This quest begins with Capt Linarius in North Karana (on the bridge to South Karana).
You say, 'Hail, Capt Linarius' Capt Linarius says 'Hail, traveler! You are free to rest within this keep or within any of my towers along the roads to Qeynos. My guards shall keep watch over you. While you tread upon the roads, be warned that there are [local dangers] as well as rumors of [corrupt guards].' You say, 'What local dangers?' Capt Linarius says 'My guards report daily to me of dangers in the plains. Lately, they've been telling me of rumors of [Lord Grimrot].' You say, 'Who is Lord Grimrot?' Capt Linarius says 'My guards have heard rumors of this Lord Grimrot. It is said that he is a powerful shadowknight who is raising an army of undead. Such things should be reported to the Temple of Life. Journey to Qeynos and speak with Camlend Serbold. Tell him of Lord Grimrot.' Do as Linarius says, and journey to Qeynos. Camlend is inside the priest guild in North Qeynos. You say, 'Hail, Camlend Serbold' Camlend Serbold says 'I say, good to meet you, Sephira! I am Camlend Serbold. Some call me Serbold the Great. I am the leader of the righteous order of paladins which serves the Temple of Life. Together with the clerics of this temple, we defend the will of the great [Rodcet Nife] and smite all who dare to oppose us.' You say, 'I like Rodcet Nife, he's a nice guy' Camlend Serbold says 'Do you feel your heart beating within your chest!!? It is Rodcet Nife, the Prime Healer, whose breath keeps it in perfect rhythm. If you do not pray to His glory then I assure you, someday when your heart begins to slow, you shall be crying out loud to Rodcet Nife.' You say, 'Who is Lord Grimrot?' Camlend Serbold says 'You have heard of Lord Grimrot? He is a shadowknight working with the Bloodsabers. We have word he is trying to build an army of undead. Only a powerful knight can rid the lands of Grimrot. So, did you come here to [defend life]?' You say, 'I came here to defend life.' Camlend Serbold says 'Then go to the Plains of Karana. Somewhere there, Lord Grimrot is hatching his little plan for the Bloodsabers. Bring me his evil scythe and his heart. It is said that upon his death, his soul will be absorbed into this weapon of darkness. Do this and be rewarded.' Camlend Serbold says 'We must have both Lord Grimrot's scythe, Pestilence,and his misshapen heart.' Go to South Karana. Not far from the end of the bridge is an undead camp. Lord Grimrot's placeholder is the only putrid skeleton that is standing. It always carries a cute little rusty bastard sword. Respawn is approximately 180-220 minutes. The live version only spawns during the day, and drops two Pestilence Scythes. The one with the proc is the one you need to turn-in. The undead version only spawns at night, and drops the Decaying Heart. Slaying the undead version of Lord Grimrot gives you the following faction hits, Bloodsabers -200 Guards of Qeynos +30 Opal Dark Briar - 20 Priests of Life +50 Corrupt Qeynos Guards -10 Turn in both these items: Camlend Serbold says 'We thank you for your service. With Lord Grimrot's evil soul trapped in this scythe, all but the truly evil shadowknights would be able to wield it. I would like to present you with this as a token of our appreciation. Your devotion to life is supreme. Go now, and serve life.' Your faction standing with Priests of Life has been adjusted by 5 Your faction standing with Knights of Thunder has been adjusted by 1 Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos has been adjusted by 2 Your faction standing with Bloodsabers has been adjusted by -1 Your faction standing with Antonius Bayle has been adjusted by 1 You gain experience!! Hate to bust everyone's bubble. I camped live grimrot for countless hours, I got frustrated and petitioned a GM. Guess what he said? "The Live form of Lord grimrot is a TRIGGERED spawn." Yep, that's it. Probly explains why we don't see him much anymore. The undead is random still, but the live will only appear when it is triggered. Anyone know what the trigger is?

A better idea if you are going to use this item in your back slot, would be to go with the white dragonscale cloak, sure its much more expensive, but killing Vox and getting the scale is easyer than killing both forms of Grimrot cause he never spawns!

Okies we've seen grim at least 4 times camping there the WHOLE two weeks... we've been KSED from all 4 four of them... Tarew Marr has a lot of SCREWED up players in South Karana so who ever is camping becareful... This quest has given me and my friends a HUGE headache.
GM were'nr much help either.... they had to witness the ks for them to do anything =P ick.... sorry if i sound really bitter but please please note this if you are on that server.

Wish is was the same on my server Advocate. I see the undead form 10 times and the live one 0.

Bah the spawn is too rare i seen the undead spawn more often than the live one =( kinda disappointing to sit for a full 16hrs waiting for the freaking live one to pop after 6 undeads repops, killed and despawn. =(

The live version of Grimrot is now indeed much more common than his undead form. I have seen his live form appear 12 to 1 over the undead form in South Karana over the last few weeks.

I understand the amount of faction you need has been changed to just the amount you need to get the quest as of a recent patch. The live version is now more common, but the undead version is rarer (!)

The Aegris of Life may be used as a shield, but it can also be worn in the back slot as well. This is very good for Clerics esspecially because they can use a Charred Guardian Shield and this for a total of +19 Wisdom.

The live version of Grimrot is an uber rare spawn. The dead version is very common. The estimated time is way off - I have spent just shy of 40 hours so far with no live version showing. This is one painful quest.

After putting in many hours of camping Grimrot, I've only seen the Undead form of Grimrot appear. I started camping hm after the patch to 'fix' his spawns, and Living Lord Grimrot has only spawned once on Luclin since then, right after the patch came out, and he was let despawn, and hasn't been seen since.
