascades through the Breath Spiral of the Neck, spilling onto the Forge Overlook before finally falling into the cooling molds outside the Forge. If you are traveling to the Overlook, be cautious. Erillion fires constantly upon the Neck and Overlook. Many haulers have died delivering supplies to troops and refugees.'

You say, 'Why are you inexperienced?'

Troopwielder Baris says 'Argath long ago abandoned war. The Council maintained the Regiment as a small strike force, capable of mobilizing for brief campaigns beyond Argath. With Alaris at peace, we had no need for a larger army. And with Argath's [impenetrable] walls, the city was its own defense.'

You say, 'Impenetrable?'

Troopwielder Baris says 'Were it not for the [incident] at the Forge, Erillion would never have entered our city.'

You say, 'What incident?'

Troopwielder Baris says 'The eruption. The Forge boiled over. Rivers of steel poured into the Belly, flooding homes and workshops in fire, weakening the walls of Argath, lowering our guard. Erillion attacked days later.'

Hail Lanessic Elset 0/1 (Argath)

Head due north from the Troopwielder to the steps down at 85, -220, 12. Go to the second level down (z-loc -145) and into the first room on your right (loc -95, -160, -149).

You say, 'Hail, Lanessic Elset'

Lanessic Elset says 'You are not hurt, are you? We do not see many haulers. Most of them lie dead at the bottom of the Spiral, killed by Erillian archers or magicians. Few of us venture outside anymore. It would have been better to remain in [Lunanyn] than escape to a prison in these cliffs.'

You say, 'Lunanyn?'

Lanessic Elset says 'Erillion claimed the valley beneath Argath. We farmers of the valley once provided food for much of Alaris, including Argath and Erillion. When Erillian troops marched upon us, we fled to Argath. Generiously, the Argathians gave us these homes in the Neck. But now this generosity is more of a curse. I am sure I will die either of an arrow or hunger.'

Hail Troopwielder Balath 0/1 (Argath)

Back out of the room, all the way down the ramp, then due east to the Overlook (10, -495, -272).

You say, 'Hail, Troopwielder Balath'

Troopwielder Balath says 'An outsider hauler! No wonder you made it without a scratch! Craet sprigs, troops! If you are hungry, come get them. Never mind the [arrows]!'

You say, 'Arrows?'

Troopwielder Balath says 'Erillion cannot hit anything directly above the Forge. We have the high ground, and the arches shield us. Besides, the enemy cannot move any closer with the [steel] still hot, so their aim is poor.'

You say, 'Steel?'

Troopwielder Balath says 'That which allowed Erillion to invade has prevented them from taking the city. The steel lives! Around the flow, swords and spears have sprung to life, and globs of metal wander as if sentient. Erillion fears the steel and has not ventured to take the Forge or climb the arms. We sit here, [safe], until our food dwindles or the enemy becomes emboldened.'

You say, 'Safe?'

Troopwielder Balath says 'Except for a few arrows, bolts, and magic blasts. But my troops never fear! My fellow troopwielders on the Arms might tell you differently, but they are mistaken. Argath will be victorious!'

Hail Troopwielder Latakan 0/1 (Argath)

Head north until you come to Latakan on a bridge at 860, -215, -270.

You say, 'Hail, Troopwielder Latakan'

Troopwielder Latakan says 'You bear sprigs? And thieves have not accosted you? I do not want to accept your delivery while there are creat looters lurking nearby.'

Kill 2 looters or thieves 0/2 (Argath)

Task Window Says: It is too dangerous to hand over the grain when there are creat looters neaby. Defeat them.

Creat looters spawn to the west and south of Latakan. They hit for a max ~7,400.

Hail Troopwielder Latakan 0/1 (Argath)

Task Window Says: Now that the looters are dead, inform Troopwielder Latakan.

You say, 'Hail, Troopwielder Latakan'

Troopwielder Latakan says 'You handled those thieves well, outsider. You should be fighting with the Regiment! Thieves and looters have run rampant on the arms. Ever since the invasion of Erillion and the evacuation of citizens to the Neck and Crown, thieves and looters have been searching for food and valuables in the abandoned workshops and storehouses. Some of these vile naeya have even turned traitorous, pledging loyalty to Erillion and working to sabotage Argath's defenses. We will soon make a push to destroy them. I could use you. First, though, you should return to Magistrate Altara and tell ali you have finished your duties.'

Speak with Magistrate Altara 0/1 (Argath)

You say, 'Hail, Magistrate Altara'

Magistrate Altara says 'You were not killed, and you did not eat all the craet, judging from the size of your belly. I trust I can give you more responsibility. Troopwielder Baris told me al wanted to speak to an outsider about a pressing issue. Go to ali.'

You want a creat looter. Creat looters spawn to the west and south of Latakan. This is an important safety tip for those lvl 85's doing this quest.

Now suppose you're lvl 85 and you see a mob called "a greedy looter" very close to Latakan to the North. You might think "oh there's a looter I need, I'll kill it". You'd be wrong. As the greedy looter punches you in the mouth for 8,000 pts, you'll quickly realize he's not only greedy but a complete bada$$. On the way back to your bind point, you'll probably pull up this page to double-check the quest. And, like me, realize you're an idiot.

The 'a greedy looter' 's do work though, you still get credit for them, though they are a little harder.

Some info
# Nov 14 2012 at 8:36 AM Rating: Good
- Task can be repeated every 6 hours
- Very good exp
- Can be done simultaneously with #2 Shoring up Defenses after first time
- #1 and #2 take less than 15 minutes together. Here's some info for both #1 and #2:
- Akesli Temlo part can be done fast. You can /duck to shorten the "cast time" of the scythe.
- You can jump off of the spiral staircase from the 2nd highest floor without dying.
- You can jump off of the damaged walls section without dying.
- Balath's bow task: Go to the ramp north of Balath, jump onto the handrail and shoot from there. Don't aggro other mobs, just the siege runners.
- The siege runners explode for 40k damage if they are near you when you shoot them, so try to catch them before the get onto ramp. You can leave them be and let them run past you if you want to.
- Latakan's "kill 2 craet looters" can be done fast too. The craet looters next too Beasts' Domain hit for only 1-2k.
- Craet looters are single pulls, other mobs don't assist them. Only the other looters assist - if you pull other looter too near to them.

I recommend everybody to do these tasks once they log in, fast, good and risk-free exp.

Craet looters are NOT the same as Hungry thief.

Craet looters are designed to be easier for this quest.

Hungry thief are typical trash. If I recall correctly, they are designed at a toughness of about T3 HoT.

Craet looters are no where near as difficult as the hungry thieves.

Parse:

[Fri Nov 18 05:19:16 2011] A craet looter pierces YOU for 1433 points of damage.
