It was in a patch of flames though.

This shared task (1-6 players) begins with Giltredle in Fungal Forest, approximate location 1430, -645, 250 (northeast part of the zone).
You say, 'Hail, Giltredle' Giltredle says 'Hello there. I, um, I don't really have any time to talk. I'm busy looking for someone familiar with solving problems. Maybe a gnome or one of those clever Mephits. Maybe a spider could help me. They know what [fire] looks like.' You say, 'Fire?' Giltredle says 'Yes, fire. Someone is trundling around in the forest lighting things on fire. It's very bothersome and dangerous. It's also odd. This is a very moist forest. Things just don't burn here. But I've seen a trail of flames running across a section of the forest. I've heard stories of massive mushrooms burning, corpses of creatures that are on fire. Someone has to put a [stop] to this.' You say, 'Stop it?' Giltredle says 'Stop it. It has to stop. Even if that means killing someone, it has to stop. Grass is dying, mushrooms are dying; all sorts of creatures are dying. I need to find someone willing to [help] stop this.' You say, 'I'll help' Giltredle says 'You will? You can see fire, right? You're not blind to it? Well, then I'll trust you to solve this for me. Good luck!' You have been assigned the task 'Trail of Flame'. Giltredle has asked you to seek out the cause of the trail of flames that he saw recently. He wants you to do whatever it takes to stop the flames. You'll have to move fast before the flame trail fades. The flame trail that Giltredle saw was in the northeastern part of the forest. He was afraid to follow the trail and so he has asked you to do so. The next step is "Kill 1 wandering greken"

Couldn't get all of them because they happened quickly once I saw the Fire Trail and was following it.

Just find the patches of fire due south of the quest giver. Got the last 4 updates all at once near the red ring where the Gigyn mobs are. The Greken spawns there also. You can do the mission invised until the kill part. Took less 10 minutes to complete.

looking for any locs for the updates on the Trail of Flame...have found only 3 and have run up and down this zone for hours...

/nod Same here, I found the first three and have tried following the line set by the 2nd-3rd, tried south from the third, tried following the river, tried running all over, cannot find more flames.
I finally found the next spot at -152, -725. It's hard to spot because it's nestled down among some hills. Also, each fire only shows up when you get the update at the previous spot, so there's only ever one new fire to find. I actually managed to bug the quest by skipping locations and going to the spots where I'd marked later fires; when I finally did them all in order, the greken never appeared. I had to drop the mission and wait for the zone to reset.
Anyway, the trick is that it's not just following a trail south. After the first few updates it curves southwest and eventually northwest to the greken spot.

Basically, the fire trail starts just to the left of the NPC and follows south. The last update is hard to get because of all the mobs around it. After you get the last update, you will find "a wandering greken" at -15, -195.

Doing this task is worth 2.7% regular xp at lvl 83, or 1 aa at lvl 85. "Dangerous Creature" is called "a wandering greken" hits about 8k max (casts a 6-7k nuke fairly often), fire resistant, and has more hp than normal trash. Lockout on this task is 6 hours.
