Ulan Meadowgreen is located at 119, -2192 in South Karana (in the centaur encampment).

You say, 'Hail, Ulan Meadowgreen'

Ulan Meadowgreen says 'Greetings. I am Ulan Meadowgreen of the family Meadowgreen. My brother and I are the best armorers in all of Norrath. We craft [armor] for the bravest warriors in the land. If you are a warrior of renown, and are interested in our armor, I have some mighty [labors] you might wish to attempt for me.'

You say, 'What labors?'

Ulan Meadowgreen says 'Only those who can prove themselves mighty warriors deserve to wear our crafted armor. While my brother prefers trophies, I seek instead tasks which will help my craft and my people.'

You say, 'What armor?'

Ulan Meadowgreen says 'I smith [bracers], [greaves], [pauldrons] and [breastplates]. My brother Shakrn smiths helms, gauntlets, boots and vambraces.'

You say, 'What about the pauldrons?'

Ulan Meadowgreen says 'In the caverns of Clan Runnyeye live several evil eyes of prodigious magical power. Split among them are the three lost pieces of the legendary [Rune of Dwarves]. When assembled, this rune is said to impart a mystic skill to the smith who holds it. Bring me these three pieces and a [fire emerald], and I will smith for you a pauldron worthy of the mightiest of warriors.'

You say, 'What Rune of Dwarves?'

Ulan Meadowgreen says 'The Rune of Dwarves once rested in the heart of the city of Kaladim. Years ago, the goblins of Clan Runnyeye stole it from the dwarves. No one I have ever spoken to knows how it was broken. It is not hard to guess, however, why the evil eyes now hold them.'

You say, 'A fire emerald?'

Ulan Meadowgreen says 'I need a fire emerald for a piece of jewelry my brother and I are creating.'

Fire Emeralds may be purchased from several merchants. The Rune of Dwarves is broken into three pieces (Top, Middle and Bottom) and drops from Evil Eye Prisoners in Clan Runnyeye.

Upon handing in one Fire Emerald, Bottom of a Fractured Rune, Middle of a Fractured Rune and Top of a Fractured Rune:

Ulan Meadowgreen says 'Wait, _____, are you not forgetting something?'
Ulan Meadowgreen says 'Wait, _____, are you not forgetting something?'
Ulan Meadowgreen says 'Wait, _____, are you not forgetting something?'
Ulan Meadowgreen says 'Most impressive - all three pieces of the dwarven rune. When joined, this shall serve me well. Take this crafted pauldron with my gratitude.'

Yesterday myself and a monk friend camped these evil eyes for 7 hours. needless to say we didnt get the top piece(nodrop). this must be broken or we just got real bad luck. in the 8 times we killed these things, we got 2 bottoms, 7 middles, and no tops. needless to say, we both were a bit pissed off so we took out our frustrations on the gobbos on the bottom floor. nothing was spared, killed the merchants, the bartender, the banker, everyone. got some ok blackened alloy stuff, but nothing to write home about. maybe the newbies in Qeynos hills will want these stuff.

No, you are not missing anything. I keep seeing people posting throughout the site in various topics (not just Crafted Paldrons and Dwarven Runes) talking about a EE named "Borxx." I have played EQ for quite a while now and have overrun both Runnyeye and Beholder, not once have I ever seen this EE. Also other than people posting, Khazam's and Illa's makes no mention of it. So no, you are not missing anything.

I killed the prisoners six times (That's twelve kills) before I got my first rune drop, and they both dropped bottoms. Next time, one dropped the middle. It was many kills later that I finally got the top. Just the luck of the random draw as to what you are going to get, nothing else.

Be safe!

I finally got all the runes for the quest, when i got to Ulan and ready to hand in the items, I accidently hand them all in to the horseman next to him, and YES, all gone. So i got pissed off and decided to kill that guy and hey, what do u know!! I looted the bottom and middle runes and the fire emerald from it, too bad the top is no drop, lore, so i have to end up camping the ee prisoner again :(
So i ended up going back to runnyeye for the ee again, but i got lucky, went in, both on track, kill them both and got the top oine right there :)

You get the Fire Emeralds off any merchant that sells the metals for making jewelry. It will be a long ways down the list, but they will be there.

You do not have to wait for a drop.

Well, afaik they drop in Sebilis and I think I saw one drop in SolB once.
Best bet is to simply get some cash and buy them. HHK, Qeynos and Freeport sell them I think.

Went there yesterday with my 51st wizard. Took a serious beating after I moved closer to the pool after getting a "You cannot see your target" message. Aggroed the eyes and a backstabbing goblin. Lost my skin and 700 hits before killing them all. No runes either :(

After that I found a few spots where I could drop them in one nuke. They have more than 643 hits (Draught of Fire) but less than 783 damage (Rend).

There are also 3 goblin spawns in there, one just outside the room and a regular wandering goblin. All died in one Draught. Once when I checked there was a Crusader with around 700 hits. He dropped a Black Iron ******* Sword 20/47 lore.

As an idea on drop rates I killed 10 eyes in all and got 2 Bottom Runes and a Middle rune.

Back again tonight for the Upper Rune I hope. And I never saw more than 4 people in the zone.

went down to solo these guys at lvl 31 as a warrior with exe axe and fungi tunic. Let's just say that 15hp regen is nothing when you are taking 300DD from these guys. I was able to solo one and train the other to the zone. Had to heal up and go after the other. Almost died because of my low resistances. Not willing to take any chances after that I enlisted the help of the occasional residential badazz wandering through to help me. Once a 46 warrior was stripped down to less than 1 bub by these guys. Get your resistance buffs kicking before trying to handle these guys at any level. Kinda silly when a 31 warrior has to take taunt over from a 46 warrior on a couple of lvl 30 casters.

Our little group killed the two evil eye prisoners today. They were not as bad as alot of people say. Our group was 3 PCs, 26 Troll Warrior, 29 Wood Elf Druid, and a 29 Human Cleric. We simply camoed down to there room killed the gobbie mindripper(I think mindripper) right outside the pit room. Then we started on a gobbie bladechopper and the eyes jumped in (weird youd think prisoners would be thankful). Our Trollie ran them to the zone while the other 2 of us used our new DDs. The Troll had to zone out and back in as did I. But since we spread the damage around and kept blasting, they went down handily. The only thing bad about this strategy would be if we got any innocent bystanders killed when pulling them to the zone. Fortunately, the zone was empty to that point so no harm no foul. They do drop the runes as our Trollie got his first piece (upper). We didn't stay to camp them because of the hour it takes them to respawn. Hope this helps :).

The runes needed for this quest are dropped ONLY by the Evil Eye Prisoners in Runnyeye Citadel. They are NOT dropped by the evil eyes in the Gorge or East Karana. I camped the Gorge Evil Eyes for 4 hours and received NONE, in three spawns of the Evil Eye Prisoners in Runnyeye I had all the runes. Judge for yourself.

These Evil Eyes are difficult to solo at the recommended level. Get a partner over 35 or a small group to camp them.

The spawn rate is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour for both Prisoners, the runes drop fairly commonly, but you might have to go through 3-5 spawns to get them all.

The names are:
Top of Fractured Rune
Middle of Fractured Rune
Bottom of Fractured Rune

All are LORE, top is NO DROP LORE.

Ok here it is Myself and a 51 Cleric camped the Evil Eye Prisoners last night (July 3). First they spawn in the pit after you come down from the first floor, Only two of them, One of them is like level 25-26 and the other is 30-31. We killed them and they both drop'd the bottom piece of the Fragmented Rune , It is not called Rune of Dwarves, One of them drop'd an Eyestalk, We waited exactly one hour for the next spawn, The little EE drop'd nothing and the Big EE drop'd the Middle of the fragmented rune and a Polished Bone Bracelet, Again we waited exacly one hour and they spawn'd again, Like last time the little one drop'd nothing and the big one drop'd the Top of the fragmented rune Which is Lore No Drop and he drop'd and Eye Totem. The Bottom and Middle are just Lore Only the Top is No Drop.
I hope this helps, As I have camp'd every EE I could find in the Gorge and in Karana's and they only drop the Bunch of Optic Nerves for the Bracers.

I am only missing the helm, and the pauldrins, and as far as i'm concerned the helm doens't seem worth it to me. I'd rather my skullshaped barbute. It's much better and being atroll it's right in Guk =) ga ta love that one all the Ogres and Trolls i know are loving that =) But i would really like the names of these stones (runes) that we are collecting so that i know when i have the right ones

The new Runnyeye and the runes?
# Jun 06 2001 at 2:55 PM Rating: Default
I havent been in the zone since it was changed, but from what I'm hearing, the evil eyes arent really there anymore (one ranger said there was never an EE on track)

So how does this affect the runes needed for this piece of crafted? Are the EE still in there that drop the runes?

there are still EE's in runnyeye, I'm not sure if they still drop the pieces though. The name has changed (Something to do with being captured,, can't remember now). They conned blue at 38 and I was soloing there so I didn't wanna mess with them giving the nastiness of just about evrey evil eye I've come across that wasn't way green to me (of course I never tried an evil eye wizard before.. my cold and fire resists are high... my magic sucks).

Well...once again Verant makes getting low lvl quested armor harder to get. With the last patch the mobs lvls, pathing, names, and thier loot has changed. It is now almost IMPOSSIBLE for any warrior questing for the runes to get them without a full group around lvl 30+ :o( There are several new drops that make the place worth vistiting now (especially high lvls that are constantly there now farming the stuff) and some new messages that pop up that are kinda funny =o) I hope u all have fun and stay alive long enough to bring back some of the nice prizes held within the new Runnyeye Citidel.
RE: New Obstacles
# Jun 03 2001 at 3:55 PM Rating: Default
But of course. If you don't have a 35+ character (in other words if you didn't buy Scars of Velious), then Verant no longer acknowledges your existence (Runnyeye, Beholders, and especially Najena). The under 30 quests are just for the farmers now since the only newbies Verant actually thinks exist are twinks of the ubers. Sure they added the Warrens and put in the loot rules, but they also put in the Dreadful Hat guy to make sure only those who either were from Paineel or had ready access to a group that can invis can get there (for what, all in all, is terrible gear that is excellent merchant fodder). Kithicor is also getting pretty deadly during the daytime as well as during the night, thanks to the Teir'Dal Reaver for the epic who will aggro on anyone, including dark elves. Then there's the kobold missionary now making Steamfont an even more worthless zone. Just continuing their policy of "Let's make Lesser Faydark more popular by putting wandering level 40 psychobrownies there." Abashi's on the dev team now, and Abashi's opinion of the game is "You people don't die enough."

I have managed to quest an entire suit of crafted for myself, and recently found myself in need of getting a new bracer after trading one of mine inadvertantly:) So I went to East karanas to fight the EE enchanters (EE in gorge and K are chanters, in runnyeye they are wizards, trust me they hurt) After an hour without sighting any I went into runnyeye where I grouped with a 40+ paladin and we killed about 10 evil eyes over the next few hours. I got various gems, the top, middle and bottom runes (These are what are called the broken dwarven runes things) two eyestalks, and no nerves. I am going to try the forge in beholder maze because I am told nerves drop more often there and the eyes have a 6min spawn versus 20 in Runnyeye. Safe travels and good luck

Not Level 22-25
# May 10 2001 at 11:12 AM Rating: Decent
These things were White to my Wife's 30th lvl Druid, and blue to a 35th level Paladin. IT wasnt Borxx either, or whatever his name is. Mostly red to a 25th level warrior and bard, some yellow. There is no way, even a skilled group of 6 would be able to take one of these without someone dying. In RunnyEye, all EE's are Wizards. All of them, without question. They do 170 and 240 damage with their force and lightning, and hit for 30-50 melee for those who DONT HAVE CRAFTED ARMOR YET... but are trying to get it. They have a decent amount of HP as well, to take ONE down, it took 5 or 6 hits from a 30th Druid and constant melee after that, paladin had to use his lay hands.

22-25 my tiny wood elf *****

And what the hell is up with the top one being no drop, but the other 2 not being no drop. After almost dying against one, my party was like.. "Well just try and buy the other 2"... YEAH RIGHT... I already gotta spend 100pp on the damn sapphire or whatever stupid rock I have to buy for this peice.

UberGhey. Feel free to flame me, I dont care.

# May 27 2001 at 11:09 AM Rating: Decent
I agree with my comrade here, the posting is inaccurate as to the level of mobs involved with this quest.
Yesterday 5/26/2001 a party of 32 Warrior, 31 Paladin, 30 Ranger went into Runnyeye to do a recon of it. We picked up a 31 Druid enroute and went in. Getting to the spawn sites was too easy, from previous posts here we knew where to go.
The plan was to do a recon, and then decide what to do. Someone forgot to tell the EEs for when we opened the door he came out to say hello. He died in the hall, we promptly went in and killed the shamen. All conned blue to the warrior.
The Ranger fell in the pit, and on is way out met the pulled the other room to the Beholder's Maze zone. Once we had him back in the room we proceeded to camp one room. We got bored after the next set went down, and still no drop of any rune pieces, so we took on the other room also. After breaking it the Druid had to leave so it was left to the original three of us.
On the next spawn we took a good beating, no deaths, but had to chase the EE to the first level to kill it. Picked up additional mobs and killed all, but were oom, and low on health.
While resting we debated on the other room, whether to keep it or let it go. The Ranger pulled the EE and in the resulting meelee he died. This was the only death we experienced. No lay of hands was used by the Paladin.
Another party came in and we gave up one room keeping the one with the pit. By this time I had a middle piece. This was after five EEs. The next EE dropped another middle, which we gave to the other party. We next looted a top portion, this had to be 2 or 3 spawns later. The next one was another top, again we shared. The other room had dropped a bottom, so that party had a set in about 2 hours. They stayed and kept that room to help me get a bottom piece but after another several spawns, none were dropped and they left.
We proceeded to keep both rooms. On the next spawn, Borxx popped in the pool room. The Ranger and Warrior were in there alone, he was resistant to magic, and the Warrior could get no damage on him. Pulled him from the hole, and proceeded to meelee. He conned blue to the Warrior, and took a long time to die. He dropped an optic nerve, the lens and an eye stalk.
This continued on without another Borxx for over five hours. Finally the bottom portion dropped from an EE in the original room, completing the set.
EEs in Runnyeye were difficult for our party of three. We used max magic resistance and fire resistance. None of us are twinked, all our primary characters. We have played extensively together though from day one on EQ. I think this was a major contributor, knowing how each other plays, if not thinks.
The Evil Eyes conned yellow to the Ranger at 30, even to blue to the Paladin at 32. Shamen were maybe 25 at best, one out of five gave experience. Loot was typical for these level of mobs, made about 150pp in our 5 to 6 hour stay.
On a previous trip into Beholder's Maze we checked out Runnyeye, and it was empty. At one time last night we had 22 in there.
I am sorry that this is so long, but felt a need to help my fellow warriors on this quest.
Experience was good from EEs two of us leveled.

When you enter Runnyeye from the Gorge, follow the right wall down the ramp. The hall splits there, take the right and you will be in a cavern with a river running through it. Here you will likely encounter your first fight, with a Dazed Guard or Shaman (sometimes one of each). Note that if Dazed Miners still aggro and give you any problems at all, you might rethink attempting this quest. Assuming that this incounter isn't a problem, continue to the next hall on the right which will sometimes contain a wandering Dazed Guard. Try to time it to avoid him, however, because the door on the left is the Shaman Room, and three Dazed Shamans and an Evil Eye spawn there. The Eye wanders about the room, but he can see through the wall and will jump you if you fight the Dazed Guard in the hallway, somtimes bringing a Shaman with him. Ideally, to break the room you want to aggro the Eye through the wall and pull him back out the river area to kill him. The next fight is with the three Shamans. All of them at once is very difficult without an Enchanter; that's a lot of healing. If possible, pull them singly out into the river area as well. Once the room is clear, settle down and wait. The Eye spawns in the corner to the right of the door (as you face it from the inside).

If you get bored, and the zone is underpopulated (as it often is these days), it's not too difficult to camp two Eye spawns at the same time. The hallways outside angles downward and branches right and left, to the right is the Pool room containing three Dazed Goblins (could be Guards or Shamans, it's random) and another Eye in the pool.

A group of low-mid 30s can camp both rooms. If you have an Enchanter in his mid 30s the rest of the group can be as low as 27-30. The Evil Eyes here are all Wizards, so you needn't worry about getting Charmed, but try to jump them before they get their buffs up (that damage shield in particular is vexing). Also, have at least one tank with good MR and FR (60+ is good enough).

Come here expecting an 8 hour camp for all three pieces and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised. I averaged just about a Rune every five kills, or about one an hour. People who stopped by during my camp reported similar drop rates. Good luck!

Wierd things happen when you get charmed. A little while ago I got charmed by an insane caster on the loose in Freeport by the name of Palatos Kynarn. I was working on my Blacksmithing at the time, and all of a sudden started attacking this Barbarian Warrior. So here I am, wielding a Dark Reaver, and lo and behold, I can suddenly bash! Not to mention casting a spell I didn't even have memorized (Disease Cloud). When you're charmed you become instant badass.

While charmed, you are treated as an NPC of your level and class - and as we all know, all NPCs can cast (virtually) all the spells that exist, and use all "standard" abilities.

Oh, and while it may appear that you can /ooc, /shout etc, no-one will see these...

I at 25 have 70mr unbuffed and a bard in the group took me to 126. Gotta get a bard doing the eyes. No charm = no problem with them. Group Invis doenst hurt either but con everything to see if indifferent. A shaman or other casters resists will stack on top of songs so the more the merrier. I didnt have but it could have gone up to 140 with a good caster buff. Not to hard figure out the chances of charm with 140Magic resist. Hitting your wizard for double 50's can spoil the whole experience. Oh yeah if it happens dont hit your "ohhh yeah, take that crit in the pants" button if its against one of your own. After 9 battles with evil eyes in the first room (after one goes down the stairs and through a pile of wood) I was able to obtain all three runes; top, middle and bottom. Hence if one is patient, one need not look further than this one room for the runes. Our assault group consisted of a Cleric, Shaman, Warrior and Paladin of the 26th, 27th, 29th and 30th orders, respectively. We were able to handle them fairly easily. It is my judgement that you do not solo this room as a warrior, less ye be of the 33rd order or greater, with standard equipment.
In addition, should you wish to pull from the other rooms, be wary of being swarmed. We had to evacuate when the goblins launched a major assault against us; seven in total.
Also be warned the evil eyes are tough casters (level 20 wizards), unless you're a dwarven warrior with good magic resistance ;). Fare thee well, fellow warriors.

The evil eyes in EK and Beholders are enchanters but they are wizards in Runnyeye. They hit very hard and some are still red to me at lvl 27.
Apologies

My apologies for the inadvertant use of the subject title, I tried changing it later, but was unable to.
