|This is one of five tasks leading up to "The Staff Retreat" and the group progression mission for Morell's Castle, "Hippity Hoppity Kill". |
It's a solo task that begins with Zinahra the Haunted. She is a siren found in the sand castle area of Morell's Castle (445, -5930, -5 -- the southwest part of the beach)..
To get to this area from the zone-in:
- Go through the forest and into the Shellscale water maze (entered in the northeast part of the forest).
- Step into the whirlpool on the second level of the water maze to port to the ship.
- Make your way to the topside of the ship.
- Click on the ship's wheel to port to the beach area.
There are no pre-requisites for requesting this task.
You say, 'Hail, Zinahra the Haunted'
Zinahra the Haunted says 'Hello, wretch. I see you have not escaped this place either. Do you intend to [parlay] with me, or are you here to murder me as these dreadful pirates have attempted?'
You say, 'I'm here to parlay with you'
Zinahra the Haunted says 'I see. I shall study you as you attempt to gain my trust with words. I know not why I am here. I know only my songs, and my [daydreams], a growing desire to leave this place... and also a gnawing sense of dread.'
You say, 'Daydreams?'
Zinahra the Haunted says 'I find myself being lulled to sleep, as easily as I might woo these pitiful humanoids to their doom with my song. Lulled by some unseen whispering voice. Then, the daydreams come to me, unbidden. At first they were languid and beautiful, full of sensual images and colors... Alas, in recent days they have turned much more ominous. Threatening imagery of unpleasantness of all sorts; feelings of fear, of loathing, and of dread. I do not know what is happening to me, and I am not prepared to deal with this sort of [enigma]. I feel as if my earlier daydreams have been forcibly ripped away from me, leaving my imagination desolate and full of darkness.'
You say, 'Enigma?'
Zinahra the Haunted says 'Perhaps it is a cosmic riddle, or a joke played at my expense. I fear I will never be able to find out, just as I am unable to remember my own existence before waking up on this beach beneath this castle of sand. I am constantly having these disturbing visions, along with feelings that I have been trapped here a very long time, and am constantly repeating my thoughts and actions. I do not wish to be trapped; I know that is not my purpose. Learning the nature of the trap may involve your help in completing a [task].'
You say, 'What task?'
Zinahra the Haunted says 'It is a small thing I ask. Listen well! I wish to leave this place, yet I cannot. Every time I try to leave, I find myself becoming more and more confused. I simply lose the will, as if I have forgotten I ever dreamed of leaving in the first place. Instead of my plan for escape, I have strange and terrible visions... as well as seductive and elegant dreams. These are being placed in my head, no doubt, by Morell Thule. I feel his presence still, and it grows more sinister by the hour. Will you [please] help me to escape this place?'
You say, 'Yes... I will please help...'
Zinahra the Haunted says 'Good. I will promise not to enthrall you if you can interrupt the source of the power that keeps me here, and bring me some evidence of whatever it may have been. Find the tangible remains of my daydreams somewhere near the castle; they will no doubt retain some trace of what has been tampering with my will.'
You have been assigned the task 'A Few Buckets of Sand'.
Zinahra the Haunted has asked you to locate her missing daydreams.
Locate the Daydream Patch near Morell's Castle 0/1 (Morell's Castle)
This updates in the northeastern part of the forest area.
You can port back down to the zone-in area by making your way through the sand castle.
The daydreams you need to hail are found in this area.
Contemplate an idle daydream 0/1 (Morell's Castle)
Location: 1900, 550, 100
You say, 'Hail, an idle daydream'
an idle daydream says '(As your mind comes in contact with the idle daydream, you begin seeing a vision through the mind's eye of Zinahra herself. You appear to be on an island, with great cliffs and green rolling plains. A peaceful sailing ship passes by in the distance. You feel the unique personalities of the humanoids aboard. You feel compelled to sing, to draw in as many victims as possible, as fast as you can before your time runs out... Then you feel the interest of a god descend upon you. The god regards your daydream as special, unique... it must be harvested and taken somewhere else... There is agony as you watch yourself - Zinahra - being taken away from 'you'...)'
Contemplate a distracting daydream 0/1 (Morell's Castle)
Location: 2100, 525, 100 (a little further north than the other two, near the phantasms)
You say, 'Hail, a distracting daydream'
a distracting daydream says '(As you make contact with the distracting dream, you have a vision through Zinahra's mind's eye. You are she, travelling among humanoids in Qeynos, disguised as a simple traveler. A man catches your eye in a tavern, and you begin talking. You feel pride in your appearance, despite the disguise you know you are attractive. You decide to lull the man into a sense of false security, but as you lean forward to steal his breath, you suddenly feel your daydream being pulled out of your mind, taken away by an intensely interested godlike being. You sense a deep and abiding loss as you watch yourself - as you watch Zinahra - falling away from 'you'...)'
Contemplate a vivid daydream 0/1 (Morell's Castle)
Location: 1900, 650, 100
You say, 'Hail, a vivid daydream'
a vivid daydream says '(You touch the vivid dream, and a tableau of interesting visions appears before you, through Zinahra's mind's eye. You are with other sirens, preparing to slay a pack of humans that have dared to come too close. Their begging and pleading reach your ears, but these fail to move you. You seize the nearest one by the neck and pull him close, to feed on his fear, to cull his terror for your own increasing sense of power. And you find yourself screaming, for this horrible vision is not entirely yours. This time as your daydream is ripped away from you, you see a vision of the creatures that are helping the deranged God of Dreams harvest the fruits of your imagination... Timekeeper Sandmen, who set back the clock on all the creatures Morell Thule chooses to plunder for dreams. You gasp, as a blurry vision of the interior of a sand castle passes before you.)'
Go to the Sands of the Timekeeper 0/1 (Morell's Castle)
Head all the way back up to the sand castle and find the timekeeper in one of its northern buildings. (Location: 800, -6235, 87)
Speak with the Sandman Timekeeper 0/1 (Morell's Castle)
NOTE: The timekeeper will attack you after you hail it. If, however, you do the hail while invisible, he won't attack.
You say, 'Hail, a sandman timekeeper'
a sandman timekeeper says 'You are not of the Sacred Sand. You are not counted among the number Morell has set aside for us to watch over. We must not be interfered with. You interfere; therefore, you must die.'
The sandman timekeeper attacks (difficulty on par with other trash mobs in the zone: hits for a max ~9,300).
Kill three sandmen 0/3 (Morell's Castle)
The timekeeper updates this step. You'll need to kill two other sandmen.
Look for a Rod of the Sandmen on the sandmen 0/1 (Morell's Castle)
Bring the Rod of the Sandmen to Zinahra the Haunted 0/1 (Morell's Castle)
Zinahra the Haunted says 'A unique metal rod, this? This is what was used to keep me sullen? Or, perhaps it merely focuses the power of the Sandmen on Morell Thule's behalf. No matter. As long as I hold this artifact, the Sandmen can no longer interfere with my mind, and my dreams... so I truly hope.'
Acquire three buckets of Timekeeping Sand from fallen sandmen 0/3 (Morell's Castle)
Deliver three buckets of Timekeeping Sand to Zinahra the Haunted 0/3 (Morell's Castle)
Zinahra the Haunted says 'There aren't very many uses for this special timekeeping sand. I suppose I shall enlist the aid of the diabolists to furnish me with a magic hourglass, that I can use to protect myself from sandmen tampering with my perception of time!'

Zinahra the Haunted says 'Thank you for your efforts on my behalf. No person should ever have their dreams ripped away from them. I will retain the Rod of the Sandmen in case a further use is found for it.'
You have helped the siren Zinahra determine the cause of her disturbing daydreams and visions, and provided her with several buckets of timekeeping sand and a magic artifact which she may use to concoct a defense of some sort against the entities trying to harvest her dreams.
