This is a sub-task performed as part of completing "Jarvis #2: The Green Fairie".

Have ya ever tried [absinthe]?' You say, 'What is absinthe?' Your task 'The Green Fairie' has been updated. Old Scheffer says 'Don't got anymore. I drank that down weeks ago to warm my bones on a cold night. The taste still lingers on my tongue. Or the memory of it, anyway. I'd try to make some more if we had the fixings for it. Let's see, it was anise, fennel, grande wormwood, and water.' You have been assigned the task 'Absent Absinthe'. Collect 1 Anise(s) 0/1 (Hills of Shade) Collect 1 Fennel(s) 0/1 (Hills of Shade) Collect 1 Grand Wormwood(s) 0/1 (Hills of Shade) The above three Shaded items drop from rotcap sporali in the Hills of Shade (southeastern part of the zone). Collect 1 Water Flask(s) 0/1 (Hills of Shade) This step seems to update no matter how or where you obtain the water. Deliver 1 Anise to Old Scheffer 0/1 (Hills of Shade) Deliver 1 Fennel to Old Scheffer 0/1 (Hills of Shade) Deliver 1 Grand Wormwood to Old Scheffer 0/1 (Hills of Shade) Deliver 1 Water Flask to Old Scheffer 0/1 (Hills of Shade) On each delivery... Old Scheffer says 'Ah yes that'll do nicely. Do you have the other ingredients?' Speak with Old Scheffer 0/1 (Hills of Shade) You say, 'Hail, Old Scheffer' You helped Old Scheffer brew up a bottle of absinthe. Perhaps Fendel would be interested in a drink. Old Scheffer says 'That's exactly what the doctor ordered. Hee ha! It'll take some time to squeeze out the final product. I'll snitch a little for meself for my troubles, and you're welcome to the rest. There we go! Nothing like a little of the green fairy now, is there?' Shifty Jenkins is a merchant. He sells the water flasks, as well as other things.
I've not done this task and don't intend to, but given the drops I've seen from the shrooms I'm sure the items the task refer to are:
Shaded Wormwood
Shaded Fennel
Shaded Anise
Shaded Wormwood
Shaded Fennel
Shaded Anise

Aye, the task now asks for these 3 items + 1 water flask
You can't do this before you have the quest you won't get the update have to do it once you have "the green fairy"

Umm, I havent tried this yet but.... why wouldnt fennel you can buy from several different vendors work?
Also, Grand Wormwood needs an E at the end (grandE)

Because I don't think that buying fennel from a vendor would update the Collect 1 Fennel(s) 0/1 Hills of Shade task stage...
The items for this quest are pre-lootable. However, you have to have the items in your inventory when you get the quest for the steps to update that way. If they're in your bank, those steps won't update, I had to drop the quest and get it again to get to the point I could turn in.

i must of been lucky got 1 of each drop in 13 kills of shrooms, dropped off random deathspores
Fennel dropped from a rotcap feeder today, they can be found in the mines. Not sure if the other shrooms drop it. Hope this helps alittle bit.

The drops for this sub-quest are pretty rare. We spent 12 straight hours killing deathspores and not one fennel. Hope this helps.
