There is no possible way to solo this quest without high level multiboxing, right? Looks like the effect from the Epositrig lasts a little bit more than 10 seconds, but the refresh timer on the item is longer than that. Even if you could somehow force the item to refresh fast enough to land three uses, it would run out of charges before all the NPCs were properly captured.
I tried using two other low level characters I created with other accounts, but I couldn't get the quest while they were in the group and they can't be added to the task.

This group task begins with Yemall the Arcane in the City of Dranik. It is available at indifferent faction with Dragorn Forces.
You say, 'Hail, Yemall the Arcane' Yemall the Arcane says 'Greetings, _____. I am Yemall, chief researcher for the city of Dranik. I apologize for the informality, but you realize that we are in [desperate times].' You say, 'What makes these desperate times?' Yemall the Arcane says 'The armies of Discord have entered our final stronghold, and their strikes become more and more deadly by the day. We're trying to learn as much as we can about our foes, but there are [difficulties].' You say, 'There are always difficulties.' Yemall the Arcane says 'As we study our assailants, it has become obvious that their nature changes the longer they are here in Kuua. To ascertain their core weaknesses we must be able to study them soon after they [arrive] here.' You say, 'Where do they arrive?' Yemall the Arcane says 'There is a great portal to Discord in the fields of Dranik, through which the Discordant army summons their reinforcements. Alas, we have not been able to push our forces to that point in some time, and so my supply of [subjects] is dwindling. We could use your help if you are [willing] to offer it.' You say, 'I'm willing' Yemall the Arcane says 'Excellent. You and your companions should each take one of these [items] and then proceed to the [portal].' You have been assigned the task 'Studying the Portal'. Yemall the Arcane needs a constant supply of subdued invaders to study, but they can not have been on Kuua for very long. Find the portal where they are entering the world and subdue them there. You say, 'What items?' Yemall the Arcane says 'Once you have weakened your foe, three of you will need to quickly subdue them with its enchantment. If you are not fast enough, they will break free, so work with haste. If you happen to lose yours, I can [provide] more.' You say, 'Provide more...' Yemall the Arcane says 'Here is another item with fresh enchantments. Use it well!' The item received is called "Epositrig". At least three people in your group should get one before running to the zone. Each item has 20 charges of "Thaumaterianize". Explore the portal area 0/1 (The Precipice of War) This task step updates as you get close to the round building you see to your right after you zone (Loc: -1075, 850, 280). You've found the portal! Try to subdue examples of each type of invader. Defend yourself from the ambushers and return to Yemall! NOTE: Don't set up camp right at the zone-in, as later in the task, KOS mobs will spawn there. I found a way to mostly solo the quest. You just need someone to group with when picking up the mission. Pick it up, drop it, pick it up a few times to get multiple units of the quest item. Then go to the instance portal solo and use the wuest items in rapid succession when the targets drop to the necessary health threshold. One person can capture the NPCs, but you need at least three of the quest items in you inventory for it to work. They all have separate refresh timers so it does work.
Didn't try asking the NPC to provide more, but if he gives you more regardless of whether you have that item, then you wouldn't need to drop and re-acquire the quest.

Im having trouble clicking. Got 2 success out of 12 tries. Log says they landed within 5 seconds. Maybe the limit is less than that?
edit: got it finally. Just needed to get better at switching between toons.

Worked great for me last-night got my PoWar access finished
Faction received for every group member for the mission Studying the Portal:
On the final hail, Dragorn Forces +40, Discordant Army -40.
On accepting the task reward, Herald Argoth +33.
Also, a reminder that at least 3 players must obtain the Epositrig clicky item from the quest giver before running to the zone.
Also, one time I did the mission and found out there were no Pyrilen mobs up. So it might be wise, first thing when you zone in, to verify there is at least one each of Pyrilen and Gelidren mobs up inside the portal gazebo.
On the final hail, Dragorn Forces +40, Discordant Army -40.
On accepting the task reward, Herald Argoth +33.

As of my post date the 4 mobs spawned. 2 an ikaav ambusher, 1 a noc ambusher and 1 a kyv ambusher. Right at the zone in. The task updated properly the whole way through.

As of 7/04/11 The quest is bugged. You can capture all the souls of the mobs but at the end when you are supposed to kill the 4 ambushers, none spawn.

this it a great task for the soloing necro if u got a bot or can just ask someone to join in on task anyways i do it every day for lesson burns can get 25aas per lesson just need war pet for tanking kyvs
also drops Distorted Eternal Luminessence and Distorted Eternal Incandessence

I was able to use sneak at apprehensive faction and get this mission. My other toons, all apprehensive, were able to get the clicky by just saying "provide" to the NPC even though their faction was not high enough.
The attackers at the end spawn right in front of the gate and are static. They do not see invisibility, snarable, and are rootable. They are easily split up with a puller. Task adds can be done at the end.

Indifferent faction alone isn't enough to get the quest. Nor is amiable faction.

I was having the same problem... until I realized Yemall the Arcane in City of Dranik, not Noble Yemall the Arcane in Old Bloodfields that gives this quest.

As also stated by Jemuril in post Beguiler Chandra named Ikaav and random spawn within instance drops one of the following:
Varuun's Battlehardened Targe
Targe of Kuua
Dire Gounus Egg
Gounus Egg
Her ph is an Ikaav Despirer took between 7 and 10 tries of setting task, waiting 15 mins for spawn and dropping before getting her up... She's located in the small temple to the west of the central portal area. She's in the room single with 2 roaming mobs outside and is possible to single pull if timed properly.
She is level 86 / 87, is not snareable, hits for as high as 7k on a 4700ac tank... also cast an AE knockback and rampages. Nothing in this instance sees invis.
As for the task in general, it can be received with indiff faction from Yemell the Arcane, 3 group member will need to talk to him in order to get 3 devices to capture the required mobs which have approximatly a 20sec recast timer however there is roughly a 10sec window in which all 3 members have to cast to capture the mobs. DO NOT set up camp at zone in, upon completion of your final mob capture 4 attacker will spawn at zone in. They do not see invis and will not agro as mentioned above. They are snarable and can be split. Kill all 4 and report back to Yemall for task reward.

He will only give 1 item to the person asking for quest. So you have to have 2 other chars at him and say provide to get the clicky to capture the mobs.
