I was able to get the task @ level 68. I have made the return to Orenu yet to drop off the chest. Have to wait for the guards to be moved / deactivated.
I tried the Goblin shroud as well, still KOS to Gate Guards
Also, I died when opening the chest. I got the cursor loot, which was still on my cursor when i died. When I summoned my corpse, it was there in inventory. I was afraid I would of had to do that part agin

I did it with my level 69 Necro using the goblin shroud. You can sneak behind many (all?) mobs that can see through SoS - just stay in their rear arc. Since the guards don't move, you can walk into the Black Legion camp unscathed. The only way you can get clocked here is if someone else agroes the guards, they run out and kill, then turn around and are facing you as you pass the gateway.
The Aug is listed as having recommended level of 65. I am guessing that is the minimal level at which the quest is obtainable, but I have no toons lower than 69 with which to test that theory.

Just to clarify... None of the MOBS in the TSS zones can see through a rogue that has SoS (Shroud of Stealth - an aa ability that is permanent) if they sneak/hide. I know this bc i have it and i have run thru the all zones like a drunken sailor and never once aggroed anything, including the guards at the Ashengate Fortress entrance.
I don't think the Shroud rogue has the SoS aa, therefore it can not use it. I think that the shroud rogue is just using Sneak/Hide which some mobs CAN see through. You will know if the Shroud has SoS bc when you con a mob it will say "Your Shroud of Stealth prevents you from being seen."

Got to Guards in direwind....They both con ATTACK.
I assume you have to get through the gate to get to location?

The guards can be deactivated using The Ashengate Seal, a quested item from Scout Zryan at the base of the ascent. If you wait long enough, sooner or later someone will come along and deactivate the guards (they turn light gray). The deactivation lasts for a tick or two, so you can follow then into the area.

The chest called "A wooden chest" is located at -224, -1063, 340 in Vergalid mines. When i /opened it, a brown box called "Gygun's Treasure Chest" appeared on my cursor, i did not have to loot the chest. (Which was good for me, i just clicked invis potion right away and ran off :p There were lots of mobs near, but i waited until the Caimans had wandered off a bit and didn't get aggro when i opened the chest.)
it is at NEG 340 height.

The location for Gygun Urulump is accurate, but this is not in the bottom right corner of the map. Its up on the platform just west of the basilisks canyon.
Btw i stood at Gygun for a few minutes while typing out some stuff, and he repopped after 5 minutes or so.

the 2nd part (inspecting the treasure chest in mines) rewards the entire group when 1 person goes down to get it. even if rest of group is at IZ

Required level of 58 is incorrect. I tried to get this task for my 63 BL, and was told that he had nothing available for someone w/ my abilities. Had no problem getting the task for my 2 lvl 71 toons

Assuming this will change You can Bind right infront of The Captain if you can get past the 2 Stone Guards.

I died trying to do this quest and lost my lvl 71. I immediately lost the task and couldn't get it back until I redinged 71.

IS THERE A WAY TO LOOT THE CHEST WITHOUT GAINING AGRO?
You can stay invis and use the inspect ability (that I've never found useful until now); this puts the item in your possession without actually opening the chest.
