In the Fish Ale pub in South Qeynos there is a man named Micc Koter standing at the bar. His companion (whose name I forget) will occasionally mumble about someone "foolish going after the Paw of Opolla". When you ask the companion about it, he tells you to mind your own business, but Micc will tell him to behave. Ask Micc about the Paw of Opolla and he will tell you it is a magical item and it belongs to "some gnoll bitch". He will offer to tell you where to find it if you buy him a brandy. I had to buy 2 to get him to talk. He then says that someone calling himself Caninel went to find it in the Plains of Karana.

Caninel is located in West Karana, along with two named gnolls, along the mountains near the border with North Karana. When you talk to Caninel, he will demand 3 gems (a Moonstone, a Bloodstone, and a Star Rose Quartz) before telling you about the Paw of Opolla. He will then tell you about how when the humans from Everfrost first met the Blackburrow Gnolls, the Shaman Opolla greeted them warmly and had her hand cut off by Gynok Moltor. She placed a curse upon the Moltor descendants, the last of which can be found in under Qeynos. He tells you to ask him about the paw and also about the rings on the paw.

When you find him (Vin Moltor), he will demand 3 Bottle of Kalish and a Rat Ear Pie for the paw. He will deny any knowledge of the rings and say that his father probably sold them, mentioning his father's travels in Odus. You can get the pie through a quest in Qeynos Hills, or you can kill him to get the Severed Paw. This is not the actual item, since it seems it is the rings that activate its magic.

There are four rings that need to be put in the paw container and combined to get the true paw: Platinum Ring, Gold Ring, Silver Ring and Copper Ring. Look for rings with a XXX: +1 CHA: -1 stat.

All four rings are known to drop from a mummy named Gynok Moltor in Befallen.

The Copper, Silver, and Gold Rings can be obtained through the Shiny Rings quest in Toxxulia Forest which involves camping a fungus mutant in Upper Guk.

The Silver Ring also appears in the lake in Blackburrow.

Need all dialogues, /loc of quest mobs, missing quest items, faction hits if any, any other missing information.

Pie and Kalish
# May 22 2002 at 12:32 AM Rating: Good
The Uncooked Rat Ear Pie needs:
1. Cup of Flour (purchased)
2. Baking Spirits (purchased)
3. Rat Ears (2, large rats)
OR
Giant Rat Ear (Giant Rat)
Combine in a Mixing Bowl to get Uncooked, with a 10 Dificulty rating, and I believe the Cooking part is Difficulty of 1, but do not hold me to that.
The Kalish needs:
1. Fruit (foraged)
2. Vegetabes (foraged)
3. Water Flask (bought OR combine 4 Pods of water (foraged) with a bottle in a brewing barrel (unknown diff, trivial at 36))
4. Bottle (bought)
Combine in a Brewing Barrel to get your Kalish, difficulty of 15.

I have finished this quest up to the point of the Kerra Island part of it, and this is all I have to do. Just get my gold and copper rings and I have my PoO.
Went to Melixis to give the Bracket Mildew and Degenerated Guk Weed to her, only to find I am Kos there.
This is all I have left for the quest. I dont know what to do to complete it.
Dont say get an alt to do it, cause the Degen and Bracket weeds are no drops. And it took about 4 hrs of camping the Mutant to get them, I dont want to do that again.
Anyone have any ideas on how a DE Cleric can finish this?

Any help is appreciated.
easy but got lucky heh

well got the container 3months ago and then had to travel. when i got back befallen is a bit easier, less train risky. so i camped him. got him after 2 ph spawns (about 15 min respawn time) along with the key. went to uguk and camped mutant and after 4 spawns (another 15 or so in between) got both drops. went to kerra island and got the rings. (btw tryed to kill the merchant that gave the rings and she just dissapears heh)well now i need to go to blackburrow and get the silver to complete mah quest. )
(yes i had to stop because circumstances wouldnt permit further play P)

Skipping Parts
# Apr 20 2002 at 10:41 PM Rating: Default
It's nice that people are able to skip parts of this quest, but if you didn't know the ending, it certainly wouldn't be a doable quest. I tried doing the quest from beginning to end, and Caninel is nowhere to be found in the mountains of West Karana. I dragged around a young ranger for the better part of 2 hours, tracking all the while, and no Caninel. I even went back to give Micc in South Qeynos two more brandies to see if that would make Caninel spawn, but nothing.
does anyone know ?

I, too, was lucky with the drops from the fungus mutant. I needed to kill him only THREE times to get both drops.
Paw of Opolla Details
# Apr 13 2002 at 2:01 PM Rating: Excellent
I just finished the Paw of Opolla quest and thought I would share my details with those interested. I was level 29 when I started and 30 when I completed the quest. I think I got pretty lucky in terms of drops and spawns though. Total time from start to finish was about 11 played hours (I can port too which helps). I started with the easiest pieces to get and worked my way forward. This is the order I did it in, though you can do it in any order you wish. I would think this quest could be completed by a group in the mid 20’s or soloed by someone in their early 30’s (because of the difficulty of the Fungus Mutant and his friends).

(1) Getting the Silver Ring
The Silver Ring can be obtained two ways: camping the fungus mutant in UGuk for a spawn or swimming in Blackburrow. I chose the latter since it was easiest. The Silver Ring can be found at the bottom of the "Pit" in Blackburrow. From the entrance, simply dive into the central pit area (hitting the water below). Beware because there are fish that will aggro all levels here (or at least me at level 29) though they are not hard. You will now be on level 3 of the EQ Atlas map for Blackburrow. The ring is on the bottom of the lake at loc 43, -58. It looks like a small bag. I have heard its spawn time was quick though I don’t know first hand since it was up when I got there.
Silver Ring: Magic, Lore, Wis +1, Chr -1

(2) Getting the Platinum Ring
The Platinum Ring can be found off a named spawn in Befallen. The spawn is a mummy named Gynok Moltor and he was dark blue to me at level 29. He was a bit difficult to solo but I did it. He is a rare spawn with differing placeholders. The spawn is located at the entrance to Befallen (just as soon as you zone in from WC). The PH will spawn every 16 minutes and walk from the zone entrance East and then South into the central lobby. His PH’s include: Giant Rat, Ghoul, Large Skeleton, Ice Boned Skeleton and probably others. I noticed, as did others in the thread, that some of the spawns speak (for me the ghoul, and ice boned skeleton) when aggroed, though they all don’t (what would a Giant Rat say anyway?). The Ghoul said, "Grrrraaaaauuuuugggghhh! You have disturbed my rest! Suffer as I have." The Ice Boned Skeleton said, "Areeeeewwww". I camped him for roughly 4 hours before he spawned (about 15 pops). He has about 900hp and is a melee type. If you have a damage shield available, it will help. Killing him yielded the Platinum Ring for me the first try, but others have stated that they got other rings in its place (including the gold and copper). A side note: if you plan on doing the quest version of the Paw container (below) rather than killing Vin Moltor in S. Qeynos, you can get Giant Rat Ears in Befallen for that part of the quest.
Platinum Ring: Magic, Lore, Agi +1, Chr -1

(3) Getting the Bracket Mildew
The Bracket Mildew can be found on the Fungus Mutant in Upper Guk along with the Degenerated Guk Weed (see below). The Fungus Mutant also drops the item for the Silver Ring (some kind of spores), though I did the swim in Blackburrow to get the ring instead (see above) as it was easier. Since the Fungus Mutant had many friends willing to fight with him, I had to enlist the aid of a few friends (can do it with a group of 2 or 3 at mid to upper 20’s). The Fungus Mutant was dark blue to me at 29, as were the Fungus Drones, and the Fungus Ancient (who was pretty tough). He was mostly a melee type with probably 900 to 1000hp. He spawns at loc: 614, 247 or #11 on the EQ Atlas map. He is on a 16 minute spawn timer. The Bracket Mildew is an uncommon drop (maybe 1 in 10 or so).
Bracket Mildew: Lore, No Drop

(4) Getting the Degenerated Guk Weed
See (3) above for spawn information. The guk weed is a rare drop off the Fungus Mutant as well. I got it my second kill, so I cannot really speak to its rarity. Some others on the thread lead me to believe it is maybe a 1 in 50 or so.
Degenerated Guk Weed: Lore, No Drop

(5) Getting the Copper and Gold Rings
To get the copper and gold rings you need to travel to Kerra Isle on Odus. The Isle is just West of the Toxx forest (across the water). Inside you will find the cat people. Hopefully you haven’t hunted the kitties because I don’t think there is any working way of improving your faction with them (there are quests that should, but I haven’t ever found them to change my faction message). You need to find the cat person Melixis. She is at loc: 527, 180. You can say, "what shiny tings" to her to get the information on the different rings. Saying, "what dull ring" will give you info on the copper ring, "what kinda shiny ring" will give you info on the silver ring, and "what really shiny ring" will give you info on the gold ring. Give her just the Bracket Mildew for the Copper Ring. Next, give her just the Denerated Guk Weed for the Gold Ring.
Copper Ring: Magic, Lore, Sta +1, Chr -1
Gold Ring: Magic, Lore, Dex +1, Chr -1

(6a) Getting the Paw (container) - Negative Faction Hit with Qeynos Guards
You now have all the rings. You just need to combine them in a container (which is the Paw in this case). You get the Paw from Vin Moltor in the South Qeynos Sewers (Qeynos Catacombs on EQ Atlas). You can either kill Vin Moltor to get the container (supposedly) or do a quest. I did the quest as to not take the faction hit on the Qeynos Guards. Vin is located by Bait Masterson and the Investigator (laying on the ground bleeding) in the Aquaduct system under S. Qeynos. Vin spawns at #1 on the EQ Atlas map but walks (or runs sometimes) around. I found him at loc: 804, 68. He was blue to me at level 30 and looks like a beggar. If he is walking or running you need to hail him to get him to stop. I don’t know his spawn rate or rarity since he was up as soon as I walked in. Note: since the Paw is a container make sure you have room in your primary inventory (not a container) to loot into.

(6b) Getting the Paw (container) - Quest Version, No Negative Faction Hit
See 6a for Vin’s spawn location. Stop Vin and say, "what about the paw" for information. The quest requires 4 things: 3 bottles of Kalish and 1 Rat Ear Pie. To make Rat Ear Pie you need Giant Rat Ear, cup of flour, and baking spirits. You can buy all the supplies for making Rat Ear Pie (except the Giant Rat Ear) Voleen’s Baking Goods in South Qeynos, loc: -152, -245. I talked with merchant Karn Tassen. Buy the flour, spirits, and a mixing bowl. Combine the Giant Rat Ear, cup of flour, and baking spirits in the mixing bowl to yield and Uncooked Rat Ear Pie. I don’t know the skill level needed to make the pie. It worked for me the first time with a Baking Skill of 135. Now put just the Uncooked Rat Ear Pie in the oven in the shop and combined to make a Rat Ear Pie. I got the Kalish from a friend but the recipe on EQ Traders is: 1 foraged fruit, 1 foraged vegetables, 1 water, and a bottle. It trivials at 30 so it should be very easy to make. Craft 3 bottles of Kalish. Once you find (and stop) Vin Moltor give him the Rat Ear Pie and 3 bottles of Kalish (unstacked, one per slot). He will give you the Paw. Note: since the item is a container make sure you have room in your primary inventory (not another container) for the Paw.

(7) Making the Paw of Opolla
Simply open the Paw (container) you received from Vin Moltor (above) and place each of the four rings: copper, silver, gold, and platinum and hit combine. Congratulations!! You have your Paw! It looks like a paw in the inventory and a doll on your character.

Paw of Opolla: Magic, Lore, AC9, Sta +5, Cha -5, Wis +9, Agi +9, Mana +5, Sv D -5, Cleric, Druid, and Shaman Useable, Race ALL

That said I have camped the fungus for 4 hours and have recieved the weed (once), mildew (3 times) and spores (once). 1 in 5 kills dropped a part.

KoS
# Mar 28 2002 at 12:05 PM Rating: Decent
I hunted on Kerra Isle for about 5 levels. The 20% experience bonus there was just too good to pass up. Obviously the Kerrans don't think very highly of me for this reason.
Does anyone know if it is possible to complete this quest with KOS faction? I realize that I may just be out of luck on this issue and, if so I have no regrets (gained 5 levels there in a week), but just thought I'd see if anyone knows a way around the faction issue before I give up on the quest.

Maybe you should try using Wolf Form (druid), Bear Form (Shaman), or getting someone to cast Shared Wolf Form (Druid level 39 can do this)

Good idea, unfortunately Kerrans loath illusions of all kinds and this will make even those who would otherwise be amiable KOS. Thanks for the suggestion though.

So in case you havn't figured it out. I'm done with the quest. I've spent over 6 months on this quest, granted not everyday. Partly due to the Fungus Mutant, I killed him 120+ times and finally got the Degen. Guk Weed. I was a bit lucky in the beginning though, I camped Gynok for 12 hours straight and got both the Plat. and Copper rings from him. But I've finished, now on to the next quest! Hmmm. I need a new weapon.

You are in the right area and he is a rare spawn, I just kept checking everytime I went to Qeynos instead of "camping" him and found him there several different times.

I've been hanging in the Q-sewers for two days and haven't even seen trace of this guy. I gave the two brandies to the guy in Fish's and he told me to go to the Karanas, which I did nut couldn't find the guy with the Gnolls either. (But I didn't try too hard...)

Where is Vin? I saw some Investigator in the sewers where I thought he should be, so I killed him, but still no spawn...

Any help?
Degenerated Guk Weed Drops
# Feb 18 2002 at 6:45 PM Rating: Decent
I just came from finishing my paw. The mutant finally dropped the weed on the 6th kill ( That brings the total kill 35) That's abou 11-12 hours camping him total.

I bought the platinum ring for 100pp, but everything else I had to get for myself, I really recommend trying to buy at least one of the rarer drops (plat or gold ring), but you can do it without buying those rings.

Good luck to everyone who does this quest, and watch out for the Fungus Ancient, his magic resists are high.

Ok so I went to start on this quest, and what better place to start than in Befallen? 5 minutes after I got there, Gynok spawned! But, due to Murphey's Law, he only dropped a copper ring. 3.5 hours later, I was just about to leave, and lo and behold, Gynok spawns with my beloved platinum ring! Whee!
Vin Moltor Question
# Jan 31 2002 at 12:51 PM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know if Vin Moltor has a placeholder, and if so what it is? I've been in the Aqueducts looking for him and have yet to see him on track.

Also, anybody know about what level he is? I'm a level 29 Druid, and I have a 32 Warrior friend who will probably help me out, so I'm pretty sure I can take him, I'd just like an idea of what to expect.
RE: Vin Moltor Question
# May 02 2002 at 10:34 AM Rating: Default
For Vin MOltor I just killed everything that wandered around near the entrance, mostly rats... about 5 minutes later Vin Moltor came prancing down the hall way from directly ahead of me. Look at the eqatlas maps... he really does spawn right there http://www.eqatlas.com
RE: Vin Moltor Question

Don't know what his placeholder is but he conned light blue to a level 34 druid. Me and a 34 monk guildie of mine took him out with no problem. I don't believe he casts so even solo you can probably root and nuke him.

lucky
# Jan 29 2002 at 1:56 PM Rating: Default
I must have gotten very lucky. Was jumped by the named DE in the common lands and ran over to befallen just to zone him. (I'm a cleric and couldn't keep up the damage ratio he was) I zoned in at about half life and was simply sitting there getting mana back. Less than a minute after zoning in I started getting hit, getting hit very very hard that is.

I stood up and spun around and couldn't believe who I was looking at. I began to cast smite on him which worked really well, but when I got down to a bub of mana I had to start rooting and call in some help. A 53 druid I know zoned in and killed him with one spell.

Only had the plat ring, and a wodden shield on him.
answers to some questions
# Jan 28 2002 at 2:07 PM Rating: Default
Just to answer some of the questions I have seen on here... We never went to the guy in NK. Just headed straight to Befallen. My druid friend who was helping me told me to keep the rat that spawns on the first lvl by the wall killed. I then would sit and watch the hallway where you zone in. Approx 15 mins later something would spawn in that hallway and would always come straight for me. I did see that GRRRR.... message a few times and not have Gynok spawn. We just made sure to keep the top area clear of spawns and it was not long (about 2 hours the first time and only 20 mins the second) to have Gynok spawn for us. We got the plat ring both times but I did talk to some other people who did get a copper ring off him. Just my 2cp.

Within the universe of Firiona Vie, I started this quest at the 24th rank and completed it at the 30th. I believe that you must complete it by your 31st level or the gods will not allow Gynok to drop the platinum ring.

Only additional comments that I would make that I have not found elsewhere in this bundle of scrolls is that you will need to know a master baker or become one for the rat ear pie. In my case, I was able to call on the services of a fellow Band of Dreamers, Waze Ropenwrangle, who whipped up the pie AND as a master brewer made some Kalish for me!

It took a lot of patience to solo camp gynok, the Befallen mummy, for hours at a time over days. I did not attempt to clear the area of anything but simply camped the entrance where the gods cause a new beast to spawn every 15 minutes. I easily defeated Gynok at the 30th rank.

The camp of Upper Guk was fun but required the assistance of my friend, Kaputo, a 32nd rank paladin. We camped in a jagged rock cleft on the far side wall of the Fungoid area. It took only a couple of hours to get the Fungoid Mutant to drop the weed. The mildew was a relatively common drop. I strongly suggest that you not kill as much as one froglok prior to doing this quest! I was able to wander the Upper Guk dungeon freely because I had not harmed any of their fellow amphibians. However, your faction with the froglok will go down as you hunt the fungoids. I don't think I will go back in search of the ancient crocidile without being camoflauged!

Finding the silver ring at the bottom of the pool in Black burrow was easy.

Overall, this was a worthwhile quest. Since I already have quested the Testament of Vanear, I can now hold +19 wisdom while healing my group!

May the gods bless your hunts and bring you brave companions and fair weather to assist your quests.

I'm a level 44 druid and I got the platinum ring on my first kill of him too ( guess I was lucky that I got it on frist try ). But a level 44 can get the platium ring.
