This task begins with Raxtor Darkpaw in the far southwest of Oceangreen Hills (at the Darkpaw camp). In order to request this task, you must first have completed three other Darkpaw tasks:

    "Summary Execution"
    "Invading the Invaders"
"What Evil Lurks in the Heart of Gnolls?"

    You say, 'Hail, Raxtor Darkpaw'

Raxtor Darkpaw says 'Yip! You help Darkpaw, that good? I trust you. [Darkpaw clan] trusts you, bark! Not like that smelly Bayle. He come here says he help Darkpaw, but he think helping humans better. You come to help at good time. Blackburrow clan insane! They steal our pups! Darkpaw clan too small now, need you to help get pups back. Yip! You help, [yes]?'

    You say, 'The Darkpaw clan?'

Raxtor Darkpaw says 'Bark! Darkpaw clan smartest gnoll clan! We not need angry, frothy mouth killing to get what clan need. We smart. We trade. We make beer! Yip! Trade for everything we need. But now the [smelly Blackburrow] clan take home, kill many Darkpaw. We not know why. Bark!'

    You say, 'Smelly Blackburrow?'

Raxtor Darkpaw says 'Yip! Raxtor not want to talk about smelly Blackburrow clan. They not wander hills and plains any more. They come and take Darkpaw home. Some day Darkpaw get home back. Teach Blackburrow that they ruin their own lands, they not ruin ours! Bark!'

You say, 'I can help, yes'

    Raxtor Darkpaw says 'Bark!'

You have been assigned the task 'Freedom!'.

Raxtor Darkpaw has asked you to search the depths of Blackburrow for their missing pups. It seems several of them have vanished recently while learning to hunt near the ancient mine. The only clue anyone has found was a piece of a letter to a shaman, once thought to be dead, named Kregak.

Search for clues about the missing Darkpaw pups within Blackburrow 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Grand Mystic Kegrak can be found patrolling around the area at the bottom of the waterfall.

Grand Mystic Kegrak has been slain by _____!
Grand Mystic Kegrak's corpse snarls in defiance and falls to the ground.

Loot "Orders from Grohlok the Tyrant".

Free the Captured Darkpaw pups 0/8 (Blackburrow)

Upon Kegrak's death, Captured Darkpaw Pups will spawn, along with several "an enraged gnoll slaver".

    These are in two locations:

    - The old "Green Room" past the snake pit (approximately 400.07, -311.03, -57.64).
    - And an adjacent large room (approximately 82.82, -278.85, -69.56).

Killing all the slavers guarding the Pups causes the pups to run away and update your task. No interaction with the Pups was necessary.

    Upon freeing the final pup:

Grohlok the Tyrant shouts 'The master's plans must NOT be delayed!'
Your task 'Freedom!' has been updated.

Kill Grohok the Tyrant 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Grohlok the Tyrant spawns at 101.01, -140.80, -69.20. He may auto-aggro after a short period of time, so be prepared.

At approximately 50% health Grohlok becomes invulnerable:

Grohlok the Tyrant summons allies to his side and then falls into a deep trance-like state.

A single "a gnarl shaman" spawned directly on top of Grohlok.

    One minute after becoming invulnerable:

Grohlok the Tyrant awakens from his trance, ready to fight!

Grohlok had returned to full health, but all debuffs remain in place.

    At approximately 30% health:

Grohlok the Tyrant summons allies to his side and then falls into a deep trance-like state.

    ...And shortly after:

Grohlok the Tyrant awakens from his trance, ready to fight!

Once again, Grohlok is at full health but long term debuffs are still active.

Grohlok the Tyrant has been slain by _____!
Your task 'Freedom!' has been updated.

Report back to Raxtor Darkpaw 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)

    You say, 'Hail, Raxtor Darkpaw'
Your task 'Freedom!' has been updated.

Raxtor's face turns ashen and grim at the news of the threat living within Blackburrow. He thanks you for rescuing the pups and suggests they may need further assistance in the near future.

Your faction standing with Cirtan, Bayle's Herald got better.
You have successfully been granted your reward for: Freedom!

    Reward:
    Timeshear Purple Fragment Dena
    30 Chronobines
    Faction

    Loot from other named:

    Axeweaver

    Battered Gnoll Shield
    Gnoll's Honor Medal

    Blackburrow Nightstalker
    Crudely Etched Ring
    Gnollface Mask
    Nightstalker's Clandestine Ring

    Mundunugu Rawl

    Earring of the Mundunugu
    Shawl of Dreadwishes
    Shawl of Warwishes

Completion of this task allows you to request the next in the series, "Beat the Blackburrow Boss" (essential for Oceangreen theme progression completion).

Once you've completed the Blackburrow task series, you can request this again any time by saying "not be crazy."

Pathing near the pups was bad. Tag something and it ran the opposite direction, and came back with friends.

We ended up clearing the area to the west of the big pup room and pulling to there because the slavers would run that way every time we tried to pull them south to the intersection near the knockback barrier.

    120 chromo for it today.

Ok, i hate using loc in such a vertical and maze like zone, so here is a description of where to find the pups.

First, from zone in, run to the middle and lev down the main open pit ( deep one with waterfall ) to the rope bridge, cant miss it, the one and only rope bridge in the middle of that huge pit.

Now go up the rope bridge to the door ( the other direction takes you to a tunnel), just on the other side is a reaver ( undead), he is a single, fight, kill him.

keep going a bit and take your first left ( at a four way intersection ) This is the first room with pups and 4 slavers.

There is a wanderer that wanders up to this intersection also. Helps to kill him first when he wanders into the intersection.

All these mobs so far, except reaver, dont see invis.

Now, I used snare and evac to pull the slavers up to the intersection. Otherwise they all came, all 4, Harmony can work here to, and sometimes it is resisted and you get all 4.

Now, from this first pup room, head down: there is a reaver just right around the corner going down from this first pup room. pull him and one add comes. kill both.

After killing both of these gnolls, follow right wall to the second pup room. Easier to pull the 4 slavers here; kill them all and the named spawns behind you and wanders up to the first pup room.

So that is it: from zone in to waterfall pit, to rope bridge, through door, stay left to first pup room, then follow right wall to second pup room.

    Hope these directions help.

Is there some kind of secret here - everytime we tried to control the slavers holding the pups, they bolt and bring back a ton of adds leading to a wipe. Now we didn't have a mezzer, but was using AE root. And even when we tried to pull just one - they all bolted and brought back adds.

    Any suggestions?

I dont know, but it sounds like ae root is aggroing the pups, and they run then. so try it with no ae near the pups, pull the slavers over one room, that should work. I used ae root ( vinelash cascade, druid cone root spell ), but did so away from the pups, and i had no problems.

My experience with this mission showed that mobs do not respawn in this zone, so find yourself a good spot to set up and start clearing. Also, the final boss mob spawns in the room at location +200 -150. This is the room that is up the ramp from the snake pit and just before the "Elite Room" (may be called something else on your server). To start with, I set up by where Brewmaster spawns in the normal Old Blackburrow and cleared my way down the ramp there to pull Grand Mystic to. Then I made my way to the snake pit by going the back way up the ramp where the butcher spawns in the regular old blackburrow. Once at the snake pit I set up on the ramp and cleared from there. The one mistake I did make was I stayed in that room.... bad move because when I freed the final pup I had an add in camp and the final mob spawned on my head. So my suggestion would be to either set up on the ramp to the snake pit and kill there, or once you have cleared the elite room, pull the other slavers to there and kill in there, so that you can be ready for the final mob when he pops.

    # Mar 22 2009 at 9:39 AM Rating: Decent
I'm making my way through the Oceangreen progression on two different toons. First toon was with a power group; someone else got the tasks (who completed the pre reqs) I completed just the required tasks with the group and was able to make it through to Void B doing one quest in Blackburrow, Beat the Blackburrow Boss quest. Here are the quests we did:

    - Familiarity is Key
    - Stop the Contamination
    - Dread Challenger
    - Beat the Blackburrow Boss

Second toon started with a group that hadn't done any of the quests or tasks. We did three quests Summary Execution, Invading the Invaders, and Send the Message and were able to get Freedom. We completed Freedom and were able to get Beat the Blackburrow Boss.

Very similar process for the other required Oceangreen tasks. Had to do Man the Defenses and No Cure for Death with SGT Bronal Cadran prior to getting the required tasks Familiarity is Key, Stop the Contamination and Dread Challenger from Captain Hiran.

Taking our 2nd team of 3 toons through the Crest and Void tasks, I got up to the "final fight", and this time Raxtor wants us to do Freedom first, hehe.

I dunno what caused him to not offer it the first round, perhaps I had gotten a /taskadd for it and didn't remember.

81 Rogue- 20.3khp and 2.7kac, hardest Grohlok the Tyrant hit me for was 2441, however he does hit quite fast.

    He does NOT flurry
    He does NOT rampage
    he does NOT enrage

as far as when he summons the first enemy, he didn't summon a mystic for us, he summoned an enraged scrawny gnoll, so I don't think it's really set for which one he summons, it's just random I believe. On that same note, he summoned the mob for us at 70%, so something tells me it's moreless based on time and not health, but do not quote me on that. The second set he was supposed to summon bugged out on my group, so we actually didn't have to fight that.

He doesn't have a lot of hp I'll say that much. Didn't have a parse running sadly, but even with having to fight him at 100% 3 times, it was maybe a 5-7min fight.

This task is needed for progression to "Beat the Blackburrow Boss", which is a void progression task. Since BTBB is a group task, someone else in the group can request it without you having to do "Freedom" and since you don't need "freedom' for void progression, it's no surprise you got void progression.

Grohok spawns outside of the rooms with slavers. He wanders and sees invis, so you have to watch out for him.

I pulled him into one of the slaver rooms I cleared and began to kill him. I'm not certain what percent the add spawned, but I'm guessing 70%. Grohok went to sleep and I rooted the add. After a minute he awakes and regenerates to full health. I got him down to 30% when he slept again. He also summoned the add I previously rooted. No other adds spawned. He awoke again and I continued until he died. Finished the one add after.

I can confirm that the task "What Evil Lurks in the Heart of Gnolls?" is NOT a prerequisite of this task. We completed the 3 solo tasks given for inside BB, completed them and were able to get this Group Mission, even though the quest giver was still dubious to us? Don't matter I guess, 'cause we got the task and finished it. We had a tracker with us who was tracking 3 named mobs, we never did track any down to kill though seeing as how it took us like 2.5 hours to do the task as it is. Had a little trouble pulling the second room with the pups. wiped (all but the necro) like 3 times before I got everyone else to stay back and let me split.

    # Nov 07 2008 at 9:42 AM Rating: Decent
From the area where you kill Grand Mystic Kegrak, the easiest way to go is to swim through the underwater tunnel beneath the small waterfall, then climb the ladder and run up to the door leading into the spiked snake pit. Open the door, walk into the spiked pit, take the first "left" and you'll be heading right into the two room area in question.

    # Dec 27 2008 at 11:32 PM Rating: Decent
couple more things, once you go through second door and see the red ax room to the right, the main room is down straight ahead. 3 slavers very hard to split due to horrible pathing.

For some reason you cant go through the axes to get to the slavers in that room with the last gnoll pup - "Powerful Magic Throw you back"

but you can cast through it and you can see the slavers just enough.

The end boss spawns right outside the red axe room, popped right on top of me after about 2 min clearing last pup spawn.

The slavers hit for around 2k, the boss hits for 2740. All in all not too too hard hardest part is finding pups.
    Pup locations
    # Dec 27 2008 at 10:34 PM Rating: Decent
dont know about all that, underwater tunnels take me out of the way of where pups spawn, and confused the hell out of me.

Easiest way for me was to jump all the way down into water - across from waterfall at very bottom (think its when you face east) you'll see one lone gnoll posted in an outcropping, behind him is a door. this door is just to the right of the gnoll commander as you look east out from bottom of waterfall. Go through that door and follow path up. Watch out for a posted undead gnoll on the left midway up - (not far).

as you go up the path there is a earthen bridge you can go right or left. If you go left there is a door. Go through door, rooms are up to the right (you can see the guard posted there and red axes in the air)

its not far at all from bottom of hole once you go through that door maybe 10 mobs total.

This guy is a genius. Follow his instructions about getting to pups. They are in the NE section of the zone.

Reavers are Undead and see through normal Invisibility.
There are no zone repops. Once the mob is dead it stayed dead.

Axeweaver the named was next to the spot Guard Ellery spawns. Up and across the 2 ladder bridges.

I would advise killing the 8-10 mobs at entrance if you dont have good crowd control. Then you can evac a few times after pulling a few trains. Or use druid snare evac method to separate undead from others.

2 Merc clerics can heal themselves for 5 minutes and they will let a player tank will drop in 30 sec.

Get the task Invading the Invaders and loot 4 insignia for everyone for that quest.
