Pirate Smythe is located at about -1500, 3415 on the island of Jardel's Hook in the Buried Sea.

    You say, 'Hail, Pirate Smythe'

Pirate Smythe says 'You there! You will help me finish my [maps], or me sword will be finding yer gullet!'

You say, 'I'll help you finish your maps'

Pirate Smythe says 'Aye, ye scurvy-riddled landlubber! There be one thing a pirate o' quality like meself needs more than all else -- maps of the sea. Ye can't be expected to get anywhere if yer not knowin' where the reefs be now can ye? Now, I've got me a start on the charts o' this area but there be [more] I'm needin'.'

    You say, 'What more?'

Pirate Smythe says 'More? Ye daft grog-snarfin' swine! Didn't I just say me maps weren't complete? I need ye to fetch me the maps o' other ships for me. Blimey! I can tell I be needin' ta lay things out step by bloody step for ye. Ye see there's this island called [Maiden's Grave], 'member?'

    You say, 'Maiden's Grave?'

Pirate Smythe says 'Har har, ye lily-livered swine! That island be lived on by them scrappy sirens, aye. More than a few swabbies been lost to the barnacled rocks on that isle. That why she be called the Maiden's Grave! Them no-good buckos hear that sweet siren song and forget the only lady that means a thing. That's right, their ship! Blimey! No real sailor would forget! Now listen up ye pox-faced rat -- them lost ships no longer need of their charts, aye? I want ye to buck up and [retrieve] 'em for me.'

You say, 'I will retrieve 'em for you'

Pirate Smythe says 'Aye yer darn right yer off to retrieve 'em for me. Now get yer lazy, rotten bones outta me sight and check the waters 'round that island!'

You have been assigned the task 'Uncovered Treasure'.

Pirate Smythe has heard about the numerous shipwrecks around Maiden's Grave and has figured out a way to use them to his advantage. Travel to Maiden's Grave and collect as many sea charts from the wreckage in the water as you can.

Loot 4 Bundle of Sea Charts 0/4 The Buried Sea
Deliver 4 Bundle of Sea Charts to Pirate Smythe 0/4 The Buried Sea

These charts will help refine Smythe's own charts. He should have the most detailed maps of the sea in short order if he continues obtaining charts of the sunken ships.

Brell's map pack has the locations documented.

It seemed to be that only 2 spawn at any given time. I've swam around the island many times now and only ever find 2. After I find those 2, I never find any again. When I walk away for a bit and come back, I can find 2 more but that's it.

Randomly spawn one at a time at 18 or so locations. I had them marked once then foolishly downloaded new map pack. If anyone gets a semi complete set of locations it would be nice to send it to mapfiend.

It is indeed random spawn of the chests containing the maps.

I did this way: swimming around the isle with invis and view to the water near the horizon - I found on each round one chest on a random spawn point under water near the isle. Beware on the east side there is a siren mob under water near the ship wreck - not seeing through invis :)

So forget all given locations - just swim around the isle.

Some people find this task especially difficult as they can't see through the water-line unless they dive under, but the underwater fog reduces their visual range. Here is a good technique for locating items and mobs underwater.

    1. Move down onto the water.
    2. Use the PG Down / PG Up buttons to position your view so the bottom half of the screen shows under the water, and the top half shows above it.
    3. Hit the Home key (to flatten your view to the horizon)

With that technique, EQ will consider you above the water-line, so there's no underwater fog. But half your view will intersect the water-line, so that you will be able to see the sea floor.

Now just use the map to follow around the coast edge and the chests should be very easy to spot.

You need to locate and open A Waterlogged Chest until you loot the the items.

The chests spawn in random and inconsistent locations underwater, around the Siren island.

You will not be allowed to /open the chests unless you actually have the task for them.

The final steps are to turn in the items you located.

He speaks the truth. There are Chests around Maiden's Grave
    this may seem obvious

but the strategy I used was just swimming around the island hitting the f8 key repeatedly until "a waterlogged chest" appeared on the target window.
