This is a grand task in that each of its steps is updated by completing a sub-task. This task can be obtained as early as Level 65.
It is obtained by hailing Valthun Woodswatcher in the Kirathas camp of the Hills of Shade. You are also automatically assigned the first sub-task in the series, 'Seeking Amber'. Actually, it's a charm aug, not an actual charm. Charm augs are fantastically rare and this is arguably the best.
Wayfarers charm augment is significantly better.
Are you kidding? The Wayfarers Brotherhood Emblem only has 10 more hp/mana/end and has 5 less AC. None of the other stats are anywhere close significant, because you should be capped on them all by now anyway. And it's arguably harder to get than Valthun's Memory Shard, because of the significantly large number of LDoN missions you have to complete for each theme. That makes makes them close to even for a charm slot aug (unless you're a tank or melee, in which case the 5 AC difference makes Valthun's significantly better).
this is half of the requirement to do the scorn raid (every rose has its thorns)
