This solo task is the first of three tasks that begin with Thorbin the Elder in the Cooling Chamber. He is located near -170, -320, -25.

You say, 'Hail, Thorbin the Elder'

Thorbin the Elder says 'Hello there. You strangers are becoming rather common these days. I guess eventually we'll be the strangers here!' Thorbin smiles broadly. 'You're welcome here as far as I'm concerned. I rather enjoy a change of pace now and then. Not that I have time for much chit-chat these days with all the [troubles] going on down in the chambers.'

You say, 'Troubles?'

Thorbin the Elder says 'I hate to give my problems to others, but I just can't figure out what's going on. I really need someone with fresh eyes to poke around in the chambers and see if you can spot anything amiss. I do feel the need to warn you that not everyone here will be happy to see you. A lot of folks blame you strangers for what's happening here and they won't take kindly to seeing you. If you're willing to take a risk I could really use your help. If we don't figure out what's wrong our glacier will melt. We really don't want that to happen, trust me on that. Can you [look into it] for us?'

You say, 'I will look into it'

Thorbin the Elder says 'Thank you! Good luck to you, and to us.'

You have been assigned the task 'It's Getting Hot in Here'.

You have been tasked by Thorbin to look into why the water has not been cooling as it should.

See if you can find out what is causing the problems. Is there something wrong with the mechanism of the chamber itself, or is someone committing sabotage?

  1. Find why the water is not as cool as it should be 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

This is trickier than it sounds. Head southwest toward the first lake and spend your time hanging round the traitorous laborers you find in the rooms around the lake. Several /locs have been given as working for this stage:

    -1050, 404, -212
    -1000, 376, -221
    -760, 74, -193

    Add these points to CoolingChamber_1.txt

    P -111.0000, 792.0000, -193.0000, 0, 0, 0, 2, It_Getting_Hot_In_Here_update
    P -376.0000, 1000.0000, -212.000, 0, 0, 0, 2, It_Getting_Hot_In_Here_update
    P -404.0000, 1050.0000, -221.0000, 0, 0, 0, 2, It_Getting_Hot_In_Here_update
    P -74.0000, 760.0000, -193.0000, 0, 0, 0, 2, It_Getting_Hot_In_Here_update

You do seem to need a roaming traitorous laborer nearby to get the update:

You notice the traitorous laborer acting suspiciously.

  2. Watch carefully to see what they are doing 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Just stand still until you get the emote:

The traitorous laborer notices you as it pours the firewater into the reagent.

    He will then attack you.

  3. Kill 1 traitorous laborer 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Task Window Says: Defend yourself and kill the laborer.

Any traitorous laborer will do. If you die trying to get the one that aggro'd, you can run back and kill any of them in the zone.

  4. Tell Thorbin what you witnessed 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Task Window Says: Let Thornbin know what you observed.

You say, 'Hail, Thorbin the Elder'

Thorbin the Elder says 'That is not good. That could ruin the whole system. It is necessary for the cooling of the worlds that this water be cold. Since you are already helping me, I will need you to gather supplies to make a counteragent. You will need some caveflower pollen, pure cooling reagent powder, and stonegrind solvent. You will also need to get plans from one of the traitorous workers to be sure you get the mix correct. This device will help you find the pure reagent powder.'

You receive a clicky item called "Cooling Chamber Navigational Assistant".

Task Window Says: Collect the parts to make a counter agent against the corrupted reagent. Thorbin has left you instructions.

  5. Collect some Caveflower Pollen 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

These are found as groundspawns underneath the flowers you see around the zone.

  6. Collect some Pure Cooling Reagent Powder 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

The device Thorbin gave you will lead you to the correct barrel that holds the pure cooling reagent powder. Head to the barrel room (it's the southernmost of the deadend rooms off the Pellucid Grotto lake). Move round each of the barrels in turn and click the device, it won't break invis, until you see:

The barrel you need should be right in front of you.

/open that barrel and loot your powder.

  7. Collect some Stonegrind Solvent 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

This is a very common drop of the various oozes in the zone.

  8. Find some Reagent Corruption Plans 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Task Window Says: You need the plans to know exactly what mixture you need to undo the work.

These appear on your cursor when you kill a traitorous worker.

  9. Create 1 Purifying Cooling Reagent using tradeskills 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Create the purifying cooling reagent in a reagent mixing chamber that you can find in the cooling chamber. It should be located near one of the large pools in the chamber.

Combine the four items you just gathered in one of the retort shaped containers scattered around the zone. There are a couple on the shore of the Pellucid Grotto lake and the rooms off it.

You have fashioned the items together to create something new: Purifying Cooling Reagent.

  10. Deliver 1 purifying cooling agent to Thorbin the Elder 0/1 (The Cooling Chambers)

You have found one possible cause of the troubles, and have helped with a possible solution.

This looks like it's still buggy to me. There's a post in the bug reports section of the forum, but there's no response on it: https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/its-getting-hot-in-here-cooling-chamber.286745/.

I found additional bug reports on the EQ forum, both with no developer response, the 2nd link has an additional recommendation to kill everything as a 'reset'.

Steps from 2nd link (posted by Wyre Wintermute) - I'm assuming the locations he mentions are the ones with map locations in this post.
Quote:

Go to the area of each location (invis).

Make sure there is an "a traitorous laborer" basically right next to the location.

Kill the mobs there, invis, go to the next spot.

After the above steps, when there is "a traitorous laborer" nearby, get close to the location and drop invis, lev, RS [run speed] buffs, (I don't recall if shrink helps or hurts). WALK to the location and wait for the emote. Do this ALONE on ONE character at a time. Ungrouping may help, just have the invite ready.

Do this for every location suggested.

The quest has several issues (not bugs, per say, but very finicky). Like several other quests you may come across down the road, this is a "solo" quest and having a group full of characters on the same step can cause issues. So.. you basically have to do this for one character at a time (at least up to getting this update).

The location to trigger the emote is small. Z axis can affect it, but not always (depends on height distance and character model). Walking and no RS buff just makes it easier to hit the sweet spot.

If someone else triggered it and ran or had multiple characters on the step, it can break things.. hence killing everything around the location(s) FIRST to ensure a clean slate.

I tried every method and suggestion here. The only thing that worked was to zone out to the nearby Pellucid Grotto zone line, zone in with one character, then go stand by the spot mentioned near the Reagent Mixing Chamber. It did not require anything other than that. Waited for the first two updates to appear, then killed a laborer. I did only have one character with the quest at a time until they got to the third step, kill 1 traitorous laborer. I also got one update by accident in the upper room near the Lower Foreman.

I didn't notice a pathing laborer each time.
I didn't need to wait for the first update to stop moving. I just parked my characters, then they both updated shortly afterwards, about 15-20 seconds
Invis, levitation, grouping, and mercs; none of that mattered.

So I finally completed this task last night, 3 box. There is a LOT of useful info in the other posts such as loc, lev, invis, but what worked for me, was to ungroup, zone in one at a time and do the first 2 updates solo. It appears to me that when grouped, once one gets the 2nd flag, it cancels it out for the rest. Once a char defeats the traitorous labourer, sit him / her out, repeat with others, once all chars completed this step, I was able to regroup and complete the rest within 10 mins for all 3. The 3 mobs by the brew barrels were labourers, and this is where the task updated for all 3 of mine. some were quicker than others with the agro part, but only by half a minute or so. It is imperative that when you are going for the first update, set char to walk, and take a step at a time. Once first update happens, stand absolutely still. I didn't even look around for fear of blowing the 2nd update. Hope this helps anyone else that comes looking.

It appears this is a solo task. Does it show to be a shared task in game?

You must absolutely stop and stand still as soon as the update happens. If you are running at advanced speed, this will not be possible. As you approach the update area, stop, take a step, stop, and continue until the update happens, then don't move.

(This is near the traitorous laborers near the brew barrel by the pond.)

Tried all the things mentioned above, no joy, no first update no matter where I hang around waiting or how long or where I run around to anywhere in the general area of the damn lake. Eventually after dropping and getting it again several times I was able to get one of the spots to work.

Two-boxing, Temperance + merc + Okiru + merc. Both received he task at the same time.
Okiru gets 1st step update, Temperance moves closer, gets 1st step update.
Okiru gets 2nd step update, all traitors agro,
Temepance never gets the second step since the MOB she was waiting for is now dead.

Quits task, restarts, can't get 1st step update now.
Zones, returns, nope. Quits task, zones, restarts, nope.
Kills existing traitors in 3 spots hoping respawns will be careless and she'll get the update(s)
Nope nope nope. Smiley: banghead
Over two hours of this, it's getting old, and Okiru wants to go pollen hunting but the dorfs do not abide.
Four hours.

Okiru had completed the steps so the server decided not present Temperance the steps since the group already got an update. (Did not help, this is not a shared task.)

I get called away and both characters go to PoK, spend some time there, head back to CC to try again... Run to the closest location from zone in (on the table in the corner), get step one update instantly and step two update as soon as I turned around, set my merc to an aggressive stance and hit auto attack. Finished Savior of The Cooling Chamber soon after.

Not getting task specific location updates? Refresh your chances by having EVERYBODY in your group leave the zone and come back.

Can be in group
Can have mercs up
Go to neg 792, pos 111
stand on table in the corner...u will get update... wait 10 sec and 2nd part of update pops...kill all when they agro ...or zone into PG.
Here's what I did.

I got stuck here like everybody else, got only 1 update and waited 15 min for the second. No luck. So I dropped the task, opened it again and ran to the two pipes. (invis up, no levi if it matters) loc -979, 384, -222. I got the first update immediately and I stopped after the ud and just waited. It took about 5 sec to get the second one.

This quest is completely dumb.... buggy without end...
Quitted and updated now three times and the stupid script will not update the second step. Had to go through 3 chars with 2-3 times quitting and getting the quest again. This is a typical numb time sink... sometimes I hate being beta tester on releases which suck my money...

I came to the Cooling Chamber to work on the Coldain Slayer achievement, but since I'd never done any of the quests here I figured I'd see how they worked. I killed my way through the westernmost passage off the lake near the Pellucid zone, because all but one of the coldain there were traitors. One in the dead-end room itself was behind a table, and apparently is a PH for Eldaa Kemph since I found her there when I went back to check the loc (neg 1063, pos 405, neg 210).

Having cleared everything else, I was standing behind the table fighting the traitorous worker PH, when I saw the Thorbin task update and got the emote about a suspicious laborer. I looked around but saw no laborer, so I kept fighting the worker. After a little while I got the second emote and the laborer added to my extended targets list, but I still didn't see it. My guess is it was roaming along the edge of the lake and got close enough for me to get the update even though it was on the other side of a wall. It did eventually find its way to me, along with three adds it found along the way. Nothing too dangerous at level 100, but I spent a nervous minute waiting for it to warp to me and watching my targets list grow!

Task Update

I had three peeps to push through this quest, so here are my pearls of wisdom:

1. It worked best when only one person at a time had the quest. If two people had it at the same time, one would get both updates, and one would just get the first, and then nothing, and have to start all over any way.

2. Being in a group, or not, didn't seem to matter. I got the first two peeps the updates in group, with mercs out. I got the last one solo, with a merc. -- It really doesn't seem to matter.

3. Getting the updates seemed to work best when I asked Thorbin, then went to the update location, versus getting the task, signing out, and coming back later. Although, that said, it seemed to work best when getting the task and going for the update was the first thing that the person did. It took three days experimenting with all the various and sundry ways of trying to get the task update to arrive at this conclusion.

4. I got everyone updated at -978, 392, -213, which is basically inbetween those two pipes, levitating, but over the walkway.

5. Once you get the first task update, freeze, and do not move, it takes a full minute for the second update to happen.

6. Once you have both updates, and kill the laborer, and check in with Thorbin, the rest of the task is pretty easy. The barrels are random. I found it easiest just to clear all the goos to do the barrel checks. And if you find goo ooze, keep it, it is pre-lootable for task #3.

Good luck!

I have difficulty of getting an update also. Try all the locations, levi, no levi, in group, not in group, with pet not with pet, kill the alchemist around and respawn with labourer >>> all no update.

So finally just log off and come back several hours later. Boom got update on first try within seconds arriving at the room where the Lower Foreman is, with levi, invis, no pet. A few second later got the 2nd update.

Hope this help.
Here's the trick

In order to get the 1st update at any of the locations provided, there has to be 3 Traitorous Laborers up at the brew barrels. If there are only 2 or if one of these mobs is an Alchemist, then you will not get the update.

Clear the Alchemist out and wait for the respawn. Once all 3 mobs are laborers then you will get the update in short order.
First Two Updates

I spent many hours trying to find just the right spot to get these updates and couldn't even get the first update. Here's what I finally found out.

There is a room at the top of the ramp that leads down to the water. In the room there is a bar area and a traitorous mob in the middle of the room. I walked right up to that traitorous mob so I was face to face with him and so close I was almost on top of him.

I got the first update within a couple seconds and didn't move from that spot until he started beating on me 60 seconds later.

I didn't have to wait for any roamers or the stars to be aligned. It worked the first time and for every other toon we were running through. Give this a shot and it should save you a lot of frustration. I hope it works for everyone else as well as it did for us.

Ok, i tried this in many ways and managed to update all my six accounts doing exactly the same thing, very easy in the end. First of the location i used was -973, 391, -222. No lev, no need to be over the water. I stood between the two pipes in the water but on the path. There are three Traitorous Laborers there. Stand still update is quick, no wanderer necessary. You must wait for the second update about 60 seconds later, otherwise drop the task and start again. then run to Pallucid as they attack.

This worked perfect once I dropped group and merc. I tried this spot 20 or 30 times IN group with no update. Out of group both updates triggered almost immediately. I zoned out to PG to drop agro. Rejoined group and killed a random traitor for the kill update.

I stood at LOC -1000, 376, -221 for a long time. Here's the deal.

As Ushnec says, drop it if you only get 1 update. Get the task again. Make sure nobody is camped in the PG zone area. Go to this exact location [LOC -1000, 376, -221] facing the mobs and DO NOT MOVE until the second update pops your invisibility, THEN RUN LIKE HELL to the Pellucid Grotto zone line and zone. You can also use Feign Death, Fade, Mem-Blur, or any other clever aggro-breaking trick you might know.

You may need to repeat this process until you get all the way through to the part that tells you to kill a laborer. One member had to drop and get the mission three (3) times before it finally updated properly. Positioning needs to be exacting for the second update to work.

You are finally past the nightmare part of this entire task, and I congratulate you.

Maybe this tiny update spot will get fixed sometime, but I'm not holding my breath.

1. Find why the water is not as cool as it should be 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

2. Watch carefully to see what they are doing 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

To complete the above two steps, you'll have to find a location where you can 'lev over the water' (may not be necessary...) and 'watch a roamer go back and forth' until the first step updates. Then wait again for the second update. This process may take several minutes.

I was successful at getting it completed at the -1000, 376, -221 location but not at the 760, 74, -193 location as mentioned below.

This part also seems very buggy. It worked easily for some of us and not at all during our session for others. It seemed also to happen more often when the roaming traitorous labor walked by twice.

It also should be noted that as soon as you get the second update, you will immedately get agro from the traitors that are close. You will lose your invisibility. I just trained them to the Pellucid Grotto zone line which is very close.

Ok. I think I may have figured out why we were not able to get the first two updates some times. It seems that a merc being in group may cause the quest to be buggy. We were able to get several people through getting the update quickly (within 15 seconds of getting to the spot) when they got the quest solo (without a group and without a merc), then run to the spots for the updates. Both spots worked doing it this way.

3. Kill 1 traitorous laborer 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

4. Tell Thorbin what you witnessed 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

He gives you a Cooling Chamber Navigational Assistant device. This is used to help you determine which barrel contains the Pure Cooling Reagent Powder you need.

5. Collect some Caveflower Pollen

Ok. Unlike what it says below, this is NOT in the barrels. It is actually a ground spawn near the Brells Rest zone in near one of those green plant things. It looks like a small patch of spider webbing on the ground. Usethe Cooling Chamber Navigational Assistant device to determine which barrel is the correct one.

6. Collect some Pure Cooling Reagent Powder

This is in the barrels. The are located in one of the side rooms near location you got first two updates. There are a lot of goos in the room. You can open the barrels but cannot loot them while the goos are present. Opening the barrels caused me to gain agro from the goos the first time. So my group just cleared the room. Goos agro in sets of 3, even if you use Harmony Arrow. But they are easy to kill and do not hit to hard (at least not hard when compaired to other things in the zone). Occassionally there is a yellow con goo mixed with a set, but most of the goos are blue cons to a level 85.

7. Collect some Stonegrind Solvent

This are really common from the goos. You will get enough of them for several groups when clearing the room with barrels. The tend to drop in 1-3 solvents in about 3 out of 4 goo kills.

8. Find some Reagent Corruption Plans

This item randomly appears on your cursor when you kill one of the traitor dwarves. It is random. Does not happen all the time for everyone in the group but did not take that long for us to get it for our entire group. You must be at this part of the quest before it can appear though. That is, you must have completed the first two updates and have already talked to Thorbin a second time before you have a chance for this to appear on your cursor.

9. Create 1 Purifying Cooling Reagent using tradeskills

To create this, you place the plans + solvent + pollen + powder in a Reagent Mixing Chamber. This can be for at the spot you got the first to updates. They are brew barrels that look like grey tear drops on top of coals. You can be invisable for the combine and do not gain agro during the combine.

10. Deliver a Purifying Cooling Reagent Thorbin the Elder

This is quite ridiculous. I have tried everything listed. Talked with everyone who has done it. Nothing seems to work. I have petitioned. I cannot get the first update. Talked with many others having the same issue.

Today Donan Twest sees invis in the first room also - FYI.

steps so far are :
Find why the water is not as cool .......
Watch carefully to see what they are doing
Kill 1 traitorous laborer
Tell thorbin what you witnessed.

Will post locations when I can
room is about -760, 74, -193, steps 1 and 2 in that room.
might be this loc too. -770, 64, 195

Thorbin tells you to collect:
Caveflower Pollen (barrels)
Pure Cooling Reagent Powder (barrels)
Stonegrind solvent (off oozes)
Reagent Corruption Plans (off Traitorous workers)

Then create a purifying reagent using tradeskills.

stuck atm trying to find a reagent mixing chamber. says near one of the large pools
