Find Shrub Marwood in the eastern hideout of the Firiona Vie outpost.

Upon completing the Dark Oak quest, Shrub states:

Shrub Marwood tosses the mantrap root out the window.. SPLASH!! 'I made a mistake. I didn't need that one. Here is the shillelagh I told you about. I found it in some burned out woods far from here. I cleaned it up and found it had a spark of mana so I had it enchanted with a few charges of my spell, [Fertile Crop]. Hope you like it.

You say, 'fertile crop?'

Shrub Marwood says 'Looking to get hold of my family druid spell, ehh? It doesn't come without a price. Lucky for you all I need is for you to run a small errand for me. Go fetch me a Sarnak farsight crystal, some Sarnak nightdust, some strathebone heal silk and some powder of Tsu. Do that and I will give you a copy of my family secret.'

Bring him these items:

- Sarnak Farsight Crystal (Sarnak Revealers in Lake of Ill Omen)
- Pouch of Dust (lore "Sarnak Night Dust", Sarnak Partisans in Frontier Mountains)
- Strathebone Silk (strathebone spiders in Kaesora)
- Shaman Powder (lore "Powder of Tsu", Froglok Tsu Shamans in Swamp of No Hope and Firiona Vie)

Turn these four items in to Shrub Marwood.

Shrub Marwood says 'Great work! I wish I had the coin to hire you on permanently. Maybe I will, when I find the lost trade city of Torsis. Here is the spell I copied for you. Careful, the ink is still drying.'

This is ridiculous. I hate to say I have the spell, decided to try out the abilities and it says ( FOR EVERYTHING PLANT LIFE ) This creature is too high a level for this spell...CONSISTANT RESISTS !!!!!!! Please give us something of use. I respect the fact you give us an ability that nobody else can use, but to make it so WE DRUIDS CAN'T EITHER ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!? WHAT A WASTE OF SPACE AND TIME.

The dust you need off of the tsu shaman also drops off of the NOK shaman, i just got it in FV after killing these TSU's for a good hour...

I may be wrong on this one... they both drop "Shaman Dust", but one pile is white, the other is black... I wish they were more specific in naming these.

Try having it identified...

And to stave of the obligitory "But it's no-drop!" answer- Hold it on yer cursor and have a friend cast it on you...

I forgot to mention this in my post, but I have discovered a few things:

The Pouch of Dust does NOT drop off the Sarnak Partisans in The Overthere.

The Shaman Powder does NOT drop off the Froglok Tsu Shamans in Lower Guk.

You can see where I got the components on my post below, and I can't gurantee the mobs in other zones will drop it, but I have heard from many people the Tsu Shamans in Teeth drop it as well so it sounds reasonable.

I have completed this quest yesterday. Notice the Powder of Tsu that comes off the Froglok Tsu Shamans in Firiona Vie is actually called Shaman Powder. It is the same so don't be afraid to give it to the halfling :)

I got the Farsight Crystal off the Sarnaks in Lake of Ill Omen. It's not NoDrop so you can buy it for couple of pps from the people there, as vendors won't pay them nothing for it.

The Pouch of Dust (aka Sarnak Night Dust) I got off a Partisan near the Iksar Statue in Frontier Mountains, location is about -200,1200. Note that this place is on a mountain and is rather close to the Giant Fort, so it was a very risky camp, as almost every minute a mob aggroed on me, whether it was a Giant, a Burynai or a Brute. Also, when I first came there were no partisans around the statue, so needed to clear their camp for one to spawn. The first one I killed had it, so I could take off that horrible zone to Lake of Ill Omen :)

The Healer Silk is indeed off Strathbone Healer in Kaesora. I killed about three before it dropped. It looks like an ordinary Spider Silk, so don't accidently destroy it or give it to someone else :) A wizard helped me pull them to the entrance with his Eye, so it was pretty easy. I assume camping in their spawn is not too horrible either.

Note that the Shaman Powder also came off the third Tsu Shaman I killed, so don't give up. The area of the Tsu Shamans in Firiona Vie is also very risky, as it is packed with some Froglok Knights, Guk style, that can see through invis and camo. I suggest camping near the zone to Swamp of No Hope and then kiting them towards that direction, or pulling them there if you have a group.

The Partisans, Tsu Shamans and Strathbone Healers were all Blue to me at level 36.

After getting all components, you need to hand them to the Halfling in the hut near the small dock just behind the Bank in Firiona Vie outpost. He will hand you a scroll called Fertile Crop, and once you scribe it into your book it will change its name to Beguile Plants.
I have tried using that spell on a cactus in The Overthere, and I was not too impressed as the blue to me cactus resisted it three times. Haven't tried it since then, so I can't really say whether it's worth the effort. Anyway, I just like to have all my spells in the book :)

To the guy that tried to charm Treants - I think it's reasonable to assume that this spell has a duration much like the charm animal spells, so that means if you try it on a Treant you will either have to kill it or run to zone after it expires. Killing a treant will hurt your faction horribly with the Druids of Norrath, and will disable you from teleporting or being teleported to any Druid ring with Druids around it, such as West Commons, East Karana or North Karana. Therefore I strongly recommend against it.
RE: Beguile Plants
# Sep 12 2001 at 12:09 AM Rating: Decent
As far as killing treants and the druid rings go, I believe the WC druids are on different faction. Reason I say this is because my agnostic DE wiz is KOS to the Karana druids but not the commons ones.
RE: Beguile Plants
# Dec 10 2001 at 3:47 AM Rating: Default
I think the NPC's around the WC druid ring are actually rangers, they drop arrows. Don't know for sure, but there are no "a druid"'s around the WC ring.
RE: Beguile Plants
# Jul 22 2001 at 1:25 AM Rating: Default
It does work on Treants, but the spell doesn have a level limit. It will charm the treants in EK, for example, but not the one at the druid ring in NK. When it wears off just recharm if you aren't ready to zone :)

I just did this quest the other day and I must say it is an awesome spell. The only thing that came to mind is with the current creatures in Norrath is it good for much. The BIG one I was wanting to use it on was Treants. A druid with a Treant for a pet would be AWESOME! However I tried it several times on treants. It never gave me a message saying it was wrong type of creature to cast it on, however I would get a message saying the NPC's lvl is too high for this spell. I am not sure if it means the spell itself, or my lvl. I am lvl 40 so I can't imagine that. If this is true other than a few random scattered zones this cool spell is pretty much worthless.

I happened upon the revealer while going after the chancellor, so I figured I would complete this quest just for the faction, exp, and the hope that I could give the spell to a druid friend. Unfortunately, the scroll is NO DROP.

Other info bits:

The Partisan does not drop the dust every time, it dropped on the second one I killed. Same thing with the Tsu shaman, the powder dropped on the second one I killed, in Firona Vie.

The quest is fairly simple to do, and yields a god awful spell. I only used it once, and to my dismay had the hcarm spell break in a matter of seconds. The healer silk is an ultra common drop off strathbone healers in KAesora (located in the field of bone near the Warsiliks woods zone) The tsu shaman powder is dropped of froglok tsu shamans in Trakanons Teeth (common drop as well) The puch of sarnak dust is always dropped by sarnak partisans in the frontier mountains. (There is a camp of 4 sarnaks near the Burning woods zone) Lastly the sarnak farsight ctrystal drops off sarnak revelers in the Lake of Ill Omen in the Sarnak fort. (it is NOT the gem of yet to come, that is for the monks shackle of scale quest). Take all 4 of these items, turn them into shrub marwood in FV, and presto you have your crappy spell. (not worth the time or effort) Even with Velious, there are no new plants to charm. Its easier to do the dark oak shillegh quest and use the staff's 5 charges of beguile plants instead of trying to get this spell. Good Luck if you want it though. It's easy to get, and hey might impress the ladies. :)

I did the quest at 49. Only took a day, NP. I tried casting it on an Ellrosi Maneater (something like that) in the Emerald Jungle, it said the plant was too high for this spell to charm it.. Don't expect to be charming anything high, blue to you, or anything high green.

once you get the piece of paper from the halfling have any of you tried to scribe it since that is actually the spell :)
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 2:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill.
Froglok Tsu Shamans
# Sep 27 2000 at 9:56 AM Rating: Default
It's been previously stated that any Tsu shaman is dropping the shaman dust (Firiona Vie, Swamp of No Hope, Traks Teeth, etc). Don't know if it was nerfed recently, but it's definitely not dropping off of Tsu Shamans in Firiona Vie. I'll try Traks Teeth and report back, but there's at least one confirmed report of it dropping in TT here.

A lvl 35 grouped with either a tank, ench or bard could probably blow through this quest pretty quickly and easily, but at 29, every mob required would be red (not to mention the places you have to hunt you'd end up with adds agro'd on you and your group).
RE: Froglok Tsu Shamans
# Nov 18 2000 at 9:58 AM Rating: Default
Yes it is definatly dropped in TT I went there with friends to get an OS key and one of these little froggies jumped me. He dropped shaman powder which I am guessing is the same thing since it is Lore and I got it off of a Froglok Tsu Shaman

I'm guessing Verant has fixed the quest now as the healing silk dropped almost immediately off the healing spiders in kaesora for me. The farsight crystal came off a Sarnak Revealer in the Chancellor's room, but it was about 3 hours of camping before he spawned. I found the Sarnak Nightdust off the very first Partisan I killed at the fort at -2200, 1500 in FM. I was able to get the Powder of Tsu off the first Froglock Tsu Shaman we tracked down in TT.

All in all I don't see how even a well oiled group of 29's could do this.

Few details for everyone:

Farsight Crystal - Sarnak Reveler's - I ended up just buying it off someone for 100pp. (Lake of Ill Omen - Sarnak Fortress)

Sarnak Night Dusk - easiest way to get this is to goto Frontier Mtns, find a Sarnak camp and kill them until a Partisan spawns and drops a "Pouch of Dust"

Strathebone Healer Silk - Kaesora, comes off the Healer Spiders. Just remember to tell your tanks you need it, would hate to have one use it....
Its called "Strathbone Silk" - Tank used the first one to heal himself with :)

Powder of Tsu - Froglok Tsu Shaman - Trakanon, Firiona Vie, other Kunark Zones. "Shaman Powder" - the white stuff

Quest took me about 12 hours to do. With what I know now I could do it in 4-6 hours. Only thing that is really very hard about it is the spider, and only because they tend to gang up on you.

It's worth a pixel of exp at lvl 51. Which given how fast exp moves at that level its not bad.

I don't think I will ever use the spell for much of anything besides messing around, but then again that holds true for most of our charming line spells. With the mob coming back and killing you its usually not worth it to use them.

Got the healer silk today off the second stratebone healer i killed in Kaesora.
Went to FV and completed the quest and the spell is NO DROP so no use trying to do it for any druids who could possibly benefit from it. At 52 its more or less useless. <sigh>
Almost 4 months waiting for this quest...

RE: Healer silk in the game now
# Oct 18 2000 at 11:38 PM Rating: Default
The lost trade city is likely to be the City of Mist. while fighting in City of Mist we killed the captain of the guard and he had an ancient coin for a bard quest, when identified it was called Torsis Ton.

seems a reasonable leap in logic to me
Loopi is just that...
# Aug 09 2000 at 11:12 AM Rating: Default
Loopi is one of those ppl that just has to add some pointless thought that usually makes others intelligence drop just from reading it he has no idea where another "strathebone healer silk" drops I mean think about it, this whole quest is stupid. Level 29 spell and close to a 35+ quest those spiders need 3-6 ppl in a group to kill them at about 35. This is a 29 level spell not 35+ I'm a level 51 druid and after trying this quest for over 1 month have given up, its not worth stressing over, only 3 zones that the spell is worth anything anyway... "The Overthere, Emerald Jungle, and Trak's Teeth". Another thing, if there is this supposed "Other" spider why doesn't all the lvl 50+ guilds with druids NOT have this spell...something to think about.

Spent alot of time killing spiders and no silk. My guess is the tump stump that the spiders drop should be this silk as the tump stump makes no sense what so ever on the healers. I suggest everyone file a bug on this.

Tump Stumps are Lore + Nodrop off of Mountain Giants in the Fronteir Mountains, found them lots of times off of the ones in the fort (-22, -1637). But the quest no longer says anything about stumps, so I'm assuming that was what was originally asked for in the quest before they realized that there was a bug with it or something.

Well after ruining my overthere faction several times over to help my spouse complete this quest, I must say it was a complete disappointment and aggravation to find the original information about the Healer silk incorrect. The 2nd tump stump for the shilaleigh is on the Strathbone healer, but NEVER a healer silk. Maybe after this 20 hour patch job?

We have lived in Kaesorea for weeks getting EXP and great loot. I would say we have killed 1,000 spiders or more and not one healer silk has droped; they all say *silk* so i believe it must be else were or this part of the Quest is broken.
