Watchman Dexlin is located at -4149, +1200, +17.35 in North Karana, on the first floor of the tower before the bridge to South Karana.

Dexlin's placeholder is Bilbis Briar. Watchman Dexlin may spawn at 8 AM or 8 PM in place of Bilbis Briar after he despawns. Then he stays up for 12 in-game hours (36 minutes).

You say, 'Hail, Watchman Dexlin'

Watchman Dexlin says 'It is about time I met up with someone I can tolerate. Most of the residents in these plains shun gnomes. I woull happily leave if I could just find those [pesky skeletons]!'

You say, 'What pesky skeletons?'

Watchman Dexlin says 'I was sent here by the Gemchoppers to seek out a pocketful of skeletons. They are a creation of one of Ak'Anon's exiled citizens. He practiced the dark circle of magic and came to find the necromancers of Antonica. He created and imported undead brownies to this realm. We must find them to study them. I can't seem to find them! If only I could find a [brave fighter] to assist me.'

You say, 'I am a brave fighter.'

Your faction standing with Gem Choppers has been adjusted by -10.

Don't worry about the small faction loss, it's only a mechanic to prevent people of spawning 10 undeads throughout the zone only by hailing Dexlin. You'll get the faction back at next step.

Watchman Dexlin says 'Very good. Take this tin box. Fill each slot with the remains of the tiny undead, should you find them here. I know not how many exist, but I am sure that returning this tin box full shall suffice. Be quick, I have other matters to to attend to. I shall depart when next my sundial points to eight.'

You receive an Empty Tin Box.. At the same time, about 10 tiny skeletons spawn throughout the zone and roam. They show on track as " *a tiny skeleton " since they're loot-locked.

Find and kill 4 tiny skeletons and loot 4 Very Tiny Crumpled Skeletons. Combine them in the Empty Tin Box to craft a Box Full of Tiny Bones..

Hand Watchman Dexlin the Box Full of Tiny Bones.

Watchman Dexlin says 'Good work. Unfortunately, I must investigate other matters in the name of Ak'Anon. Here. You deliver the tin box to Lord Jenork of the Gemchoppers. He shall reward you. Be safe my friend. I must go now. Farewell.'

Narron Jenork is located in Ak'Anon at 847, -441 in the Gemchoppers Hall. He's a warrior guildmaster.

Hand Narron the Box of Undead Brownie Bones.

Narron Jenork says 'Wonderful! Watchman Dexlin sent word that you would be returning these specimens. I shall see that the Eldritch Collective gets them. For you there is a reward. Manik has donated a pair of Watchman boots!'

I did the tiny skeletons quest today, well as far as I could. I got the box filled in North Karana and ran back to AkAnon but found that Narron is not present in the warriors guild where he should be. Maybe when Luclin comes he will show up. Until then I will hold this box of undead brownie parts in my bank.

I actually did this quest in North Karana today and it worked fine. If you don't have tracking this can be very difficult because you can't see them, they are so small. You nearly have to be right on top of them before their name appears over their head.

Narron Jenork no longer responds to the keywords previously used to start this quest - "What Watchmen" or "Who is Dexlin?"

Does anyone know if the quest is still working? Dexlin usually spawns about once a game week so it may be a while before I can get any test data myself.

As of April 2, 2003, this quest was indeed working.

My druid was running thru North Karana when I caught Watchman Dexlin on track, so I ran to him, got the quest container and hunted down the tiny skeletons. As noted above, Narron Jenork at the Gemchoppers Guild does not respond to questions about Dexlin, but turning in the box that Dexlin gives back got me a nice pair of boots for a friend.

Narron Jenork also hands out the newbie armour quests for the Gnome Warriors, so I suspect that when they coded that, the verbal part of this quest got messed up. Too bad, but at least the quest works at the Dexlin end -- which is the most important part, I'd have to say.
great exp

as a 24 druid, I happened to notice Dexlin at the guard tower and did this quest start to finish in 15 minutes (though I would undoubtedly have given up without track to find the wee skellis).

boots aside, I got 4 blue bubs of exp for turning in the box to dexlin and then jenork, so this is definitely worth doing if you get the chance.

watchman spawn info?
# May 13 2002 at 10:04 PM Rating: Decent
Info on watchman's spawn? Any way to MAKE him spawn? I know he spawns in place of the merchant, but does so SOOO rarely...

I've tried talking to the guy in Ak'annon and initiating the quest...doesn't work
I've gotten people to kill the merchants, and just about everything around...nothing worked (tried everyone in tower, all forms of griffons, grimfeather, and lots of others)
I've return there every day (GT) to the place where the watchman appears for a total of at least 30 maybe-spawns where the merchant dissapears and watchman is supposed to spawn later, sometimes

I've seen him once, when I was level 16. I got 3 bone chips from the tiny skeletons with help, but then they all dissapeared and I've been hunting in NK ever since and checking every time the watchman is supposed to spawn...I'm now level 20 (have checked on where the watchman spawns every single time he was supposed to spawn while I was in-game, but have not seen him, 4 levels later, including much dying and thus loss of exp and thus more time spent in NK and waiting for watchman to appear. I know I'm in the right spot at the right time for sure. But is there any way to MAKE the guy spawn?
RE: watchman spawn info?

I approached Bilbis at 6:00 am game time. I bought and sold to him (as has been suggested) and the next time he de-spawned, little Dexlin appeared. I got the box from him, but there was a catch: The system was going down for a patch, and I had 15 minutes to kill the skellies and get the box back!

Well, I killed all four w/out much trouble, and got the box back w/ the game clock showing under 2 minutes. I camped and logged. Hopefully, when I log on tomorrow, I'll have what I need.

Back to the point: buying and selling to Bilbis seemed to do the trick.

Unlimited charges?
# May 11 2002 at 12:01 PM Rating: Default
I was grouped with a gnome once who I assumed had these boots. We would pass the boots around so that we all had SOW. If these were the boots than does that mean they had more charges. I don't know if there are any other boots that have this effect that can be used by multiple classes. Just wondering

Just one charge?

Can anyone confirm for CERTAIN that these boots are only one charge of SOW? If they are then it hardly seems worth it.

Does Dexlin spawn anymore. I have been sitting next to Bilbis Briar for two real life days now ( about 2 and a half weeks game time), without seeing Watchman Dexlin. Luckily(kinda), I have plenty of studying to do, so it is not a copmplete waste of time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can sometimes get Dexlin to spawn by buying and selling something to briar. last two times i tried that, Dexlin spawned soon after

Update:
He finally did spawn on a monday at 8AM. However, I first had to make a petition to have bilbis briar killed, as he had stopped despawning. Then after waiting for another week and a half(game time), I submitted a bug report and asked them to check the spawn history for Watchman Dexlin. 2-3 gamedays later he spawned, I killed a couple tiny skeletons and looted 2 others from the nice people that helped me. A port and a short run later, I now have some really nice looking magic boots.

Thanks to all those that helped me, the 3 GM's that I talked to and my calculus teacher for the homework that gave me something to do while I waited.

Had me fooled - GM broadcasting messages about things being different - blah blah blah - I thought this was part of a GM event.
I had a druid track me out to a tiny skeleton. After the kill, I sat there medding and 2 more agroed my pet - this was just north of the gypsy guard tower. So I quickly got all 4. Once you get a box of 4 bones - combine them and get another box and fill it. Once you have 8 bones - turn in your combined box. Then you can combine 2nd box and your all set for a 2nd pair of boots next time he spawns.

A bard can sing a Charisma song that raises a doubtful faction to amiable...thats how i got him to give me the box...have the bard do it and collect the skels or the charisma song raises faction for everyone in his party...be sure and play it each time you deal with Dexlin
where is dexlin?

i camped there for like three hours, and the damn bilbis briar stayed there every damn moment. when does dexlin come out? and where?
LOKK LIKE A PLUS BUT A MINUS
# Jan 02 2002 at 12:25 AM Rating: Default
IT LOOK LIKE A PLUS IN THE BOOK BUT APEARENTLY it a minus when you think of this it hader to put your faction up more than it is to take it doen.
DONT you think about this when u kill it goe way down but wen you kill for good you have to kill a lot.
Faction Hit ?
# Nov 21 2001 at 11:52 AM Rating: Excellent
I cmpleted the quest the other night and I had my log turned on. You do take a faction hit for spawning the quest but you apparently get it back. The text is below:

<When spawning the skeletons from Dexlin>

You say, 'I am a brave fighter'

Your faction standing with Gem Choppers got worse.

Watchman Dexlin says 'Very good. Take this tin box. Fill each slot with the remains of the tiny undead, should you find them here. I know not how many exist, but I am sure that returning this tin box full shall suffice. Be quick, I have other matters to to attend to. I shall depart when next my sundial points to eight.

<When turning in the skeletons to Dexlin>

Watchman Dexlin says 'Good work. Unfortunately, I must investigate other matters in the name of Ak'Anon. Here. You deliver the tin box to Lord Jenork of the Gemchoppers. He shall reward you. Be safe my friend. I must go now. Farewell.

Your faction standing with Gem Choppers got better.
Your faction standing with Merchants of AkAnon got better.
Your faction standing with King AkAnon got better.
Your faction standing with Dark Reflection got worse.
You gain experience!!

<When turning in the box to Jenork>

Narron Jenork says 'Wonderful!! Watchman Dexlin sent word that you would be returning these specimens. I shall see that the Eldritch Collective gets them. For you there is a reward. Manik has donated a pair of Watchman boots!!

Your faction standing with Gem Choppers got better.
Your faction standing with Merchants of AkAnon got better.
Your faction standing with Dark Reflection got worse.

So you get two bonuses with the Gem Choppers and one negative hit. Looks like a plus in my book.
that's a negative

the tinkered watchmen boots give 10 charges of Precision Mana Infusion (+30 dexterity buff), not sow and have nothing to do with this quest as they use fine steel boots as an ingredient, not watchmen boots.

#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 10 2001 at 1:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) to make the Tinkered watchman boots, you need to do the quest for watchman boots. The watchman boots (untinkered) are a component for creating the tinkered watchman boots. That's why there is only one charge of SoW, you're supposed to use it, then tinker it. Then, you just pop in a new battery when the charge runs out. hope this clears a few things up.
Dexlin despawn
# Oct 09 2001 at 6:22 PM Rating: Default
I just completed this quest last night afer spending quite a few hours waiting for Dexlin to appear. As soon as I handed him the box with the skeletal remains he despawned and was replaced by Bilbis Briar. Apparently only one person can complete the quest per time that Dexlin spawns.
faction hit
# Sep 20 2001 at 11:18 AM Rating: Default
Im sorry i didnt take the time to read all of the posts to see if this was already said, but the reason you take a faction hit for doing this is the same reason as the wall quest in RV its so you cant keep doing it over and over again
Dexlin Spawning
# Sep 09 2001 at 10:22 PM Rating: Good
Bilbis Briar is a merchant on the 2nd floor of the tower on the bridge to South Karana. He will despawn just before 8am, and respawn at 11am (unless he is busy fighting when he is supposed to despawn, in which case he won't despawn till the next day.) Watchman Dexlin sometimes spawns at 10am, in which case Bilbis will not respawn until Dexlin despawns, either at 8am the next day, or when someone gives him a full box of tiny crumpled skels. There does not appear to be any way to make Dexlin spawn. I had to do the quest over two of his appearences; it was 4 or 5 days between spawns. It may be a set number of days, or it might be random. Note that an EQ day is about 70 rt minutes, so it could be 6 rt hours between spawns, which would explain why people can camp him for hours and not see him.

The first time he spawned I went through the whole dialog and got the box, but only got 3 skels (too much competition from others doing the quest.) I waited for him to spawn again, then destroyed the box, and said "I am a brave warrior." He gave me another box, but the tiny skeletons did not spawn. At 2am I went back, and went through the whole dialog again. The tiny skels spawned; I suspect that they spawn when you ask "what tiny skeletons", so that's a key phrase.

The tiny skels are tough, hit hard, and resistant to root and snare. They may be underconned by a level or two. The ones I took on conned risky blue to my 18 ranger, but they were more like even.

Are the crumpled skeleton remains no drop? In other words, could a different race collect them and then a mule gnome with good faction turn them in for the boots?

I dont know if there no drop but if u think about u could probably have him collect them (if they are no droP) and have him give u the boots when hes done
tiny skellies
# Aug 20 2001 at 10:22 AM Rating: Decent
My friend told me that when he was camping at the gypsy camp in NK, about twelve tiny skellies kept on aggroing his group, one right after the other. They all dropped the tiny crumpled skeletons, but they didn't know what to do with them so they just destroyed it. He was a lvl 16 at the time and with a group of four they were easily able to take them all on. If I were you, I'd hang around the gypsy camp for a while. Their frenzy seems to cover a somewhat large area and will aggro just about anything.
