There is no longer a risk of having the potion eaten. The quest mob will return the potion and say: XXX captor's still live. Defeat them before you administer the antidote.

The Trouble With Lichen

This shared task (1-6 players) begins with in Lichen Creep, approximate location -1355, 1110, -740 (accessed only via portal - location of portal needed).
You say, 'Hail, Splari' Splari says 'Fleshling. You must [listen] to me. Please!' You say, 'I'm listening' Splari says 'I came from Corathus to find some lost members of my tribe, and I wound up in here somehow. The mephits are [capturing] my brethren and making them mine for floating ore. Please help me to stop this.' You say, 'How are they capturing them?' Splari says 'The mephits are laying traps for sporali that venture into these caverns. They have placed piles of tainted lichen in several locations. Once a sporali eats the tainted lichen, they become mindless slaves for the mephits. Will you [help] me?' You say, 'I will help' Splari says 'I need to examine some of this tainted lichen. Bring back seven samples of the lichen. The lichen can be found on the ground throughout Lichen Creep. I will wait here for you.' You have been assigned the task 'The Trouble with Lichen'. Deliver 7 Tainted Lichen Samples to Splari 0/7 (Lichen Creep) These are groundspawns around the zone. Deliver 7 Regurgitated Lichen to Splari 0/7 (Lichen Creep) These are known to drop from cliknar scouts and gatherers. They may also be groundspawns. Speak with Splari 0/1 (Lichen Creep) You receive a Full Purified Lichen Potion. Deliver the potion to Shrum 0/1 (Lichen Creep) Deliver the potion to Balbor 0/1 (Lichen Creep) Deliver the potion to Zuzz 0/1 (Lichen Creep) Deliver the potion to Splak 0/1 (Lichen Creep) You'll need to clear the area surrounding each sporali of mobs before you'll be able to do potion turn-ins. The reason you are required to clear the "guard" mobs near each turn-in mushroom man is because otherwise the mushroom would eat the turn-in potion and you'll have to restart the quest from scratch. (Locations of sporali mobs needed.) Deliver the leftover potion to Splari 0/1 (Lichen Creep) Rewards: 262 platinum, 5 gold Experience | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Balbor, the 2nd turn in npc definitely still eats the potion if a mephit is near him. just happened to me .
The reason you are required to clear the "guard" mobs near each turn-in mushroom man is because otherwise the mushroom would eat the turn-in potion and you'll have to restart the quest from scratch.

Use Portal 4 to get to Splari.
There was nothing in the room with Splari when I zipped in to get the quest.
You can pre-loot all of the items needed to give Splari, which is advisable, since you have to kill the cliknar for the mercenary of Lichen Creep anyway.

Balbor : neg 360 pos 1267 pos 44 (northern part of second level of Lichen Creep, on top of wooden structure)
Zuzz : neg 1428 pos 733 neg 20 (second level of Lichen Creep, center of zone, near circular lava pool)
Splak : neg 49 pos 195 neg 87 (northern part of zone, lower level of Lichen Creep).
And this task gives Brellium Tokens when completed (50 for myself tonight).

The loc for Balbar is neg 360,pos 1145 on top of the scaffold.
There are no workers with him just reg mephites but that can change.
