A little girl named Lucie Elron has gone missing. Her father Guard Elron, in Qeynos North, wants someone to look for her. He has already hired some citizens to search for her. It turns out she was eaten by a small gelatinous cube named Cuburt in the Qeynos Aqueducts. All now that remains of her is 'a small tattered dress'. If you find this, you may return it to either Guard Elron himself, or one of his hired men, Zamel or Endric (both found in Qeynos South).

This quest can start with any of those three people. The quest dialogue of each of the three:

Guard Elron (Qeynos North)

You say, 'Hail, Guard Elron'

Guard Elron says 'Greetings. I am sorry but I can't concentrate on my post and talk to you at the same time. Especially when I should be out searching for [Lucie].. Please excuse me.'

You say, 'Who is Lucie?'

Guard Elron says 'Lucie is my only daughter. Her mother was killed by gnolls a little over a year ago. Now Lucie is missing. Ton Firepride said he saw her playing in the south pond. I have told her a million times to stay out of the aqueducts.. She never listens.. Now I spend every free moment searching for my little girl.. If only I could find some clue to her fate.. Well, I need to get back to work. Fare well, Arctura.'

Handing in the 'a small tattered dress' to Guard Elron shows this:

Guard Elron says 'Oh dear.. no.. no.. I warned her about the aqueducts.. I warned her.. I coudn't watch her every minute of the day, could I? Oh Lucie.. Why didn't you listen to me? Here, take this. It belonged to her mother. She always said that in times of need, it gave her courage to go on.. Thank you so much for your efforts.'

Zamel (Qeynos South) (requires apprehensive Guards of Qeynos faction)

Zamel says 'Clean the [aqueducts] they tell me! Peh. I don't care how much they pay me, I am not climbing into that filth.'

You say, 'Hail, Zamel'

Zamel says 'Greetings. My name is Zamel and I have the much coveted duty of pulling sludge up out of the pools and [aqueducts] of Qeynos..'

You say, 'What aqueducts?'

Zamel says 'Aye, the aqueducts are a horrible place. I have heard rumors of horrible [beasts] who live under the city in the water and just the other day, a child playing in the water just up and disappeared!'

You say, 'What beasts?'

Zamel says 'I know nothing of what or where they may be, just rumors, friend. However, should you foolishly choose to enter the waters to brave the possibilities and return with some evidence of the [child's] fate, I would be most appreciative.'

You say, 'What child?'

Zamel says 'The daughter of one of our own guardsmen is missing. He has offered me a reward for any information about her disappearance. So, if you find out anything, let me know and I will cut you in on the reward.'

Handing in the 'a small tattered dress' to Zamel shows this:

Zamel says 'Yes. I do believe this was the child's dress. Here, take this as your share of the reward. Her father will be heartbroken...'

You say, 'What aqueducts?'
Endric says 'Aye, the aqueducts are a horrible place. I have heard rumors of horrible [beasts] who live under the city in the water and just the other day, a child playing in the water just up and disappeared!'

You say, 'what beasts?'

Endric says 'I know nothing of what or where they may be, just rumors, friend. However, should you foolishly choose to enter the waters to brave the possibilities and return with some evidence of the [child's] fate, I would be most appreciative.'

You say, 'What child's fate?'

(No response from Endric)

Handing in the 'a small tattered dress' to Endric shows this:

Endric says 'Yes. I do believe this was the child's dress. Here, take this as your share of the reward. Her father will be heartbroken..'

Cuburt Stats
# Jun 12 2001 at 10:25 AM Rating: Good
Here are the details of my kills for this quest:

Cuburt 9 (12%)
Cube 31 (43%)
Sewer Rat 19 (26%)
Mangy Rat 14 (19%)

Out of the 9 Cuburts, I got 3 dresses, 2 of which yielded the +3 Int earring.

At one point, I was only tracking Cuburts, so the total Cuburt yields are:

16 Cuburts
4 dresses
2 earrings

I've been doing this quest recently to get the earings and would just like to say that even though you may be getting frustrated over the drop rate of the dress, keep at it cuz it's just around the corner =D
My question is this: since ive done this quest i've noticed that my faction with the Qeynos Guards has gone through the roof, i'm now considered as an ally to all of them, however i noticed that your faction with the Corupt Guards goes down each time you hand in a dress. Is it possible to become KOS with the Corrupt Guards if i continue to do this quest? I really like Qeynos, and i dont think that would be good. Thanks!

There are several corrupt guards located near the docks, fortunately these guards are around level 10-15 so they won't become aggrevated with higher levels.

Yes it would be possible to be KOS to those guards. I've had my faction ruined with them lot's of times and I go through Qeynos lot's of times and I've yet to see a corrupt guard. One place I do know of that you'll want to stay away from if you're faction with them is low, is one of the towers in WK. If you zone in from Qeynos hills and take the first right the path let's you, the second tower you come to has corrupt guards. So watch out for them, other than that I don't know where they are.

Well, I've been camping this thing for roughly the last two days and the dress drop rate is way lower than most of these posts say. I guess I've killed Cuburt about 20-25 times and gotten a total of 5 dresses. Out of those five, I got an earring once and four hematites. Seems like it's taking a lot longer than most people say and I am aimable to Zamel... O well, back down below I go I guess.
Quest tips and tricks

I did this quest yesterday with my RL friend. We went down, a lvl 5 Enchanter and lvl 5 Wizzie. 5 Hours later we stopped. Both lvl 7 and with 4 pieces of +3 Earrings.

The trick to this quest is to find the right spot and kill all the placeholders. We timed the Spawn point and it spawns every 20 seconds. Eeeek. That means that after you kill Cubert or the placeholder you have 20 seconds before another monster will appear on that same spot. All in all, very hectic action. Good news is that only a fraction of them will aggro on you.

The placeholder spawns are:
Sewer Rat
Mangy Rat
Gelatinous Cube

Dont be fooled by the giant rats that sometimes sit on the spawn point. They are not placeholders.

A tip is to sit on the other side of the spawn point facing the spawn point. That way you can keep track on which spawn is up, and if you are high level enough or is a caster with a pet, just sit and med. The Mangy rats and Cubert will attack you, the Gelatinous Cube and Sewer Rats will not.

Another tip is to start out by rooting the sewer rats. The sewer rats have an exit route that runs from spawnpoint towards exit to SQ. I lost many pets until we came up with this strategy.

Be aware that whether its Cubert or a Placeholder that spawns is completely random. We several times had 2 Cuberts spawn with a 20 sec interval, and one time we even had 3 Cuberts in a row.

Final words. The next spawn will NOT be up until you kill the placeholder. So if you dont kill the placeholder be ready for quite alot of time spent doing nothing :)

LOCS for important points: (On the map of Qeynos Aqueducts from EQATLAS)

Cubert spawnpoint (120, -75)
Suggested Camping Site: (160, -75)
Place where rats jump in water and swim towards exit F: (220, -90)
Safe med point: (180, -25)

Good luck and happy hunting to you all.
Earring

I don't think any of these things affect the rate of the dress dropping. I've killed beggars before and the only thing that happened was that they quickly became apprehensive towards me. I'm a 15 warrior that's doing this quest to get the earring to sell. I get cubert to spawn maybe once every 10-15 minutes. He drops the dress nearly 80% of the time for me. When I first did this quest I conned dubious to him at first, but I still got earring when I gave him the dress. Later when i got up to indifferent, same thing. I never got a hematite.

Ok, here's what happened to me, draw your own conclusions. I wanted the earrings for my DE wiz, so I made a brand new warrior, untwinked unfortunately, leveled him up to 4 in about 2-3 hours, and then went to the aqueducts. First time I saw Cubert, he killed me, ugh. Went back but by the time I got back, somebody else had killed him and left. Killed a few more placeholders and he spawned again, killed him this time in a really close battle, got the dress went up to zamel got the earring. About 3 hours had passed since character creation, and I'm like...this quest ROCKS. I head back down to get the second earring and die a handful of times to cube placeholders (they were like level 6 I think). I get back after one death, and there is another guy camping the spot, so we figure since we're both low we'll team up. We're killing placeholders, and then this guy goes...this beggar is asking for it...against my better judgement we kill it and then lose faction. By this time I'm level 5 or so. We then camp the area for the next couple of hours kill about 15 cuberts, no dress. Then we get back to back cubert spawns both with dresses, so we each get one and go to zamel. I got a hematite, and his faction was too low to complete the quest, but not to lose the dress, of course. I then went back down alone and got one more dress, and another hematite. I then camped for another 3 hours or so, and didn't get a single dress in about 10-15 more cubert kills.

I camped Cubert for 10 hours, killed him 15+ times, got 6 dresses total and, of course, 6 hematites. That Zamel is a chintzy SOB.

I did get to level up from 5 to 8 killing Cubes, and I ran over to the Nesting Rat for the +3 CHA necklace so it wasn't a total loss. Goin' back tonight to try again...

One thing though, I spent a lot of time in the sewers with different charactres, and I noticed that since the plague started in the Karanas, the Blood Sabers have been moving out from their usual haunts (pun intended). I ran into necros and skellies in places I NEVER saw them before.

The details

M'Kay, here's the lowdown...

Cuburt spawns at 130, -60. He has 3 different place holders: A Sewer Rat, A Mangy Rat, and A Gelatinous Cube. You don't have to kill anything else to get Cuburt to spawn. All 3 place holders follow the same path that Cuburt does. Only the Mangy Rat aggros. The first time I got the dress, after the 5th or 6th kill, I only got a hematite...2 kills later, I got another dress and received the earring (yeah!). This is GREAT xp for lvls 5 to 7 or maybe even 8...I went from 5 to 7 in about 6 hrs of intense camping. The only problem was that at lvl 5, some of the Gelatinous Cubes (yellow ones) were quite difficult to kill and you gotta kill 'em to get Cuburt to spawn.

Good luck and happy hunting :)

Cuburt is ok, but Zamel is a tool.

I spent the better part of 2 nights camping Cuburt and got upwards of 8+ dresses. It seemed every time I turned them in that tool Zamel would give me a Hematite. Any idea why I got so much Hematite?

# Apr 13 2001 at 10:16 PM Rating: Default
Make sure that you do not hurt any beggars at ALL. Even if you do not kill and they just drown, I think it affects it somewhat. My husband accidentally hit a beggar, and zoned to avoid killing it, but the beggar drowned. There weren't any faction notifications, but everytime he turned in the dress, he got hematite. Another guy that camped with me did the same thing, turned the dress in 17 times and only got the earring once. I NEVER hit a beggar at all, turned in two dresses and got two earrings. This is only a theory of mine, but I would be extremely cautious of beggars (NO area spells!) if you are doing this quest.

Ok, my Dark Elf chanter needd some int gear so I decided to do this. I just got lvl 6 so I went into the catacombs, nothing conned over white, few things were green and alot of things were blue. One of those beggar guyz said "Might I have some coppers please?" so I tossed him a few. Then I proceded to camp cuburt. I killed everything that spawned, (btw I was right by the South Qeynos by the bank entr) I killed everything but this stupid snake cause everyone else says not to kill anyhting else. I decided finalyl to kill the stupid thing and about 10 seconds afterwords Cuburt spawned, he was blue but fought more like an even. He droped the dress so I was pretty happy. I took it back to Zamel afraid he'd give the Thanks msg since he was dubious. INstead he gave me the earring. I did it all in 10 mins tops. Went down there again, gave a beggar some copper and did it all over again and it worked again. Beggars are kewl.

This elusive stud will sell to most catsers (player char) at 20-25pp each up to 60pp for the set.

The hard part is getting your lvl 5 char somewhere like WC to sell it and live to reap your reward.
Aqueduct level caps misc info
# Apr 01 2001 at 10:34 PM Rating: Default
I have leveled a few characters in the sewers, great spot if you dont like to group and die alot in BB. There are several items to be had in this zone such as the alligator earrings, limestone rings, lockets etc.. each and every one of those are lvl capped.

The npc required will not spawn no matter how many small aligators or fish or large rats you kill. Its reasonable to assume that at some point the dress will become a rare drop for your level/class combo.

I camped cuburt with my 8th wiz and no loot or dress at all ever. Camped with my 5th warrior got a dress almost every time. 5th Necro got bones and snake skin. Camped with my wifes 4-5 druid and she gets the dress and the stud every time as well.

My point is that I believe there is more to this than simple random spawn and drop rates. I think it only seems random because of the variety of classes and levels being played.

RE: Aqueduct level caps misc info
# Apr 29 2001 at 1:58 PM Rating: Default
This information is incorrect. What items a mob will drop is generated at spawn time and does not factor in players that are in the area. What Cubert drops *IS* random, and does not factor in the levels/classes of anyone in the area. A level 30 wizard has the same chance of getting Cubert to drop the earrings as a level 5 monk. What Zimel gives as a reward for the dress, however, might not be totally random, but that's a different story.

The only level cap on drops when a mob is killed is in The Warrens, and that works differently than this.
RE: Aqueduct level caps misc info
# Jul 26 2001 at 12:33 PM Rating: Default
This is the first I've heard of the Cuburt quest, but I'm a ranger doing my Trueshot Longbow quest and I need Micro Servos off of Rogue Clockworks. I'm level 17 and these con green to me. I get about 1 Micro Servo for every 10-15 Clockworks I kill. Everyone else that is hunting in that area, levels 23-15, say they drop the Micro Servos like mad. So I think it 'might' have something to do with level, although probably not race or class.

Is it ok to kill of the beggars too?
# Mar 29 2001 at 9:46 AM Rating: Decent
I was just curious because I was down there and a bunch of beggars spawned. I don't know if they interfere with the spawning of Cubert. But I don't want to take a faction loss for killing the beggars either.

I guess if no one knows I can try it and see.

Level 5 Erudite Mage on Tallon
Very easy. All i did was swim down into sewers in the pool by the bank which is also by Zamel. When I zoned I went left and up again. Was right by Cubert spawn like the description said. Killed a rat then Cubert spawned. Cubert was kind of hard even though he was blue but got the tatterd dress. I just "hail"-ed Zamel and gave him the dress. Got Golden ear stud right away. And he was all but KOS to me. Very easy.
Only thing is as soon as i killed Cubert he respawned and killed me because he is aggro. But at level 5 you don't lose exp so no worries. :p

Well..I tried this quest for a couple of days and just got fed up! I was killed by a Big Rat and almost killed by a Spectre! You would think that as a Level 37 Enchantress that I would have done better..but noooo.....
I thought that the extra 2 points of WIZ that I could get would be easy, but I just wound up with a bunch of Silver and some Faction. Blah! I'll get my WIZ jewlery the way that I was ment to! I'll make it myself!

I'm wondering what an enchanter wants with wiz (I'm guessing wisdom) and where you got 2 points since the Golden Ear Stud is 3 *Intelligence* and the closest Jeweler made items would be a 2int/4str earring or a 4int/2str earring. I'm also wondering how you ran into a spectre and a rat that can take down a level 37 looking for Cubert since you just find Zamel, jump in the water next to him, swim down the hole, take a left and follow the right wall (or take a right and follow the left wall, it all goes in a circle) and start killing stuff, the high level mobs like spectres are on the other side of the sewers. The part I like the most is where the enchanter says, "I just wound up with...some faction. blah!"

P.S. before someone makes a comment about trade skills, they are based on the higher of your intelligence or wisdom, or at least thats what verant's official statement said. <sarcasm> Maybe if you want to do better at trade skills you should wait till a tuesday game time and then open the book on how to make items of that trade and then press sense heading till it succeds 3 times in a row before you practice. </sarcasm>

I know where she ran into that spectre. If you go to where the mercenary that drops the cloak is (nearby), I have seen both the spectre and the Necromancer in that area on occasion. They conned indifferent to me, so I left them alone. By the way, Ditzianna's a tool, too, but she definitely has the appropriate first name...

Like a good little boy, I did my research, got quest related mapping of the aquaducts, exact spawn coordinates, read about the place holders, have amiable faction with Zamel, got the dress in rather short order, did the role playing with Zamel, recieved 2 silver, :( ! Since then, with my lvl 9 druid, I've spent several hardly-no-exp-gaining hours killing 40+ cuberts and getting rat, snake, and skeleton parts. If anyone has ANY ideas, please please chime in.

Dude, the only tip I can give you is, stick with it. That sucks, but I found something very similar happening to me. I found out about this quest late in life (my char is 15) but +3 int is still kinda nice, and I was in SQ anyway, so I decided, sounds easy, I'll give it a shot. Well, by the time I was regretting not just buying a similar item, I had spend enough time on the quest that I was never gonna let it go. So, I killed cubert 9 times. Each time there was a good 10-15 minutes of killing PH's in between, except for a couple random times when he would spawn back to back. Then I got my first dress. Got malachite in return. Then, (didn't know about the enterance right next to Zamel, and was going in right next to bank, which makes it much more confusing.), got lost and ended up getting killed by a stupid necro. Got killed again by a spectre trying to drag my corpse out of enemy territory. Man, there is some evil stuff in some places down there. Anyway, got a handle on all that stuff, end up killing cubert probably around 50 times and turning in 6 dresses before I got the damn stud. Got a few malachite, and sometimes got nothing at all besides negligable exp and faction. Just stick to it...

GREAT newbie quest for Magic-users! I received both earrings from Zamel within a few hours. Sometimes Cuburt will spawn 2-3 times in a row, and the it might beanother 20 minutes. You need to kill everything near the spawn site to increase the spawn rate. Of course, Cuburt doesn't always drop the dress, and (also) many times Zamel will give you a Hematite or something else in lieu of the earrings - but don't get discouraged. The earrings are a nice Intel boost until you find something better for your two ear slots.

I am sitting there camping Cuburt right now. I have been camping him for about an hour and a half. I get the dress on 1 out of every 4 Cuburts, somtimes 5. He commonly spawns twice in a row. I have gotten 2 earings now, one out of every 3-4 dresses. This seems to be a faction thing, as another char I had done this quest with got it every 2 of 3 and had higher faction. However, this is not level dependent. This character is a 25th Druid, the other was a 13 enc. I need 2 more earings which I hope to get yet tonight.

The only problem I find is that quite often is that if he gives the dress, he will spawn one or two spawns later if you keep up with it... Its nice to have a partner there while doing the quest.

Also, you can always tell what the place holder spawns are, they all make the same path. Watch the spawns, and then you will know whats what when you go back for another dress.
Spawn & Drop Rates
# Feb 25 2001 at 6:00 AM Rating: Decent
OK - I spent an hour (exactly... I kept track) camping the Cubert spawn spot and kept track of the spawn rates. This is an hour of actual camping and fighting time - and doesn't count porting back to SQey to exchange the Tattered Dresses:

In the 60 minutes of fighting the 4 different creatures spawned at the following rates:

Cubert - 16 times
A Gelatinous Cube - 33 times
A Mangy Rat - 24 times
A Sewer Rat - 36 times

Now then - in the 16 times Cubert spawned, he dropped 4 dresses.

I had to kill Cubert 9 times to get the first dress, 3 to get the next, 3 for the next, and 1 for the last.

When I traded the dresses to Zamer (whoever), he gave me 3 ear studs & 1 Hematite. Each time I hailed hime and talked hime through the quest story before giving him the dress.

So - do with that what you will.

Drop Rate
# Feb 22 2001 at 2:38 AM Rating: Default
Hi.

I've done this quest many, many times with several different characters. I won't repeat what others have said about how to do it.. it works. I've experienced drop rates like this: Cubert spawns randomly after you kill his placeholders, there is no pattern (I've had him spawn 3 or 4 times in a row before). He drops the dress about one in three times. Zamel gives you the earring about two thirds of the time.

I've done this quest so many damn times these ratios should be fairly accurate.
RE: Drop Rate
# Feb 22 2001 at 2:48 AM Rating: Default
This is same poster as above, too lazy to register. Cubert will spawn *way* slower if you don't kill the placeholders (sewer rats and jello cubes which have the same pathing route as well as a mangy rat which gets sidetracked since it will attack the beggars and other rats). Killing the jello cube placeholder might be a little hard for a level 4.

There are assorted other newbie monsters here.. spiderlings, large rats, bats, giant rats, that have no effect on cubert spawning... dont waste your mana rooting these guys. If I have a partner down there with me we usually take turns killing the placeholders, while the other guy searches for netted from the 3 frogloks that spawn nearby.. helps kill boredom and will make the newbie monk you give them too happy.

I tried this quest yesterday. The very first time I killed Cubert, I got the dress. The very first time I turned the dress in to Zamel, I got the stud. Figuring this was a fluke, I went back down. Cubert was waiting for me (I didn't have to kill any rats or anything first). Killed him, got the dress again. Turned the dress into Zamel, got the stud. The next time I went down Cubert dropped a bunch of miscellaneous things (snake scales, bone chips, etc.) but finally dropped the dress (about the eighth or ninth time I killed him). Turned the dress into Zamel, got the stud. Reading the other threads, I'd say that I'm very lucky, but I think if anyone sticks with it they can do this too. (BTW, I'm a level 13 Enchanter - agnostic - who cons indifferent to Zamel, so I don't think faction has anything to do with this.)
2nd try

My name's Arkytz, just haven't found out how to log in yet.

There's a guy, Endrin or something like that, who may also give something. I overheard him asking about aqueducts, so ask "what aqueducts" and if he responds you know it's the guy. No idea what he gives though.

Hope that helps.

I think Verant should change the consistency of this quest. I read on these posts, that people go in and get the dress on the first try. I spent 5 hours down there killed about 25 Cuberts, but to no avail(not a single dress. Im still a little perturbed about wasting half a day down there.

My level 16 magician got the dress and the earring on the first try yesterday, and my wizard had gotten it on the first try a couple months ago

I agree, I'm sat there right now and have killed about 20 Cuberts. Still no dress.

I'm wondering if there is a lvl limit on this quest.
