A little girl named Lucie Elron has gone missing. Her father Guard Elron, in Qeynos North, wants someone to look for her. He has already hired some citizens to search for her. It turns out she was eaten by a small gelatinous cube named Cuburt in the Qeynos Aqueducts. All now that remains of her is 'a small tattered dress'. If you find this, you may return it to either Guard Elron himself, or one of his hired men, Zamel or Endric (both found in Qeynos South).

This quest can start with any of those three people. The quest dialogue of each of the three:

Guard Elron (Qeynos North)

You say, 'Hail, Guard Elron'

Guard Elron says 'Greetings. I am sorry but I can't concentrate on my post and talk to you at the same time. Especially when I should be out searching for [Lucie].. Please excuse me.'

You say, 'Who is Lucie?'

Guard Elron says 'Lucie is my only daughter. Her mother was killed by gnolls a little over a year ago. Now Lucie is missing. Ton Firepride said he saw her playing in the south pond. I have told her a million times to stay out of the aqueducts.. She never listens.. Now I spend every free moment searching for my little girl.. If only I could find some clue to her fate.. Well, I need to get back to work. Fare well, Arctura.'

Handing in the 'a small tattered dress' to Guard Elron shows this:

Guard Elron says 'Oh dear.. no.. no.. I warned her about the aqueducts.. I warned her.. I coudn't watch her every minute of the day, could I? Oh Lucie.. Why didn't you listen to me? Here, take this. It belonged to her mother. She always said that in times of need, it gave her courage to go on.. Thank you so much for your efforts.'

Zamel (Qeynos South) (requires apprehensive Guards of Qeynos faction)

Zamel says 'Clean the [aqueducts] they tell me! Peh. I don't care how much they pay me, I am not climbing into that filth.'

You say, 'Hail, Zamel'

Zamel says 'Greetings. My name is Zamel and I have the much coveted duty of pulling sludge up out of the pools and [aqueducts] of Qeynos..'

You say, 'What aqueducts?'

Zamel says 'Aye, the aqueducts are a horrible place. I have heard rumors of horrible [beasts] who live under the city in the water and just the other day, a child playing in the water just up and disappeared!'

You say, 'What beasts?'

Zamel says 'I know nothing of what or where they may be, just rumors, friend. However, should you foolishly choose to enter the waters to brave the possibilities and return with some evidence of the [child's] fate, I would be most appreciative.'

You say, 'What child?'

Zamel says 'The daughter of one of our own guardsmen is missing. He has offered me a reward for any information about her disappearance. So, if you find out anything, let me know and I will cut you in on the reward.'

Handing in the 'a small tattered dress' to Zamel shows this:

Zamel says 'Yes. I do believe this was the child's dress. Here, take this as your share of the reward. Her father will be heartbroken...'

Endric (Qeynos South)

You say, 'What aqueducts?'
Endric says 'Aye, the aqueducts are a horrible place. I have heard rumors of horrible [beasts] who live under the city in the water and just the other day, a child playing in the water just up and disappeared!'

You say, 'what beasts?'

Endric says 'I know nothing of what or where they may be, just rumors, friend. However, should you foolishly choose to enter the waters to brave the possibilities and return with some evidence of the [child's] fate, I would be most appreciative.'

You say, 'What child's fate?'

(No response from Endric)

Handing in the 'a small tattered dress' to Endric shows this:

Endric says 'Yes. I do believe this was the child's dress. Here, take this as your share of the reward. Her father will be heartbroken..'

Ok, if I took my DE SK into the Catacombs, what would the people down there think of me? I took my human druid down there and got wasted by a spectre while trying to get to Cubert's spawn area.

Also, where EXACTLY is Zamel located, and what would my faction be with him? Failing that, is the dress tradable?

Hoping to avoid paying 60 plat for a pair of earrings. :-P

First the dress is lore and can be traded. Seconed What server are you on? I have a few pairs I would sell to you on Rallos Zek. Third How much do the Earings usualy sell for?

I don't think you should have too much trouble, the easiest way to enter is right next to the Wizard's guild or the bank, the water there has an entrance that's right near Cubert's spawn area.
Zamel is located at -400, 200 it's very close to the entrance to the catacombs I was refering to above. Basically you walk out, turn the corner walk straight and there he is, or used to be when I did the quest :)
I think the dress is LORE, NO DROP but the earrings aren't. If you're worried about guards beating you to pulp, invis would go a long way to make you do the quest, ask a wizzie friend to help :)

Good Luck!

Due to the newbie nature of the quest these items vary little from server to server in price. Price is usually around 20pp each give or take a few plat.

My Druid 14th killed 10 Cuberts over the span of an hour or so. No dresses dropped. Got bones, snake skins, and rat wiskers. I was wearing an earing already, so there's may be a connection. The NPC would give the earing for the dress about 50% of the time when I did this before.

Hmmm I don't think the quest was changed, I did it when I was a little wizard as well, camped for about 2 hours and got both the studs.
What I did do was make sure I killed off everything in sight so there was nothing to hold Cubert back from spawning.
About a month back I did the quest again with a newbie in our guild with about the same succes rate.. I'd say you had bad luck that's all..
I sincerely doubt whether already wearing one earring would have anything to do with it however.

Good Luck!

As far as the dress dropping I think it is just luck but I had trouble getting the earings. I always seem to get a gem or something. Is it my faction. The guy is less that indiffernt to me. Could this be a problem or doesn't faction make a difference.

Yeah, don't get lost. I've been wiped out by a Spectre down there before I ran into turning a corner. The Necro/SK guild is down there and they're really pissy about intruders.
Not nerfed.

I played for about an hour 1/2 and fought 7 cuberts and I recieved 1 robe and pased it in and I recieved the earing on the first try. And i have a question about how much does the earing set sell for?
RE: Not nerfed.
# Dec 09 2000 at 1:10 PM Rating: Default
They don't sell for much...about 1gp and some small change. You be better off giving/selling it to a caster.

This quest is great! The distance between the start of the quest and the end of the quest has got to be the shortest in the game! If I had the patience, I'd do this quest for days! It's easy if you can stand killing rats for hours to get Cubert to spawn.
Earings.

just to keep people posted i killed about 5 cobarts got 1 dress and traded it in for a hemlate. and 1 question: Is the earing no drop? I know there is a high need for int stuff in FP and I was wondering if I could sell it?

Clear up some confusion
# Nov 05 2000 at 10:43 PM Rating: Good
Yes, Zamel is sitting right across the bridge next to the bank. You may be KoS to him, though I don't know what the general attitude towards gnome necros is with his faction. But guards (mainly good ones) wander through that area quite a bit, so if you are KoS you'd better watch out.

Also just a side note to clear up some confusion:

There is a spawn point on a red patch of ground (above water) right next to where the frogloks are sitting underwater (very close to the bank entrance). The exact loc has been given in this thread I believe. Kill anything that spanws there (rats, mangy rats, gelat cubes, etc) and _only_ the stuff that spawns there (killing other stuff is not necessary at all). The spawn is quite fast, make sure you can either cut the MOBs down quicly or root, as they will run around the corner and jump in the water (next to the exit up to the bank). If cubert does this he may suicide (with your dress on him!!) so make sure you've got that covered.

All of the estimates for cubert spawns are pretty irrelevant (I've seen him spawn, literally, 5 times in a row [I have a picture of 5 cubert corpses on the ground if you don't believe me =)], or as much as 2 hours apart. He just has a flat % chance to come up each time something spawns there, it's all about luck.). Point being, there is no hard and fast number system you can rely on. I would say that the robe would be classified as an uncommon drop as it isn't garaunteed, but also isn't rare.

As for turning the dress into Zamel, sometimes you get hematite. I've done this quest many many times ever since the game came out (All my new characters usually do this quest, it's a great way to make money) and Zamel simply just gives you one or the other. I've had streaks of studs, as well as dry spells where it seemed all he had was hematite. A bunch of my friends do this quest exactly as I've laid out here, and it's worked the same for them. I don't believe having a pet vs not having a pet, or faction standing, or race plays into it at all.

Just keep at it, you'll get your studs =)

RE: No Luck
# Oct 21 2000 at 2:05 PM Rating: Default
Just Keep at Cubert, it will drop eventually. I was able to do this for full set of the studs for me and my partner. 15 sounds like just bad luck on the drops cause it was around 1 in 5 for me and the dress just looks like a worn out robe.

I Had Trouble Getting Cubert To Spawn , Killed Everything In SIte And Nothing , I Believe But I Am Not Sure That Having A PET Affects The Kills - Anyone Have Anyother Ideas ??
Now more luck
# Mar 27 2001 at 1:03 AM Rating: Default
No having the pet is fine. All you need to kill is the sewer rat, the G.Bone(the jelly like bone), the maggit Rat, and of course the Cuburt. These are the place holders for Cuburt.

Just stay by the spawn area and have the earth pet kill it. It can root, so it won't ran off into the water.

Don't kill the beggers, they give you bad factions.

I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.
Dark Elfs?
# Oct 09 2000 at 6:30 AM Rating: Default
I was wondering why this quest is listed for Necromancers, because it doesn't seem that Dark Elfs can do this quest. Anyone?
RE: Dark Elfs?
# Oct 13 2000 at 5:32 PM Rating: Default
Its listed for Necros because Necros love INT items just like any other pure casters. DEs can definately do this quest - you just need enough Qeynos faction.

For example, my 12 necro has been hunting in BlackBurrow since level 7, and he has been amiable to merchants since level 10, and indifferent to the guards since level 9. :)

I actually get better prices at some shops (Eru Necro) than a couple high elves I know :)

Greetings,

As of Sep 27 2K, this quest will still get you studs. Between three people we killed Cubert about 10-12 times and got 2 studs. The 8th Dwarf Warrior got one first try, my 9th Gnome Enchanter got one on the last try, and our 12th Human Monk friend only got Hematite like we all did when we didn't get the studs. THe Monk got Turquoise of a few of the cubes, and I got group xp for some of the GCubes, so watch out lowbies. We noticed Mangy and Sewer Rats in the spawn spot as well as the regular GCubes, and Large and Giant rats all about. There was also a wandering beggar, a few large snakes, and fish and Frogloks in the water. I would bring something or someone who can root, as this ability was indispensable in keeping the placeholders from running off. They'll dive for the water first chance they get at about 25% life. Also, the dress was a lore item, so we had to make trips. All in all very worth the camp, as we plan on stocking up on earrings for the trip back to Kelethin ). Lastly, you may wind up targeting NPC pets from the next level down, so watch out with Color Flux or any of the other Area effect spells. It didn't happen to us, but I've heard there can be problems with monsters attacing you from beneath . . .

I did this quest at level 16 killed cubert 10 times got 6 dresses then got 3 earrings. Tried again today at level 20 and helped a lvl 5 necro when he came down. We killed cubert 17 times, got 3 dresses and no earrings. Talk about a waste of time. Cubert kept spawning after himself too, at one point he popped 3 times in a row then nothing for a very long time. I wonder if my con to Zamel has anything to do with lack of earrings? I used illusion human and benevolence and got ... considers you..looks like a reasonably safe opponent. It didn't actually show what his attitude was after I boosted it from amiable. Was a good quest but now I'm not so sure.
Real Easy
# Sep 05 2000 at 3:54 PM Rating: Default
I got 3 studs with about 8 dresses. Just find the spawn sight and use earth pet to root, if you sit close enough Cuburt will attack you and you just have to keep waiting for the small tattered dress to drop. I am lvl 16 so i binded down there and after i gave dress to Zamel i just gated back. Usually empty so no problem to camp. Good Luck.

I've tried this quest both with a human character from Qeynos and my Barbarian. Zamel is amiable to both yet I only got hematite with the Barbarian (twice) but I got the earring three times in a row with the human.

Gotten the earring with a erudite, human and dwarf. Never tried with a barb, but I saw barbs selling these once though. Probably just got lucky the day you played the human.

After reading about this quest I decided to give it a shot... I killed Cuburt three times and got the dress twice and got the earings from Zamel both times. As soon as I entered the area just under where the bank bridge would be, I surfaced and was pleased to see Cuburt staring me in the face. Just for the record Zamel is warm to me and I'm a nerco... Might have something to do with it... or I might be lucky... Either way, this quest kicks butt and if your a pure caster you can't afford to pass this one up!!!
Exact spawn loc
# Aug 21 2000 at 9:40 PM Rating: Decent
The spawn is at location: 128, -63, -38

Go down at the water by Zamel, straight down then forward after you zone, up and out of the water onto ledge on the right, and do /loc at the stains on the floor to find the right one. Placeholders are sewer rats, gelatinous cubes, and mangy rats, it is a very quick re-spawn.

Kid Iccarus was just lucky, I think. I was amiable to Zamel, and it still took me 12 dresses to get 2 earrings. Dresses dropped from Cubert about one in three or four times (so I probably killed Cubert 40 times, and killed hundreds of placeholders), and what spawns seems to be completely random. Took me about 4-5 hours to get two earrings. Persistence pays off.

I just did this quest last night. 24 Aug 2000 and recieved the earring first time I handed in the dress. Cuburt took like 15 spawns of rats/snakes/other misc creatures before he spawned. Then spawned after every 3-4 times. Took 3 kills to get the dress from him.

Most Fun I've Had Questing
# Aug 01 2000 at 1:11 PM Rating: Good
I loved this quest. As a magician, I could easily solo Cuburt and the other placeholders at only level 5. The spawn rate is insanely fast, so it's very lively. Not only did I get +3INT earrings, items that will serve this character well into her 20s or 30s, but I levelled to 8 doing it (then almost everything went green). Very rare to be able to camp something both for xp and items you want in my experience.

BTW, it's Sewer Rat, MANGY Rat, Gelatinous Cube, Cuburt. And the Gelatinous cube that killed the lvl 14 guy is a different spawn in a different part of the sewer. Enter the sewer in the pond next to Zamel and you're practically on top of the Cuburt spawn point, but get a good map that has it marked.
RE: Most Fun I've Had Questing (total agreement)
# Oct 15 2000 at 3:52 PM Rating: Default
Yup, agreeing on this one. I also levelled my wizard past some levels (6-8) doing this quest, and getting earrings at the same time. Was a LOT easier with my magician tho, as a wizard level 6 you barely have time to re-med your mana, and you _have_ to make root stick, or cuburt will haul his gelatinous behind into the water and kill himself.

My advice to magicians level 4: Get an earth pet and some kind of 2hb staff (to do just a little damage), and you will earn xp faster than anything, while also having the chance of getting this very nice earring. Cuburt won't be moving an inch with your pet constantly rooting him.

Qeynos catacombs is, imho a very nice area to xp in, since it is so rarely crowded.

Plus I have seen these earrings sell for 60 plat a pair.... that is quite a bit of pocket change for something off a _very_ low level mob.
Have fun! - and remember, patience is the key. Took me 7 hours camp to get 2 earrings :)

I have been doing this quest with my wizard for about two weeks of real time now, and Ive gotten the dress and given it to Zamel 20-30 times. I have NEVER gotten a stud from him. He cons amiable to me, but never a stud, just the hemitate. Someone told me that pure casters cannot do it, is that true?
RE: No studs...
# Dec 22 2000 at 5:38 PM Rating: Default
Surely not... Done this quest alot. And while Cubert and Zamel don't cooperate often to get the stud, I assure you Wizards can. Gotten 2 from him. Sold 1 for 50 plat to get enough for the Stein of Moggok, and got the other first try after returning to Qeynos. :-)

Have yet to get another afer hours of camp though.. *sigh*
Hand it in also for...

My friend and I decided to go to the Qeynos Aquaducts one day to do this quest. She turned it into Zamel to get a Golden Ear stud, where I heard another way to do it. If you go back to North Qeynos and right by the gates, there are two doors, one to the left, one to the right. Go in to one on the RIGHT (this is if you are facing the Qeynos Hills Zone) and go up the stairs. to the right of the stairs, there is a guard. hail him, and he will tell you about his daughter missing. give him her dress and recieve a Golden Locket with 5 Charges of courage...I wouldnt reccomend doing it this way, but if you already have 2 golden ear studs, this locket will be a nice item to have when you need a hp increase.

This quest is much easier if you have an earth elemental pet to help you out. It casts root preventing the rats and stuff from running away from you. Much faster.
