'a mangy rat' drops the head. It's placeholder seems to be a sewer rat, which paths behind him/upstairs

So, playing on Aradune I decided to test to see if such a low level quest is worth doing anymore.
Level 1 Human Cleric.
First try: 2 sewer rats, one yellow, one white con. Mangy rat spawned right after, white con. Got a Flask of Water and 5c (I feel I caught this at the end of a cycle)
Second try: 12 sewer rats, 4 white, 8 yellow con. One killed by a guard. Had to go to lunch afterwards, but coming back the mangy rat was up. White con. Got only 6c for a reward.
The respawn between rats are around 2min 30sec, give or take a bit. Overall this took between 30minutes to 45 minutes (not including the free mangy rat pop on the second try)
Went from level 1 to level 2 during that time.
The next question one would ask is if it is worth doing?
- If you want to skip the craziness of the newbie area, sure. Rats spawn in one room.
- The items that drop can be used to sell for gold (like the rat eye) or used in tradeskills (like the rat ear and rat meat).
- The factions given are nice if you are looking to especially build up for the Merchants of Qeynos
The only bad thing is the rewards are kinda poo.

You have to sit through like 10 to 20 sewer rat spawns to get the mangy one to pop. This can take as long as 1-2 hours, sometimes less if someone else was there ahead of you and got disgusted with the waiting. It takes far too long for the few paltry coins you usually get. You rarely get anything else. Your time as a newbie is better spent out in the yard in front of the gate killing stuff and selling the loot.
I most definitely agree. I tried it with several new PCs until I looted the necessary head off a Mangy Rat. I suggest totally ignoring this quest unless you trip over the Mangy rat while running by.

The mangy rat is still there; I've seen it many times. You just have to keep killing sewer rats until it spawns.

i have done this quest before and i think it's good for a lvl 3 or so paddy.But like all of you I haven't seen it lately.I know there was one once and it was a realy light brown color.Though it's been at least 3 months since I've seen it i know it exists. Epion lvl 3 shm mith marr

I've never seen a mangy rat either. Only a sewer rat, and they never drop a head. Only whiskers and ears and the normal rat stuff. When does the mangy rat come out?

You can receive a fishing pole from Sneed for this quest, which is great for a newbie, since rusty daggers sell for 2 silver and bait costs less than a muffin to buy (well, unless you're a magician like myself, in which case you'll never go hungry or thirsty, unlike those silly wizards).
Also btw, remember dark elves are meant to have difficulty 5 - make them feel it! Duel every one you see!

How often does the mangy rat spawn? I've only come across sewer rats.

The search indicates that this quest raises Circle of Unseen Hands, while in fact it lowers (as the quest text indicates)
