This task begins with Watchman Stormwren Undaru at the centaur lake in eastern Goru'kar Mesa. You must have already completed Rite of Passage I

You say, 'Hail, Watchman Stormwren Undaru'

Watchman Stormwren Undaru says 'Your cunning is no longer in question. A [test of strategy], however, could perhaps serve as a better fit to someone of your... stature.'

You say, 'a test of strategy?'

Watchman Stormwren Undaru says 'To the west you will find a broad opening with patches of hot springs shooting up from the earth below you. Occasionally you will spot him... a small creature with pride far beyond his size. If you engage the creature in battle, you may find that it is quick to sense when its enemy is getting the best of it and will retreat into the earth. You must find a way to slay this creature and return to me its head.'

You have been assigned the task 'Rites of Passage II'.

Enter Sunderock Springs from Goru`Kar Mesa 0/1 (Sunderock Springs)

The task updates as you move north from the zone line.

Find the hotsprings mesa atop which the creature resided 0/1 (Sunderock Springs)

The mesa you seek is the one where Anaglass resides. Loc -2500, -480.

Kill the Hotsprings Hedgehog 0/1 (Sunderock Springs)

The hedgehog is small and uses a corathus creep model. He skitters around very fast but should not be hard to find. He can be snared.

Take its Head as a Trophy 0/1 (Sunderock Springs)

Return with the head to Undaru 0/1 (Gou'kar Mesa)

Upon hand-in:

Well I'll be! I did not expect you in such a timely fashion. I say, you are beginning to catch my eye, but you still have a great deal to accomplish before we can fully trust you among the ranks of our kind.

Rewards:
- Experience
- Either a "Cliffwood Bow" or a "Crystaline Sky Sphere"

There is no faction for doing the task. Undaru will allow you to repeat the task but does not seem to offer anything else.

This quest is fun, and annoying.

First, good tip from Sarongor in another post - "position yourself between two ponds at loc -2120, -472" that helped lots, and so worth repeating.

Our small group moved from the zone in, invis and up top by the ponds. The quest updates, yes we zoned, yes we got to the kill spot, now kill the hedgehog!

First test was the drakes. They are indifferent (yes, invis was off!)
So can take as long as you like, no problems. In the hour or so we were there, no mobs patrol that engaged.

Yes, as others have said, when you fight the hedgehog the drakes are sociable. The one beside that spot will fight. You have a choice, kill it first while wait for the hedgehog, or deal with it whenever you see it. I found it useful as a spawn timer. ~10-12 minutes? not sure.

The hedgehog does not spawn in the near area of the quest, or those two ponds.
But he does run by that area.
Therefore you can wait, and tag him as he goes by. He is non-aggro, until you make the first move.

for me... a hot button for:-

/target a_hotsprings_hedgehog

... was useful.

Believe me if I say, you won't see the hedgehog coming. Trying to mouse click it, he's just too damn fast and he's out the way again.

Therefore for me, was spam that target button, and as soon as i had a target - then click the aggro spells. Stun? Snare? whatever as long as its quick to cast.
If you don't get him, it will take few minutes from him to do another lap of whatever path he is on and come by.

One of the concerns we had, was he triggered, like some other quest events.
I think safe to say the answer is no.

Our group came in, we all got updates and were all at the "kill it" stage.
Yet he did respawn, and come back around again, similar timing as the drake by the pond. Only difference being drake is static and right there, whereas the hedgehog does his merry little journey.

All in all, if you plan for about 15 minutes or so, per group member doing the quest you should all get his head for turn in. No need to run around, back to quest giver, one person at a time. Just keep the group together by the pond, and wait.. spam that key and get the hedgehog!

Just position yourself between two ponds at loc -2120, -472. Kill the drake that is there then wait for the hedgehog. It will come from the north and then cross into the pond to your south. Easy.

Ok, I am boxing 3 toons, and have to kill it 3 times to do it for all three toons, since it drops 1 head each time, not sure how soon it pops, tho, since I am still waiting after first kill......

Did this quest last night. Received both the elaborate scryer's ring and band as well as the elaborate crystal with a 66th level Wizard, J1 Tank, 62nd level Ranger with T5 Cleric. My impression wasn't too hard to pull off but every steam mist drake will add. Take any nearby drakes out first. Hedgehog is extremely fast and should be called "sonic" for obvious reasons.

The normally non-aggro drakes in that area will also add if you get too close while aggroing the hedgehog, which looks like one of those Corathus things.

Yup. They will be added to Alla just as soon as EQ Item Collector is updated to take account of the patch of 5th December.
