Anniversary events tend to run from mid-March to mid-April (sometimes to mid-May) each year. They are not available during the "off season".

For an overview and list of EverQuest Anniversary events, see this quest entry.

This is an anniversary quest available only during anniversary season (a few weeks during March and April). It was introduced in 2009 as part of EverQuest's 10th anniversary.

This is one of 16 deity quests. For an overview of how rewards work and how these quests are linked with one another, see this writeup.

Below here are the details for this particular quest.

This task begins with the Avatar of Bertoxxulous in the Blightfire Moors. He is located at 739, 62 - right next to the mushrooms and the dead dragon, almost directly east of the druid rings.)

You say, 'Hail, Avatar of Bertoxxulous'

Avatar of Bertoxxulous says 'Well met, mortal. You find me in a generous mood this day, though most who find me at all soon begin to desiccate and wither. I am pleased with the corruption and decay these creatures spread; yet I am disposed to extend my power into those few places on this world where living things still deign to exist free of [disease].'

You say, 'Disease?'

Avatar of Bertoxxulous says 'We have so much to do! I require more worshippers, and you require a task. [Follow] my bidding, and I will possibly spare you the agonies of what is to come.'

You say, 'I'll follow'

Avatar of Bertoxxulous says 'Excellent. As you serve me, remember that corruption and decay is vital to a healthy universe. Other gods concern themselves with the trivialities of creation or other basic passions. I am the force that prunes even the fittest creatures from existence, lest they overwhelm the world with their numbers and create an impossible imbalance. The task I have for you is simple: Take diseases into the world, and use them to generate culling plagues among the animals you find. Will you [offer] me your fealty?'

You say, 'I offer my fealty'

Avatar of Bertoxxulous says 'I am pleased. You are both puissant and vital; you shall spread my blessings of corruption with utmost vigor. Here is your first inspiration. The plague-bearing rat population in Norrath has been declining of late, due to the collective efforts of the people to destroy them. However, the rats of Norrath were made to spread plague. Seek out Scheredin, one of my priests, in the alleys of East Freeport. He will provide you with the means to return plague to the rats. Go now, I wish to commune with these corrupters.'

You have been assigned the task 'Culling Fever - Bertoxxulous' Favor'.

The god Bertoxxulous has returned to Norrath to gather his energies, and has given you the task of spreading pestilence throughout the land.

Speak to Scheredin, Priest of Bertoxxulous, somewhere in East Freeport

He is located at -600.42, 330.24 (near the WFP zone, north and around a corner from it if you are zoning in from there).

You say, 'Hail, Scheredin'

Your task 'Culling Fever - Bertoxxulous' Favor' has been updated.

Scheredin says, 'So, you are the one my Master has sent me, to spread glorious decaying infection to the creatures of Norrath? I suppose you are perfect for the job, the Source of All Pestilence must know what he is doing. These are simple things I task you with, but they require some travel, and some tracking. First you'll need to infect some animals in North Ro, and get some plague going.'

Infect a sandskimmer bat in North Ro with Virulent Olistier Mold 0/1 (North Ro)

Location: 9118.00, -2126.73, newbie desert area outside of EFP

Infect a mother rat in North Ro with Virulent Olistier Mold 0/1 (North Ro)

Location: 8724.96, -2195.06, newbie desert area outside of EFP

Infect a wiry coyote in North Ro with Virulent Olistier Mold 0/1 (North Ro)

Location: 7875.98, -941.13, grassy area between newbie and main desert

Infect a raging fire beetle in North Ro with Virulent Olistier Mold 0/1 (North Ro)

Location: 7972.04, -1819.80, grassy area between newbie and main desert

Infect a clever stonesnake in North Ro with Virulent Olistier Mold 0/1 (North Ro)

Location: 6872.11, -1799.81, just past the grass inside the main desert area

Report the news of the infected North Ro animals to Scheredin 0/1 (East Freeport)

You say, 'Hail, Scheredin'

Your task 'Culling Fever - Bertoxxulous' Favor' has been updated.

Scheredin says 'Such a simple task, but it was necessary to put those rats back on the path of pestilence-spreading. Too easily can a rat population lose its fleas, and fail to spread the diseases which hold the population of the world in check. Too few creatures spreading plague, and we'd be awash in humans, halflings, dwarves, and whoever else. Next I'll need you to find some bears in the Rathe Mountains, and infect them with this Bone-Eating Goo.'

Infect a frisky black bear in Rathe Mountains with bone-eating goo 0/1 (Rathe Mountains)

Location: -642.39, 747.45, right outside of Gukta

Infect a content brown bear in Rathe Mountains with bone-eating goo 0/1 (Rathe Mountains)

Location: 4795.11, 1488.31, SE of the inactive druid ring at the bottom of the hill

Infect a clumsy black bear in Rathe Mountains with bone-eating goo 0/1 (Rathe Mountains)

Location: 3270.07, 2460.44, SE of Lake Rathe zone line

Report your progress with infecting bears to Scheredin 0/1 (East Freeport)

You say, 'Hail, Scheredin'

Your task 'Culling Fever - Bertoxxulous' Favor' has been updated.

Scheredin says 'You have done well with those bears. My agents are already sending reports to me, of bears growling as if there insides were overflowing with illness - which of course they are! Each person they bite will transmit such lovely diseases to the others they come in contact with. Now, I need you to pass into Icefall Glacier, and infect a floppy snow hare and a keen driftwolf. Beastly little pathetic things! It's time they were made to suffer a meaningful purpose and spread their fair share of pestilence.'

Infect a keen driftwolf in Icefall Glacier with Augrin's Cholerae 0/1 (Icefall Glacier)

Location: -2014.67, 523.51, east of Steppes zone line, "an adolescent driftwolf" was right next to it and aggroed me as soon as invis dropped

Infect a floppy icefall hare in Icefall Glacier with Augrin's Cholerae 0/1 (Icefall Glacier)

Location: -2031.02, 1144.36, west of Steppes zone line, at a moderately safe spot around the cats

Report the infecting of the Icefall creatures to Scheredin 0/1 (East Freeport)

You say, 'Hail, Scheredin'

Your task 'Culling Fever - Bertoxxulous' Favor' has been updated.

Scheredin says 'The snow hare population is already spreading illness to the other populations in Icefall! Good work. Next, you must take this vial of Fraech's Hidebloom and slather a skunk and a tiger in Toxxulia Forest with it.'

Infect a sinewy tiger in Toxxulia Forest with Fraech's Hidebloom 0/1 (Toxxulia Forest)

Location: -540.54, -119.12, almost straight south of Erudin, on a rise close to where the narrow part of the river flows out into the main part

Infect an endearing skunk in Toxxulia Forest with Fraech's Hidebloom 0/1 (Toxxulia Forest)

Location: 2145.83, -3.03, west of Erudin

Report the successful infection of Toxxulia Forest animals to Scheredin 0/1 (East Freeport)

You say, 'Hail, Scheredin'

Your task 'Culling Fever - Bertoxxulous' Favor' has been updated.

Scheredin says 'The infected creatures will make quite a disease-ridden spectacle out of Toxxulia Forest, for some time to come. It will take more rangers than all of Antonica has available to hunt down every last disease-carrier. The last thing I must ask you to do is locate the unicorn Damaex, who has recently returned to Elddar Forest after a hundred-year absence, intent on rutting with his mates and raising new unicorn foals. The forest, however, is already thick with unicorns, so I will need you to infect Damaex with a case of Redrech's Scallops Plague. Surely it will be impossible to find the time to sire new foals while he's covered with huge, red, blistering boils!'

Infect Damaex the Unicorn with Redrech's Scallops Plague 0/1 (The Elddar Forest)

Location: In Elddar Forest, -219.94, -1331.58, north side of Unicorn Lake, watch out for a little sylph that silences)

Report on Damaex's infection to Scheredin 0/1 (East Freeport)

You say, 'Hail, Scheredin'

Your task 'Culling Fever - Bertoxxulous' Favor' has been updated.

Scheredin says 'Your work is done. The unicorn population in Elddar Forest will remain stable for a century or more. I wish I had more like you, not very often do I find individuals so willing to aid the spread of corruption and pestilence, in Bertoxxulous' name. Go now and speak with Bertoxxulous; he is no doubt pleased with your performance and may be prepared to grant you a boon.'

Return to the Avatar of Bertoxxulous and present proof that you have done his will 0/1 (Blightfire Moors)

You say, 'Hail, Avatar of Bertoxxulous'

Your task 'Culling Fever - Bertoxxulous' Favor' has been updated.

You have done as I have asked; you surely must be proud to serve the Corrupting One so magnificently!

Avatar of Bertoxxulous says 'Faithful worshipper, I have seen the glorious results of your toils. You have pleased me very much with your hard work and diligence. I grant you this.'

I found same.. duplicate mobs in Icefall Glacier.. Don't have to kill other mob.. just tab target next closest mob.

Also, may want to bind at Scheredin as you'll need to go to him a lot of times.

I picked up a bug after the most recent update. After getting the Augrin's Cholerae and being sent to Icefall, i was unable to affect the quest mobs.
Message "You can only use Augrin's Cholerae on creatures specifed by Scheredin" or something of that nature. (and I've completed the task with a different character, so i am targeting the correct beasties)
Just curious if anyone else has found this bug and if the only way to remedy it is to remove/restart?

just did that task, and had the same problem. I noticed there were 2 mobs up very close together. So I killed the one where it wouldnt work on, tried it on the second, and that worked

I have had this happen to me as well (trying to infect the appropriate animal failing). When it happened, there were two instances of the animal to infect up at once, in most of the zones, standing right next to each other. Clicking one with the infection agent gave me the message along the lines of "there is no need to infect this animal now", while clicking the other one standing next to it worked and gave a task update. To fix this, you can kill the animal-to-be-infected and wait for it to respawn (takes about one minute or two to respawn) then it will work, if you only see one instance of the animals up.

Confirm this works but it was a longer respawn for me. I waited about 5 minutes still wasnt up so I went and made lunch when I came back it was up again.

Moral: If you need to do this, dont freak that this guy was lying if he doesnt respawn in 3 minutes, just give him a bit more time to repop.

If the frisky black bear was at +3897, +1425 it would be in the Gypies camp, it's not there Trust me.

It is at -642.39, 747.45 just like it says.

I've been asked a lot how to get here, so hopefully this will help:

ELDDAR FOREST: To get here: South Ro to Ruins of Takish Hiz; from zone-in, run west (/loc +125, -65, +109) to a broken ramp (avoid the circular area with the raid mob, it sees invis).. on the broken ramp is a sand-swirl on a round disc, this will take you to Elddar Forest.

Not sure exactly why this was, but both mobs in Icefall caused wolves and leopards to aggro when we did this today. The good thing is that they are both (the rabbit and the wolf) close to the zone, so we could zone out. (We didn't expect aggro, so weren't ready for a fight...lol) The clicks themselves didn't break invis, at least that we saw, so not sure what did it. Just be careful here that you don't end up deaded...:)

The effect is instant so you can click while you are running. Just place each clicky in an open inventory slot for the entire task and make a hotkey for it.

The clicks *do* break invis. Do the rabbit in Icefall first, make sure no cats are nearby, re-invis right away. Do the wolf next; every time I've done him there's been an adolescent driftwolf right next to it, and since you have to pretty much be on top of the mob when you click, insta-aggro. If it's a lower level char, expect a death on this part (hence why doing rabbit first is a good idea!).

This is a lot of running back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Just stick with it. It will be worth it. It starts with 5 things you must disease then 3 then 2 then 1. Either stock up on the gate pots or bind in the city next to the guy if your a casting class :)
