Shakrn Meadowgreen is located (106, -2215) in the centaur encampment in South Karana.

You say, 'Hail, Shakrn Meadowgreen'

Shakrn Meadowgreen says 'Hail! I am Shakrn Meadowgreen, warrior extraordinaire and master armorer of the Meadowgreen family. My brother and I craft [armor] for the bravest warriors in the land - do you think you [qualify]?'

You say, 'I qualify.'

Shakrn Meadowgreen says 'So you are a warrior of renown? [Prove] it to me and I will smith you [armor] befitting your exalted station.'

You say, 'How do I prove it?'

Shakrn Meadowgreen says 'You will prove yourself to me the old fashioned way, by killing things and bringing me back proof of your deed. Bah. What other way is there?'

You say, 'What armor?'

Shakrn Meadowgreen says 'I smith [helms], [gauntlets], [boots] and [vambraces]. My brother Ulan smiths bracers, greaves, pauldrons and breastplates.'

You say, 'What gauntlets?'

Shakrn Meadowgreen says 'Crafted gauntlets - the mark of a distinguished warrior. I have a personal grudge to settle with those twice-cursed aviaks. They have been raiding our merchant convoys for the last few weeks, causing mischief to no end. Bring me an aviak charm from an avocet. I am sure I will not need to tell you how to get it. An aviak charm and two [star rubies], and I will reward you with crafted gauntlets.'

Star rubies may be purchased from several merchants. The Aviak Charm drops from Aviak Avocets who can be found roaming all over the southern half of South Karana.

Shakrn Meadowgreen says 'Wait, ______, are you not forgetting something?'

Shakrn Meadowgreen says 'Wait, ______, are you not forgetting something?'

Shakrn Meadowgreen says 'Ho ho! An aviak charm. These are not easy to come by. You have proven yourself a mighty warrior, and therefore deserve to wear these crafted warrior gauntlets.'

You gain experience!!

Why is this quest listed as being doable at level 23?? The aviak avocet is listed as spawning at levels 28-30. Any level 23 that tries taking it on will likely be killed with extreme prejudice. I noticed that with a lot of quest listings here. They are shown as being doable at a certain level, yet the mobs that drop the needed items are usually much higher, making the quest un-doable at that level. Why is that??

Well, since the leel requirement is for a grouped character, 23 doesn't seem at all unreasonable. A full group of 6 lvl 23s could easily take down an aviak avocet.

In fact, if you click the link for the aviak avocet, you'll see a post from a 24 druid who soloed one, with 20% mana left over. I'd guess that a well twinked 23 druid could do the same.

Admittedly, a 23 WARRIOR, untwinked, would probably be wasted pretty quickly trying to solo the avocet, but that isn't what the level to attain means. That's also the same reason other quests list a level to attain lower than the mob. Its level to attain with a group, or several groups, in the case of many higher level quests.

Where can one loot star rubies? I just love finding all the stuff myself.

I actually have the money for them, but would rather try to find them.

And what's the pc on the gauntlets?

I understand why you don't like PvP servers, but "play on a real server"? Give me a break man. SZ is as close to a real server as it gets. Something about dark elven necros grouping with high elven paladins makes me think the blue servers are a little bit unrealistic. I'm glad that SZ has *some* sense of RPing which is mostly due to idiots like you not playing it because it's too hard.

Realism... let me see. Your adventuring party is out hunting in some far off lands and they get attacked by a group of evil adventurers, and this is unrealistic? Please realize that you're playing a ROLE PLAYING GAME.

I don't play on SZ, but you belong on Bertoxxulos. SZ is EQ set on maximum difficulty. You, Sir, are playing it on 'super easy'. If you are 'enraged' by SZ and who's playing on it I suggest you seek counseling.
1 hour?

On Sullon Zek as a good warrior this isn't nearly as easy, as all the Karanas are controlled by Neutrals. Me, level 30 warrior, a 27 warrior and a 30 cleric decided to head to SK to camp for two of these charms. We thought it'd take about 2 hours and we could scoot out of there. We ended up camping the aviaks up top and on the bottom for about 7 hours killing 14 aviak avocets and getting 0 charms. We were constantly killing their PHs and they seem to be a somewhat rare spawn and the charm seems to be a very rare drop on top of that. We were also wiped out twice by some high level evils that were passing by but that was just a minor inconvenience. Why won't they drop for us!?

I'm a 34th Half Elf Ranger...My 30th Half Elf Rogue friend has an Ogre Warrior that he wanted crafted for. When I looked up the quest, my mouth dropped. This quest is EASY (compared to my Ivy Etched Quests). For my Ivy quests, I had to camp some guy in OOT for 10 hours. For the leggings, the spawn rate on the guy is 20 minutes...wow

Star rubies can also be found in Qeynos, at the jeweler shop. They are on the second merchant, who sells the metal bars, not the one who sells all the cheaper gems. This merchant also has the Sapphires for the crafted bracers, and one other gem.

Also, the jewelry shop in freeport sells the same gems, it is the merchant upstairs who has them. It SEEMS to me that they arte on any of the merchants who sell the silver/electrum/gold/plat bars. I have not found them on the regular gem merchants.
resizing crafted
# Jul 12 2001 at 3:40 PM Rating: Default
I thought there was a way to resize crafted. I have small guantlets and need large. Am I dreaming or is there a way?
RE: resizing crafted
# Aug 06 2001 at 12:46 PM Rating: Default
Oddly enough, when I resized my medium crafted at the dorfs in WC, they gave me back LARGE crafted. Thinking I could get small back if I handed my BP in again (for my dwarf), I turned it back in. The dwarf ATE it. I had to kill him to get it back.

When I looted the BP, it was SMALL. Odd. Faction hit sucked when i killed them both (NFP, good merchants, etc).

Why do I think this isn't actually what happened? The guys in West Commons will take regular crafted, and make it small, not the other way around. Also, there is NO LARGE crafted.

Regular crafted - fits all races, this is the form it comes from the centaur npc in. These items are simply labelled crafted (ie. Crafted Breastplate), or at least for boots, are labelled crafted plate boots.

Small crafted - fits small races only. This is what the dwarves in WC do to it. The only real advantage to making crafted small is the lesser weight. Small races can wear regular crafted, it just weighs more. Also, small is harder to sell, because it eliminates 3/4 of the market. these are labelled small crafted (ie. small crafted breatplate).

Large crafted does not exist. Some items of crafted may have large in the item description for size, but this just refers to the type of bags/boxes it fits in, not the races that can wear it. I'm guessing that you gave the regular BP, got the small, which fits in containers which hold LARGE items, read that wrong, gave it back, killed him, and got back the same bp that you gave him. If you look at that small BP you now have, you will notice that when you right click it for the info, it says size LARGE in the item description.

Crafted armor can be resized to be made smaller, but not to be made larger. The main advantage to making them smaller is so that they weigh less if you are a medium or small race. The crafted armor that you get originally from the quests fits everyone.

STAR RUBIES
# Jun 27 2001 at 6:25 AM Rating: Default
Star Rubies fall from desert madmen in NRO and Oasis. I found several this way but to my dismay sold them to vendors. Guess I will learn everything is used for something, well almost everything.

If star rubies dropped off desert madmen, north ro and oasis of marr would be even busier than they are.

I do believe I have seen star rubies drop off the cyclops in ocean of tears. Can't recall if it was the seafuries, or the placeholders for the Ancient Cyclops, since we were killing both. Thee gems will be high level drops, not from mobs like desert madmen.

The star rose quartz that does drop off the madmen is used for erollisi marr imbued jewelry and armor. The jewelry is pretty lame, the armor is nice.
RE: STAR RUBIES

Star rubies can be bought for around 65-70pp. (hmm well I do have 127CHA + alliance spell....) If the vendors want to charge your character 100+pp for star rubies, find a trusty friend with better CHA to make the purchase!
RE: STAR RUBIES
# Jul 18 2001 at 2:46 PM Rating: Default
Those pink things dropped by those mobs were Star Rose Quarts,, worth about 1pp each..Star rubies run in the 100+ pp range,, and both are stock items on vendors..

why not just make a mule bard and max out charisma...seems like a fairly easy way to go instead of wasting money on charisma gear
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 2:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.
