    This solo task begins with Sorcerer Xycl at location +5, -100, +8 (the port-in room) in Katta Castrum.

    You say, 'Hail, Sorcerer Xycl'

    Sorcerer Xycl says 'Good day _____. Have you come to be a [patron] on Katta Castrum?'

    You say, 'A patron?'

    Sorcerer Xycl says 'Yes. We have need of enterprising individuals that can help us against those opposed to the empire. With the help of patron we can wrest control of the habitats back from those within. Might you be interested in giving [assistance]?'

    You say, 'I will give you some assistance'

    Sorcerer Xycl says 'Very good. We have various tasks for you to complete in [Thalassius]. All of them will require some combat prowess on your part, and you may want some friends of similar ability with you. Are you ready to choose your [task]?'

    You say, 'Tell me about Thalassius'

    Sorcerer Xycl says 'Ah. That is one of the habitats. In it we kept the kedge. That choice lead to one of our greatest disasters and the very reason that Katta Castrum is underwater. It seems that Prexus did not appreciate our [interactions] with the Kedge.'

    You say, 'Interactions?'

    Sorcerer Xycl says 'Um yes. Well. We were just trying to find a cure for Tsaph Katta, but Prexus seemed to think what we were doing bordered on torture. We of course had no such intent, but that misunderstanding lead to the actions that Prexus took against us. We have since made a law that forbids any more experimentation on the Kedge.'

    You say, 'What task?'

    Sorcerer Xycl says 'Return to me when you are victorious.'

    You are offered five tasks, one of which is 'The Incursion'.

    You have been assigned the task 'The Incursion'.

    Search the library within Thalassius for artifacts. I have given you an aura that is undetectable to anything but the containers that hold the artifacts. As you get really close to the containers it will allow you to grab the artifacts. Unfortunately the artifacts are extremely sensitive to teleportation magic and if you leave the zone in any way, or even die, it will cause the artifact to become unstable. While I want you to try and bring me all nine artifacts, I will be happy if you bring me at least six. Also, I expect that each artifact will have a personal guardian that you will have to deal with and nothing will deceive them for long. Be very careful with this, and you will likely need the help of others to complete this. Additionally, kill some of the kedge to teach them to stay away from the artifacts.

    Each Ancient Combine Artifact you collect causes an artifact guardian to spawn.

    Kill 20 kedge to keep them away from the artifacts (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)
    Go to the teleport spires. Do not leave Thalassius
    Speak with Sorcerer Xycl after he teleports into Thalassius.

    While on this task, we found out that Call of the Hero is ok. Also, if you have a fellowship camp setup in the zone, you may use it as long as you are in the zone. Both of these helped us so I though it would be good to share the info.

    had the misfortune of camping during quest, will still get updates after you log back in...In my case I collected one more artifact and headed for rondezvous with Xcyl near zone out...he did pop, I got updates for each of the nine artifacts, but then he said something like "the artifacts become unstable and return to their cases, please collect them again" and I was SOL and time at that point

    An Artifact Guardian is a related creature.

    Basically, you walk up to a display case and one of the artifacts will pop onto your cursor and a Guardian may or may not spawn.

    The artifacts can be seen lying inside the display case if no one has "collected" them up. They respawn in 5 to 10 minutes.

    Also, you cannot zone or succor or die. If you do, you have to start over. In short, once you have them all, you have to run back to the zone line to see Xycl.

    However, if you have collected all nine artifacts and still have at least six in your inventory, you are okay.

    VI> Finishing the Task
    A> If you lost some of your items you need to either get a new task OR get all the remaining pieces and hail Xycl.
    B> Hailing Xycl WITHOUT all pieces will reset all parts of teh tasks where the artifact disappeared. So you can continue with the parts you do have.
    C> Hailing with all parts in hand finishes the task.
    D> Sometimes if you zoned and your item wasnt destroyed you will get a line of text that says "An artifact falls apart into dust as you hand it to Sorcerer Xycl." If this happens dont panic, if you had all the other ones when this happend the last part will be completed successfully, but you will have to get the one that was destroyed again. When you do the task will complete and give a reward screen. If you do not have all of them on the hand in and some are destroyed you just lose them and start over.

    OK, here's what happened to me...
    Our group looted all the pieces. We were told by a member in the group that you CANNOT succor back to zone - you had to run. So we ran. I caught a see invis about 20 feet from the zone in and pulled one heck of a train onto my group, basically wiping us. (yes. i feel like an idiot, thanks, but wasn't my fault the SI poped on top of me at the wrong moment).

    My druid DA popped and I hailed the guy. Or I THOUGHT I did. I guess it only updated the part where I go back to the zone in. So thinking I did everything I had to do and trying to dump aggro, I camped out with my DA on...sort of. At the very last second, DA dropped and I was killed.

    Upon running back and looting body, I found that Xycl had despawned and I hadn't spoken with him as per quest. However, all the rest of the quest is done.

    Should I drop the quest and restart form beginning, or can I do the speaking to Xycl from someone else's individual task? Looting all that stuff was a PITA due to respawn timers. I'd rather not go through that again.
