This solo task begins with Fenden Helter in the Citadel of Dragonscale (right next to the port-in location). It has a lockout timer of 18 hours.

You say, 'Hail, Fenden Helter'

Fenden Helter says 'Hey there _____! You look like just my kind of adventurer! Do I have an [opportunity] for you! Why don't you come over here and we'll discuss the riches and adventures that can be yours?'

You say, 'An opportunity?'

Fenden Helter says 'Yes, yes! I alone am in a rather unique and fortunate position and lucky for you I'm willing to allow you to work for me! You see I happen to be close personal friends with nearly everyone in this part of the world. I am so trusted, in fact, that I'm authorized to hire adventurers such as you to perform various, ah, [tasks] for the groups in this part of Faydwer.'

You say, 'What tasks?'

Fenden Helter says 'There are several types of services you can perform for my various employers. You can perform [errands] or engage in [combat] or even perform various [acts] of mischief and sabotage. Whatever you choose you will be rewarded!'

You say, 'Acts of mischief and sabotage?'

Fenden Helter says 'Why don't you take a look at these tasks and see if one or more of these seems like something you'd like to do today?'

A window pops up offering two tasks.

You have been assigned the task 'A Special Favor - Entrapment!'.

The strange followers of Bertox that are studying the dead in the Hills of Shade have a special request for you. They have provided a device that, if used properly, will trap the spirits of the dead within a containment seal. This device has been configured to specifically operate only in certain locations but the device will guide you to the correct spots if you pay attention to it.

In order to form the trap you must place a rune at each cardinal point around the correct huts. The Necromancers of Bertox will then be able to study these beings at their leisure. Visit six huts in the Hills of Shade, three in the Kirathas Village and three in the Blackwater Village and trap some souls! Return to Fenden when you have completed this task.

Ask Fenden for the item you need 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills)

Hail him and receive Spectral Containment Device.

Trap any spirits you find in one of the huts in the Kirathas Village 0/1 (Hill of Shade)

Hut location is -211 2037.

Trap any spirits you find in one of the huts in the Kirathas Village 0/1 (Hill of Shade)

Hut location is -294, 2109.

Trap any spirits you find in one of the huts in the Kirathas Village 0/1 (Hill of Shade)

Hut location is -265, 2189.

Trap any spirits you find in one of the huts in the Blackwater Village 0/1 (Hill of Shade)

Hut location is 1360, -155.

Trap any spirits you find in one of the huts in the Blackwater Village 0/1 (Hill of Shade)

Hut location is 1467, -493.

Trap any spirits you find in one of the huts in the Blackwater Village 0/1 (Hill of Shade)

Hut location is 1439, -586.

Your task 'A Special Favor - Entrapment!' has been updated.

Your trap is complete. Bertox's Chosen will be along later to 'harvest' this area. You have no doubt doomed any souls caught in your magical web to an eternity of pain.

Speak with Fenden again now that you are done. 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills)

(Dialogues?)

Notes:

1. Bring plat. Best way to do this is to talk to the mysterious stranger (453, 938) in HoS and buy the two disguises - The Eyes of Blackwater and The Eyes of Kirathas (one at a time, when you finish the first set, destroy the disguise and buy the second) so you can wander around the villages without getting waxed. Remember some of the ghosts do see through the disguise (especially in Blackwater iirc), con before you get too close. Each costs 52 plat and change

2. The huts have one or more villager/vendors/whatever inside. One of the Blackwater huts I did had 2 named in it. If you click the Spectral Containment Device and you are not at the right hut, it will tell you. It will also tell you if you are getting closer or further away if you move a bit and click it again. You can tell you have the right hut when you click the Spectral Containment Device and it tells you:

You don't have all four of the cardinal runes in place yet! Hurry!

3. Each time you click it, a rune appears in the air if you are in the right position. You must put a rune at each cardinal position outside the hut. If you are successful with each placement, the spirit will groan something about being alive, there are a couple different things it will say.

4. You only have a short time before each rune disappears. If you are not fast enough you will get a message stating:

You were too slow and failed to trap this spirit.

5. If you get this message don't fret, it just means one of the runes disappeared, just go to that position and put up a new one.

6. Once you get all 4 runes in place at N/S/E/W of the hut, you will get a task update.

It took me awhile to figure out that you find the hut. trap the spirit inside then do the N, S, E, W outside that hut finishing and clicking again on the first rune outside that hut. Then go to the next hut. I was trying to capture the 3 and find another spot in the village. Hope this helps

Why Do These Quests?

I find these quests very good for faction as long as your patient and realize you wont get ally over night doing them. Once a day doing the two Fangbreaker quests took around two months to get from dubious to ally but then again it only took 15 min a day to do. Working on Bert now and then probably Ladies of the Light. These quests are especially good for increasing faction for toons you have on the back burner so to speak and the 1.25 aa or nice exp boost per quest at level 70 doesnt hurt either.
Why Do These Quests?

When SoF opened up, there was not a lockout. So I was able to do the ladies of light tasks over and over. My chars were too low to take proper advantage of it, but I did indeed observe the phenomenon. So the items were more reasonably priced if you were among the first 1 to 2 percent who mastered the expansion. and yes, this is std SoE rape the customer behavior, tho they have gotten Much better over the past 5 years

Are there any other tasks other than from Mr. Helter that grant Faycite as rewards?

I mean, 3, 20, or 30 faycitum is the reward for completing a task. The vendor's prices are anywhere from 730 to 2500 faycitum for an item.

You can only complete 1 (3 faycite), 1 (20 faycite), and 2 (30 faycite) tasks, per day. For a maximum total of 83 faycite per day. Per character. Which the faycite are no-trade items.

Now, I'm willing to admit that SoE does, on a good chunk of the finer points, have difficulty in distinguishing their heads from their a**holes on a daily basis, but they can't really be *THAT* stupid........

...can they?

Any help here would be much appreciated, and if any Allah mods read this, is there any chance you could add a Faycitum update into your item/currency database? I'm not finding it with your search function. :-X

I was having some trouble doing this since it was my first time on this quest and there was no 4th location to click on any hut. Basically you choose a hut with somebody in it and you click at the N, S, E, and W on that same hut. Don't run around to the different locs stated below. Those are 3 different huts which you can pick. Pick any 1 of the 3 and then click in the 4 directions around that same hut.

Hope this helps.

edit-----> You have to click on the N, S, E, and W on EACH of the 3 huts to get all task updates

This is for both villages

Is there any point in doing this task?
# Aug 22 2008 at 2:00 AM Rating: Decent
Has anyone found a reason to do this task? It shares a timer with the much easier special delivery task. Does this give more exp or anything, do you do it just for fun, or is there a point I have missed here?

You can get both Special Delivery and Entrapment at the same time, they dont lock each other out. Daily I get the Errand for ASF (simple to do and fast) and both of these, making sure I have Reducing the Threat - Worgs as well. The 15 tiny worgs in Special Delivery count toward that task. I do the FM AFS task, then special delivery, into LP to do this one and gate back to GL. Fast, under 15-20 minutes. And thats 80 Faycitum (sp.?) a day doing this, plus an AA. If you do this, make sure you always keep the last mask you use so you can start with it the next time, saves plat.

I find the additional experience and 30 Faycitum reward enough! For those who are in need of gear upgrades, repeating this quest along with the Special Delivery and Quick Errands will net 80 Faycitum per day. Plus you are helping the Necromancers of Bertox with their research. haha

I have found that after completing the Special Delivery task, you are right at the zone line for Hills of Shade - where the "Special Favor - Entrapment" quest is done. Once you get the pattern and routes down, it can take just 15-20 minutes to complete.

Just a note to the weary traveler... Don't take off your disguise mask while you are in the Kirathas or Blackwater village! Else you may face a quick trip to bind. Lesson learned the hard way. lol

In this quest you would be trapping the spirits of the dead Kirathas and Blackwater residents. Apparently a few of the huts must be haunted by those who have passed on! The Necromancers of Bertox will be pleased when you have finished your task.

Also, you can only buy one of the masks at a time from the "mysterious stranger". When doen with either the Kirathas Village (black headdress) or the Blackwater Village metal mask you need to destroy it and get the other one. Each gave me warmly faction in the village it is for.

(All hut locations are the front door)

"Your task 'A Special Favor - Entrapment!' has been updated."
"Your trap is complete. Bertox's Chosen will be along later to 'harvest' this area. You have no doubt doomed any souls caught in your magical web to an eternity of pain."

UPDATE: You will not get the task update immediately after the fourth rune is in place, it will take about 10-15 seconds before that occurs, I just ran around the hut to make sure there were 4 runes and then waited, the task update popped a few seconds later.

Got about 33% of an AA at 80th level from this and the 30 Faycitum. The lockout begins upon acceptance of the task, not upon completion.
