This solo task begins with Clontik Beardburner who is located in the zone-in area of the Underquarry (location -15, 150, -193).

There are pre-requisites for requesting this task: "Chaos in the Stonequarry" + "Unrest in the Metal Mines", followed by "An Alternative Explanation".

You say, 'Hail, Clontik Beardburner'

Clontik Beardburner says 'Eh? Who are you? You don't belong here! Well, seeing as how there are so few of us left still devoted to carrying out the will of Brell Serilis, it would only harm our cause to waste effort having you [moved] from this place.'

You say, 'Moved?'

Clontik Beardburner says 'This is the Underquarry; we mine and quarry material here, endlessly. Stone, precious metals, marble, you name it. At the moment, however, things are in a disastrous state. My stone-mining crews are being insubordinate, the Burynai are claiming the copper mine for themselves, there are Cliknar invading the silver mine, and everyone I've sent to the gold mines has yet to return. I [fear] the entire Underquarry may spin completely out of control soon, and if our production isn't corrected, there will be terrible ramifications for the entire Underfoot and all the worlds that connect to it.'

You say, 'Fear?'

Clontik Beardburner says 'So much depends on me, but ever since the influence of this Church of Self began to be a problem, more and more of my Underquarry crew have failed to follow my orders! Being assigned to the Underquarry is the highest of honors a Dwarf or even a Gnome could ever hope to achieve! Why would one risk losing the favor of Brell by abandoning one's sacred duties? Yet that is precisely what has happened. I, and these few who remain here, are all that are left who remain dedicated in service to Brell. Yet it is strange, Brell no longer appears, or has not been seen or heard from in a very long time. I may need your [help] if we are to restore the Underquarry to its proper functioning.'

You say, 'My help?'

Clontik Beardburner says 'Much to do, much to do. Your help would genuinely be appreciated. I will need help with restoring order in the [Stonequarry] as well as in the [Metal Mines]. When you have completed these tasks I have [other work] I need completed.'

You say, 'What other work?'

Clontik Beardburner says 'There are some follow-up tasks to be performed now that I've been getting feedback from the rest of the Underquarry. My plan for restoring order has [failed]. The Underquarry is overproducing quantities of stone and metal that just aren't needed, and we will have to find a [solution] somehow.'

You say, 'A solution?'

Clontik Beardburner says 'I must abandon my plan to impose my will upon the denizens of the Underquarry, though it is within my rights to do so. I will instead ask you to negotiate with the two senior foremen. Kronidar Stoutaxe supervises the metal mines, and Drenkar Darkhammer is in charge of the stone quarry. Both are very proud and tireless Dwarves, who don't believe a word of what my previous messengers have been telling them. Someone with the initiative to think creatively will need to go to them and work out an [agreement].'

You say, 'I'll see about this agreement'

Clontik Beardburner says 'Speak with Kronidar and Drenkar and find out what it will take to get them to shut down the Underquarry's production for awhile.'

You have been assigned the task 'Overheated Production'.

Hail Kronidar Stoutaxe 0/1 (The Underquarry)

Kronidar is at approximate location 130 -455 -197.

You say, 'Hail, Kronidar Stoutaxe'

Kronidar Stoutaxe says 'Kronidar Stoutaxe at your service, chief foreman of metal mining in Brell's Underquarry I am. Clontik's story of a disaster in the making with our production level is amusing. We have never had a problem in the Underquarry, ever. While the reports are disturbing, as is Brell's disappearance, you'll have to bring me solid evidence that there is a problem before I can take such a dramatic step as shutting down our metal production. Only if you can find evidence that the Burynai have become hostile, or that the golems have become unreliable, would I agree to make so bold a move.'

Kill 10 rebel burynai 0/10 (The Underquarry)

Collect 5 undertone wheelsticks 0/5 (The Underquarry)

These are known to drop from burynai tunnelblades, caveblades, and tricksters.

Collect 5 golemite sagecrystals of iterave progress 0/5 (The Underquarry)

These are known to drop from brass and silver golems.

"Collect" items in this task may be pre-looted (if task doesn't update, attempt trading with Kronidar and hit cancel to update the task).

Deliver undertone wheelsticks to Kronidar 0/5 (The Underquarry)

Kronidar Stoutaxe says 'I am shocked that the Burynai could have become involved in this trouble. Yet their messages you have brought me indicate that not only have deep and disturbing changes taken place in our fellow creatures, but that they are acting autonomously and digging up metal ore to their hearts' content, defiant of our pre-determined production schedule. At the rate they are digging, and with Brell no longer regulating things, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire Underfoot ends up choked in unwanted ore in a matter of days. Perhaps they might even dig deep enough to open a breach into...somewhere else.'

Deliver sagecrystals of iterative progress to Kronidar 0/5 (The Underquarry)

Kronidar Stoutaxe says 'It is indeed difficult to understand how the golems could have become unreliable. If the other information you have been asked to present is in order, then we must shut down the metal mines at once. It will take time, but I think I can get at least the dwarves and gnomes to stop mining metal. But there is something I hadn't thought of: where will they put their pickaxes when they stop work? We'll have to build pickaxe racks, I suppose. Find me some pieces of wood, and I'll try and locate a carpenter somewhere.'

Collect a wooden pickaxe slat 0/4 (The Underquarry)

These are in the wood boxes spread around the zone.

Deliver a wooden pickaxe slat to Kronidar 0/4 (The Underquarry)

Kronidar Stoutaxe says 'Thank you, these will give us enough wood for our first pickaxe rack. Imagine, we of the Underquarry putting aside our pickaxes for once. What will we do with our time?'

Hail Kronidar Stoutaxe 0/1 (The Underquarry)

You say, 'Hail, Kronidar Stoutaxe'

Kronidar Stoutaxe says 'I believe you and Clontik; I will shut down the metal mines at once, as soon as Drenkar agrees to shut down his stone quarry. I wouldn't want him to remain in production, and make me look like the worrisome old fool; he would never let me forget that if we live for all eternity!'

Hail Drenkar Darkhammer 0/1 (The Underquarry)

Drenkar is found at -592 -176 -260.

You say, 'Hail, Drenkar Darkhammer'

Your task 'Overheated Production' has been updated.

Drenkar Darkhammer says 'So you say Clontik has a problem with us doing what Brell brought us here to do? Maybe he should come down here himself so I can laugh in his face. But I have seen some mildly disturbing changes in the routine lately, including your presence here. If you can bring me solid proof that all is not well with my stone quarry, for example, that our genati aren't performing their tasks as they are supposed to, then I shall revise my thinking and take Clontik's news more seriously.'

Kill 3 surly genati 0/3 (The Underquarry)

Collect genati ore-stash maps 0/3 (The Underquarry)

Collect genati satchels 0/3 (The Underquarry)

As with the previous items, these are pre-lootable.

Deliver genati ore-stash maps to Drenkar 0/3 (The Underquarry)

Drenkar Darkhammer says 'Let me have a look at these genati maps. Why would the genati be stashing ore in the tunnels... no, no, NO, this is all wrong! Why are they behaving this way? Where did they even get time to make such maps...? All of this is... is... why, it's against Brell's Way!! We must have order here. I am loathe to admit it, but perhaps Clontik is right, and the Underquarry is in serious trouble. If I am not even getting good information on what is happening right under my very nose, then something has indeed gone very, very wrong down here.'

Deliver genati satchels to Drenkar 0/3 (The Underquarry)

Drenkar Darkhammer says 'There are bits of metal ore in these bags! Whichever genati were using these bags, were supposed to be moving STONE! Not METAL! Bah, I am losing my patience with these creatures, they have simple jobs to do and they simply stop doing them? Very well, Clontik, you worry-prone pile of calluses, you'll have your way today. Before I can shut down the stone quarries, I must have some metal pegs of some sort strong enough for my crews to hang their stone-cutting saws.'

Collect stonesaw pegs for Drenkar 0/4 (The Underquarry)

These are in the parts boxes spread around the zone.

Deliver stonesaw pegs to Drenkar 0/4 (The Underquarry)

Drenkar Darkhammer says 'These are good pegs, they'll support our saw blades. We've never had to retire or put down our stone-saws before, not once.'

Hail Drenkar Darkhammer 0/1 (The Underquarry)

You say, 'Hail, Drenkar Darkhammer'

Drenkar Darkhammer says 'I shall shut down the stone quarry now. Go and tell Kronidar what I'm doing, I'm sure that old knuckle-wart is waiting to see if I'm actually going along with this plan.'

Hail Kronidar Stoutaxe 0/1 (The Underquarry)

You say, 'Hail, Kronidar Stoutaxe'

Kronidar Stoutaxe says 'Very well, if Drenkar is shutting down production, then so shall I. Report to Clontik that the Underquarry's production has been halted, for now.'

Hail Clontik Beardrunner 0/1 (The Underquarry)

You say, 'Hail, Clontik Beardburner'

As much effort as it took to get their cooperation in shutting down production, something which has never happened before in the Underquarry, I fear the delay may only be temporary until they run out of patience and start digging again. What else would they do with their time? They were made to dig. For now, hopefully the golems and genata will start removing the piles of unwanted ore from wherever they have been dumping them.

Clontik Beardburner says 'You must be a master negotiator to get those two to agree to anything, much less respond to an emergency that I warned them about.'
