Do this only for faction.if you dont need the faction dont do this its not worth ruining faction with the ring of scale for a few gp's.

Delivering mail to Highpass is recommend for higher levels. Best if you do the other cities.

imo just do the Surefall to Qeynos mail quest. I'm a 13th level ranger and it is barely possible for me to do this quest (maybe I'm just not experienced in the game enough *shrug*).

This is the route...
South Qeynos -> North Qeynos -> Qeynos Hills -> West Karana -> North Karana -> East Karana -> Highpass -> Highhold Keep

Keep in mind West Karana is insanely long with bandits on the roads and off them. Also North Karana and East Karana have many agressive monsters including hill giants (which I've learned first hand will slaughter you while you stand inside a house haggling with a merchant). And when you make it through that you still have a very long walk from the entrance to the pass from Karana and the actual zoning point, with the possibility of falling off a very big cliff. When you finally zone to Highpass you'll find a group of high level gnolls blocking your way. I zoned in and was immediately confronted by a gnoll spellcaster which conned yellow to me that seemed to just have killed someone else, he proceeded to root me and cast various other nasty spells on me in addition to doing at one point 30 dmg in a hit (my ac being a little under 400). I tracked many other yellow and red conning gnolls before I just gave up and zoned out. The whole eastern area of this mission is pretty dangerous and there are few guards or players to help you (there were about 6-8 players in north karana, east karana, and highpass combined when I tried this).

Or for the same reward you could go...
Surefall Glade -> Qeynos Hills -> North Qeynos -> South Qeynos

This takes about as much time as tracking across West Karana alone as well as there being only one real fighting zone there of which the creatures on the road (the well patrolled road btw) are likely no higher than 5th level and certainly non-agressive.

Perhaps a high level character might do this mission for fun, or a character with spells to keep them hidden or escape (highpass mission is too long for a single sow to last even one way), but for low level characters seeking actual cash benefit on a mission they will live through...go the other route.

ps. did I mention the amount of zoning the highpass quest requires?

Where to deliver it
# Jul 11 2001 at 6:26 PM Rating: Decent
When you are told to deliver it to high keep, is that the same thing as highpass hold or somewhere else? someone please tell me i don't want to waste my time
RE: Where to deliver it
# Sep 12 2001 at 1:51 PM Rating: Decent
Its different. Once you zone in and run down the stairs there will be a woman board close to the stairs going up.
Way easier!

Don't know if it's just since the patch but if you talk to Jusean Evanesque to the left of the guild hall, and mention watch reports he'll ask you to bring him the watch reports from a couple of other bards. Anehan Treol is at the door to the docks. Take him the report and bring back his response. You don't even have to zone for this quest. I got a few gold at each end plus the same faction hits listed for this quest. Great and simple little quest.
Great for anyone (well, good races)

Your in Freeport and decide you will try your luck hunting in Highpass Hold...Your in CT dungeon headed back to Freeport...Your in Kelethin and you need to go take the boat to Freeport or vice versa...

We all travel in this game and if your going to head somewhere anyhow why not earn a few gp and some bard faction, it's always handy having at least one vendor in a city who will give you decent prices.
Great for Enchanter
# Dec 22 2000 at 5:27 PM Rating: Decent
This is a great quest for a level 4 enchanter. Use your invisible, get some maps, and head off to Highkeep. Be carefull of skeletons and other undead because the can see through your invisibility. I had a blast doing this one, the gold and exp are probably not worth the time spent doing it. But before you head out to see the world around you (and them not seeing you), get a letter.
How do you this?
# Dec 02 2000 at 10:45 AM Rating: Default
How do you do this quest? According to Allakhazam, there is nothing to show how to do this quest? Someone please shed some light?

You will see solitary bards in a lot of places in the world. Many of them have mail that they want delivered to major cities. If you hail them, they will ask if you are [interested] in delivering some mail for them. If you say "I am interested", they will say something like they have a letter that they want you to [deliver] to [freeport] or some other city. Sometimes they have pouches, sometimes they have letters. You say "I will deliver to Freeport" (or whatever city they want mail to go to), and they'll hand you a pouch or a letter to deliver to that location, and tell you who to deliver it to (usually someone in the bard guild).

Aside from the solitary bards scattered throughout the planet (at least the pre-Kunark sections) there are also bards in the bard guilds in the main cities that want you do deliver pouches of mail to other major cities. Some of these bards have more than one pouch to deliver to different places.

Places that I know of that have bards that want mail delivered:
Freeport
Nektulos
Innothule
Feerrott
Rivervale
Qeynos
Surefall
Highkeep
Kelethin
Kaladim
Felwithe

I'm sure that there are other bards out there that I'm forgetting, or never found.

Also, one more thing to note, In Freeport and Qeynos (and maybe Kelethin, I don't recall for sure there), letters to that city go to one NPC in the bard guild, but pouches to that city go to another bard in the guild. The pouches will go to the same NPC that wants you to deliver pouches of mail to other cities.

I think one NPC in one city hands you either a pouch or letter and tells you to take it to the wrong NPC in the destination city. This was definitely a bug in there a long time ago, but it may have been fixed by now. If you learn which NPCs accept the pouches, and which NPCs accept the letters, though, then you don't need to worry about where you were told to take the mail, you can just deliver it to the right person. Each pouch or letter says which city it goes to in the item name, so there's no problem having a bunch of mail to be delivered later just sitting in your bank.
Not for the faint of heart

Highpass Hold is tough I've heard. I wouldn't know, as I never got there - at level 10 I died on my way through North Karana. I would rate this quest for a slightly higher level than is suggested - perhaps 15-20 if Highpass is the destination. Lower level characters, steer clear.
Begins in S Qeynos

Eve Marsinger and the Bard's Guild are in South Qeynos not North.
Why "Not So Good"
# Jul 15 2000 at 12:01 PM Rating: Decent
I was 5 when I made the delivery and it was absolute hell running through West Karana at level 5. And when I did find the farm to deliver the message she only gave me 6 copper. Ouch!
Not so bad
# Feb 04 2001 at 10:30 PM Rating: Default
This isn't worth doing if you're going to repeat
it over and over to level. On the other hand,
if you're going that direction anyway, a short
stop is worth it. Also: the more often you do
it and the further you deliver, the more xp and
money you get.
