Find Pack Leader Orgak in the orc fort (located in the northeastern corner of the zone).

Unless you have sufficient faction from killing kobolds, you will have to clear the fort to safely talk to him. He is KOS, but won't attack. The kobolds (that you have to kill to raise your orc faction) in the NW caves of the zone are in the same caves as the cages and pups you will have to feed. Might make a label on your map.

You say, 'Hail, Pack Leader Orgak'

Pack Leader Orgak says 'What! Why you here? What you want with master of [wolves]?'

You say, 'Wolves?'

Pack Leader Orgak says 'Wolves! My wolves! Orgak the packer leader, Orgak [take care] of the wolves.'

You say, 'Take care?'

Pack Leader Orgak says 'Not Orgak's fault! Kobolds take wolves when Orgak out behind tree! Stupid kobolds eat wolves. You! You [go get] wolves for Orgak!'

You say, 'I go get'

You have been assigned the task 'Free the Wolves'.

Pack Leader Orgak says 'Yes! Yes! Go now. But you need [meat] for wolf! Give meat to wolf. Wolf then know you friend!'

You say, 'What meat?'

Pack Leader Orgak says 'Yes! Yes! Here is meat!'

You receive 3 x Meat for Orgak's Wolves. You need to travel to the far west side of the zone, and enter the western kobold caves. In the northern rooms are three cages with one wolf in each cage. Break open the cage, and hand each wolf a piece of meat. If there are no cages there, the task should update anyways.

  • Cages must be open in order to feed the meat to the wolves.

    Once the cage is open:

a captured dire wolf pup sniffs at the meat for a moment, then wolfs it down. It immediately looks to you for more. Realizing suddenly that it is free, the wolf bolts away at blinding speed.

  • After all 3 wolves are freed, you need to kill 10 Nightmoon kobolds. When finished, head back to Orgak.

You say, 'Hail, Pack Leader Orgak'

The kobolds will think twice before stealing from Orgak again. With the return of his missing wolves, the pack should be back to full strength again.

    Reward for the quest:
    - Direwolf Totem of Battle

I got my Direwolf Totem of Battle today by doing the following:
    1. There is no level maximum. A level 105 SK can get this task. Don't have to shroud down. At all.
    2. The task-giver is KOS, but won't attack you and is not attack-able. The name of his faction is Coldeye Clan.
    a. The kobolds (that you have to kill to raise your orc faction) in the NW caves of the zone are in the same caves as the cages and pups you will have to feed. Might make a label on your map.
    b. Need to be at least Dubious to request task. Here is a website explaining faction. http://wiki.project1999.com/Faction

So, after I killed enough, I got the task, ran back to the caves. It updates when you get to the cages even the cages aren't there. You don't have to open them. They are killabable, fed the pups, killed 10 kobolds and ran back for hail.

    3. I clicked the Direwolf totem and it gave me the familiar buff. It wasn't blocked by Knowledge of the Past or Soothing Breath because they are AA's now.

I hope this helps. Shrouding sucks. Especially since you can get over level 100 and wreck the whole zone for a bit to get slayer achievements while you're there.

    Getting the quest, no shroud
    # Mar 20 2016 at 11:18 AM Rating: Good
I found it easier as a 95 Monk, to go to Orgak, kill the 3 wolves with him, then sneak behind him. Hail and every time turns around, just go back behind him and follow quest prompts. Easy as pie.

This part is crucial. You can only do the hails/task speaking parts in sneak mode but from behind (as he turns around every time to answer your inquiry.)

    Solo'd

1.) Shrouded to a 70 rogue from Shroudkeeper Nisua in PoK.(Buy Innate Run Speed 5)
2.) Ran from PoK to Orgak in Icefall Glacier while using Hide/Sneak.
3.) Stood right behind Orgak (humping his ***), dropped hide (still be sneaking), and used this macro:

    Line 1: /say I go get
    Line 2: /say What meat?

4.) After I hit the macro, I proceeded to purposely kill myself to respawn at Nisua in PoK.
5.) Say, "remove" to Nisua to return to normal.
6.) Collect the 3 meats from the shroud inventory after you removed it.
7.) Ran back to Icefall Glacier as my normal toon.
8.) Killed the 10 kobolds and fed the meat to the pups.
9.) Finally, ran back to Orgak and just hailed him while invisible. (You do not need to be shrouded to do the final hail step.)
    10.) Profit

Hope it helps/clears up a few things.

The Sneak/Hide trick did not work today, he did not turn to reply to my hail just gave me the standard "I didn't know slime could talk...", "Is that your breath or did something die in here" replies. No other mobs alive in the area, tried the hail while sneaking from several directions.

Same story 3 days running now, 13th, 14th, and 15th. Pack leader doesn't even turn when hailed, just stands there unmoving and gives the same old I hate you dialogs.

It's not the sneak and hide "trick" you just sneak up behind him and start the dialogue, when he turns to you go behind him again to finish the dialogue. If you hide he will not respond to you.

Can no longer do this quest by Sneaking or Clearing fort. Faction IS now required to do it. Will update once I am able to find out @ what faction he will give task.

Edit: Ok, dont know what was up before, but tried sneaking again tonight and it worked perfectly. Use the steps as detailed below with the hotkeys. Got the task no problem.

All the posts about the "easiest way".

Just get your faction up with Orcs so you are not KOS to any of them and walk into the fort and grab all the quests there.

You get faction with Orcs by killing Kobolds and faction with Kobolds by killing Orcs in Icefall Glacier.

    Cages
    # Oct 15 2008 at 8:36 PM Rating: Decent
Easyest way to break caves is just find a spot where you wont get argo when not invis and there is one for each cage. then nuke the cage to break it, make sure your not targeting the wolf. after its broken then run up invised and do hand in then run and zone or until you lose argo.

Shroud trick apparently no longer works for this, which is really annoying. The selected text even in rogue shroud, sneaking and indifferent behind him all gets rejected.

I have tried just the trigger phrase, but also all the phrases for the quest, even just a hail. Guess I'll have to spend eons getting orc faction /sigh.

    Step One: Shroud To Rogue
Step Two: Possistion your sellf behind questgiver and to the Right if done right wont agro pups when drop hide
Step Three: Make hotkey (line one) /say i go get (line two) /say what meat
Step Four: Wait for Roamers to Turn Backs to you and drop hide hit hotkey and rehide
Step Five: Have a Pet Class freind invis and kill the cages one by one mobs will not agro pet killing cage
Step Six: Just Hand in Meat it wont drop hide so no training needed

getting it done solo with a 73 ranger
    # Apr 11 2008 at 2:53 PM Rating: Decent
got my totem last night. was able to solo it with a my ranger, except for the last 3 kobold kills, some friends came and helped.

to get the quest, i trained the mobs from the fort, running toward the steppes zl til i lost agro. then ran back to fort. i had all the dialog loaded onto 1 hotbutton. invis and sneak behind the quest giver. span the dialog from behind.
after i got the quest, i went to the caves where the cages are located. uninvis to train the mobs around the first cage. when you get agro invis again asap, the faster you reinvis , the less mobs that will hit you,run back toward the steppes zl. the mobs you have agroed will drag some of the others with them as they run past. you should loose agro before you get to the steppes zl. after you loose agro, run back to the cave and break the cage, feed the wolf.

    repeat on all cages.

kill 10 of the kobolds outside the cave where the cages where located.

run back to quest giver. invis and sneak behind him. uninvis and hail.

click the select option to get your totem.

    invis and then RLH

did this on my 73 ranger. wasn't too bad. but you need to be able to take a few hits.

Ok, I just got the quest with my 2 boxed 69 druid and 75 rogue. after many attempts, this is one way to get the quest:

    0. shroud to a gobby rogue, as described in posts below.

    1. have a druid ( or ranger ) pull and snare/root the mobs from the first room of the fort. it is about 3 pups and 2 tenders, and 3 more mobs outside that i had to snare and root on the glacier. this isnt too hard really, there is so much room to run. ( and if your 2 boxing like me, when all the mobs are snared, just invis and run your druid toward the mammoths so you can focus on the dialog on your other box)

    2. now drop hide and do the dialog, he will turn to you for each part, but you DO NOT have to wait for him to turn back, just run around the other side, with sneak still up, and hit your hot key for the next part of the dialog. with the room empty of mobs this is super easy. and safe ( beware of the lowfire who occasionally paths to room. and the elder driftwolf that occacionally paths through that room also.

    hope this helps.

1.) Shroud to level 65+ Rogue Goblin.
-Your main toon must be level 65+ as well.

2.) Go to the Orc Fort in NE corner of Icefall and stand behind Pack Leader Orgak.
-Remember to hide/sneak walking through Icefall and into Orc Fort, beware of named orcs standing at Fort entrance, they will see you and KOS.

3.) Have a friend/box pull all mobs in the Fort, make sure all the wolves are pulled. An FD class is going to be a GREAT help during this quest.
-The further the puller can pull the better (obviously).

4.) Click off 'hide' and hail Pack Leader, when he turns to address you walk behind him again and begin dialog. After you complete each part of the dialog, he will turn around to address you again, keep walking around to his backside to begin the next part of dialog.
-Hail, backside -> wolves?, backside -> take care?, backside -> i go get, backside -> GET QUEST -> what meat?, recieve 3 pieces of meat

5.) Once you have the quest AND the meat, return to hide/sneak and proceed to western most zone wall where the Kobold caves are located.

6.) Once at the caves, kill 10 Kobolds in whichever fasion you choose.
-Beware of a few wandering Kobolds that exit the cave. I cleared all the Kobolds outside of the caves which ended up making the pullers job easier later. You may kill the Kobolds before freeing the wolves, I did it this way and it worked perfectly.

7.) Once the cave entrance is cleared and you have killed your 10 Kobolds, proceed into the caves under hide/sneak. There will be 3 caged wolves located in 3 seperate 'rooms'. One in the western most section of the caves, one immediately to the north of the entrance and another futher north into the caves. Hide/Sneak your way to one of the cages, target the cage and then have your puller empty the room. You will need to melee/backstab the cage open so your puller will need to pull them completely out of the cave for a minute or so. Once the cage has been busted open, return to hide/sneak and give 1 of the meats to the wolves. Repeat this process for the other 2 wolves.
-There are two named mobs that DO NOT aggro you, they are quest mobs so you do not need to pay attention to them (Verkorn and War Master Brutak). I did not encounter any other named mobs in the caves but if any are there you might want to assume they can see invis and will aggro you.

8.) Once you have finished all the tasks (killing 10 Kobolds and freeing the wolves) you will need to return to the Orc Fort and hail the Pack Leader.
-You may finish this part in hide/sneak form and do not need to be behind his back.

9.) Recieve your Direwolf Totem of Battle and rejoice! Return to PoK and celebrate your victory of l33t l00tz with your friends, groupies and guildmates. Make sure you take care of your puller as well.

10.) Remember, this is a 70+ required item to use so you will not be able to use it until you are that level.

*This is the exact method I used on Tribunal server on Tuesday, November 7th, 2007 with my 66 barb/zerk. My group consisted of an awesome 75 monk, a 66 cleric for any rezzing needs and a 75 mage for burning down the Kobolds faster. Big thanks to Shingy (monk), Drunkirishgirl (cleric) and Danrahl (mage)!

The first time I attempted this quest I made one /say macro with all the dialog however it didn't work for me. If you have the time, I suggest doing each piece of the dialog. However, if whomever you had pull the room did a sloppy job you could attempt to use a single macro.

when you turn back normal, any items on your shroud (that arent shroud items) are placed in your guild bank for 48(?) hours. you're made very aware of how to get your items at that time.

Go figure all the bloody bugs I've reported, and I know y'all have reported, and those aren't fixed, but this feature is hacked by SoE to fail. I presume to win this now requires clearing the mobs. SoE is stuff with pissants, if I knew them personally, I'd stuff coal in their stockings!
    Dire Wolf Pups
    # Nov 22 2006 at 9:20 PM Rating: Decent
As a Ranger you can cast your half second nuke on the cage, it only takes one to destroy it, outside of aggro of the kobolds and hit innate camo before they ever get aggro on you. Use sneak to get behind the wolf pups and give them the meat and hit innate camo again right away.

You have to either drop camo or left click on the pups twice with the meat on yer cursor to be able to trade with them if you leave camo on. (You can't trade while invis, first left click breaks invis, second opens trade)

I jus' completed that part of the quest without ever gettin' aggro once.

All the cages and kobolds are positioned jus' right to be able to nuke an' sneak around. one of the wolves was facing me when I turned in the meat to him an' he didn't aggro.

Of course I do have an' improved range IV item, so that may have helped. I jus' stood in the halways between the rooms to cast on the cages.

I just did this last night.
    1. Shrouded to lvl 70 rogue, (get run 5).
    2. Make hotkeys for the two things you need to say.
    /say I go get.and /say What meat?
    3. Use hide/sneak to go behind the Pack Leader. Have Pack Leader targeted.
    4. click off hide
    5. hit your "say" hotkeys
    6. Hit your hide button.
Pack Leader gives the quest, gives the meat, AND insults you. There weren't many mobs in the fort when I did it. Didn't see anyone clearing the area, so maybe I was just lucky. No deaths.

failsafe way, 3 line hotkey, just make your first ability button 1
    /doability 1
    /say whatever
    /doability 1

this will toggle your hide state, say the statement, then toggle your hide state back. sneak/hide up to BEHIND quest giver, click hotbutton, he'll face you and give you quest. go behind him again and click one that does gimme meat, viola.

I got to max orc faction after killing roughly 200-250 kobolds. Max faction is indifferent and faction song knocks it up to amiable. It probably takes less to actually get to max faction as I had killed maybe 100 orcs before I started killing kobolds.
