This task can only be obtained by someone who has completed the Razorthorn access task "Become the Vessel".

It begins with Oathmir the Outcast at the zone-in of The Devastation.

You say, 'Hail, Oathmir the Outcast'

Oathmir the Outcast looks you up and down, taking in your weapons and instinctively gauging your ability. He replies in a somber tone. 'Hello. You are different than the rest of us here. You have not come here from the wall. You have somehow come straight from the world.' The outcast slowly shakes his head. 'You should leave this place before its nature becomes your own. I don't believe that you want to become part of the cycle here. Anger released upon others returns tenfold to the giver, they say. I have been in [the wall] and I will go there again, though each time it takes me longer to return, longer to fight my way back. I have been cast from the cycle. I no longer have enough rage in my heart. I [feel disconnected] from Her and without my rage and my desire I have nothing.'

You say, 'Why do you feel disconnected?'

Oathmir the Outcast says 'I am lost, but I feel that I have a purpose here. It is difficult to explain to someone that has never been part of the cycle what it is like to be taken from it. I have lost all rage and have been left with emptiness. I no longer feel the desire to be with Her in the tower. I felt the rage leaving me slowly from the moment I was chosen as Vessel. She touched me then, instilling me with her rage, but it did not feel right to me. It was somehow tainted, impure. I could not accept it and the moment I rejected her rage all of my rage started to flow away from me. Something is very wrong with our goddess. Her rage is no longer pure, though it may be my own heart that is corrupt. Perhaps you [can find] out what has happened. Perhaps you can get into the tower and find out what has gone wrong.'

You say, 'I can find out.'

Oathmir the Outcast says 'Take this chest to store any clues you may find. Return to me should you [need another].'

You are handed a Runed Silver Box and offered the choice of doing the task on normal or hard setting. NOTE: Loot tables are reportedly shared between hard mode and normal mode.

You have been assigned the task 'Samples of Corruption'.

The corruption spreading through the tower has affected some of the residents more than others. I would have you collect the blood of the most corrupt residents in the tower. Once you have filled the box wirg samples, return them to me so I might study them.

Enter Razorthorn, Tower of Sullon Zek 0/1 (Sverag, Stronghold of Rage)

This is entered through a door in the center of Sverag, the Stronghold of Rage.

Loot 10 vials of corrupted blood 0/10 (Razorthorn, Tower of Sullon Zek)

These can drop off any mob in the zone. Note: Mobs hit for a max ~1,200 and respawn. Respawns don't drop the Vials. Only originally spawned mobs will drop the item.

Every so often, "a shadow of rage" spawns and attacks the group, charming a group member as it does so. The charm lasts 2.5 minutes (or will be broken sooner if the shadow dies beforehand).

Seal the blood vials samples in the chest 0/1 (ALL)

Combine the blood vials in the Runed Silver Box to craft a Sealed Runed Silver Box.

Return the sealed chest to Oathmir 0/1 (The Devastation)

Upon handing in the sealed box:

You have done well. It will take me some time to examine these, but I can only hope they will hold some answers for the dilemmas we face.

"a crumbling chest" spawns with one item of loot:

Blackened Fury Forged Pauldron
Pitted Blade of the Fallen Lord
Rage-Scarred Gorget

Also, there are random rare zonewide drops in this task:

Flawless Pearl of Tranquility
Glyphed Stone of Animosity
Runed Stone of Wrath

NOTE: Loot tables are reportedly shared between hard mode and normal mode.

Progression

At any time after the task is complete you are able to hand Oathmir the Silent Harmonic Chime that is obtained after completing the three Skylance Tasks.

Oathmir the Outcast takes the tiny charm in his huge hands. He spins it slightly as it dangles from his thick fingers, staring at it intently.

"Yes, I think I understand. This is tuned to a place, but that place is not as I expected, much like my experience with Her. I think I can change this, make it more receptive to unexpected versions of the original place."

He takes the pieces of the chime individually and rolls them between thumb and forefinger. Each time he does there is a loud and visible explosion and a creaking sound. These explosions are contained within the thick calluses of the giant's finger pads. Oathmir hums throughout, a deep sound like distant earthquakes. Once he has done this with each he hands the chime back to you.

"That might work for you, though I'm afraid I had to crush the magic that was there before to make the adjustment".

Oathmir gives you a Twisted Chime.

Did it with
Warrior - 17.8/3.4 Unbuffed (2.0)
Shaman - 15k Mana Unbuffed (2.0)
Rogue - 12k Unbuffed (2.0)

Died once cause i thought It'd be funny to see if i could kill my warrior with teh rogue, easy to say i did ;p so CoW'd buffed pulled had 2 - 3 at a time, did no probs, Kept Sloth on me at all times and When the War got charmed I'd tank with rogue heal with sham.. rogue get charmed kill with war, sham got charmed just killed the mob np with no heals. Hardest part is the Bolvirks, i noticed they hit twice as hard as others so switched to shield burned with rogue np, GL

Other than progression, why would a caster wanna do this? Or is the website missing a few items that may actually help out casters?

One thing to keep in mind is trash mob aug drops. There are a lot of different augs from this zone. You'll see one on average every 1 or two missions. So unless you farmed every CoA, DPoB, DoN, and PoR raid augs. Odds are you'll gladly sport one of them. However they are all/all (at least the three different ones I seen) so expect other people to roll for the augs as well. They range from 65-80HP/Mana/Endurance plus a few other nice modifiers.

As you said, it's a required mission for progression into Theatre of Blood. Most of the people in my guild don't ever WANT to do this mission, it's more of a necessary evil. The rewards often rot, regardless of usable classes.

While doing this mission, we got a Flawless Pearl of Tranquility to drop off "a champion" (kobold-model mob). It seemed to be a random drop, one of those zonewide rares.

I've not seen that particular augment yet, but have seen a number of both Glyphed Stone of Animosity and Runed Stone of Wrath as random trash drops while doing corruption. I'd put the drop rate around 1% -- I've seen probably 5 or 6 total in about 20 successful corruption runs.

We wiped halfway thru and when we rezed and ran back to zonein would not let us in. Noticed the task has reset to 0/10 bloods. so we had to drop and re-get mission

Every instance works this way: if you dont leave a corpse in the zone, the mission and instance collapse. Been that way since the Lobby went live.

I have not had this happen, but we usually have one of us run back immeadiately after a summon to hold instance open, i think you have 10 to 15 minutes.

We ran this mission twice yesterday to flag myself and a few guildmates. It's a decent challenge to a Time/spell mission geared group. We went through with a warrior (14khp, 2.7kac--or around there with aura), cleric, shaman, and bard as the base group. On the first run we included an SK and wizard; the second run was a second warrior and necro.

I didn't have many issues pulling (bard). Everything seems to see invis, so scouting can be difficult, though mob agro isn't terribly large -- eye of zomm was very helpful. The 70 mobs can be pacified, every non-giant mob seemed to be mezzable, and every mob was snare-able. Quite a few of the pulls are single by default.

For a Time level group, I highly suggest keeping your pulls to singles. You never know when the charm mob is going to show up. Not that the Shadows, or the charmed player, tend to hit terribly hard -- but, if you lose a CC or healer class to charm, it can be troublesome. Our healer was charmed several times and CH'ing mobs, and the loss of a CC class could leave you overwhelmed if you already have multiple mobs in camp when the charmer pops.

The Shadows enrage, I don't believe any other mob rampages or enrages. Nothing runs at low health. Watch for gating mobs. I'd put respawn at 2 to 2.5 hours on normal.

The charm lasts probably 3-4mins max ... if the Shadow is not killed in this time, the charm will wear off and the Shadow will become unkillable. It will then follow the previously charmed person around until it poofs.

Some other notes:

The instance will die if left unattended for too long. We failed this mission last week after a wipe/recover that apparently took too long. At 7/10 we received a 'not ready yet' type message when attempting to zone back in to the instance. When it did let us in, we were reset to 0/10 with no additional time and the zone had reset.

If you're in the zone solo and you get charmed, the mob tends to return to it's spawn point ... which seems to be behind or atleast near a magically sealed door (I was not able to clicky-open it) on what I believe was the 4th level. After a quick run and FM, I was stuck behind said door. I was able to open it with Eye of Zomm, but after DA/running down two levels and chancing roaming/static see-invis mobs, I decided it was best just to Origin out and run back -- far easier to make it through Sverag than all the way down in a nearly fully spawned zone =)

AFK is bad here ... especially if you don't tell anyone or do it while there are mobs in camp. Or if multiple people go afk and the charmer pops.

Our first attempt (failed) took nearly 4 hours, and once the instance reset we quit. Our second attempt (first win) took us about 3 hours with one wipe. Our 3rd attempt (second win) took about 2 hours with no deaths in the instance -- though we lost one each in Devastation and Sverag.

I'd put the drop rate on the blood at around 20% average.

Just a small update to this post ... the newest (TSS) indoor pacify spells should allow you to easily single pull everything during a normal corruption run. Also, it looks like they may have changed the charmed player AI a bit -- healers don't seem to be CH'ing mobs when charmed any more, atleast not in my last several corruption runs.
The Air Dude !

If the 'Air Dude' is the one outside of Skylance, he was single grouped by Monk / Bard / Cleric / Shaman, the first 2 in Anguish gear, the 2nd 2 were our boxes in DoD and time gear

I did this mission 2x times already and I would recommend setting aside 2-4 hours to complete this. Blood drop rate is very odd. A group started this at the same time as us and they got more mobs killed and had only 2 bloods drop and we had 10. So the drops are VERy random.

I did this quest recently and we got 0 blood off of respawns. Let me make this clear ever Blood we got came from a original spawn not one blood came from a respawn.
Hard vs Easy
# Apr 11 2006 at 11:48 AM Rating: Decent
A few bits of additional info:

1)The loot table is shared between hard and easy.
2) The skin drop rate is the same between hard and easy. It is not dependant on the con of the mob in here.
3) The respawn on easy is long. At least an hour. On Hard the respawn is very fast. Did not time it exactly but would guess 15-20 minutes or so.
4) Hard has lots of level 74 non mezzables the easy does not.

Hard is fun, but not worth it due to the lack of itemization that is worth the risk. But fun once. Sad that SoE has gotten so far from the RvR model. Best items from the expansion coming from super easy task in Arcstone and a super easy Monster Mission. There is no RvR left in today's grouping EQ.

It makes no sense to say "there is no RvR." There is *always* Risk vs. Reward. The problem is when the risk is too high and the reward is too low, or vice versa.

Good info above. But the reply is more towards your RvR comment. RvR is still very evident in EQ today. they just added in a couple of ways for the determined non superguild character to get some decent gear. sure the monster missions are easy, but it's only 1 augment... and the super easy task i believe you're referring to isn't quite so super easy. Most of the named you have to kill are fairly simple encounters but they still require a solid group if you want to single group them. and the air dude is virtually impossible to single group unless you have a couple bot clerics on the side to keep your tank up.

So, on the subject of RvR, it's still very evident. The expansion hasn't been beaten yet (so far as i know), and the end game content for this expansion is bound to be just like the rest of them... better faster and stronger than the rest of the content. of course that's just my opinion, i could be wrong.

What has all that got to do with two versions of the same task, one much more difficult than the other, that yield the same rewards? In this case there is no RvR. And there are many other examples where this just hasn't been balanced.
