    This task is given by Wraithguard Warden Hrosigar at location -1500, +1220, +85 in Valdeholm.

    Wraithguard Warden Hrosigar says 'Be quick about your business. The Shades constantly test our [defenses].'

    You say, 'defenses?'

    Wraithguard Warden Hrosigar says 'Our defenses are few and far between. Either volunteer to help or leave and take your distractions with you.'

    You have been assigned the task 'Warning Signs'.

    The wraiths have constructed several scrying crystals around the crypt and leading to the path up to the city. They can magically see through crystals and know when our war parties approach. Take this Shade ward rune and use it on the shadowcrystals around the entrance to Frostcrypt. That should block their divination magic!

    Give the expired Shadow Ward Rune to Wraithguard Warden Hrosigar

    You are given "Shadow Ward Rune", a 10-charge item that casts "Incantation of Shadow Warding". Target the crystals in the canyon near the Icefall zone-in and cast the spell.

    Obviously, you will need to watch out for the many oozes and spiders in the area.

    On clicking...


    The Shade scrying crystal evaporates into a cloud of steam.

    "an animate shard" has a random chance to spawn when the crystal is clicked.

    A magical power surges from the crystal and its shards refirm into a mockery of the humanoid form.

    You still get a task update when this happens. The shards can hit for 2000 and summon.

    After clicking 10 crystals, return to Hrosigar and hand in the Shadow Ward Rune.


    With the totems reconstructed the Wraithguard should start receiving advanced warning if the Shade attacks once again.

    I was able to get this quest at level 65 after doing just 2 Armor Supply quests (8 Icefall Grizzly Pelts).

    The Shadow Ward Rune is required lv 70 to click though...

    I was amiable when I got this task and doing it shot me STRAIGHT to ally. I thought omg that can't be right but sure enough.... Excellent faction task. And fairly easy too.

    Remember when you do it that they immediately summon the crystal-clicker when you click it - each golem spawns at 95% life for that purpose. I really suggest waiting until the mobs path somewhat away from the crystals before clicking.

    I did this solo with my wizard - I got lucky. Only two golems spawned where usually three is the magic number. I used both instant-cast port AAs to avoid death. Another trick you could use is buying a Vial of Swirling Smoke from alchemy vendors. They cost 1k but are instant-cast gate potions. Some might find it easier (and cheaper) to just die summon go back and click more but the vials are probably faster hehe... and less dangerous. Note that if you use the potion method, vendors that sell those potions only have a limited stock of 10 and they're lore, and when they're sold out, they won't have more until a zone crash or server reset. A lot of vendors have stocks of them though. Use Allas to look up the item for a vendor listing - if you don't have a Premium account, people listed some locations in the comments.

    If an Animated Shard pops FD after stun subsides, then have pet attack and cast Levant.
    This assumes you have pet hold and the faster FD aa, otherwise those lil shard guys HURT!!

    i just did this solo as a 80 berserker and it finished off my FC faction woot ally.

    just agro one at a time and train them to a zoneline either fc or icefall and when they get close to you click if it pops a mob either train it or kill it not too hard at all.

    16.3khp 2.9kac unbuffed but since killing them isnt needed can just train them out specially if you agro another mob like i did 2x :)

    Today I said 'defenses' and he responded by saying what is in the quest text above. But no quest window. I was dubious to him at the time.

    THat's because you need to be apprehensive to get the quest. Try killing bears for pelts to build your faction than request it again.

    Call of the Hero does not appear to clear aggro for this quest. At first I thought it might have to do with the CoH landing after a summons since these mobs spawn damaged and hence are capable of summoning instantly. But the problem persists even if a toon is within melee range when they click. The mob warps to wherever the quester was CoH'd to, and the mage casting the CoH spell gets aggro as well.

    Nasty little quest...

    Best way to do this fast and safe is to duo with an evac class. Approach a crystal with both toons (invisd) and have the evacer start to cast group evac. Then do the click. If the mob spawns allow the evac to complete. If not, interrupt, re-invis and move on to another crystal.

    You gotta time it right since the spawned mobs hit fast and hard. My wiz buffs to 13.5k and by the time the druid evac got off she was usually at 30-40% health.

    Mage was near the zone-in. Distance was more than adequate to avoid proximity aggro.

    i soloed this quest as a 75 necro . the animated shard popped twice and killed me both times . ran back each time and finished quest .then got rezzed.it's not a hard quest if you're willing to die for a melee clicky .. as a necro i dont melee ,but i love clickies . when activated and i melee i get about 3000damage overall out of it ,at lvl 75 i get 400 damage each time it goes off and i crit on it at least twice .

    The rune has ten charges, and cannot be recharged.

    If you mess up and lose a charge, you need another rune.

    You must drop the task and get a new task to get another rune.

    HOWEVER, you can request the task, get a rune, drop the task, and get another rune. Then you only have to turn in a used up rune after you've clicked 10 shards successfully.

    (found out the hard way, had accidentially used a charge, then clicked 5 shards, and discoverd I was one charge short, had to drop the task and lost credit for those 5 shards)

    Forget using FD. I dont know if its a bug or intended. However the adds that spawn randomly WILL run at you WHILE FD. They will camp you for a few, then warp back to their spawn point. Only to run at you over and over.

    On the 3rd, 7th and 10th crystal an_animate_shard popped, white or yellow to 75, 2k melee, and they pop at 94% so they summon.

    As an CoA level paladin I was able to solo them by using a full mana bar.

    an animate shard popped on the very first crystal for me and camped me where I FD'd after blazing 4 machine gun hits on me each for 1.8k, so perhaps they pop randomly.
    I gave up the task after the first one as a solo task, to much effort for to little reward as I was only attempting it for the faction.
    It's much easier to do the ivory task for faction, heck even the bear pelt was less risk vs. reward.

    this last's for 1 min 30 sec with max AA buff ext. With a 43 min recast timer is seems kinda useless but is a repeatable quest for Wraithguard leadership faction. Just destroy the one you have in inventory to recieve the task reward .
