This raid expedition begins with Jerom Bertrand in Oceangreen Village.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Completed "A Secret Hidden in Plain Sight" (solo task)
- Completed "A Corrupted Arch Priest" (group mission)
- Completed "Remove the Head and the Disease Will Die" (group mission)
- Completed "The Bubonians Are Coming!" (mini-raid)

You say 'Hail, Jerom Bertrand'

Jerom Bertrand says 'Ah yes. You're the one Cadmael has been speaking of; the one who's ventured into the temple and faced my former master! I shed no tears for his death _____, as death is the natural end of all things, but the day I stumbled upon the filth in the south wing, I knew I had been led astray, and I could no longer continue in my duties. I, and others like me thought we served the great plaguelord Bertoxxulous, yet it seems we were just pawns in some larger agenda. What that agenda is I cannot tell you, but I CAN warn you of the [coming dangers] in hopes someone like yourself can deal with it before it's too late.'

You say, 'Coming dangers?'

Jerom Bertrand says 'Bubonians I think they're called. Horrible vomitous abominations I say. Part man, part fly. I don't know what hell hole they were conjured out of, but their mere existence can only mean death for anyone nearby. I make no apologies for my service to the disease lord, but I never agreed to be part of this atrocity. Someone must [destroy them] before their infestation spreads to these hills and to the world beyond. Of course if you are truly brave, and you can find a large force of heroes, you could destroy the disease at the [source].'

You say, 'The source?'

Jerom Bertrand says 'The flies have a queen. A mother. She births them all. Without her they would eventually die off. But she is a terrible creature and you would need a lot of help to defeat her. I can [show] you the way, if you truly have the heart for such a battle.'

You say, 'Show me'

Jerom Bertrand says 'Good luck!'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Temple of Bertoxxulous.

In this instance you'll encounter the Queen Malarian.

Queen Malarian says 'You dare disturb my nest!'

She hits for a max ~13,000; has ~21.5 million hitpoints; and AE Rampages. She casts two spells, both of which are emote-based:

Queen Malarian anchors her feet to the ground and prepares to unleash a wave of burning acid.

...means she's about to AE "Smoldering Acid":

Smoldering Acid: Area - PC Only 80', Poison (-700)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 18000

Queen Malarian begins to exude diseased fluids and takes careful aim at _____! (seen by all))

You see the queen glare at you, aiming her sickening ball of fluids at you. (seen only by her target)

...means she's about to cast "Wave of Infestation" upon the targetted player:

Wave of Infestation: Targeted AE 30', Unresistable (-1000)
1: Increase corruption counter by 8
2: Decrease HP when cast by 7000

For every player hit with this spell, a tsetsian plaguespreader spawns (max hit ~4,000; enrages).

Also, waves of "a tsetsian maggot" (max hit ~1,200) spawn about once a minute.

In addition to all of the above, "a plague spirit" wanders the area and casts an aura silence/blind spell.

Once the queen is dead, a Maggot Covered Chest spawns with loot.

Queen Malarian has been slain by _____!
Queen Malarian's corpse crashes to the floor.
Your faction standing with Plaguebringer Parishioners got worse.
Your faction standing with Bayle's Irregulars got better.
Your faction standing with Cirtan, Bayle's Herald got better.
Your faction standing with Residents of the Glade got better.

It doesn't "wander the area" aimlessly. It seems like it's actually leashed to the queen itself.

I have completed the achievement Hero of the Temple of Bertoxxulous. I figured i would have no problem requesting this task. The instant i say source three things happen at the same time. First thing i noticed is that I get a pop up that sais "There is a more challenging version of this event. You will only be allowed to bring 35 adventures with you. Will you rise to the occasion?" Spelling was wrong with adventures instead of adventurer's. Clicking Yes or No results in the same exact thing. Nothing happening. The second thing i see in red text Jerom Bertrand says, 'Wait but a moment and your patience will be rewarded.' Third thing i see in normal say Jerom Bertrand says 'The flies have a queen. A mother. She births them all. Without her they would eventually die off. But she is a terrible creature and you would need a lot of help to defeat her. I can [show] you the way. If you truly have the heart for such a battle. Or have you chosen to do this the [hard way]?'

I had the 6 people needed for the task. They were all within the 15 lvl limit of each other. Highest lvl was 97. Lowest lvl was 89 so no problem with that part 4 of the 6 people had also completed the achievement Hero of the Temple of Bertoxxulous. I tried Show me and variations on that such as please show me the way. I also tried hard way and variations like please show me the hard way. Still nothing. If i try to say ready to him he sais 'I wish you good luck (insert name), though i doubt i will see you alive again.' . Of course nothing happens at that point either. I tried requesting the task with a lvl 95 character that had completed the Hero of the Temple of Bertoxxulous achievement just in case level had something to do with it and i was unable to request the task with anyone higher then level 95. No such luck with that either. I wanted to kill Jerom Bertrand by this point but it wouldn't let me kill him.

I was told that instances in general were not working as of my post time at least on the cazic-thule server. I guess that would explain the problem in the first place. Still for a friday night during anniversary events it is kind of unexpected.

This raid here...is such a fun raid once you understand what you need to do with the audio triggers/adds. The guild I am in attempted this after failing a couple times with a chanter that was only slightly up to par as far as mezzing this stuff (Mez not sticking every time and such). The trash is very easy to clear in her room, and is absolutely nothing to worry about. We went in and aggroed Malarian and saw the hp start dropping. I was quite comfortable seeing this, but not so much when I remembered about the adds every minute or so, and the adds from the cure-required debuff. My shaman was the curer / group healer for my group, and shockingly I did quite well, only strange part is, nearing the end of the queens health, it seemed like the cure would not cure the people that ran the the cure station. This didnt hinder our attempt at this event, but it made me quite curious as to why. Regardless, we had about 60+ adds through out the event, and somehow our guild managed to finish this nasty thing off. Im quite proud of our guild, and I know we will be farming this monster for the excitement and the essences.

Wrong. Pets do not spread this nor do swarm pets. My guild uses both on this event. We don't get "mass adds" from having them. 30+ swarm pets is tons of adds and we don't ever see it. Not to mention, get a pet class, take it to the raid, let it get hit, then watch the buff fall off and nothing happen. Pets just don't follow all the rules when it comes to spells. I've seen dots land on pets that result in a DT do nothing to the pet.

Please, quit spreading lies about pets. Devs do not put in mechanics that will force you to remove pets (not to mention, you are just hamstringing your own dps by doing this).

If you are getting mass adds, it's because you aren't paying attention to emotes /bonk. The whole raid sees who's going to be hit so using that knowledge plus HoTT you can easily see if they get cured. Better yet, you should see that person running to a cure station.

A big help for this raid is gamtexttriggers. Go to gambosoft.com.

Can be done comfortably with 25 people. But you'll want good tanks and atleast 4 healers, 1 curer (with a backup to cure him just incase since he cant cure himself), atleast 2 mezzers (chanter or bard) then a buttload of dps.

Wizards are good to have as the maggots are susceptible to fire, but anything is good.
access to next void.

this does not give you access past void b so if your void b flaged you wont be givin access to void c
Fairly simple...

Over all this really isn't a hard raid. It's little more than a tank and spank that people are required to play while actually watching their screens.
Make sure to move when the queen is about to blast you, then get cured. If you don't adds spawn.
It's *better* if you move when she's about to do her flux AE, but not required. It doesn't even hit pets.
When you get blinded/silenced... move a little.
Kill the maggots as they spawn, mez or kill the flies, dps the queen.
Fairly simple...

I've read the raid description above, and it seems mostly simple. Is it really as easy as the text makes it appear?

Just as a side-note, the lockout for this raid shows up misspelled. It says Temple of Bertoxxulous: Queen Malarion as opposed to Temple of Bertoxxulous: Queen Malarian. Just now noticed that.

We used TL on raid, targets you message went off take TL and then banner back...works like a charm to keep the plagues from killing the raid. Maggots not very difficult to deal with but the plagues hit for 4k and when you have 11-20 of them pop. Well needless to say a bit more painful.
Sikening Silence
# Feb 20 2009 at 3:14 PM Rating: Decent
Also cast Sickening silence (an unresistable silence) , separate from plague spirit. is rare, only landed on 2 people in 4 attempts at her. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=17315
