Find a zombie braineater in Kithicor Forest. It is located in the far northwestern corner near the Rivervale entrance.

You say, 'Hail, a zombie braineater'

a zombie braineater says '[Brraaains?]'

You say, 'Brraaains?'

a zombie braineater says '[Brains!]'

You have been assigned the task 'Brraaaains...'

You say, 'Brains!'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Rivervale: Zombie Invasion.

Kill 80 Halfling in Rivervale and collect their brains 0/80 (Rivervale)

You will spawn as a level 30 zombie braineater in the city of Rivervale. You start out with 15 AAs and have the abilities Creeping Plague (a self-buff slow proc) and Lesion IV (a DoT). You have in your inventory Rot Grubs (food) and Embalming Fluid (drink).

Each Zombie can control up to five other zombie pets, which you can summon by placing "A Halfling Brain" in "A Zombie's Guide to Procreation" and hitting combine. This consumes the brain and gives you "a mindless zombie" as a pet. The pets are simliar to Enchanter pets or mage swarm pets, in that they only will attack a mob if you are attacked, so if you want the enemies to drop, makes sure everyone gets hit at least once. Each mindless zombie can be equipped as normal, and can be particularly useful when given a Spear and Small Shield, dropped by the Deputies.

The halfling brains have a second use, which is a 500 hitpoint heal. This has a 4.0 second cast time and isn't reliable in a fight due to the zombie's non-existant channelling skill.

While in the zone, you'll see panicked shouts like these:

Deputy Hobbson shouts 'I don't want to die!'

a Rivervale citizen shouts 'I found Hobbson! They ate his brain!'

a terrified halfling shouts 'They keep making more of them!'

a Rivervale citizen shouts 'Sweet Karana! His arm just fell off!'

a terrified halfling shouts 'Quick! Hit them in the head with a stick!'

There are several tough pulls such as the Cleric guild, which contains a few healers. Also, the Sheriff and the Mayor are in the top of city hall. There is also a named in the Fool's Gold tavern.

One of two rewards will drop: Either a Gore-Covered Tombstone Shard of an Ancient Amulet of Decaying Flesh.

Gore-Covered Tombstone Shard transmutes to: ???? (level 1-10), Jagged Tombstone Shard (level 11-20), ???? (level 21-30), Goo-Covered Tombstone Shard (level 31-40), Slime-Covered Tombstone Shard (level 41-50), Bloody Tombstone Shard (level 51-60), Rot-Covered Tombstone Shard (level 61-70).

Ancient Amulet of Decaying Flesh transmutes to: ???? (level 1-10), Silver Amulet of Decaying Flesh (level 11-20), Amulet of Decaying Flesh (level 21-30), Golden Amulet of Decaying Flesh (level 31-40), Platinum Amulet of Decaying Flesh (level 41-50), Defiled Amulet of Decaying Flesh (level 51-60), Vile Amulet of Decaying Flesh (level 61-70).

I tried accepting this mission yesterday and I wasn't transformed into a brain eating zombie. I think it's not working or I'm missing a flag or something.

Did you actually get the shared task? If not, you need 3 ppl in group to get it. Each needs the correct expansion, PoR. These should be the only reasons to not get the task.

Once you've gotten the task, did you try zoning in, by saying brains to the NPC? You don't zone into to the normal Rivervale, you zone in via the NPC. Once in the instance, you will be a zombie.

Please share how you complete this mission so easily. I can't even get half the kills needed before time runs out with my 5 bot team, which is prolly part of the problem but not the total reason I cannot succeed on this one.
Timer
# Oct 31 2007 at 7:36 PM Rating: Decent
I can comfirm the timer is one hour for this mission. We started getting emotes in yellow that were different than the shouts that go on throughout the mission. We hung out and it essentially told us we were almost out of time 1 minute before we would hit the one hour mark.
you sure?
# Aug 31 2007 at 5:54 PM Rating: Decent
You get horded with mobs if you take too long and yes they'll find you anywhere. You'll see some shouts at the same time. Last two posters it sounds like this happened to you. The mission worked fine not too long ago so I'm guessing this is what happened to you (see previous posts for more details).

Was 3-boxing this mission over te weekend. Was going along nicely and each char had a full group of minion zombies. After about 30 Halfie kills I get a zone message that the citizens were calling for help from the guards outside the zone.

After a couple of minutes I get rushed by 10 even con Guards. Very quickly wipe to them and respawn at zone in. The Guards follow to the zone in and continue killing. 3 more wipes, and I decide to zoneout to try and clear aggro only to get a mission failed message. I do not think that even with a group of 5 you could kill that many guards at once. Then, when they follow you to bind point to continue the slaugter makes it even more frustrating.

I think this mission is borked atm. Hopefully, the devs will look into it. Until then I would recommend saving you a couple hours of frustration.
Bugged
# Aug 19 2007 at 10:46 AM Rating: Decent
This mission seems to currently be bugged. I pulled a single mob that we'd pulled a zillion times before and it aggro'd mobs from all the way across the zone. Also when you pop at the entrance to the MM after a death all of the mobs in the zone run to zoneline at you. There's no way to kill 30+ mobs at the MM death pop spot.

Someone previously posted that you need PoR to do this, and I only have up to DoDh but decided to try anyway once I saw the nice AC aug reward. Well, unless it's currently bugged (there WAS just a patch today) you only need DoDh to do this mission. I plan to farm it for the aug for all my characters now.

Expansion tags on quests only indicate when the quest was introduced, not that the expansion is required (unlike on items).

Two of us in a group of five trying to get this quest had PoR, but not DoD expansions and were not allowed in.

Anyone have any idea if this how it's supposed to work?

Seems if it's PoR content, any one with PoR should be able to do it??

The labels on the site are a tad confusing. Expansion labels on an item generally indicate that the expansion is required for the item (if you obtain it yourself, as opposed to buying it in the Bazaar or something), while expansion labels on a quest generally indicate when the quest was introduced. You could have a quest set entirely in Velious content that was introduced during Prophecy of Ro (e.g., the Dain Frostreaver monster missions).

The mission is bugged after the TSS expansion came out.

If you die, you won't be able to interact with the mission; you cannot open doors, you cannot attack nor grab aggro... the only way to solve this is, log out and log back in.

I don't know why, but I am not surprised that the MMs are not working after TSS. I am getting a bit tired of the new expansion "surprises".

Petitioned, we'll see. Not that hopeful.

We did this tonight with a group of 3. We assigned one person to healing duty, then one of us built up a set of minion zombies, and then the other built up a set. While there was just one person with minions, it was straightforward: let that person take aggro so the pets would swarm the target, and the halflings dropped pretty quick even if they had healers nearby. Once we had two sets of pets, we just made sure whoever got initial aggro chose not to taunt, and the other person taunted until he got aggro so his pets would join as well. And of course, meanwhile, our "cleric" zombie maintained a stack of brains to heal us with. Once we had the swing of things, we finished the mission despite delays caused by a few linkdeaths.

We completely avoided the cleric and druid guilds. After clearing the entrance area in front of the cleric guild, we turned a sharp left and worked our way through the various rooms in the south, then the center of town, and worked north through the Weary Foot Inn and beyond. By the time we got back to town center we had two full sets of minions, and took the Fools Gold tavern by storm. The Rogue GM at the top was yellow but not too much trouble since we managed to clear all but one other halfling from the tavern before we reached him. When we came out of the tavern we saw deputies near the Misty tunnel which I'm sure hadn't been there when we passed the first time. So we cleared them, and then moved into the bank and city hall, and looted our 80th brain just before reaching the Mayor and Sheriff.

We almost blew it at that point, since one person wanted to kill the Mayor just on general principles even after looting the last brain, and the few extra minutes it took to kill him and the Sheriff almost meant we got caught by the reinforcements that arrive after one hour. We shuffled off to the exit and found the chest there, and looted our reward (at level 51, we got the Bloody Tombstone Shard, but everyone should also loot one Shard of Wisdom to get the xp for the mission), and reached the Kith zone line just as the reinforcements emote appeared.

One thing that we found confusing at the start was how to enter the mission. You need to say 'Brraaains?', which offers you the mission. The zombie braineater will reply '[Brains!]', but saying it doesn't do anything yet. You need to accept the mission and have everyone choose their monster form (there's only the one choice), and then say Brains! to enter the instance. (Apparently you can also say 'Ready' to enter it.) We actually got told that it was too dangerous and to try again in a moment; we think that was because the instance was still being populated, and we got in on the second try.

Don't be afraid to skip densly packed areas whilst your building your armies up slowly. Pick an MT zombie to get the 5 zombies out as quick as possible, with a second zombie as the healer. Store up as many as you can, as dying with no pets doesn't matter, but dying with pets can hurt your kill rate.
When comfortable with a few saved, have 2 MT zombies, with the 3rd MT summoning theirs as the first one's are decaying. Then the old MT goes on heal duty whilst building up their brains.
Aim is to continously keep building up brains till everyone's got enough for the zerg. Then get them all summoned, and hit the high density areas like the cleric guild.
The druid guild (field area) is easier to run along the left and into the field rather than pulling, or the pathing will empty the full house onto you, and even with all zombies out, a wipe is easy. Skip the top floor of the bank (reds and yellows).
Can be a fun mission, but it is repetative after a while. The fun starts when the zombie zerg starts.
Make sure you've time to loot and scoot the chest (pops outside the cleric guild), as taking too long, the guards will swarm you.

We got as far as 72/80 and then we got continually swarmed by Deputies and other halflings from directions we didn't even pull. Does this happen after a certain amount of time has elapsed or was it a bug? Even once we wiped they swarmed the zone in (so we had no aggro before they charged us).

The Female graphic mobs are the healers. Target a member and right click the brain to heal them, combine the brain in a box for a pet, each player can have 5 pets. The pet is like an enchanter pet and only attacks if you get attacked.
Lesion helps dps, and the haste thing does too.
Hilarious mission to do.I loved it.

PLayed it for the first time the other day, loved it as I am a huge Romero/zombie genre fan lol. The drop we got was called 'Vile Amulet of Decayed Flesh'. Name of item for a lvl 67 Bst that got it, not sure what the name will be when its maxed out. Not listed on alla yet. Its for WAR, PAL, RNG, SHD, MNK, BRD, ROG, BST, BER.
Race: all
stats when maxed are AC:18, STR DEX STA AGI +9, HP +130, mana + 120, END +120.

REcommended lvl 70, WT 0.8. Size:small. Slot 1, type 7 augment.

An upgrade for our BST, my cleric was drooling lol. Hope this helps.
basic spoiler on this mission
# Jul 01 2006 at 7:34 PM Rating: Decent
I did this mission last week. Aside from being completely annoying and mostly boring its not impossible.

The terrified halfings are your main healers and should be delt with first then move to the deputies as they hit harder and have more hp, and end with the rivervale citizens (who cast light healing and a some what small dot).

As for zombie abilities creeping plague like posted above is a defensive proc with a pretty good proc rate mod that slows what is hitting you. Lesions is a 43 point dot that is rather powerful.

My group (was 3 people who all 2 box) found that spawning the mindless zombies was a waste of time for the most part. If all 6 people assist one person and all hit lesions even the terrified halflings have a very hard time getting a heal to land before they go down. We saved all of the brains to use for healing and at the end we had 15-20 brains to spare.

Remember group leadership works even while in monster missions so figure out who has the most leadership points and make them leader. Health of targets target and group main assist are very helpful in this. The extra hp and atk helps out in survivablity and ablity to chew the halflings down a bit faster.

Due to how slow the zombies move there pretty much is no pulling, just rush into a room have one person do the lesions and have a good stock of brains to heal the party. Biggest problem is the fact the zombies cannot push past one another so if some one is in a doorway and not moving they are blocking all others from moving in or out to help the fight (lesions has a very short range).

It helps that there are far more halflings then 80 so you dont have to completely clear the zone. At the top of the fools gold is a yellow con npc who takes a long time to kill and unless your just really far ahead or only need one more drop he isnt worth going after.

Also this mission is limited to 1 hour. about 10 minutes before that hour is up you will start to see emotes about hearing the guards coming. When your hour is up 20-30 equal con halflings will rush your group and chain kill you. If you manage to kill one of them another one instantly runs in to take his place. When you see them run in cancel the mission or you will get stuck in a death loop at the spawn in point. Once all the zombies are down the guards will run over there and start to chew you up as you respawn back in.

Hope this info helps all of you looking to do this mission.

This is monster mission mister Snarlinarlen. This means you will enter a instanced version of rivervale as a Zombie with none other then you leadership abilities similar to your real toons abilities.
so no it is not soloable by a necro or any other class.
