A note about this horrible quest to help people.
Your pitchfork should be in your primary hand. When you target a scarecrow, make sure you are on top of the mob before you click the pitchfork, else nothing will happen.
Clicking the pitchfork makes the scarecrow run in a random direction. It would seem if you direct them they go into the corral but most of the time they don't.
Best strategy is wait for one to them to path near and click the pitchfork.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
My first attempt I was 9 out of 10 and all the hired hands went home and all the scarecrows left the corral. I didn't know you could reset them by doing the first quest again.
I did and the hire hands came back. You only get the update when the hired hands are there.
I'm guessing if you are partially done you can do the first quest again even with the second quest loaded and you can get the hired hands back.
I dropped my second quest before realizing I could get the hired hands back by doing the first. Ugghhh!!!

This is a Halloween task available only during Halloween 'season'. It follows the "Carry the Torch" task from Rongol, at the end of which:
Rongol tells you, 'Wonderful! We've hired some folks to hold the torches. Now all you need to do is get some of those crazed scarecrows into the corral. I've got a few [pitchforks], Karana knows I don't need them for my crops. I bet you can prod them into the corral. If you could just get enough of them into the corral maybe we can be free of them.' You say, 'Pitchforks?' You have been assigned the task 'Scarecrow Roundup'. Rongol says 'Aye, here ya go. Don't hold back, those pumpkin-headed chatterboxes could use some serious stabbing.' You receive Rongol's Pitchfork. Force the scarecrows into the corral with the pitchfork Rongol gave you 0/10 (West Karana) Equip the pitchfork. It's a 2-hander, so remove your secondary first. Click the pitchfork while standing next to and targetting a crazed scarecrow. Hopefully it will go toward the corral that is surrounded by the hired hands. Usually away from you. The scarecrows path randomly around and if they stop long enough in the corral they will be caught. By using the pitchfork you can encourage them to path through and stop in the corral. You have to be somewhat near the corral when they are caught to get the update. Your task 'Scarecrow Roundup' has been updated. Rongol and Anderia are very grateful to you for your help. You have successfully been granted your reward for: Scarecrow Roundup Reward: 20 Spiced Crow's Blood 10 Scarecrow Potion This task is repeatable with an 18 hour lockout. You can request Scarecrow Roundup without having done Carry the Torch but you cannot get any updates without the hired hands being in place around the corral. Put pitchfork in primary slot, secondary empty. Created hot button for task bar, tried to right click nothing. Opened character inventory screen, clicked from there, nothing.

It seems like this task is currently bugged- The pitchfork must be equipped in order to use the clicky, but I wasn't able to equip it in any slot. Even leaving my primary slot empty and then clicking "equip" in the inventory window results in the pitchfork just going into inventory rather than the primary slot, so...no completing the "Garden Variety Ghouls" accomplishment this year, I guess.

Did you make sure your secondary slot was empty too? That item is a 2 hander.

You can equip it, but your secondary must be empty, so no second weapon or shield
Yeah, just saw a response to my posting of this problem on DBG's issue tracker: Apparently, the item is classified as a 2H piercer, despite its description window saying nothing at all about it being classified as a weapon of any type whatsoever. This is why secondary needs to be empty to equip it.

Ugh! This got old - fast. Scarecrows bolt in random directions more often than the way your facing. Was real tired of this by the time I completed the task. About 20 minutes.
Not doing this again without a loaded gun to my head.

You have to poke the scarecrows with a pitchfork and try to get them to run in the direction you want. They run about 50 feet. So you have to figure distance and direction. If you're too close to the corral, they will run right through and you won't get credit.
So, you have to get about 55 feet away from the corral when you poke the scarecrow and hope he goes in that direction.
Don't bother with the ones close by the corral. Start with one farther out and just steer him to the corral, 50 feet at a time.
It took me a little over an hour to do 10 Scarecrows. It's not easy. I was grouped, and we did not get each others updates.

Ok this was a simple and fun quest .. however even though the quest is repeatable every 19 to 20 hours the reward for the potion scarecrow illusion is only from the first time you complete quest.. if you do the quest more than once you only get the food as the reward .. did it twice so i know.. thanks
just completed it took about 15mins to get them all round up in the pen, fun quest will do it again. torches can be bought in PoK for part 1 of the quest.

sigh... so they didn't fix the problems from last year?
In 2008 most of the scarecrows for this quest were way up in the NE corner of the zone. :(

After 15 minutes and only managing to get 2 to go into the "corral" I gave up. Even if you manage to somehow get one to head into the corral it always either run through it or stops right next to it becoming stuck and un clickable.
