In the Fish Ale pub in South Qeynos there is a man named Micc Koter standing at the bar. His companion (whose name I forget) will occasionally mumble about someone "foolish going after the Paw of Opolla". When you ask the companion about it, he tells you to mind your own business, but Micc will tell him to behave. Ask Micc about the Paw of Opolla and he will tell you it is a magical item and it belongs to "some gnoll bitch". He will offer to tell you where to find it if you buy him a brandy. I had to buy 2 to get him to talk. He then says that someone calling himself Caninel went to find it in the Plains of Karana.

Caninel is located in West Karana, along with two named gnolls, along the mountains near the border with North Karana. When you talk to Caninel, he will demand 3 gems (a Moonstone, a Bloodstone, and a Star Rose Quartz) before telling you about the Paw of Opolla. He will then tell you about how when the humans from Everfrost first met the Blackburrow Gnolls, the Shaman Opolla greeted them warmly and had her hand cut off by Gynok Moltor. She placed a curse upon the Moltor descendants, the last of which can be found in under Qeynos. He tells you to ask him about the paw and also about the rings on the paw.

When you find him (Vin Moltor), he will demand 3 Bottle of Kalish and a Rat Ear Pie for the paw. He will deny any knowledge of the rings and say that his father probably sold them, mentioning his father's travels in Odus. You can get the pie through a quest in Qeynos Hills, or you can kill him to get the Severed Paw. This is not the actual item, since it seems it is the rings that activate its magic.

There are four rings that need to be put in the paw container and combined to get the true paw: Platinum Ring, Gold Ring, Silver Ring and Copper Ring. Look for rings with a XXX: +1 CHA: -1 stat.

All four rings are known to drop from a mummy named Gynok Moltor in Befallen.

The Copper, Silver, and Gold Rings can be obtained through the Shiny Rings quest in Toxxulia Forest which involves camping a fungus mutant in Upper Guk.

The Silver Ring also appears in the lake in Blackburrow.

Need all dialogues, /loc of quest mobs, missing quest items, faction hits if any, any other missing information.

It makes no sense that someone hsould have to wait 15+ hours for ANY item. It's not dedication on your part it's stupidity. You should demand more from game developers than that.

#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 01 2001 at 9:08 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Dude your an idiot just because you only had to wait 3 hours dosent mean a thing, you just got lucky, unlike me i have been doing this quest for 12 days now and im still not done. so shut up about it being easy we know its easy just time comsuming.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 25 2001 at 7:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Just to let you fools know. I did the quest 6 times and 4 times i camped gynok by myself and its a all random timer on him. Once he spawned after just 1 hour 2nd time after 6 hours 3rd time 15 hours 4th i dont remember.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 23 2001 at 8:03 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) right on i think your right cause these ppl are to impatint and they should learn to wait! and i havent done it but i am going to now and wait for it.

Vin Moltor does not have any particular spawn time or PH. There is no way to definately make him spawn, he runs of the same chain as the rats, spiders and everything else in the zone. Everytime that I have been in the sewers (I go there alot) he has been up at the time I went into the zone.

I have been camping the the mutant fungus for almost 6 days now and he hasnt droped and weed, wtf is wrong with this game, quest are suposed to be do able not take forever with a mob the swpawns every 15 mins, so personaly i think its a wast of time

One other thing that may make it not worth it is the total absence of Gynok or his ph in Befallen. I haven't seen anything spawn from the zone to commons for about a week now on Tholuxe Paells. Has anyone else noticed this?

The first time I went into Befallen, the place was crawling with dark elves. I spent a couple of hours camping and neither Gynok or his phs spawned. I went back about 2 weeks later and all the dark elves were gone; replaced with undead. I killed everything around the zone for about 2 hours and he spawned right after a ghoul did at the zone. I got my plat ring and now I am off to Guk.

This is true, I have camped gynok for countless hours that I am ashamed Tunare would find this needless and cast me out by her will alone.

The whole spawn point for gynok and his place holders plague rats, ice bone skele, large skele,Giant rats, ghouls(which when spawn call out a shout to zone about being awoken from %T's sleep)
{all shout with the one exception of giant rats).
None of which are spawning at the befallen entrance.

This started after the last patch im sure of it.
was the first place I went on my server*tholuxe paels*.i was already camped their.

Broke or possibly Gynok has moved elsewhere???

Just wanted to let you all know that I killed Gynok Moltar in Befallen today and he dropped the gold ring. Had killed him earlier in the day and he dropped the platinum ring. A short while ago, I killed him for the third time and he dropped the copper ring. In short, I witnessed with my very own eyes that you do not even have to camp the fungus mutant in Upper Guk if you don't want to. Gynok drops all 3 rings, and the silver ring is just too easy to get from the lake in Blackburrow.

However, I should point out that I did camp the fungus mutant in Upper Guk early this morning and got the bracket mildew on the first kill, nothing on the second kill and the degenerated guk weed on the third kill. I understand that this happening is so far beyond lucky as to be almost unbelievable, but here I stand.

And one last point, in case you haven't already figured it out, I now lack only the platinum ring to finish up my second paw of opolla - one for me, and one for me to sell. Hehe. Once you have combined all the stuff for your first paw, you can go back and get all the rings and the paw container again without worrying about lore/no drop status. Once I have all 4 rings and the container, I will sell the completed paw for somewhere around 2-3k and then promptly combine the rings and the container for the paw I plan to keep. Not bad for a day's work, eh? And yes, I was also lucky in having an entire day free to work on this.

Best of luck to you all in doing this quest. Think how long it would take you to earn 2k just by adventuring, then think about doing the paw quest a time or three. Easy money.

How I got my paw as a level 34 druid
# Jul 30 2001 at 1:59 AM Rating: Excellent
Okay I'll explain this whole quest. I'd recommend getting the rings before killing Vin Moltar because should you give up on the quest, you'll have bad fraction in Qeynos. There are 4 rings you need to get along with the severed paw. These are in easiest to hardest to get.

Silver Ring: This ring spawns every 4 hours at the bottom in the lake in Black Burrow ub a small bag. Just pick it up. Also drops from the mutant fungus in Upper Guk as a Fearix Spores (rare)

Copper Ring: There are 2 ways to get this one. The easiest and most common way is to camp the fungus mutant ( a level 25 fungus or so ) and loot the brackey mildew ( Common, 1 every 3 hours or so ) this also drops off of Gynok Moltar in Befallen as his rare drop.

Platnum Ring: This drops of of Gynok Moltar in Befallen as his common. He spawns right near the enterance to befallen with a random spawn time. Any thing that spawns there ( Icebone skele, rat etc) is his PH and as soon as it spawns begins headed down to the 3rd floor. He is around level 27 and is a mummy. When he spawns he shouts his arrival so you'll know. Expect to wait a LONG time. ( 14 hours is average I've heard, up to 48 )

Gold Ring: This is the most annoyying of them all. It also drops of the mutant fungus as the infamous degenerated guk weed. This is ultra rare. Expect to wait 16+ hours. The mutant is level 25 and is easy to kill as a druid. Keep him rooted and KEEP YOUR POSION RESISTANE UP. His clockwork posion does little damage but stuns you. the drones will use light healing ( there around level 19 ) and can argo if you get to close. Keep him rooted and blast. No PH's with a 16 min spawn time.

Note: The Fungus Ancient ( a very rare spawn ) also drops the fearix spores for the silver ring.

Okay now that you have all of your rings ( Plat, silver, and maybe copper) and you items ( bracket mildew, fearix spores, degenerated guk weed ) head of to Kerra Ridge. Now, the items metioned above are TRADED in for the rings. So if you do not need the copper ring, you have no use for the braket mildew, make sense? ( to get to Kerra Ridge, go to Tox forest and find the river, follow it to the small docks with a boat and ride to the other side, becareful though case a nerco and a SK guard it, so be invis. The nerco is only level 7 or so, but the SK was red to me at 34. once you cross the river, head left to the cave and your there )

At Kerra ridge, track down Melixis a Kerran you will trade you for your Guk items. You should now have a copper, silver, gold, and platnum ring.

Now head to Qeynos and enter the sewers through the pool in front of Crows. Your goal is to find Vin Moltar, an NPC that wanders around. You can kill him or give him some rat ear pies and 3 bottles of Kalish. Killing him gives fraction hits to aot of stuff and I went from being indifferent to dibious, but its easier to kill him and make up for the fraction ( most people do this ). He drops the severed paw. Now, just put your rings in to the severed paw and press combinded and WHA-LA! You have a Paw of Opalla!

As for my luck:

Platnum ring: 10mins, lucky devil I was

Silver ring: It was on the ground, what more can I say?

Copper ring: You'll end up getting this 1 while trying to get the gold. Took me an hour.

Gold ring: This soab took me a total of 28 hours to get spread over 5 nights. Lost alot sleep *sigh*. But its worth it.

Severed paw: Vin was right there when I zoned in. 4 mins and I"m outa there with my paw.

Also, a mistake I made ( doh! ) Kerra ridge is not the island with the Kerrans on it when you take the Qeynos/Erudian boat. And due to the rareity of the guk weed, you should solo this 1. For druids, 34 is the bes time. You'll get some ( and I mean every little ) but at 30, roots are resisted more often and you dont have all the good DOTs, buffs, and regen =). Hope this helps, good luck all you Paw seakers =)

I was quite fortunate I believe:

Copper Ring: Given to me by a guildmate
Silver Ring: Retrieved from Blackburrow at 20th level
Gold Ring: 6 hours over 2 nights
Platinum Ring: 4 hours over 2 days
Severed Paw: 5 min in the sewers

Total time of about 10 hours

At 31st level I had no trouble taking down Gynok, even with a full blown train raging around me at the time. The Fungus Ancient on the other hand was a little tougher because of all his buddies. My first attempt here resulted in the death of myself and my partner. So we came back the next night with some reinforcements. During the four hours we spent here my group was 27 Cleric, 27 Warrior, 30 Enchanter & 31 Druid (myself). We had no luck getting the Guk.

The second night the group was 27 Cleric, 30 Ranger, 25 Bard, 30 Enchanter & 31 Druid (myself). The Guk Weed finally dropped after about 4 or 5 mutant spanwnings. During our time in Guk we also retrieved a Glowing Mask and Golden Rod for my enchanter partner and helped a friend get her quested Cleric Greaves.

The Paw can be a long boring camp. I got off very lucky but even in the small amount of time I spent, it was quite boring. The Paw is worth it though.

GYNOK does spawn still
# Jul 29 2001 at 10:46 PM Rating: Good
I was in befallen tonight, and Gynok does indeed spawn. I had the entire dungeon aggroed on me after I fell though the trap in the floor on the sedond level. Anyway, the mobs keep coming to us continusouly for about 30 minutes (I told you I aggroed the whole zone hehe) and then Gynok himself came all the way down to the 3rd level to fight us...he was aggroed on me all the way from the zone!! we got him easy, and got a plat ring.

so he does still spawn in the re-vamped Befallen.

Incidently, I like what the did to Befallen. the mobs are kos to anyone, whih forces younger players to deal with train issues and learn how to work as a team...or die.

Paw of Opolla

I finished this quest just yesterday and here is what I did:

First, read everything here and never talked to any of the NPC's about any of the stuff, why waste time? Instead I just went straight to Befallen, lucky for me Gynok was up and scaring all the newbs out, so I killed him quick with my 36 Druid and he dropped the copper ring. Waited about 4 hours while I killed everything in that popped out of the wall in the hall by the zone. He showed up again, killed him quick, and got the platinum ring.
Then I headed straight for upper Guk, no one was camping the Fungus Mutant so I ran down, as he is green to me, along with all the drones around, and I attacked him. He made a real quick lunch out of me. Hit me with Whirl til you hurl, while all the drones took wacks at me, I could not get a spell off to save my life. Very humiliating to be kille dby green mobs, and I almost lost my level. So, I asked for help. A 53 Ogre happened to be camping the Squire, and was just finishing up, having got his Runed Fork, and so I asked him if he could help a while. Turns out he had good faction with the Frogloks of Guk, not sure how, maybe from killing the undead Frogs in Lower Guk, but even so, he was so much higher level, that we were able to not aggro the drones - this is impossible if you are lower level and soloing unless you clear the room of the Drones and fungus warriors first. I didn't try that, but I don't think I could do that, not sure, because every 3 seconds one pops and runs to the Mutant. The Mutant himself pops exactly 15 minutes after you kill him.

So, anyway, I got help and after 7 hours of camping this shroom, I finally got the degenerated guk weed. I have to add though, this was the only part of the quest where I had to deal with possible ks'ing. Finally reasoned out with a guy that he better not, though I was getting pretty heated. I ran to go and help someone find there way out and when I came back, dude was trying to take the camp and saying that no one was there for half an hour. A lie. But no matter what, don't leave your camp for a minute.

Next, i went to Qeynos. EQAtlas calls the zone Qeynos Catacombs, but it is actually called Qeynos Aquaducts. facing the gates of Qeynos all the way to the left there is a part of the wall that has ivy covering it. Walk through this wall, it's a hidden entrance. Jump into the water hole and zone in. I camped Vin Moltor for like 4 hours and he never showed. Someone said to kill all the stuff that spawns, but I don't think that makes him pop. I went to sleep and logged in the next morning and poof, there he was. Killed him quick and got the container. Took a MerchantsofQeynos faction hit though. I am not a baker so thought, "hmmm, ***** the pie and I'll drink the khalish!"

Next the silver ring. There is an island of cat people that the boat from qeynos stops at, after it passes Erudin (apperently some people think this is Kerra Isle, because there are a lot of critters called Kerra ******* there, but don't be mislead, as I was.) The merchant there sells the silver ring needed for the quest for a small price, don't remember how much though. this is not where I got the ring though. I went to Blackburrow, camo'd and jumped into the water and got the ring, smiling and waving at the pirhanas as I swam back out.

Finally, went to Toxxulia, jumped on the little canoe and paddled all the way west, south a bit, to Kerra Isle. Tracked down Melixis, traded in my weed for the last ring, and voila! I am now the proud owner of the Paw of Opalla.

Thought for a few secs about selling it. 4k would be nice, maybe after a while though. I don't really want to spend another possible 12 hours doing this again. Although it could take less, and it could take more. The guy camping the Fungus Mutant after me got the degenerated guk weed before I'd even left the zone. No, I was not happy about that, but hey, that's the way it goes. Great for him, maybe Vin Moltar will give him some the lessons in waiting that the Mutant gave me hehe.

Hope this helps someone. Good luck )

One last thing, after you get your paw, don't forget to unequip it when you go to buy or sell something from a merchant, as the -5 cha does make a difference in the prices they charge and how much they pay for an item.

Getting to know Vinnie
# Jul 22 2001 at 11:22 PM Rating: Default
Decided I didn't want to kill Vin Moltor and take serious faction hits so I had a master baker friend of mine, Froni, make some rat ear pies. With the pies and three bottles of Kalish went to the Qeynos aqueduct through the north gate secret entrance and camped Vinnie. Didn't see him on my track but a while later a bro Hobbit shouted that Vin was up and I was able to track the bro and come to Vinnie. He wouldn't respond to my hails so I had to run after him until he stopped long enough for me to give him the pie and the bottles of Kalish. Hit the <give> button and the following ensued:

Vin Moltor says What are you trying to do, cheat me?! I need three bottles of Kalish and a rat ear pie before I'll give up the paw.
--this message was repeated three more times--
Vin Moltor says 'Ah. Come to ol' Vin, my dear sweet Kalish. Mmmm. And rat ear pie. I am going to eat and drink like a KING! Huh? Oh, the paw. Here you go. Hope it brings you more luck than it did me.

I got some minuscule xp, the paw container, and my faction standings with Merchants of Qeynos, Guards of Qeynos, Antonius Bayle and Coalition of Trade Folks all got better. My faction standing with Circle of Unseen Hands got worse.

So anyway that's the peaceful method of getting the Paw container. Takes more time and effort than the bash and grab routine but now I don't have to worry every time I go into Qeynos. Should also add that I didn't do any of the prelim. steps like talking to those rummies in the Fish Ale.

RE: A little help please
# Jul 22 2001 at 2:57 AM Rating: Default
Probably the easiest way to find the silver ring: Go to Blackburrow, jump into the main pool (look before you leap, it's a fun drop), swim to the bottom and look for a little baggie, that's the ring. Just pick it up. There are fish in the pool that will attack, I'd guess they're below 10th level though. I suppose you could camp the mutant fungus until you get the Faerix spores as well, but, well, why bother?
Some Questions

I have some questions about this quest.
1. Is the severd paw the paw you combind the ring in? (probably but don't want to combind them in the wrong container and loose everything)

2. I have been camping gynok for close to 6 hours now and have not even seen him spawn, does the platinum ring come off him everytime?

3.Why is the gold ring worth so much?)

Ive found Vin... what had to be done was kill all the rats, fire beatles, skellys etc to get rid of his placeholder... after that he spawned rather quickly. got him 3 different times to help another get em also...
Now I have the Paw and silver ring, and I am camping the Mutant Fungus in Guk... we killed em twice before I had to sleep. But not the drop neede....
More days camping ahead... does anyone know who\what is the placeholder for Gynok in befallen? and possibly his spawn time?

Thanks

I was in Befallen, July 15th, and my man Gynok spawned. I have seen him spawn 3 times (1 time in old befallen, twice in new) and each time it was in the same exact place. He pop right at the end of the hallway the leads to the first 'room' in Befallen. Once you zone in...follow the hallway and camp right where the hallway ends, he will pop ontop of you. The PH's were almost exactly 30 minutes apart. One was a iceboned skelly and the others were 'Mummies', can't remember their name.

I'm a 38 shammy now, but had NO problems camping entire zone with myself and my pet when I was lvl 34. I'd send trusty old Kobobn out randomly to wipe out everything in sight. No troubles at all.

My luck however...Once I got Gynok...he dropped a Copper Ring instead of Platinum...

Guess I gotta waste more days waitin for him...

Gynok and his PHs spawn at the very front, right where you zone in. The spawn time is 16 min and he is like a 1 in 8 to a 1 in 15 spawn. He can be easily soloed if you have a root spell.

This is a board for posting information about this quest/item, so why are there people posting saying you should just go buy something else, maybe some of us just enjoy questing... and as to why you need AC? apparently you havent done any dungeon hunting, have you, sometimes you need the AC to survive while the tanks pull a mob off you thats hitting you for 100pts and double swinging.

anyway, enough ranting, my question is, how often does the Decayed guk weed drop, in comparison to the bracket mildew
Gynok

I've heard several different variations on how to get Gynok to spawn. Other than dumb luck (zoning in and he's there) does anyone have a surefire way to do it? I've tried clearing the room, and clearing the floor. It seemed to have no direct effect on his place holder's spawn times as they just came and went as they pleased. Someone told me the ph was on a timer but that doesn't seem to be the case either...
I'm hoping to get the ring before they fix Befallen (anyone else notice it's back to what it used to be...they accidentally did that)..any suggestions?

Enter the sewers from the secret entrance. So if you're facing Qeynos gate turn left and follow the wall to the ivy walk through the wall and jump in the pit as soon as you emerge he'll be on track unless someone has recently killed him.
