ok is this quest broken or what, ive givin him the skin and the headband but he keep givin back the pelts. anyone know what is goin on with this guy

He says he doesn't need the pelts in case someone else has already given them to him. In that case just give him the Skin and your Headband. It also works to give one item at a time, and see if you need to give another. I'd start with giving the yellow headband since it probably takes a longer time to get the Skin.
Yes, they MUST BE "Blackburrow gnoll pelts", not high quality gnoll skins, flawless gnoll pelts, or any other item. I initially had the same problem, because the wording "Non ruined" would mean ANY gnoll pelt from blackburrow.
Luckily, I was able to log my trader, and buy two "Blackburrow gnoll pelt"s fro mthe bazaar, after trying everything from patches of gnoll fur, to skins, pelts, etc.
Oh, also, they must be UNSTACKED, one per slot in the NPC window, when you do the turn in.

I just had the same problem, I gave the Yellow Headband, 2 X BB Gnoll Pelts and 1 BB Gnoll skin. Phin kept the skin and gave back the other three items. This is 7 months after last post, so I suspect it is not a bug. But you never know with EQ. Oh also I con amiable. Any ideas from you Grand Master monks out there?

I gave 2 blackburrow gnoll pelts and 1 skin and my yellow headband...he took the skin and my head bandand, and gave 1 blackburrow gnoll pelt back, and said he did not need it...can anyone tell me what happend. i know i will probably have to start over again....but i dont want to if something is wrong with the quest....thanks for the help....

that has just happened to me 1 skin 1 yellow headband and he took those and gave back the 2 pelts ... petitioned a GM and waiting for reply ... so far 20Mins or so i have waited
Guess I got lucky. As level 12 Monk, I went to entrance of Blackburrow and shouted for a skin needed for monk quest. In 2 minutes someone gave me one, it was that easy - Billyjo on Cazic Thule Server.

Ok all the SKIN drops off of shawman, elite and commander. The Pelt drops off the same mob's HEHE the skin is a rare drop the pelt is somewhat common if you get 20 PELTS you will get ONE SKIN!!! It takes about 8 hours so expect a long day.
WARNING: do not give him the other SKINS (flawless, perfect ect...) and do not give him ruined pelts the trainer will take your headband some times.
Warning: If u drop and pray do not do it aroud the sewer rats they take your stuff.

I have camped BB for 3 nights not seeing a damned BB Gnoll Skin...i have however seen over 100 of the pelts needed in those 3 nights

The gnoll skins are pretty easy to get, but where do i get the pelts. I've killed every gnoll on the upper level with my monk and got nothing. So I am curious what type of gnoll drops the pelts?
Both non-ruined Pelts as well as the Skin I got were dropped by Elites on the Elite Ledge.
Supposedly they both also drop from the Commander, but I've killed him several times and have yet to see either on him.

Just my 2cp here.... I went to bb to kill for faction with my Iksar monk and Out of my first 2 Commanders I killed I got 2 skins ;) I also Killed the SK gnoll for the Gnoll Slayer Quest and decided to grab my Ranger and come back to kill the SK so he could quest it :) I came in with my Ranger and killed the first Commander I saw in the Elite room and got another Skin :) hehe I just had to tell you all so you know that yes they do drop and I have not found it to be very rare like the rest of you have ;)

I looted the Gnoll Skin (not once but twice) of some elites last night on the ledge after camping it for an hour and a half with a group of 4 Barbarians: Rogue, BL, Shaman, and Warrior - lvl 10/11s. However, this was the 4th night of camping for it so it took awhile. The lowest price I could get on it was 50pp which I was about to pay prior to getting the skins. Keep hunting, they are there...

Probably a chanter having a little fun. If Phil took out the PoD, he is one uber NPC. At Kelethin the PoD usually wastes one of the lift guards before the others kill him - and Kelethin lift guards are very, very tough.

I just made level 9 monk, and know I probably have no business being in BB, but can someone tell the average level to solo in there and the average level to group in BB.
Level 9 is a fine level for Blackburrow - my Qeynos monk spent almost her entire life there from levels 5 through 11 or so. At 9 you probably need to stay on the top level, where everything should be blue or green to you (except the trains from below, of course) - by the time you're 11 you should be able to hunt on the lower levels without too much problem.

Got a skin last night off of an elite on the elite ledge. I’ve been seriously hunting for it only a few times. The first few times I was with a group of four around my level (12), the second time with a level 46 char, and the third time with a level 10 char. I didn’t find the skin any of those times and looked for hours each time. With the 46 char we (OK, she) killed the splitpaw commander and the regular commander 5 or 6 times. Nothing.
Anyway last night after I gave up and my companion the level 10 char also gave up and left I decided to try to kill elites by myself for the first time. I killed the very first one after my friend left and a skin came up. I dunno how these quests work but maybe it had something to do with teaming or being with a high level char. That doesn’t seem to make sense but what do I know?
All I can say is that as of last night (2/18/02) the quest was still working and the skin dropped off of an elite on the elite ledge.

I have spent the last 2 days hunting for the Gnoll skin. I have read that Elites, shamans, and commanders all three drop the skin. I have killed an innumerable amount of elites and commanders.... NOTHING!!! And, I am sad to say, I haven't seen one single Shaman in BB. I have seen one Splitpaw Commander....... though I never got to see what he dropped....TRAIN!!! Anyway, if anyone has an idea where the Shaman spawn please let me know. I am bored just sitting in BB waiting.....it kills the gameplay.

The two times I've seen a Shaman in what appeared to be his spawn point (as opposed to part of a train), it was by the bridge on the second level of BB.
On this map: http://www.eqatlas.com/blackburrow2map.html I'm talking about the bridge near the lower-left corner (actually the only one shown on the map) and the shaman spawned on the end that's below the bridge and to the right of it, as the bridge is depicted on the map. I don't know if they spawn anyplace else.
Once I saw a "High Shaman" pulled to the top floor as part of a Canadian Pacific fast freight; I don't know where he came from, as that's the only time I've seen one.

In Northern Qeynos go to Monk guild and give the pelts to trainer Phin Esrinap. He tends to wander around Northern Qeynos quite a bit. I have seen him in the Inn directly in front of the Monk guild and once even chasing some mob in the newbie area.

I have searched for where to take them when you get them and no one has had info and no one has posted an answer.

If you play the game and not just read how to do quests you would know to take them to the person who gives you the quest I.E. a monk at the monk guild in N. Qeynos. If you dont explore, talk to npc's etc the game is going to be kind of boring

I have seen all of the posts here and NO ONE says where to take them after you get them. It is really annoying to get them and then not know where to take them.

The commanders also drop the Skin. Got one today much to my surprise off one.
