|This task is only available if you have completed another one or two of Warmarshal's tasks. If you do not see it as an option after saying "accept orders", you need to do something else first.
You will need a group to complete the task. You must repeat it from the beginning for every member in the group that needs it as the final mob only drops one turn-in piece.
Clockwork Warmarshal may be found at 163.69, -1402.57, 398.13, near the tents where you first zone in.
You say 'Hail, Clockwork Warmarshal'
Clockwork Warmarshal says 'Hello there solider. It's good to see so many Norrathians rally to help stop this menace! Since our crash and my [promotion] to the leader of the Albatross' ground forces I've been overwhelmed with necessary military action and underprovided with forces to complete those actions. I know it's unusual, especially since you are not officially enlisted for this action, but perhaps you could [accept orders] from an old clockwork and help out all of Norrath in the process? Or if you and your allies are truly brave, someone needs to make forays into those dratted [gryospires] if we're to have much of a chance getting reinforcements up here.'
You say, 'Promotion?'
Clockwork Warmarshal says 'Ah, yes, my promotion. Well, you see, Commander Hugert Tallbottom didn't survive the initial assault. In fact, he was killed when the Albatross crashed. I know it's not my place to speak poorly of gnomish engineering, especially considering that I AM gnomish engineering, but this ship was too hastily put together. Many good gnomes lost their lives before we ever had a chance to engage the enemy. We hold the lines here the best we can, but we no longer have the troops to mount an effective assault.'
You say, 'Accept orders?'
Clockwork Warmarshal says 'Ah, fantastic! I have a few things that need to be taken care of before we will be able to advance from this position and begin our assault on the fortress itself.'

2. Head up lift to first level, turn right and head down path until you meet the spy.
3. Follow spy and hail from close range. You may do this invis. Repeat hail until spy dithers then FDs.
4. Wait beside spy, after about 90 secs he jumps up and shouts, you should get a quest update. If not, restart quest.
5. Don't bother following spy, head up lift to second level, turn left and follow path to end. (Spy will eventually reappear in last hut on left)
6. Trigger the spawn of spy and 4 spiders by entering the last hut without invis.
7. Deal with spiders and any other adds.
8. Spy will be walking towards the lifts in centre of zone, follow.
9. When spy approaches the actual lifts, hail from close range until you get the quest update. If not, restart quest.
10. Head up lift to third floor and wait at base of ramp to MMM. Spy will walk past you then FD at top of ramp.
11. Two steamworks will spawn and approach MMM, kill them.
12. Spy attacks, kill.
13. Take the reward to Warmarshal. Task complete.
Once you know how, quest can be done in 10 minutes, you can restart or repeat as often as you need.
This lightweight walkthrough is based on a solo 105 mage (without bothering to use merc).
Tailor these steps to your class, level and number of group members.
I never noticed anything that can see through invis.
Make your own decisions as to where to fight and clear the potential adds.
If you miss any timings or lose the spy, just restart the quest from scratch.
For step 2: The spy will spawn when the quest initiator reaches the first level. You may wait until ready.
To be honest, I don't know if and how long it would take the spy to reappear at step 6 without forcing it. JFDI.
Thanks for all the effort that earlier generations put into solving this quest. If, like me, you are just ticking off some quests for the Achievements, then I hope my additional efforts save even more time.

- Once you get the update and next phase is "Seek the spy in the garden" you are in no hurry. Take your time, go 1 floor up up with the elevator, clear the rooms on the left if you can't handle all the mobs at once. Invis, jump into the pools one at a time until you spawn the spy with spiders again. Kill spiders, up with elevator (spy is really slow so no hurry). Camp spot loc near MMM is 1500, 15, 666, no roamers. I had to wait 5 min before the spy finally arrived to the ramp. It collapsed to the camp spot and the 2 adds started approaching, easy kills. Spy woke up and became killable. The end.

For the first update, we followed the first spy very closely when he started running screaming "FIRE!" all the way to the pool. Then we went up to the next level as posted. Well, we never got an update that way. I got rid of my quest and had him refresh his thinking that maybe it went back to a previous post where only one person at a time could do it. We tried again, and it didn't work. Instead, he hailed the spy, then right when he started running fast like heck to the pool, he ran up to the next level instead and sat in the pool there at the left side's end. THEN we got the update.

Alright, for starters, this quest is broken up into 4 seperate section. You complete each section by getting an update. They are:
1) watch for the spy to the entry of the garden. catch it before it gets to the gardens, where it may be hard to locate.
2) seek the spy in the garden. Try to find it before it gets to the mansion.
3) quickly get to the mansion doors and make sure the spy does not get inside.
4) deliver 1 spy's black box to clockwork warmarshal

Here is a map I made, which I'll be refering to: Map
Ok, so lets rundown what you should do to prepare.
Group Setup: You're going to want a good tank / healer combo (at one point in the quest you're going to have 2 mobs to tank at once). Also, you're going to want a very good puller (monk / bard / ranger). If you can't get a puller that can split, get someone that can mez. Having someone that can snare is also helpful.
Make sure that only ONE person has the quest at a time, as it can be messed up by multiple people having the quest at the same time.
Once you've got the quest and you've got your group put together, have them move to the spot marked "Have your group set up here" on my map, and you're ready to start.
-Invis up and go to the spot marked "The Spy Wanders along this red line" on my map, and find the spy.
-Hail the spy (this can be done while invis).
-Wait for the spy to stop walking, and fall down.
-stand DIRECTLY on top of the spy, and wait.
-After a minute, he will stand up, yell fire, and go running. You will get your 1st update. You DO NOT need to follow him...once you've got your update, move back to your group for the next part.
-If you did not get an update, then you need to go down and back upn the first set of elevators. Doing this will respawn the spy.
-keep trying until you get your update
-Once you're back with your group, make sure everyone is buffed and ready to fight.
-When you're ready and in position, the person that hailed the spy needs to invis up, and head to the garden labeled "This is where the spy spawns W/ 4 spiders" on my map.
-Upon entering the garden, the Spy will spawn along with 4 'A steamwork skitterer' and begin walking out of the garden, and towards the elevators.
-Go back to your group
-Have the puller begin picking off the Skitterers one by one, and bringing them to the group. The spy cannot be aggroed, so do not worry about him. *Note, you do NOT need to kill all the skitterers before the spy reaches the elevator*
-The skitterers move slowly, don't summon, are slowable, mezzable, and aren't very resistant. They're similar to trash mobs in difficulty.
-As soon as the 4th Skitterer is pulled (don't wait until it's dead) the person that hailed the spy needs to run to the elevators, and stand DIRECTLY on top of the spy. (if you're not close enough to the spy, he can despawn).
-Once the last skitterer dies, hail the spy. You should receive your 2nd update.
-If you failed to get an update, go back into the garden, and retrigger the event.
-Keep doing the event until you get your update.
-After you've gotten your update from the last section, have your entire group move to the MMM doorway. (Marked "Last encounter takes place here" on my map).
-This event is triggered by going up the elevators to the top floor.
-When you trigger the event, the spy will spawn and begin walking to the MMM doorway. You cannot stop him.
-The spy will walk up to the MMM doorway and FD. When he does this, 2 'A steamwork guardian' will spawn a ways away, and begin walking towards the MMM doorway.
-Once these 2 mobs get close to the top of the ramp, engage and kill them.
-When the last steamwork guardian dies, the spy, who was FD, becomes active and attacks your group. Kill him.
-The Spy will drop 1 'Spy's Black Box.' the person that is doing the quest need to loot this. You get your 3rd update when you loot the box.
Take the box you looted, and return it to the Clockwork Warmarshall to receive your 4th update.
I hope this little walkthrough helped.
step two, go up the next set of elevators and run all the way to the left and go into the very last room invis. 4 spiders will spawn. Back out and wait till the path out of the room. Kill all four of them. (they mezable) then run to the elevators and make sure you are uninvis and hail the spy - update!
Go up next elevator and wait at the top for the spy to spawn. The run to the doors of MMM before he gets there. he will FD again and then two steamwork guardans will begin to path up. wait till they get on the ramp and kill them both. When the last one dies, the spy will attack the group. Kill him and loot the black box. Update!
step 2: seek the spy in the garden. Try to find it before it gets to the mansion.
step 3: quickly get to the mansion doors and make sure the spy does not get inside.
step 4: deliver 1 spy's black box to clockwork warmarshal
There is also no need to hail the first spy invis. Just sit and wait where he FDs at. It takes about 1-2 minutes for him to stand back up screaming "FIRE." You must keep up with him, really close, when he takes off running, and jumps into the pool. When he does, you do it too. The mobs will immediately spawn, and they won't agro if you are still invis. Leave the room and go to the East corner and pull all the spiders that path out of the room. The spy will be heading toward the elevator, and will wait for you to hail, uninvis. Go up the elevator, and wait for him to spawn. He will not already be heading to the mansion yet. When you finally get to the mansion, he will stop and FD again. @ giant bots will be coming down the ramp toward you. Kill them. Then kill the spy and loot his quest piece. You may have 1 add pather on the ramp. 1 beefy tank, a cleric/shm/dps group.
- stay invis and follow the spy until he falls down. No need for a hail. Just wait until he gets up and shouts FIRE. You get the task update then.
- go up to 2nd level into the far left corner. To spawn the spy and the 4 'a steamwork skitterer' visit 2 more pools in other rooms. Then kill the 4 'a steamwork skitterer' and go to elevator and move up. (No need to hail again).
- run to MMM zone in and watch spy arriving. You can pull the approching guardians so u can beat one more early to death. But dont bring adds ;).
if there is no spy up, you run to quick. Go back to elevators and wait until the spy pops there, then run to MMM zone.
Maybe you can do step 1 and step 2 for more than 1 player at the same time. Then do the last step again and again (go to elevators and spawn a new spy).
