Anniversary events tend to run from mid-March to mid-April (sometimes to mid-May) each year. They are not available during the "off season".
For an overview and list of EverQuest Anniversary events, see this quest entry. This is one of two anniversary tasks related to killing the Mechamatic Guardian. For an outline of the Mechamatic Guardian encounter and its mechanics, see this quest entry. This is a solo task (for which you'll need many, many friends to complete) that made its debut with EverQuest's 12th anniversary. It is expected to only remain available during the anniversary/fabled period. It's given by Gearbie Gogglenoggin at location 1825, 2290, 122 in the Dragonscale Hills (northwest of the Citadel). You say, 'Hail, Gearbie Gogglenoggin' Gearbie Gogglenoggin says 'Well hello there! Isn't this a fine time to be alive! I stand here looking over this pleasant field to look at the greatest achievement of all Gnomekind. Look at it. It is beautiful! And with all the, um, work I've had done on it, some of its [lost functionality] has been restored. What a wonderful day!' You say, 'Lost functionality?' Gearbie Gogglenoggin says 'The Mechamatic Guardian is a machine of war, a tool of destruction! But when it fell from the fortress above it lost its direction. It has been wandering around these hills with no focus. Now I have taught it how to kill again? Sure, it's not fully functional. It can't strike with its arms, but it has most of its offensive magical abilities back! It has also lost its mystical shielding. So go [attack it]!' You say, 'Attack it?' Gearbie Gogglenoggin says 'Sure! Isn't that what you adventurers do? Besides, when you do the mechanics and troopers and such will come out here where you can get at them. Then you can attack them too! Won't it be fun! Then you can gather up some [things] I need and we'll all be happy!' You say, 'What things?' Gearbie Gogglenoggin says 'Oh, you know, things. I'll tell you what they are if you agree to [get them] for me. Will you? I have interesting plans for those things, after all.' You say, 'I will get them.' Gearbie Gogglenoggin says 'Well that's just great! Here's the list. I have a few things I need, just a few. Only two lists, not that big of a deal.' You have been assigned the task 'Parts Is Parts'. You have been assigned the task 'Maximum Capacity'. Gearbie has asked you to collect some things. He hasn't told you what he plans to do with them, but he did specify that he needed a hard to find part, something about collecting steam energy. He hinted that this was the real reason that he wanted to stir up the defenders of the Mechamatic Guardian. He has promised some sort of reward. You'll need to hurry, though, since the adjustments he made to the Mechamatic Guardian will not last long. This task is progressed by killing the Mechamatic Guardian in the Dragonscale Hills. Updates occur as the Guardian passes 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, and 10% health (these are the five "Recover..." steps listed below). NOTE: You can get these "Recover..." updates in any order. Recover a silver spring from the Mechamatic Guardian 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) As it reaches 80%, you see: The Mechamatic Guardian smokes and groans. You smell burning oil and hot iron. An explosion sends parts flying in all directions. One of those parts lodges itself in your hair after pinging off your head. It is a delicate spring made of an alloy of silver. Despite the impact it made on your skull, it remains undamaged. You put it in your pocket, thinking that it might have value to someone. Recover a gold an silver metallic stip from the Mechamatic Guardian 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) As it reaches 60%, you see: You hear a great explosion and feel a wave of heat, followed closely by a cloud of dark, awful-smelling grease. You look down to discover that the passing cloud has deposited a strip of metal on your armor. It looks like it is made of alternating bands of gold and silver. You wipe it off and drop it into a pocket, suspecting that someone might find it valuable. Recover some flexible metal hose from the Mechamatic Guardian 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) As it reaches 40%, you see: The Mechamatic Guardian erupts in flames, parts are fired out of all of its joints as if they were deadly missiles. Luckily for you, they are not. One of those parts slaps wetly against your arm, then slides off to the ground. As you lean over to pick it up, you see that it is a length of narrow, flexible metal hose. It is covered in oil. Its design is unusual, so you keep it. Someone might find it valuable. Recover a platinum screw from the Mechamatic Guardian 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) As it reaches 20%, you see: You feel the explosion before you realize where it came from. The Mechamatic Guardian is enveloped in flames and smoke curls around it. Something stabs you in the shin. It burns a little too, with both heat and a sensation like really spicy food injected into your blood stream. You pull the offending item from your skin to discover a long screw covered in red oil. Or maybe it is regular oil mixed with some of your blood. You note that the screw is made entirely of platinum, so you pocket it. Someone will find it valuable. Recover a small gold-alloyed gear fro the Mechamatic Guardian 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) As it reaches 10%, you see: The Mechamatic Guardian siezes up with a massive groan. Its defensive shield returns, but flickers in an unstable fashion. You see the great Guardian shudder and seize up. Parts fly everywhere, one of them landing only inches from your foot. It burns itself a few inches into the ground before cooling enough to pick up. It looks like a very small gear made of some type of gold alloy. You pick it up, guessing that Gearbie will be interested in it. Deliver 2 Dented Whirligig to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) Deliver 2 Counterlocking Nut to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) Deliver 2 Super-dense Coal to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) Deliver 2 Steam Coalescer to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) Deliver 2 Steam-infuzed Goo to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) Deliver 2 Acidized Oil to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) Deliver 3 Advanced Steam Injector to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) Deliver 3 Flame Igniter to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) Deliver 1 Steam Capacitor to Gearbie Gogglenoggin 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills) These "Deliver..." items come from the adds' corpses and are pre-lootable. - a steamwork mender primarily drops Dented Whirligig - a steamwork reclaimer primarily drops Counterlocking Nut - a steamwork trooper primarily drops Super-Dense Coal - a steamwork striker primarily drops Steam Coalescer - a steam cleaner primarily drops Steam-Infuzed Goo - an acidic ooze primarily drops Acidized Oil - an enhanced steamsuit primarily drops Advanced Steam Injector - a flamesuit primarily drops Flame Igniter - all adds can drop the Steam Capacitor, but the item is exceptionally rare After completing all turn-ins: Your task 'Maximum Capacity' has been updated.
