Anniversary events tend to run from mid-March to mid-April (sometimes to mid-May) each year. They are not available during the "off season".
For an overview and list of EverQuest Anniversary events, see this quest entry.
This is a group task that made its debut with EverQuest's 11th anniversary. It is expected to only remain available during the anniversary/fabled period.
The task is given by a gnome named Miggles Mistflinger in the Plane of Knowledge. He's found at 35, -250, -157 (between the Plane of Tranquility and Qeynos portal stones).
You say, 'Hail, Miggles Mistflinger'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'Yes, you will do. You will do [nicely].'
You say, 'Nicely...?'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'Excuse me for my rudeness. I am Miggles. I have a big problem and you look like you could [handle] it for me.'
You say, 'What's there to handle?'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'It is a long story, but I will try to keep it short. You see, I was recently an apprentice to one named Karl. Unfortunately, I was rejected by my master, Karl, just a few short weeks into my apprenticeship. He ordered me to master the power of the [great seas], the strength of water.'
You say, 'Great seas?'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'Well, the problem is, I am just not that kind of wizard. I would much rather prefer to look for patterns in the clouds, take a long walk on the beach, or listen to the gentle pitter-patter of the rain. So Karl [replaced] me with someone named Kert.'
You say, 'What do you mean he 'replaced you'?'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'I will get to the point. I want revenge. Well, revenge might be too strong of a word. What I really want is my old [name] back and lose the fear that Karl might call in my contract.'
You say, 'Your old name?'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'You see, each of Karl's apprentices are required to sign a [contract] stipulating that Karl gets to choose our new surname. Oh, and it also allows him to demand our labors for five years total, divided in any way he chooses. I don't like either part of this contract and would like to change my surname back to Merrypants.'
You say, 'A contract?'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'Yes, I know I made a mistake signing that contract, but it is done. Please help me by confronting Karl and convincing him to let me out of my contract. I don't have much, but I will reward you as well as I can for your [assistance].'
You say, 'My assistance?'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'Karl lairs deep beneath Freeport in the sewer system. It likely won't be easy reaching him. He is a master tinker and has a small army of clockworks to protect him. I do, however, have a [friend] on the inside and he would be willing to help you get to Karl.'
You say, 'A friend?'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'Yes, his name is Gilamin. I believe he wishes to study Karl's clockworks. So if you can help him with that, he will provide you with the necessary knowledge to reach Karl. Will you [help] me?'
You say, 'I will help you'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'You will? Oh, thank you. Please enter the Freeport Sewers and see if you can get Karl to cancel my contract. Remember to meet with Gilamin first though. Are you ready to [go]?'
You have been assigned the task 'Stealing My Life Back'.
You say, 'Ready to go!'
Miggles Mistflinger says 'Ok, good luck and be careful!'
You enter an instanced version of the Freeport Sewers.
