This task begins with Raxtor Darkpaw in the far southwest of Oceangreen Hills (at the Darkpaw camp). It follows his first task, "Freedom!".

    You say, 'Hail, Raxtor Darkpaw'

From here, you'll get one of two responses...

Raxtor Darkpaw says 'You not stinky for human. [Darkpaw clan] need help to stop Blackburrow clan. They dirty, smelly clan all the time. Yip! Now they crazy clan too. Darkpaw clan small now, so you make Blackburrow clan [not be crazy]?'

Raxtor Darkpaw says 'You good human. You not smell too bad either. Bark! Now Raxtor ask big favor for you. Blackburrow clan insane. They steal pups. Do bad things to pups. They dirty clan always, but now they insane. Raxtor ask you to kill Blackburrow leader, Chief Vel'tix. Vel'tix make clan crazy. Yip! With no Vel'tix, Raxtor help Blackburrow clan, lead them to not be crazy. You [help] make Blackburrow clan not crazy?'

    Both lead into the task:

    Raxtor Darkpaw says 'Yap!'
    Raxtor Darkpaw says 'Yip!'

You have been assigned the task 'Beat the Blackburrow Boss'.

Raxtor has learned to trust you and has asked you to do something very important for the Darkpaw clan. They want revenge on the Blackburrow clan for what they have done. They want you to kill the leader of the Blackburrow clan.

Raxtor can't tell you where the new chief of Blackburrow clan resides. He is certain, however, that special guards follow him wherever he goes, and so they will need to be dealt with. Killing the clan leader will achieve the revenge the Darkpaw crave.

Travel to the entrance of Blackburrow and open the door 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)

The entrance is the same as the non-instanced Blackburrow.

Find the new leader of the blackburrow clan 0/1 (Blackburrow)

This update is in the northeast part of the zone, where the high commanders can typically be found. Location: -78, -370, -35. You'll be knocked back upon approach:

You are thrown back by powerful protective magics.

Find a way to get past the ward 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Blackburrow Runestones drop from gnarl type gnolls throughout the zones. As of a patch in December 2013, you only need one of these items. Previously, you needed at least two, but this is no longer the case.

Approach the knockback area the furthest you can without being pushed back. Click the rune here.

    If too far away:
You are very near the lair of the Chief of the Blackburrow gnolls, but not there yet!

With only one clicker (note: no longer applies):
You have weakened the warding, but alone you know you cannot turn it off.
You sense that two separate stones are required to turn off the warding.

    Upon success:
You have dropped the wards guarding the chief’s lair.

'Persuade' the leader of the Blackburrow to help you 0/1 (Blackburrow)

You'll have to fight Clan Chief Vel`tix and two burly gnolls (located in the room you just broke into). Kill the two adds and fight the Clan Chief until he emotes at 50%. NOTE: Make sure you don't over-DPS him to the point of killing him, otherwise you may bug the task.

Clan Chief Vel`tix shouts 'Wait! Yip! Stop! I, I surrender. Vel`tix not want to die for crazy [Gnarls]! You kill them, not Vel`tix!'

    You say, 'Gnarls?'

Clan Chief Vel`tix says 'Gnarls, the ugly ones! They take away Blackburrow gnolls and do [terrible things] to them. Bark! That why we take Darkpaw pups, so Gnarls not take our pups.'

    You say, 'What terrible things?'

Clan Chief Vel`tix says 'Vel`tix not know what they do. Not want to know. You take key. You go fight with Gnarls. Leave Vel`tix and Blackburrow clan alone!'

    Receive Vel`tix's key.

Use key Vel'tix to get into hidden area 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Vel`tix, in the last moments of his life, seemed to suddenly break free of some powerful charm magic. The symbol he gave you is obviously potent magic. Now, if you can find the door that it opens you might just figure out what's going on here.

From the base of the waterfall area in lower Blackburrow, go east up a tunnel until you come to a door guarded by two burly gnolls. This is the locked door.

    You unlock the door.
    The door is unlocked.

Kill the frightening, deformed gnarled gnoll 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Gnarl Sawbones Brankt can be found in the chamber leading up from the doorway. Kill him for the update and get out as soon as possible, as a quick death awaits you if you hang around.

Gnarl Sawbones Brankt shouts 'S... S... So the i... i... invaders arrive! Now I g... ge... G... Get to u... Use m... M... My c... Cutting ssssskills on someone n... New!'

This is a fairly simple fight. He hits for a max ~2,200 and casts one spell: "Lower Limb Amputation Strike".

Lower Limb Amputation Strike: Directional 80', Magic (-300)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 2050 per tick (5 ticks))
    2: Decrease Movement by 40%

You have slain Gnarl Sawbones Brankt!
Gnarl Sawbones Brankt's corpse shouts 'Nooooooo! C... C... Come to my aid, b... Brrrr... Brothers!'

You hear a large number of creatures moving your way. You seem to have accomplished your task, perhaps escape is the better part of valor.

Deliver 1 Blackburrow Runestone to Raxtor Darkpaw 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)

Deliver 1 Vel'tix key to Raxtor Darkpaw 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)

Raxtor is grateful for your help. He mentions something about his chance to gain control. Whatever he plans, you're certain that it's going to take more than your small group to defeat the creatures that you glimpsed behind that door.

Your faction standing with Cirtan, Bayle's Herald got better.
You have successfully been granted your reward for: Beat the Blackburrow Boss

This is really easy to do. 1st jump down to the bridge that ya see in hole where waterfall is and go through the door, watch it the mob on other side does see invis. Then go along tunnel till ya see the 2 burly guards, thats where the ward is that you need the runestones for. Pass them is the Chief, remember to only fight him down to 50% health (2 adds). Say Terrible Things to get the key from him.
Now go back to the bridge and jump down to water. Go through the opening that will put you in lagre area. Where the water shallows there are some stones to cross over at and a small waterfall into a lower pool, well thats where ya want to start clearing at. The tunnel leading up East of there leads to the door which is locked.
    loc of Chief

Easy easy - drop down to bottom, straight east from waterfall is a lone gnoll on an outcropping / earth overhang. Right behind him is a door, go through door wind up, about 10 mobs, till you see an earth bridge you can right or left, go left and youll see a wooden door. go through door to the right up an incline is the red-axe barrier area where the Chief is. Guarded by 2 Guards.

After you get his key, go back to bottom waterfall where you came from. going out the same door, take a right (north), kill three or so mobs, take another right (east) go up incline to locked door, again guarded by 2 guards.

behind this door is deformed gnoll. He self buffs so dispell him.

Total mobs to kill if you clear all the way is only about 15-20.

Had 2 named spawn Mundunugu Rawl and Axeweaver.

Axeweaver dropped Axeweaver's Medal of Distinction https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=79482. He spawned on top of the ledge above the lake and rope bridges. Think its called commanders ledge.

Mundunugu dropped Sawl of Warwishes https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=79015. He spawned by lake just outside the locked door leading to Gnarl Sawbones.

Neither was harder than the trash mobs, didn't summon, were snareable and ran at low health.

SIlverfalls 84th Druid of Tunare, Brell Serilis.

Key learning about the door when you look for the boss of Blackburrow. Look at your map: the door is the easternmost point of your map, at the end of a short, narrow and completely straight tunnel leading East from the Northeastern corner of the lake at the bottom of the zone.
    Getting Key
    # Nov 21 2008 at 5:19 PM Rating: Decent
Did this today and kind of messed up at Vel'tix. We got the update, but he ended up healing before we could hail him. Hailing him after he healed he would not respond, and we couldn't re-engage him. Luckily one of my guildies remembered the script. We found the trick was simply saying the trigger phrase: "terrible things" and we got the key.

Find a way to get past the ward 0/1 (Blackburrow)

    (This involves what?)

Two people must loot a Blackburrow Runestone (lore) and they must right-click it from inventory when standing VERY close to the ward. To get to the ward, drop down the waterfall and land on the bridge. Go through the door to the east, then follow the tunnel. There will be a door on your right, and slightly up the hill will be two "a burly gnarl"s. These burly gnarls can not be snared, rooted or mezzed and are difficult (but possible) to split. The spot the burly gnarls are standing on is roughly where you both need to stand to break the ward.

    ---------------------------

Defeat the leader of the Blackburrow gnolls 0/1 (Blackburrow)

    (Fight information?)

Vel'tix the something-or-other has two mezzable guards with him. They are tethered in his room (inches behind the ward) and have an EXTREMELY small tether range. If any of them leash, they immediately regen to full, so you must fight in the room.
    Misleading step
    # Nov 06 2008 at 9:59 PM Rating: Decent
    Note that the task step

"Defeat the leader of the Blackburrow gnolls 0/1 (Blackburrow) "

doesn't actually get credit until you go to the gate and use the key. You might think it would show as completed after you "kill" the boss and get the key, but it doesn't.
    Full quest details.
    # Nov 06 2008 at 12:15 PM Rating: Excellent
Here are some more detailed locations and information.

Find the new leader of the blackburrow clan 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Make your way to a warded corridor at -78.40, -368.88, -34.01 (This is in the area with multiple commander spawns in small rooms.

Trying to pass the warded area results in you being thrown back out.
[Wed Nov 05 18:04:59 2008] You are thrown back by powerful protective magics.

Find a way to get past the ward 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Kill "Gnarls" and loot "a Blackburrow Runestone" these are either a 100% drop rate from any "Gnarl" mob, or at least VERY common. Two of the runestones are needed. (Lore items, requires 2 characters minimum to complete this task for this reason.)

Get as close to the ward as possible without being knocked back, and right click the Blackburrow Runestone.

Being too far away results in the message "[Wed Nov 05 18:04:15 2008] You are very near the lair of the Chief of the Blackburrow gnolls, but not there yet!"

When close enough, you'll get the message "[Wed Nov 05 18:05:07 2008] You have weakened the warding, but alone you know you cannot turn it off."

Clicking again produces the message "[Wed Nov 05 18:05:14 2008] You sense that two separate stones are required to turn off the warding."

Having two people spam-clicking the Runestones for a few seconds caused the ward to disappear.

Defeat the leader of the Blackburrow gnolls 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Clan Chief Vel`tix spawns in a small cubby just past the ward, he has 2 "a burly gnoll" in the room with him. All three of these mobs are leashed to the room, and it did appear possible to use the leashing action to get them as single pulls.

Fight Clan Chief Vel`tix until he reaches 50% health, and combat will stop.

[Wed Nov 05 18:06:34 2008] Clan Chief Vel`tix shouts 'Wait! Yip! Stop! I, I surrender. Vel`tix not want to die for crazy [Gnarls]! You kill them, not Vel`tix!'
[Wed Nov 05 18:06:41 2008] You say, 'gnarls'
[Wed Nov 05 18:06:42 2008] Clan Chief Vel`tix says 'Gnarls, the ugly ones! They take away Blackburrow gnolls and do [terrible things] to them. Bark! That why we take Darkpaw pups, so Gnarls not take our pups.'
[Wed Nov 05 18:06:46 2008] You say, 'terrible things'
[Wed Nov 05 18:06:47 2008] Clan Chief Vel`tix says 'Vel`tix not know what they do. Not want to know. You take key. You go fight with Gnarls. Leave Vel`tix and Blackburrow clan alone!'

You recieve the item "Vel'tix key".

Use key Vel'tix to get into hidden area 0/1 (Blackburrow)

I didn't take a /loc, but in the bottom of the zone, in the main central area with the lake, there is a short ramp leading to a locked door. Use the key on your pointer to unlock the door in the usual manner.
[Wed Nov 05 18:24:11 2008] You unlock the door.
[Wed Nov 05 18:24:11 2008] The door is unlocked.

    Step just inside the door.
[Wed Nov 05 18:24:19 2008] Your task 'Beat the Blackburrow Boss' has been updated.

Kill the frightening, deformed gnarled gnoll 0/1 (Blackburrow)

A short distance past the locked door, the tunnel opens out into a large room with many Gnarl Reavers and Gnarl Sawbones Brankt. I recommend pulling Gnarl Sawbones Brankt back into the corridor to fight him.

[Wed Nov 05 18:26:33 2008] You begin casting Harmonious Arrow.
[Wed Nov 05 18:26:34 2008] Your spell did not take hold.
[Wed Nov 05 18:26:38 2008] Gnarl Sawbones Brankt has taken 1 damage from your Harmonious Arrow.
    [Wed Nov 05 18:26:38 2008] Gnarl Sawbones Brankt shouts 'S... S... So the i... i... invaders arrive! Now I g... ge... G... Get to u... Use m... M... My c... Cutting ssssskills on someone n... New!'

He is a fairly simple fight, and uses one special ability that I saw.
[Wed Nov 05 18:27:34 2008] Gnarl Sawbones Brankt begins to cast a spell. <Lower Limb Amputation Strike>

[Wed Nov 05 18:27:48 2008] Gnarl Sawbones Brankt's corpse shouts 'Nooooooo! C... C... Come to my aid, b... Brrrr... Brothers!'
[Wed Nov 05 18:27:48 2008] You hear a large number of creatures moving your way. You seem to have accomplished your task, perhaps escape is the better part of valor.
[Wed Nov 05 18:27:48 2008] You slash Gnarl Sawbones Brankt for 344 points of damage.
[Wed Nov 05 18:27:48 2008] You have slain Gnarl Sawbones Brankt!
[Wed Nov 05 18:27:48 2008] You are consumed by the thrill of the hunt.
[Wed Nov 05 18:27:48 2008] Your Hunter's Rage enhances your instincts.
[Wed Nov 05 18:27:48 2008] You unleash a flurry of attacks.
[Wed Nov 05 18:27:48 2008] Your task 'Beat the Blackburrow Boss' has been updated.

Note the message about "perhaps escape is the better part of valor" because it means a large number of Gnarl Legionaires just spawned and are starting to walk towards you. I can't vouch for how far or fast they approach, since we decided Exodus was a wise idea at this time.

Deliver 2 Blackburrow runestones to Raxtor Darkpaw 0/2 (Oceangreen Hills)
Self explanatory, two people had in their stones to Raxtor.
[Wed Nov 05 18:31:40 2008] Your task 'Beat the Blackburrow Boss' has been updated.

Deliver 1 Vel'tix key to Raxtor Darkpaw 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)
    Same as above =)
[Wed Nov 05 18:31:45 2008] Your task 'Beat the Blackburrow Boss' has been updated.
[Wed Nov 05 18:31:47 2008] Raxtor is grateful for your help. He mentions something about his chance to gain control. Whatever he plans, you're certain that it's going to take more than your small group to defeat the creatures that you glimpsed behind that door.
