Note: Required faction appears to increase for the later stages of this quest.

This starts with Knargon Lanenda in the rogue guild. He responds to several different questions about people and places. If you ask him about Jracol:

Knargon Lanenda says, 'I don't why [Carson] likes that guy ... he's certainly been nothing but trouble for me.'

You say, 'Who is Carson?'

Knargon Lanenda says 'Carson McCabe? He runs that sham of a fortress called [Highpass Hold]. We've been dealing with him for a few years, now. But, lately he seems to be losing control of his business. [Hanns] will whip him into shape pretty soon though, I bet.'

(This is a bit of foreshadowing to the follow-up quest to this).

Ask him, "What is the shipment?"

Knargon Lanenda says 'We have a small shipment of goods coming in later tonight. The [courier] will be waiting outside the city gates. Casually tell the courier [Lovely night for a stroll], and give him this old card as proof that you work for us. Make certain that you are not followed, and return the shipment to me.'

Receive a Bent Playing Card.

You say, 'What courier?'

Knargon Lanenda says 'The courier that usually runs [McCabe]'s shipment, is that good for nothing J'Racol. I don't trust his kind.'

Back to the quest: Jracol Brestiage is the Dark Elf with "good guy" faction who hangs outside the north gate in the North Qeynos zone. If you hang a right coming out of the north gate and follow the wall, you should see him standing by the wall or by a tree close to the zone. He is not always there and may be a nighttime only spawn.

You say, 'Lovely night for a stroll'

Jracol Brestiage says 'Yes, it is a lovely night for a walk, especially with a good friend. Tell me, are you a [friend]?'

You say, 'I am a friend'

Jracol Brestiage says 'My memory is a bit fuzzy. If you are a friend, prove it to me.'

Hand him the Bent Playing Card.

Jracol Brestiage says 'Ah, good, it seems we have much in common after all. Take this back to the Circle, before the city guards come nosing around over here.'

Jracol gives back a Sealed Note For Knargon. It reads:

Due to rising suspicions locally, this week's shipment will be postponed. Apparently, one of my men has been leaking information to a small group of bandits working on the outskirts of Highpass. I will be in touch. Carson

Hand it to Knargon. Requires indifferent faction

Knargon Lanenda says 'Hmm. Carson better deal with his little 'problem' soon, it's costing us a lot of money. Hanns is gonna skin us all when he hears this. Go tell Hanns that [Carson has a mole in the Highpass] guards, and see what he wants us to do.'

You say, 'Carson has a mole in the Highpass guards'

Hanns Krieghor says 'Arrgg, that Carson can't control anything. Sometimes he's practically useless. Go tell Zannsin that [I want him to send some of his men to Prak in Highpass], to help Carson get back on track.'

Listening to the conversation between Hans and Zannsin reveals that the spy is working for the spy is working for the bandit leader in the Karanas named Rujahn Tahslek.

Say to Zannsin Resdinet, 'Hanns wants you to send some of your men to Prak in Highpass'

Zannsin Resdinet says 'Hmm, I see. Maybe you can help us out with this, huh? I think it'd be a perfect opportunity for you to prove just how valuable you are to our little organization. Take this letter to Prak at Golden Rooster in Highpass, and see what you can do to help him out.'

Upon handing the note in to Prak, he asks you to kill Guard Stald and return with his badge as proof of his death. He mentions that you will receive a "Cloak of the Unseen Hands".

Prak says 'Hmm, I see. We think we've found out who the mole is in Carson's guards, some guy named Stald. We need to get rid of this guy as quickly, and as quietly, as possible. Carson doesn't want to cause a stink by eliminating one of his own men, so he asked us to do it. What about you? Do you think [you could get rid of Stald] for us?'

Prak says, 'Ah, boy! Looks like I owe Kaden two plat... I thought you'd fumble it up for sure. Well, you've impressed me friend. Here, take this back to Zan... I'll make sure note your fine works to Carson, too, next time we speak.'

hey, you know there is a rouge quest in kelethin that all you have to do is get a coin from one of the rogue guild members and give it to Keylnn in Crushbone then return his information and you get a cloak thats 5ac and +2dex i think thats better than the one you get in this quest and also this one reqiures you to travel a long ways and kill a level 15 guy (thanks to Zunox for the pickpocketing tip though)

That's true, but the Scout Cape (the result of the quest in Kelethin) is only usable by Wood Elves and Half Elves.

Seeing the stats on the Cloak, I assumed it would be a decent early Monk item to get since the quest is really quite easy overall. The Black Leather Cloak is listed as ALL/ALL and a weight of 0.0. The actual cloak you receive is now limited to WAR,SHD,BRD,ROG and HUM,BAR,ERU,ELF,HIE,DEF,HEF,IKS.

I tried this quest with an apprehensive faction to the Circle of Unseen Hands.
None of the guild folk will talk to you (I'm surprised your still alive, after all you've done). But, you can still do the first part...

ie: Knargon will give you the bent card, if you ask him about the shipment, but he will NOT respond, once you return the note from Jracol. Nor will Hanns respond to keywords. So you can not do any of the rest of the quest.
(actually, didn't try talking to Zannsin, though I imagine his response would have been the same)

I imagine you need to have at least indifferent, perhaps better.

As well, Jracol will not respond to keywords if your faction is poor with Carson McCabe. Although you can still hand him the cards, which will quickly improve said faction so he does respond as mentioned in the quest description.

I wonder if Indifferent is good enough to do this quest. If so, any rogue in the world can raise her faction with the Circle simply by sneaking behind the quest NPCs!

This is the same Anonymous as above. I've done the first part of the quest (notes back and forth,) and it is indeed at he says it is. Knargon will give you the bent card even at "apprehensive" faction, and Jracol will take the card even at dubious (and it quickly goes up from there.) Knargon will not take the returning note at "apprehensive" faction. However, this is fairly easily surmounted by using hide/sneak until he cons "indifferent" to you, and then handing him the notes. Giving him a dozen or so notes (I wasn't keeping careful track, it could be as much as twenty,) will get you to indifferent yourself, and from there you don't need to use hide and sneak any longer. I did this run a few times, and made it from "apprehensive" to "amiable" in under an hour.

Very very handy for a foriegn rogue looking to set up shop in Qeynos.

I'm apprehensive to these gentlemen (after slaughtering massive number of raiders too, no less. A hard lot to please.) Interestingly enough, they wouldn' t train me, but they would train me after I hid and snuck. I imagine I'll find out shortly if the quest still works with "indifferent" faction.

I discovered that for at least portions of this quest you need to be amiable or better. I was primarily interested in the section of it I will quote here:

>> Knargon tells you to "Go tell Hanns that [Carson has a mole in the Highpass] guards, and see what he wants us to do." Say to Hans, 'carson has a mole in the highpass guards' and he says 'Arrgg, that Carson can't control anything. Sometimes he's practically useless. Go tell Zannsin that [I want him to send some of his men to Prak in Highpass], to help Carson get back on track. Your faction standing with CircleOfUnseenHands gets better. Yes just for saying the phrase. You can say this over and over to get very high faction. <<

Until I got my faction up into the amiable range he would respond to the effect that I still needed to prove myself to them.

Raising the faction with these guys to amiable was easy, actually. I simply gave Trumpy Irontoe in South Qeynos backpacks full of honey meads. See the quest on the page below:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=540

Once you hit amiable with Trumpy, sell any remaining honey meads back to the bar tender there in the Fish Ale Tavern and head up to the rogue's guild under Crow's in North Qeynos.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING TIP NO LONGER WORKS. IT WAS ELIMINATED IN A RECENT PATCH.

============================================

Set up a social with 5 identical lines in it. They should all look just like this:

/pause 15, /say Carson has a mole in the Highpass guards

Now copy that social to a hot key and hail Hanns. After he responds to your hail, just start using that hotkey. Let it finish before you hit it again. Do this for about 10 minutes and you can raise your faction from the bottom end of amiable all the way up to the point where you get the new faction adjustment message that says "Your faction standing with CircleOfUnseenHands could not possibly get any better."

=============================================

Sorry about that, guys. From now on you will need to use a different method to raise your faction with the Circle of Unseen Hands above the amiable range.

It was nice while it lasted.
