Do you have to do the first parts of the quest (mik and the gem part) or can you skip it and start on the rings ect...

In the Fish Ale pub in South Qeynos there is a man named Micc Koter standing at the bar. His companion (whose name I forget) will occasionally mumble about someone "foolish going after the Paw of Opolla". When you ask the companion about it, he tells you to mind your own business, but Micc will tell him to behave. Ask Micc about the Paw of Opolla and he will tell you it is a magical item and it belongs to "some gnoll bitch". He will offer to tell you where to find it if you buy him a brandy. I had to buy 2 to get him to talk. He then says that someone calling himself Caninel went to find it in the Plains of Karana.
Caninel is located in West Karana, along with two named gnolls, along the mountains near the border with North Karana. When you talk to Caninel, he will demand 3 gems (a Moonstone, a Bloodstone, and a Star Rose Quartz) before telling you about the Paw of Opolla. He will then tell you about how when the humans from Everfrost first met the Blackburrow Gnolls, the Shaman Opolla greeted them warmly and had her hand cut off by Gynok Moltor. She placed a curse upon the Moltor descendants, the last of which can be found in under Qeynos. He tells you to ask him about the paw and also about the rings on the paw. When you find him (Vin Moltor), he will demand 3 Bottle of Kalish and a Rat Ear Pie for the paw. He will deny any knowledge of the rings and say that his father probably sold them, mentioning his father's travels in Odus. You can get the pie through a quest in Qeynos Hills, or you can kill him to get the Severed Paw. This is not the actual item, since it seems it is the rings that activate its magic. There are four rings that need to be put in the paw container and combined to get the true paw: Platinum Ring, Gold Ring, Silver Ring and Copper Ring. Look for rings with a XXX: +1 CHA: -1 stat. All four rings are known to drop from a mummy named Gynok Moltor in Befallen. The Copper, Silver, and Gold Rings can be obtained through the Shiny Rings quest in Toxxulia Forest which involves camping a fungus mutant in Upper Guk. The Silver Ring also appears in the lake in Blackburrow. Need all dialogues, /loc of quest mobs, missing quest items, faction hits if any, any other missing information. Okay he did exist. . . I killed him once many moons ago when I had the time to camp him. What I am wondering. . . where is he now. I went to befallen and cleared the zone about 3 times (only thing I saw were rats, skeles, necros and the lot) then got tired of the 5cp drops so I sat at the bone at the entrance for about 6 hours while I played another toon on the laptop not so much as a ph spawned? Could something be wrong?

Started collecting my rings for the Paw today got the guk weed, was pretty excited so off to Befallen I trotted on short gnomish legs to sit and wait for Gynokk. Spent about 90 mins there getting wacked on by all the inkies, and realized there was no PH spawn. I have also seen him many times before. first time I wanted to actually kill him though. I too ask the question is this now a broken part of the paw quest? since the change in befallen? guess I ought to make a trip to Mr. Bayles fine city and start from the begining....

Yes, he exists... I just went in there with a friend, and he was showing me where Gynuk spawns. The then killed the plagued rat, saying it was the placeholder for Gynuk, as we started talking... 16 minutes later, he pops! Killed him and got my platinum ring. :) He said to kill anything that spawns right by the entrance, or that you find wandering, mumbling about disturbing his sleep or anything similiar, because it's a PH for Gynuk. good luck, and happy hunting!

1st night-killed mutant 41 times its so called common drop guk bracket mildew dropped 11 times,degen weed never dropped. 2nd night killed it 43 times-dropped guk bracket 6 times and went 14 in a row without dropping it, no degen weed again. 3rd night-killed it 26 times- dropped guk bracket 4 times and got degenerated guk weed(looks like goblin skin) on the 26th kill. mutant spawns about every 17 min and i put 30 hrs in on this spawn. common and rare drop is a major understatement. i guess i got lucky with gynok- that one took about 10 hrs. eq needs to fix this one!

Gynok does spawn. I just killed him on "The Nameless" server after camping for only 2 hours.
I started camp at 430am CST and killed him at 630am CST.

Ok the description isn't very clear, do you even have to do the gems part or the part in Qeynos? It seems like you could just kill the guy with the container. Which also wasn't clear. Where is this guy?

Vin Moltar is the guy with the container. He is in the Qeynos Aqueducts. He was amiable to my human cleric. I didn't wanna do the rat meat part so I just killed him. It did lower factions with Qeynos though so I don't think you should do this quest repeatedly without raising your faction back up afterwards. He was green to me but I got a little exp. I'd say he had about 600-700hp or so. Two wraths, holy might, force, smite took him down. Not hard at all. The paw was right there. Just looks like a splitpaw but its a container. I haven't even talked to the first two NPCs the quest talks about because it seems unneccesary. I got the silver and platinum now just gotta camp that fungus mutant. From what I read, I'm sure that will be the hardest part by far.
Gynok was easy. I only wasted 3 or so hours on him. If I can give any advice for someone doing that part, it'd be to go on in the morning. It depends on where you live but I'm on the east coast on Terris-thule and no one even came in Befallen between 8:00am and 10:00am which made camping him easy.

I have been camping that bone for hours and hours and I haven't seen as much as a PH. What is up with gynok? Does anyone know? I am getting really irritated looking for him.

I took him down yesterday. So the spawn is'nt broken..
He spawns right at the entrance to Beffalen, just sit and wait for either him or his PH. Spawn rate is about 15 min.
Took me 5 spawns before he popped, so i got the ring in just over an hour.
Then i whent to upper Guk and took down the Fungus Mutant a couple times so i got the parts for the Copper and Gold ring. The silverring is just to go get in Blackburrow.
When you zone in there a hole with water to the right, jump down and on the bottom it lays a sack with the ring..
Then i just killed Vin Molter and got the container and vóila, i had my Paw :)

Me (a 30 bard) and 2 of my friends (32 wizzie and a 30 ranger)went down to camp the fungus mutant....well as we were fighting we pulled him to the corner not realizing that that corner had an upper level with about 7 froggies on it....all green to me but for some odd reason all of the fungus thingees tried to attack me and we got into the corner i mentioned earlier well too make a long battle short the ranger went low hp and froggies up top attacked us and we all died.....can someone please tell me what i did wrong? and where to stand(and also a good place to med would help out bunches too) to fight the fungus mutant? (i know the room well so just describe the spot..thanks for the help!)

As an aside for anyone who's wondering, the Fungus Mutant has fewer then 688 hp; he's green with exp to a level 34.
I recommend using Invis while camping him, as the fungal creatures in the vicinity will aggro you if they wander very near you.
If you're so inclined and the room is available, you might try taking out the shin lord in the room around the corner. By the time you get all your fungus specimens, you might have a chance to witness a Ghoulbane drop (or at least a couple silver-plated bracers).

you get moonstones by handing in gnoll fangs to the captain in Qeynos... he's standing on the balcony overlooking the arena...

I have been able to kill Gynok twice. The first time i waited about 10 hours until he finally spawned around 1 am in the morning. And lucky me he dropped the copper ring =( I then came back in a couple of weeks and after waiting another 10 hours i got him to spawn again. AND LUCKY ME HE DROPPED A COPPER RING!!! I was obviously very displeased with this so called rare drop being on him twice. in my opinion i think they should take the damn copper ring off gynok all together. Well i am done ranting now, so i hope you have better luck than i did.

Well the two guys in the fishes ale are conned dubiously to me and i don't know how to raise my faction with them. Any suggestions? (I'm regarded/conned as an ally to the guards from killing lots of gnolls in blackburrow)

I think they are Circle of Unseen Hands (Qeynos rogues). Kill Karana bandits...lots of bandits...who drop those nice red headbands...

Little trick for you guys ...I have been in befallen many times and well on the Sk side of the first floor where you get the wodden key I was colecting bone chips and came out of that section into the main hall what do you know the guy with the plat ring was walking by me so 2 spells and he was toast so the PH has to be in that room if it has a PH cause he spawned again when me and another was there today just on that one side =)

I finally got the Plat ring off og Gynok. I have camped him several times to get it with nothing. Hadn't even seen him. Then when they changed the zone back I went in and was camping him when I wasn't there more than 45 minutes when I was being hit. I thought it was another one of those annoying skellies when I saw him. I couldn't believe it. I rooted him and then backed up and zapped him twice. He was dead. And lucky me the plat ring was on him. So it is not un-do-able now.

I got the testament of vaneer in just few days and did not have to camp him at all. Just went and looked for dylin and if he was not there I left and came back. Playing the card game cost me about 3 to 5 pps. I played my druid lvl 24 and got it no problem.

I was camping babinsbort on the lowest level of befallen last night for cleric aromor quest icon.. while in my boredom I decided to run around and kill ph's on this floor for some of the other items. I just ran through the invis wall and some mummy started smacking on me from behind. I started casting expel undead and got the message that the spell only works on undead.. so I turn around and low and behold it was Gynok. I haven't seen any post here say he spawns anywhere but top floor.. maybe that's wrong? or maybe he got trained down there.. I dunno. He dropped the copper ring. Needless tosay with in 15 minutes of Gynok dying babbinsbort popped :) It was a good night :)

On the Seventh Hammer, Befallen has had an upgrade and it is a lot harder. The PH for Gynok is not on the first two levels, (i think) and even at level 40, it is proving difficult to kill everything (soloing). If anyone knows who to kill to activate Gynok (on seventh Hammer) then do tell.
For those on different servers, which haven't had the upgrade, there are no-more rats, skeletons, mummies, but a lot more tougher monsters. People have been camping Befallen for hours. What a waste of time.

Its not the impatience factor. It is the fact you have to tailor your entire day (or weekend) to camping an item (or 3) to get a decent priced paw.
I camped the Mutant for 13hrs one saturday, only to receive nothing.
It would not bother me if they made it a bit easier, and made it No Drop. Some things that I camp, I have no plan on selling.
I could have made the 3500pp it takes to buy this by fighting HGs in the same amount of time, maybe less...and receive exp- and a level or 2.....
Think about it....

Im a lvl 40 chanter and i walking walkng threw Uguk when i passes threw the mutant room. he was up so i llet my pet kill him :) got the deg.weed first time camped him another 16mins and got some mutant weed or something hehe it was great. the shortest camp i ever had

NOTE-- if you decide to bake a pie for Vin to get your paw container, be sure you have an open primary inventory slot!! If you don't, it may fall to the ground. Mine fell to the ground and disappeared. Maybe it went to a lower level or something, but it was definately gone.
I hunted some giant rats and baked a pie for style points, and because my Qeynos faction was already fried before. I ended up having to kill Vin Moltar anyway.
Ah well, the jerk kinda deserved it based on what his family did to the nice doggie shaman in the first place.

Somebody told me the plat ring no longer spawns on Gynok, but instead there's another item on the Mutant...has anyone else heard this or is it just a stupid rumor?

I FINALLY got the Deg. Guk Weed for the gold ring. After several attempts and the last being an 8 hour camp.
Call me what you will but 8 hrs. of just sitting isn't worth it for this or the Testament of Vaneer. Does Verant think we don't have other things to do? No wonder people come in and try to KS the camp out from under you ! !
I got the copper and gold ring off the mummy in Befallen, and that is was a so so camp. You wait right inside the zone and can see if the thing is camped right away. Unlike the mummy, for the mutant you have to zone in and make your way thru that horrible twisting and turning place only to find the mutant is camped. Best to shout if the mutant is camped before you get lost in there trying to find it.
Take enough food and drink for your camp too or have someone who can make it for u.
Just my 2 cents worth.
