Chamberlain Thoridain may be found at +590, +126, +22 in Brell's Temple. You must have a minimum blacksmithing skill of 300 to obtain this task, and only after you've completed the task "Honoring the Elements." You must also have completed Tier 9 Underfoot progression and Convorteum progression, including the Keystone from Brell's Temple progression (see the task "Fire in the Hole").

You say, 'Hail, Chamberlain Thoridain'

Chamberlain Thoridain says 'Your honoring of the elements was a success! Brell seemed to be watching you as you worked. However, I have only one trial left. I hope it will be enough. Will you [undertake] the seventh trial?'

You say, 'I'll undertake the trial'

Chamberlain Thoridain says 'Excellent! You will create some of the finest and hardest silver you have ever seen. This silver is blessed from the fires of the heart of the underfoot itself. You will make a filigree to use in the shawls, making them themselves an item of devotion to Brell.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Temper of Silver'.

You receive a Brell Filigree Pattern.

Don't try to clear mobs beforehand, mobs here respawn fairly quickly.

  1. Collect 2 Raw Underfoot Silver(s) 0/2 (ALL)

This drops commonly off "a cliknar mine worker" in the Underquarry and is pre-lootable.

  2. Collect 1 Raw Underfoot Copper(s) 0/1 (ALL)

This drops commonly off burynai plotters and tunnelblades in the Underquarry and is pre-lootable.

  3. Create 2 Refined Underfoot Silver using tradeskills 0/2 (ALL)

In Forge or New Tanaan Forge combine: - (Recipe)

    1x Pot
    1x Soda
    1x Jar of Acid
    1x Raw Underfoot Silver

    Trivial: 300

(The pot is consumed in the combine.)

  4. Create 1 Refined Underfoot Copper using tradeskills 0/1 (ALL)

In Forge or New Tanaan Forge combine: - (Recipe)

    1x Pot
    1x Fine Sand
    1x Raw Underfoot Copper
    1x Water Flask
1x Mana Battery - Class Five

    Trivial: 300

(The pot is consumed in the combine.)

  5. Create 1 Brell Silver using tradeskills 0/1 (ALL)

In Forge or New Tanaan Forge combine: - (Recipe)

    2x Refined Underfoot Silver
    1x Refined Underfoot Copper
    1x Enchanted Palladium Bar

    Trivial: 400

  6. Deliver 1 Brell Silver to a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX 0/1 (The Convorteum)

Warning! This step will activate the Shawl Walk, so be prepared.

Find "a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX" at location 125, -391, -39 (dead-end from the zone-in).

Make 2 hot Keys: /say Stop and /say Continue.

You must NOT be invis to use these commands.

Give the Brell Silver to a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX.

a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX says 'This unit will test this metal in the required heat sources. This unit requires that you protect this unit. This unit will follow limited [instructions] while it is testing your metal. This unit will assist in protecting this unit. If this unit is destroyed during testing, the metal given to this unit will also be destroyed. If you need, this unit will reset your task status. Simply say [reset] to this unit. When you are ready to continue, tell this unit to [start].'

    You say, 'Instructions'

a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX says 'This unit will walk towards the locations it needs to reach in order to test this metal. If you need this unit to stop, say [stop] to this unit. When you are ready to continue, say [continue] to this unit. If this unit is walking slowly, say [continue] to this unit. This unit will only follow instructions from the entity or entities that gave this unit the metal. This unit repeats that if you need to reset your task status, simply say [reset] to this unit.

/Say Start to a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX to start the escort. The clockwork aggros everything past the pilgrims and Quest NPC at the base of the ramp. You'll want to stop the clockwork and pull upcoming mobs to your group.

Three of the stops at the lava will trigger a pair of "a ravenous greken" to spawn on the clockwork.

Map locations for your Convorteum map file:

    P -734.1125, 469.1959, -78.3844, 79, 0, 123, 3, FIVE
    P -706.8182, 672.1292, -77.0685, 46, 0, 103, 3, FOUR
    P -663.3325, 978.6948, -78.3844, 66, 0, 119, 3, THREE
    P -596.0576, 1191.2109, -78.3844, 76, 0, 93, 3, TWO
    P -670.4902, 861.1194, -78.3844, 73, 0, 136, 3, ONE

  7. Escort a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX to it's first testing point 0/1 (The Convorteum)

  8. Escort a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX to it's second testing point 0/1 (The Convorteum)

  9. Escort a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX to it's third testing point 0/1 (The Convorteum)

2x "a ravenous greken" (mezzable, stunable) spawn here.

  10. Escort a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX to it's fourth testing point 0/1 (The Convorteum)

2x "a ravenous greken" (mezzable, stunable) spawn here.

  11. Escort a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX to it's fifth testing point 0/1 (The Convorteum)

2x "a ravenous greken" (mezzable, stunable) spawn here.

  12. Escort a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX back to it's starting point 0/1 (The Convorteum)

You receive "Heart of the Underfoot Silver".

  13. Create 1 Brell's Heart Silver Filigree using tradeskills 0/1 (Brell's Temple)

In Forge in Brell's Temple combine: - (Recipe)

1x Heart of the Underfoot Silver
    1x Brell Filigree Pattern

    Trivial: 400

  14. Deliver 1 Brell's Heart Silver Filigree to Chamberlain Thoridain 0/1 (Brell's Temple)

  15. Wear your Sacred Sanctified Underfoot Prayer Shawl and speak with Chamberlain Thoridain 0/1 (Brell's Temple)

  16. Deliver your Sacred Sanctified Underfoot Prayer Shawl to Chamberlain Thoridain 0/1 (Brell's Temple)

    Reward:
    Blessed Serilis Prayer Shawl

There are four ALL/ALL versions of this shawl with varying stats. If you don't currently have a shawl task, you can switch them out by speaking with Thoridain:

    You say, 'Hail, Chamberlain Thoridain'

Chamberlain Thoridain says 'How wonderful. Brell himself spoke to you. Though he has not stopped in his task, it brings me great hope that he will soon stop what he is doing and go back to his normal self. You have done more than I could ever hope for, and I thank you. If you have a very large group of friends, there is one more thing that may bring even more of Brell's attention. I will not think less of you if you cannot complete this task. If you are [interested] bring me the head of the creature that has caused Brell to become distracted. Also, If you are interested, you may [exchange your shawl] for a similar version of equal power.'

You say, 'I want to exchange my shawl'

Chamberlain Thoridain says 'So you're not satisfied with the shawl you were given? I suppose I could exchange it for a different type of equal power if you desire. I will do this once at no cost to you. If you wish to exchange them again though, you will have to make a donation of coin to the Temple.'

A window pops up and allows you to pick a different reward.

Completion of this task also allows you to request the final task in the series.

This guy is a bit buggy.

If at any point he stops and says you are not ready instead of saying 'start' say 'continue'

Trying to do the shawl run, the first two times I tried to cast SoW on the clockwork and it seemed to break between the 4th and 5th test point each time. Clockwork just stood in one place, would respond to commands (stop/continue/start) with text but wouldn't budge from that spot. Tried pulling mobs to get him to start moving again, tried camping, nothing seemed to work. (Did not wait until SoW wore off, maybe that would have done it, if that was the problem?) Ended up pulling mobs to him, let him die, and he respawned just a few minutes later at start point.

Ran a successful run the third time WITHOUT casting SoW; made it through all steps fine (albeit slower).

I don't know if you have to do this, but "/say Reset" works BEFORE you give him the stone, after a failure and he is sitting in his spawn point, to reset task back to the "Deliver 1 Brell Silver to clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX". Did not test if you can successfully finish task by just giving him the stone and continuing where you left off (which was after 4th test point and before 5th for me). Otherwise, "/say reset" seemed to have no effect during the script.

Not positive that SoW breaks the script, but 2 times in a row that was a common factor and script broke in the same spot both times.

I posted under Brells silver. The information isn't easily found.on how you get enchanted palladium. First you should do the quest in the abysmal sea for a Reinforced Jeweler's Kit. It is the only kit to make Prismatic Palladium. easy combine of gnomish heat source and a scale ore. Then you can get your favorite chanter to cast enchant palladium on the prismatic palladium. The spell to enchant palladium. The spell itself is sold by Palil Agrom in the commonlands. It will scribe in the special tab folder in the AA window. Hope this helps

Grabbed 4 Raw Underfoot Silver and 2 Raw Underfoot Copper. I was able to make the Refined Underfoot Silver/Copper combines but when it came time to make the combine for Brell Silver i failed that twice. Once i failed the second time i was left with 1 Refined Underfoot Copper and needed to once again get some Raw Underfoot Silver. This is with 300 in all tradeskills and max Salvage so i haven't even gotten to the hard part of the task yet. EDIT: I did a bunch of clearing before messing around with the escort. I took too long apparently because some of the mobs re-spawned and auto follow failed at the worst time. I ended up getting killed because my alts were all far away and i couldn't deal with 6 mobs at once without heals. The robot died shortly afterwards.I was originally up to the third step. The escort part naturally reset when i handed him the Brell Silver to start the escorting all over again. The next time time i made sure to wait to clear anything till after i started the escort and it went much smoother this time. I ended up jumping into the lava 2 times to kill off the 2 mobs.

Finally finished this last weekend after much, much frustration and three attempts over several hours.
I definitely experienced all of what everybody has mentioned here and I thought I would offer some more tips!

0.) Bring extra Brell's Silver just in case you fail.
This should be fairly obvious, since they are not lore, and the reagents are fairly common drops from The Underquarry.

1.) It is almost always easier to tell the robot to "stop" if you aren't sure what he is gonna do or where he is gonna go next.
The above map locations were absolutely correct, so worst case you can pull a mob close to the next escort point and the robot should run over and assist you.
He will then stay there until you tell him to "Continue" the short distance to the update point.

2.) The robot will respect the roles of the other group members, and has a large (but not infinite) assist radius
Set yourself as Main Assist. You'll thank me later.
If the robot runs into the lava and refuses to leave it, simply attack something on land and he will run out to assist the MA.

3.) He will, between points 3 and 4, walk straight into the lava and (even though you can't see him) continue to the escort point, where grekens and uncleared adds will attack him.
You MUST do one of the two following:
-"Stop" the robot between 3 and 4 and lead it around the cracks in the floor by killing the mobs in that direction, clearing the large group away from point 4 one at a time.
-Quickly rush and attack the 2 autarchian mobs across the small crack. The robot will then swim across the crack and be on the other side, assisting you with killing.

4.) When out-of-combat, your healing merc can heal the robot with (at least) HoT and Promised heal.
This is important to remember if you or the robot need a med break, simply tell it to "stop".

5.) If the robot suddenly stops moving and is no longer responding to stop/continue commands, try using "start" on him.
For whatever reason, this worked once after he sat thru 30% of his power and refused to move, simply emoting about being full speed and losing power.
Telling him to "start" caused him to continue his path to the first spot, where the quest continued as normal.
________________________

I did not run into the time limit that others mentioned, but I did occasionally and with no consistency receive the emotes about his percentage of power level, but I only noticed them while he was stopped.
It is possible that the power level only drains / emotes when the robot is stopped, but I was not able to verify this one way or another.

And the stupid robot just stops, reset does not work, stop and continue get text, but nothing actually happens. Quite annoying to say the least. I am on the fourth step with him, but he just stands there doing nothing.

I have failed this twice now. When he is attacked near lava he goes in it. We can kill the initial mob, but then he warps to an unknown location and attacks a mob and dies. He is out of range to heal. We ran all over the place trying to get in range to heal and could not heal him, nor could we see the mob he had targeted. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure only ONE person gives their Brell Silver to the robot. He will eat and destroy any additional ones that are given to him, rather than giving them back--and those people won't get updates for their task. They will have to go back and create a new Brell Silver again. This isn't explicitly stated in the quest, so beware.

This Robot is so damn bugged. He constantly refuses to move, my cleric merc gets agro on him (How the hell does that even happen), hes sits on his *** and says hes moving full speed, wont reset. This is exactly why soe shouldnt do anything remotely complicated because they can never get anything right

Okay, as was stated lower down, the clicknar mine workers are in the bigger clicknar rooms mixed among a ton of mobs. At level 100 (shaman) I needed help, but me and a mage wiped the rooms out. I didn't see them the first time I went there and actually had to come back tho.

The magma meter walks along the edge of the lava, back and forth, on the east side only. There are a lot of mobs you need to clear. He will pull aggro from a pet, not sure about a tank merc. He is buffable, and we hasted, fatigued, and sowed him, so he ran super fast, but if you think you will clear slower, don't sow. At one point he said "this unit is at 32%." so I am not entirely sure but it sounds like it will lose power after a time. Might just be part of the script tho.

Can't imagine doing this at 85...

Clockwork lost power and poofed on me. I paused for a long time between waypoint 2 and 3, because I had to do something real world. Probably 20 minutes. So unsure if this whole thing is timed, or you only have a certain amount of time between waypoints.

Obviously much easier at level 90

Did it today with 3 boxes (+ mercs) and no chanter - 90 druid max AA, 90 cleric 4500ish AA, 90 warrior 2900ish AA - all in tier 4 HoT gear except the druid (two pieces of HoT tier 3 raid), plus 3 mercs, 1 tank, 1 healer, and 1 rogue.

Used the warrior to pull and offtank if things got dicey. Also tanked multiples when merc died or went insane a couple of times, as tank mercs sometimes do. Just went deliberately and let robot move up a bit at a time until it was clear which were next mobs that would aggro, then pulled them to group and let merc tank lock them, then burned them down. As stated by Reg and Met, the robot is excellent DPS, really did most of the work.

Took 75 minutes from hand-in to finish, could have been faster if I had known exactly what robot's path was going to be.

New commands:

a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX says 'This unit will test this metal in the required heat sources. When you are ready to continue, tell this unit to [start].

Soandso says, 'instructions'

a clockwork magma meter MCMXCIX says 'This unit will walk towards the locations it needs to reach in order to test this metal.

Just did the walk 6 times. Failed the first 2 times due to mobs warping on us out of no where. The clockwork paths in such a way as to avoid falling in the lava but stays very close to it. This means he will aggro a lot of mobs that are just barely in range.

Our group make up was the two of us two boxing (Regnad-Enc and Tsohg-SK on one, Metanis-Cle and Pucnit-Mag on the other) and 2 healer mercs. Enchanter would mez a group at range and then the SK would drag them to the clockwork. Clockwork is very good dps. Kept Divine Intervention and all hp and mitigation buffs on the SK since the mobs still can do some serious harm.

The clockwork can be "led" by dragging mobs and parking them in the direction you want him to travel. He will run over to help kill the mob and you just "stop" him there. At one point we had a named spawn along the path. By using this method we were able to drag the clockwork in a semi-circle around the named so we didn't aggro it.

The patrol didn't seem to affect us the last 4 runs but I wonder if they caused our first 2 fails. Our worst times came when the random grekens would spawn. Many times they will not come out of the lava so you can cast on them. With both mercs and the cleric healing the clockwork he can just barely solo the 2 grekens. It was a close thing though and we liked it much better when they came out of the lava to be mezzed and slowed. The mercs will heal and buff the clockwork so he had Reliance II on him. Plus the Enc hasted him.

By the last run it was taking us 1.5 hours. Basically just settle in for a hard slog and pull everything around and it goes slowly but surely. Periodically the clockwork will tell you what percentage of charge he is at. I assume this is like battery charge and if you aren't done with the walk when he hits 0% then you lose. During our first successful run he got down close to 20% charge.

By doing the runs this past week after the release of House of Thule we had Convo to ourselves. There was nobody around to interfere with our walk. I think that made things much easier. We also got about 5 named during this time because after the mandatory clearing we often would get a named spawn.

You could probably do this without an enchanter but then you also can have teeth pulled without Novocaine.

If you do not have an active quest (8th shawl) and hail Chamberlain you get:

[Mon Aug 16 19:16:39 2010] You say, 'exchange your shawl'
[Mon Aug 16 19:16:40 2010] Chamberlain Thoridain says 'So you're not satisfied with the shawl you were given? I suppose I could exchange it for a different type of equal power if you desire. I will do this once at no cost to you. If you wish to exchange them again though, you will have to make a donation of coin to the Temple.'

This opens a quest window where you can select any of the 4 shawls.

From zoneline, you go east...Southwest tunnel...East tunnel to the cliknars. At the first cave, go around to the tunnel in the right. Next cave go straight through south. You'll end up in the west of two big mines. Just kill everything. They are random spawns.

they aren't random spawns, there are 2 static miner spawns in there, clear the middle half, move your group to the back, set up camp, pull the miners in middle back, and left sides, they usually drop the silver (common) - also there's "a master scout" and "a master soldier" can spawn here as named that drops armor and some items.

# Aug 02 2010 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
Did the walk through in Convorteum last night and decided to try using Spirit of the Shrew on the clockwork. The added runspeed made a difference by cutting down on the start and end parts of the walk and we actually avoided having to fight a group of mobs at one point because he zipped by them fast enough that mez/memblur did the trick since i didn't get aggro. It does take him a couple of extra steps to come to a stop however, so keep that in mind.

It seems the greken spawns might be random. I had spawns at stop 1 and 2 and no spawns on stop 3. Wiped before stop 4 but I assume stop 4 or 5 would have spawned the last set of grekens.

EDIT: Yup, random spawn spots for the greken on each attempt

if you fail the escort, just make a new turn in item, and say reset to the clockwork.

The quest will then move back to turning in the item, and you will be able to try the escort again.

Looks like the 1st few steps are prelootable (like the JC quest). Had the Raw Underfoot Copper in my inventory when I got the quest and it auto updated the step.

Yes they are prelootable but the quest will only auto-update them only if you have them ON YOU. If you do forget them just put the items in an NPC's trade window then cancel the trade. This will update the collect tasks.
