This group task (3-6 players) begins with Romiak Jusathorn, the enchanter guildmaster who's illusioned as an aviak in the Academy of Arcane Scientists.

Your faction with Citizens of Freeport must be at least indifferent in order to request this task.

    You say, 'Hail, Romiak Jusathorn'

Romiak Jusathorn says 'Those fools! I can't believe they ran off with it. They have no idea what power lies within that [chest].'

    You say, 'What chest?'

Romiak Jusathorn says 'My lockbox full of powerful spell scrolls and magical artifacts. They've been passed down in my family through the ages, and now they're gone. If used incorrectly they could... Oh my, I don't even want to think about it! This is terrible... Just, just terrible. I couldn't possibly expect anyone to help me [find] it.'

You say, 'Do you see who you're talking to? Of course I can find it.'

Romiak Jusathorn says, 'You would do that for me? I don't know how I would ever be able to repay you. Do what you like with the contents; just return me my vial of desolation. That little guy almost wiped out all of Ak'Anon years back. Use any of the other contents to your liking if you deem it prudent to your success. Most of the potions you may find are simply novelty, but could prove to be useful.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Ooze News'

(Info needed: What other NPCs appear in the instanced zone?)

Enter the Freeport Sewers 0/1 (West Freeport)

The entrance to the zone is marked on your compass. It is a grate on the ground found at location 446, -1520, -112.

Search for Romiak's missing lockbox 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Romiak's Lockbox is just inside the instance. You can /open it to find that it's empty.

Search the Sewers for the missing thieves 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Kill trash mobs until you find the five thieves (who are trapped in the oozes). As you're killing the oozes, they'll sometimes despawn in place of a thief. Then another ooze spawns (unattackable) and wanders away. The thieves (also unattackable) stay up for a time before despawning.

Zahua says, 'Oh wow, I thought I'd never get out of there.'

Kamond says, 'Oh wow, I thought I'd never get out of there.'

Nismas says, 'Thank you for helping me. I could've been stuck there forever!'

Reheza says, 'Thank you for helping me. I could've been stuck there forever!'

    Binaz says, 'Run! Save yourselves!'

The task updates at this point.

    Brez says, 'Run! Save yourselves!'

Destroy the Raging Bile 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

The Raging Bile is found in a northwest room. In the Level 50-60 version of the task, it hits for ~600.

It's not attackable at first. It may not become targettable until the ooze from the last thief spawn location reaches it.

It may split at some point (into either a vile slime or hideous bile, or both?).

Loot the Vial of Desolation from its corpse. (It also drops one item of loot.)

Quickly return to Romiak his Vial of Desolation 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Give the vial to Romaik Jusathorn:

Romiak Jusathorn says, 'You found them! The last of my missing artifacts. If this had fallen into the wrong hands... I.. I can't even imagine what may have happened. I am in your debt.'

    Reward(s):
Increases your faction with Citizens of Freeport.

Possible rewards (looted from the bile named):

    Average Level 50-59

    Silk Headdress of the Patriot

    Average Level 60-68

    ? ? ?

    Average Level 68+

    Avaricious Leather Helmet

killed everything in zone, only 1/5 rogue updates. I suspect slow killing Might work, but haven't tested.

This quest is rather buggy, or at least that is my experience with it. I initially adventured into this task in the hopes of finding some missing item droppers which I did! However, I also tried to finish the quest but was greeted with a few problems.

Firstly, the thieves that are supposed to spawn from the oozes seem to not always actually appear. I was getting quest updates but nobody spawned, no emote went off, and no little slime appeared to wander away. The first 2 thieves spawned no problem but I never saw 3-5. The lack of the spawning secondary ooze led me to my second problem.

The Raging Bile never became attackable. Even though I had successfully found all 5 thieves and the task directed me to now "Destroy the Raging Bile" he remained a noncombat NPC that simply roamed around his room. I waited about an hour and a half to see if there was just a very long delay but the situation never changed. I imagine this is due to the failure of the miniature second oozes which didn't trigger some script to allow him to be attacked.

Overall this quest seems pretty straightforward and kind of boring. Plow through the zone basically clearing every mob you can until you get 5 updates then kill the named. I had maybe 2 mobs left before I got my final thief update from an ooze.

Anyway I doubt anyone will ever care enough to try this quest for themselves as even when PoR is in-era the rewards from this are pretty bland.

Edit: Did it a second time with a different character. No thieves spawned this time and clearing the zone only resulted in 3/5 of them found, mobs don't respawn so this was incompletable. My only hypothesis is that overkilling the blobs breaks the script that allows them to despawn/respawn and that the characters I'm using are too strong.

You get +75 faction for all listed. Pretty nice and easy. Things have a lot more hitpoints than stuff their level, but it's easy to train everything in sight around and up to the NW area, kill it all in one go, then kill the Raging Bile and loot the vial.

Loot from the first round were Avaricious Silk Slippers (guess I need to upload a picture of stats to the database).

Turns out this mission is reasonable plat farming (loot all the "fine" and "glob" items). :)

In doing it again, it became clear that the people you are saving have a chance of spawning from "a hideous ooze" or a "a sludge covered bile."

When they do, they will make a comment, walk away and sometimes turn into "a pulsing bile" (don't kill this -- let it run away).

The comments they make can vary ... but are:

'Oh wow, I thought I'd never get out of there'
'Thank you for helping me. I could've been stuck there forever!'
    'Run! Save yourselves!'
'Zhhdbbgh.. Irghh. I could almost feel the bile pulsing through my veins.'

There are variances on the names of the NPC's you save as well...

    Zahua
    Kamond
    Zismas
    Binaz
    Raheza
    Brez
    Rory
    Jebel

You can actually save more than 5 if you keep killing.

    Did the mission again.

This time an NPC named Rory was among the saved.... so it seems it is not the same 5 NPC's each time. rory, when saved, said:

"Zhhdbbgh.. Irghh. I could almost feel the bile pulsing through my veins."

Also, when Brez appears, tells you to save yourself and walks off, he morphs into "a pulsing bile." This is the ooze to follow to the Raging Bile.

It splits into Vile Slime... a hideous bile is what wonders to the room from the last kill/spawn spot.
