Demiplane Access #2: Check Out a Library Book

Pre Requisite: Access to Dreadspire Keep.
This task is the second step in the process of obtaining a Monocle of Blood, the key to the Demi-Plane of Blood. To request this task, you must first have looted a Shard of Mystical Glass in Dreadspire Keep. They drop most commonly from shadowmane researchers in the lab where Vivisector spawns. Take the shard to Treddlehoop in Corathus Creep. When you hand him the shard: Treddlehoop examines the shard of glass carefully through one of his many monocles. 'This is an interesting looking material. It's made in the form of glass, but I don't think it really is glass. It might make suitable material for a lens, if I knew enough about it to work with it. Perhaps you could go back into the Dreadspire and see if you can find out how this was created. With the right information this could be a great find. If you find information that looks promising, give it to me along with the polished shard. I'll need both if I'm going to understand what it's made of. You receive the shard back and are offered the group task Check Out a Library Book. The book you need is obtained from The Official Cataloguer, behind the locked door in the library. At least one person in the group needs to have completed the Frustrated Functionary task to be able to open the locked door. Note that there are some KOS mobs in the room with The Official Cataloguer. You can talk to him from a good distance away to avoid aggro. You say, 'I seek a study of mystical vision' The Official Cataloguer waves his arms and a book appears in his hand. 'This is what you seek. We have several copies, but you should return it the moment you are done.' You receive Study of Mystical Vision. Return to Treddlehoop and hand him Study of Mystical Vision and Shard of Mystical Glass. Treddlehoop spends a long moment searching through the book. He shakes his head several times and mutters often. Eventually he speaks. 'Well, this is a bit disturbing. If this book you've brought is to be believed, this glass is made of lenses from the eyes of hundreds of living creatures. I find that disturbing but also a bit fascinating. I think I can improve this glass by coating it with some [special ingredients] that are mentioned in this book. When you are ready to try to gather those ingredients, let me know. Make sure to bring that Polished Glass Shard with you.' Everyone in the task receives Polished Mystical Glass Shard. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Returning player working on this quest and it seems that something has changed... Treddlehoop is kindly to me, he still refuses to accept the "Shard of Mystical Glass" from me. He does ask to see it, but when I give it to him, he tells me he doesn't need it and gives me a comment along the lines of "do I know you?" which seems to indicate a faction need, but.... ?
I finished #1 and frankly, have finished #3, #4, and #5.
I'm hung on this one step and a petition did rule out a bug in the quest, so I'm thinking "amiable" is no longer adequate and it seems that "kindly" may not be, either (perhaps closer to "warmly" or "ally" now? is there any way to find out?)... if anyone can offer insight or assistance on what I should do (other than grinding faction like sandpaper), I'd appreciate the information.

After going through the same frustrations as you, I discovered that the problem is not faction, but rather that you need to do the Dreadspire Keep access quest first.
Doing the access quest also includes going to the door and clicking on it, after getting the monocle. After you see the message about Treddlehoop telling you "you'll never know when you need such a thing", you'll be able to give him the shard.

If you shrink twice, you can peer through the wall and talk to the catalouger without ever having to go into the room =p Once you peer through the wall, /tar the and then hail away for your piece.

I just got a shard off of the Drachnid Researcher, I assume they drop off of all of them.

"Check out a Library Book" is the name of the task Treddlehoop gives you when you hand in the Shard of Mystical Glass.
