This task unlocks after you have completed "The Mucktail Quarry."
Scout Zerak may be found at -1485, +2105. You say, 'Hail, Scout Zerak' Scout Zerak says '______! Thank the gods! I need your help here! I'm badly outnumbered by these [gnolls].' You say, 'What gnolls?' Scout Zerak says 'There, to the south. . . Do you see them? The Mucktail Gnolls camp amongst those rocks.' You have been assigned the task 'The Mucktail Mines'. Scout Zerak says 'Pit Boss Scar is the leader of the Mucktail gnolls. He holds our Ambassador captive deep in the mine tunnels to the south. Scar hopes to collect ransom from Crescent Reach. Bah! He will get no such bribes from us. Lead a foray into the mines and put a stop to Scar's dreams of ransom money.' Kill 10 a Mucktail miner 0/10 - Blightfire Moors Mucktail miners are located inside of the mines south of Scout Zerak. Rescue Ambassador Orren 0/1 - Blightfire Moors Ambassador Orren can be found in the eastern most mucktail mine at /loc -2470, +1535, -75. Hail him and you'll receive the emote "You cut the Ambassador's bonds". The task updates after that. There is no dialogue with the Ambassador. Kill 1 Pit Boss Scar 0/1 - Blightfire Moors Pit Boss Scar is located in the middle gnoll mines at /loc -1995, +2560, -35 with two "a Mucktail guard dog". He hits for a max of 76 damage. Upon his death he drops 3 Scar's Shattered Shield. Loot 1 Scar's Shattered Shield from Pit Boss Scar 0/1 - Blightfire Moors Deliver 1 Scar's Shattered Shield to Zerak 0/1 - Blightfire Moors Upon turning in "Scar's Shattered Shield:" 'Excellent work,' Scout Zerak says as he watches the gnolls via a spy glass. 'You have neutralized the Mucktail threat and sent the gnolls running. I can finally return home! If we ever bump into each other again in Crescent Reach, remind me I owe you a beer!' Your faction standing with Circle of the Crystalwing got better. You gain experience!! Ive been waiting for almost an hour for Scar's to spawn WTH????? This is a low level quest it should be taking this long for a quest dependent mob to spawn!

What's the spawn time on this guy.
Did this Quest for my Warrior October 2007, a very nice 1hb weapon, easy and quick to complete but as noted it is only good for Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Bard, Rouge and Beast lord. Although the quest is doable by any class the reward only works for those six classes. Bit of a shame, I was looking for a nice weapon for my cleric as well. With those stats and delay you'll probably drop 1,500 pp or more in the Bazaar.
