Exalted Impressions  

I linked to this from the quest search for Halas.
Barbarians get Eminent Impressions (same version as humans), which is not listed on that page.
It was available to my Berserker at level 68, so I assume that quest (not this one) is the correct level 70 leg of the ancestral armor chain?

Is it safe to say this is now rendered obsolete due to the vendor in the small bank selling patterns?

Find your race's artisan NPC (list given below). Then, just as Gidono says, you begin this task by saying to them:
/say How valuable?

You receive Exalted Impression Book.

You are then given the task Exalted Impressions:
1: Kill 40 Darkroot shaman - Direwind Cliffs
2: Make impressions of the totems darkroot shaman carry. (6) - Direwind Cliffs
3: Kill 20 adult mammoth - Icefall Glacier
4: Make impressions of the molars of adult mammoths. (6) - Icefall Glacier
5: Deliver the impression book to an artisan of your race.

Note: Steps 2 and 4 update passively. The molars and totems aren't items, and the update of these stages appears to occur completely randomly. When doing this in a raid, we noticed some players got their updates fast, others slow, and with no link between their actions on the kill.

If you do NOT have Exalted Impression Book in your inventory (having it in the bank doesn't count) you won't get an update for step 2 or 4. Instead of getting an update for making a molar/totem impression you'll see the following sentence in yellow text:
You see the perfect pattern, but as you search your bags you cannot find your impression book.

Upon handing in the Exalted Impression Book, and selecting the only reward option:
You receive the Exalted Book of __________ Culture (specific to your race).
You have successfully been granted your reward for:
Exalted Impressions

To get the Exalted Book of Dark Elven Culture, this quest starts in Neriak Commons with Artisan Dosan Vis'moor. Dialogues are,

You say, 'Hail, Artisan Dosan Vis`moor'
Artisan Dosan Vis`moor says 'So Vanrau, the harsh light of the surface has finally driven you back to Neriak? Or have you returned to replace that pitiful [armor] that hangs from your sunburned frame?'
You say, 'what armor?'
Artisan Dosan Vis`moor says 'That's what I thought. Your current set looks like it fell from one of Innoruuk's zombies. If you are interested in some more eloquent designs, I have acquired some armor patterns designed by one of Lanys T'Vyl personal artisans. Never mind how I acquired them, what's important is that they can be yours, for a [price], of course. Then again, if you're interested in something even more [valuable] I might be able to help you there as well.'
You say, 'how valuable?'
Artisan Dosan Vis`moor says 'It's my understanding that this armor can be adorned with symbols to increase its potential. If you'd be willing to do me a few favors, I might consider parting with the plans for these symbols. The more dangerous my errand, the more rewarding the symbol shall be. I need to get some impressions from the body parts of certain of the lowly creatures outside Neriak. Do not ask why, it is not for you to know. You can do any of the tasks I have offered you. Take this impression book and make impressions of certain parts of critters that you slay. This magical book can make impression of objects with depth to them or just of the pattern on the surface of an object.'

You are then given a task window with which quest you want to do, of course you want to pick the Exalted Impressions task to get the Exalted Book of Dark Elven Culture.

When selecting the task, the task tells you the following.

To find the patterns that will inspire you, you will need to kill Darkroot shaman in Direwind, and adult mammoths in Icefall. The patterns you will need are totems that the Darkroot shaman imbed in their body and the shape of the molars of the adult mammoths.
